Your Friendly TSA Coming to Your Interstate Hi-ways!

We knew this was coming. Some of us even predicted it.
First, they showed up in airports. Then they were in bus terminals in Florida. Now they on Tennessee’s interstate hi-ways.

In an article  for, with a headline (“Tennessee Becomes First State To Fight Terrorism Statewide“) that Janet Napolitano must just love, love , love, Adam Ghassemi writes from Portland, Tennessee, that TSA (Transportation Security Administration) agents in their signature blue uniforms are hitting the interstates “to fight terrorism with Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response” (VIPER).
This week, Tennessee became the first state to deploy VIPER simultaneously at five weigh stations and two bus stations across the state. The Tennessee Highway Patrol checked trucks with drug and bomb sniffing dogs during random inspections.
Agents are recruiting truck drivers, like Rudy Gonzales, into the First Observer Highway Security Program to say something if they see something. But it’s not just truck drivers. “Everybody” is urged to “be aware of what’s going on, on the road,” and to call authorities if they see something suspicious.
Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said, “Where is a terrorist more apt to be found? Not these days on an airplane more likely on the interstate.”
Paul Armes, TSA Federal Security Director for Nashville International Airport, said: “Somebody sees something somewhere and we want them to be responsible citizens, report that and let us work it through our processes to abet the concern that they had when they saw something suspicious.” “The bottom line is this: if you see something suspicious say something about it,” Gibbons said.
The random inspections really aren’t any more thorough normal, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott who says paying attention to details can make a difference. Trott pointed out it was an Oklahoma state trooper who stopped Timothy McVeigh for not having a license plate after the Oklahoma City bombing in the early 1990s.
Tuesday’s statewide “VIPER” operation isn’t in response to any particular threat, according to officials.
You can see the news video of this here.
Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Back on November 22, 2010, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano had hinted that those invasive body searches may be coming to trains, subways, and boats. She merely left out interstate hi-ways.
According to Wikipedia, the Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR, or VIPER), is a TSA program. Various government sources have differing descriptions of VIPR’s exact mission. It is specifically authorized by 6 U.S.C. § 1112 which says that the program is to “augment the security of any mode of transportation at any location within the United States”. Authority for the program is under the Secretary of Homeland Security.
The VIPR teams detain and search citizens at railroad stations, bus stations, ferries, car tunnels, ports, subways, truck weigh stations, rest areas, and special events. They also can deploy to deal with CBRNE/WMD (chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear, and explosive weapons of mass destruction). They also do inspections of ships, containers, and vehicles.

  1. Just think, you are going to visit your gandkids and you stop at a rest area to use the restroom, along comes a TSA agent to search you because you have a handicapped parking tag…America at it’s greatest…;-)

  2. i just read “in the garden of beasts” by eric larson which was about the american ambassador to germany b.dodd who arrived in germany in 1932 at the very beginning of hitlers ascendency and the obvious psychotic nature of those in charge in germany and how they transformed a democratic nation into a toltarian police state.

  3. Yet another indication that the terrorists are winning.
I can’t believe the American people are going to let this happen.
This country is a mere shadow of its former self.

  4. It’s the “civilian national security force”… wonder if someone’s thinking about internal passports (er, “trusted traveler documentation,” etc.) or some such yet.

  5. The SS is tightening the noose on the American citizen.
It will be Homeland Security in your house soon.
We are already too weak to resist or fight, and we don’t want it to get in the way of our football and TV sitcoms.
    Say hello to slavery.

  6. Is TSA headed toward shutting down Americans’
Right To Travel Freely in their own Country
The Nazi Military and Police constantly harassed, searched and delayed German travelers labeled politically undesirable at—roadway checkpoints, boarding trains and at bus stops: repeatedly stopped Germans lost their jobs because they were late to work. Lawful Germans were placed on (Nazi do not hire lists) similar to U.S. Homeland Security, security lists, started in 2010. One can’t help wonder if today’s outspoken Americans that defend the Constitution, e.g., writers and bloggers will be deemed combatants by U.S. Government; constantly stopped, searched, and questioned by TSA at checkpoints without warrants, forced to endure repeated X-ray scans damaging their health. It is foreseeable that many Americans could be intimidated by TSA from traveling.
One can only guess how much radiation is transmitted into the bodies of individuals U.S. Government and police repeatedly scan without public oversight. The Obama government recently ordered 500 backscatter X-ray vans which Government and Police will use without warrants, to scan Citizens’ vehicles; to covertly scan persons of interests on the street, inside their home—exposing Americans and their families to radiation or microwave transmissions. Corrupt government personnel and police can too easily use deep penetrating scanners to overexpose targeted Americans, causing cancer and other health problems, in affect slow assassination. It is problematic federal personnel and an increasing number militarized local police will install U.S. Mid East warfare X-ray and other scanner technology on helicopters to penetrate Americans’ homes.
TSA recently refused to provide comprehensive information regarding testing of TSA backscatter x-ray scanners at airports to determine if Citizens, especially (frequent flyers) could be physically harmed, e.g. sustain organ damage. It should be noted Pilot unions were quick to refuse constant TSA scanning at airports. Major media reported that TSA’s x-ray scanners at airports are10-times stronger that what TSA told the Public.

  7. As long as we, as a nation, allow this totalitarianism repression to continue, the farther they will go. Isn’t it ironic how we are rapidly becoming what the USSR was only a few decades ago.
