Almost 80 million with employer health care plans could have coverage canceled, experts predict

Almost 80 million people with employer health plans could find their coverage canceled because they are not compliant with ObamaCare, several experts predicted.
Their losses would be in addition to the millions who found their individual coverage cancelled for the same reason.
Stan Veuger of the American Enterprise Institute said that in addition to the individual cancellations, “at least half the people on employer plans would by 2014 start losing plans as well.” There are approximately 157 million employer health care policy holders.
Avik Roy of the Manhattan Institute added, “the administration estimated that approximately 78 million Americans with employer sponsored insurance would lose their existing coverage due to the Affordable Care Act.”
Last week, an analysis by the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank, showed the administration anticipates half to two-thirds of small businesses would have policies canceled or be compelled to send workers onto the ObamaCare exchanges. They predicted up to 100 million small and large business policies could be canceled next year.
According to projections the administration itself issued back in July 2010, it was clear officials knew the impact of ObamaCare three years ago.

In fact, according to the Federal Register, its mid-range estimate was that by the end of 2014, 76 percent of small group plans would be cancelled, along with 55 percent of large employer plans.
The reason behind the losses is that current plans don’t meet the requirements of ObamaCare, which dictate that each plan must cover a list of essential benefits, whether people want them or not.
“Things like maternity care or acupuncture or extensive drug coverage,” said Veuger. “And so now the law is going to force them to buy policies that they could have gotten in the past if they wanted to but they chose not to.”
Some plans already have been canceled and employers are getting sticker shock at the new, higher prices under ObamaCare.
One of them is David Allen, president of a company bearing his name in Boulder, Colorado. He told a Congressional hearing recently that his carrier discontinued his company policy because it wasn’t compliant with ObamaCare.
“It does not meet the minimum standards as stipulated under the law. Due to this one change,” he said, “our premiums are now scheduled to increase by 52.3 percent in January 2014.”
Roy said that is not unusual. “The old plans that are being cancelled are meaningfully cheaper than the new plans that are ObamaCare compliant.”
A new wave of cancellations and sticker shock will emerge just before next year’s elections.
“They’re going to start doing that in the summer or early fall but certainly before the midterm elections,” said Veuger.

  3. We are looking at this exact problem right now, and with a very large bank as the employer! The POS is so full of himself that he does’t know that the entire country is coming apart.
    Can’t wait to see the press fawning over the next extravagant vacation he and Moochie take.

      • I saw this yesterday at some site I can’t recall, and thought to send it, but decided against it because it seemed too depressing. This is likely a new world record for ‘largest failed website ever’ or something along those lines. It reminds me of Stan Frieberg’s old routine about a caveman who invented the first wheel. It was square, but after a few months the corners broke off and it went better. A few years went by and he decided to do the same to the other three wheels. The PoS couldn’t have done something easy, like copy a system that has been working for forty or fifty years, so the really big bugs and glitches were gone. Sigh…. Somebody wake me up when Stupid is gone.

  6. This will be me…I am on my husband’s insurance…we haven’t even talked about THAT yet. (I could have my own insurance from MY work…but for the last umpteen years..why would I have paid “double?” So, I opt out of mine, take half of the value of my contract med care in cash…& go on my husband’s med care…which is the SAME provider…it costs a little more…is a little better for dental/eye…but then, I pay for it from my cash payment for NOT taking mine from my employer….) NOW…how much you wanna BET that I will be kicked off my husband’s health care next year and have to get my own? There are so man vairables to this dispicable Obamanation Health Care that we’ve NOT EVEN anticipated yet…..(You know…we had to PASS the bill before we could find out what is in it…….Thanks NANCY!) Unless it’s stopped in its tracks (maybe by Obama himself w/all his illegal declarations of delay/exemptioin…..), kicking spouses off of retained employer-provided policies is what I see coming AFTER the general, large canelling of employer-provided policies that will come even before that….

  7. They have failed to explain how 50-100 million Americans losing heir insurance so somewhere between 4-40 million People, some illegal, some that has opted out due to various reasons, is moving forward.
    They never mention that many in that 40 million number are young people that feel no need for Insurance.
    We have always had in effect Medicare, Medicaid and laws that prevent hospitals from turning down patients. All they were actually lacking was an insurance card.
    For the actual 4 million poor, ill and elderly that need help, those are the ones and only ones we are deemed to take care of.
    This proves, this isn’t about patient care, but complete control of our lives.
    Still waiting for Michelle Obama to explain why she thought it proper to patient dump when she consulted Axelrod to help her make her numbers look better when she was working at the hospital. Concern, I highly doubt it.
