What's so funny about abortion?

Rate this post

Last Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, was the 39th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v Wade decision.
In the name of a woman’s “right to privacy” under the due process clause of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment, the floodgates were opened to legalized abortion. In those 39 years, more than 54 million (54,559,615) tiny human beings were killed.
Have you ever listened to the Roe v Wade arguments?
Sarah Weddington was the young attorney who represented “Jane Roe” (real name Norma McCorvey) before the Supreme Court. The legality of abortion hinges on the unborn not being recognized as a “person” in the U.S. legal system. Not being recognized as “persons” in turn means that the unborn human life has no constitutional right to protection of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
All of that is curious to say the least, given the Supreme Court’s 2010 ruling that business corporations are “persons” under the law.
During Weddington’s appearance before the Supreme Court in the Roe v Wade hearing, every time when the subject of whether the unborn is a “person” came up, there was laughter in the audience. You can hear the tittering at the 0:33 and 1:00 marks in this audio:

Go to this site for another audio. Laughter can be heard at the 24:00 and 24:10 marks, every time someone said “If it was established that a fetus were a person under the Constitution….”
So my question is:

What is so darn funny about abortion? What is so funny about discussing killing “a fetus” an unborn human being?

Norma McCorvey speaks for pro-life, 2009

In 1994, 21 years after Roe v Wade, “Jane Roe” Norma McCorvey converted to Christianity and expressed remorse for her part in the Supreme Court decision. She began working in the pro-life movement, such as Operation Rescue. In 1998, at age 51, McCorvey was formally received into the Roman Catholic Church. At the same time, she declared she was no longer a lesbian.

Sarah Weddington speaks at pro-abortion rally, 2004

Sarah Weddington enjoyed much professional success after Roe v Wade. She was a legislator in the Texas House of Representatives from 1972 to 1977; General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1977; and a special White House advisor in the Carter administration, during which time she helped appoint Ruth Bader Ginsburg to a federal judgeship. Weddington is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Now 67 years old, she remains unrepentant and continues to advocate abortion. In 2004, she was one of the speakers at a March for Women’s Life in Washington, DC.

  1. Wow, I did not know the full story about how Roe vs Wade came about and Sarah Weddington becoming a Christian. I wrote a paper year ago for a college assignment arguing the pro-life stance. I wish I could find that disk I saved it to. Great post and thanks for sharing it.

  2. I think it is the devils from hell that are those persons laughing or possessing them. That’s the laughter of hell and Satan laughing at babies being genocided.

  3. Norma McCorvey has a pro-life part in new film, “Doonby”

Norma McCorvey, playing Nancy Thurburt in Doonby, talks to Lucy Mae about children being a gift from God.

  4. What’s so stupid are the arguments used to “justify” abortion that ignore the reason we oppose it. They say things like “you don’t *like* abortion,” “well you don’t have to have an abortion but leave others alone,” “what about overpopulation,” and “what about unwanted children who are abused?” NONE of these arguments address the fact that the reason we oppose abortion is because it is the killing of an innocent child with a soul, and that many of the procedures are done when the baby feels excruciating pain. “Like” is a condescending choice of words as if we are talking about an inanimate object. If it truly was a soulless clump of cells stuck to the inside of the uterus than no one should be denied the convenience of having it removed. Since it is a human being with the right to live, no one should have the “right” to murder him/her.

  5. There is nothing humorous in anything relating to abortion… nada…zip. If indeed there were those in the vid that were chuckling to the idea that a fetus could possibly be considered a human being before birth, then may God have mercy on their souls… It’s unfortunate that there are so many who believe this way. I recently met a couple at church who basically laughed at the idea as well. Further elaboration on their part revealed that it is merely a blob of tissue and the baby’s (blob’s) life was not considered life until he/she took their first breath on their own. I am stunned, and need prayer to help me further deal with this very delicate situation, as I have befriended and visited etc…Thanks!

    • It came as a shocker Sage! 🙁 I only discovered this Wed. night… I did not speak w/my pastor this morning, but I am contemplating it come this Wed., (if not before). Thank you for your prayers!

    • Dear IVTW,
When you see that couple again, please give them this message from me:

“When and should you discover you have a cancerous tumor growing inside your body, don’t panic or get depressed. Instead, chuckle and laugh. After all, it’s just a piece of bodily tissue.”

Meanwhile, I suggest that while you pray for that couple, stay far away from them. Evil can be contaminating.

  6. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for pointing out this horrific evil! Evil cannnot empathize, and, you cannot negotiate with evil. There is no verbiage or language that can justify abortion to take away the actuality of it, the killing of a human being, a little child-the killing of the Innocents by the millions! And, there is no such thing as a “right to privacy.” If that were the case, then the I.R.S. would fold up as well as many other governmental agencies. The legal premise for Roe v. Wade is completely and utterly without merit.

  7. Dennis H. Bennett

Grouchy: Have you read “Heaven is For real” by Todd Burpo. Or “The Shack” by William P Young. Both stories are entirely within the realm of our Lord to make happen!

  8. This really chaps my hide! I mean if the “fetus” isn’t a baby yet then why are pro-choice groups up in arms about Texas’s law making a sonogram a requirement before every single abortion? If it is just “cells” they are looking at, then why would they change their mind after seeing the picture of the “fetus”? B/c the “fetus” is a BABY with fingers and toes.
Another thing that just tee-totally irks the heck outa me, is the way Abortion Activist go around calling themselves PRO-CHOICE. Wake up GIRLS, if they were really fighting for YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE, why would they NOT want you to see the sonogram before the “procedure”? If they were really fighting for YOU, why do they not provide ANY information so that
YOU could make a CHOICE that YOU will have to live with?
Pro-Choice supporters could care-less about YOUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE! Isn’t it ironic that Pro-life activists use the word LIFE, but Prochoice activists don’t use the word ABORTION? If abortion is not morally wrong, then how come Americans do not call them ABORTIONIST or PRO-ABORTION activists?

    • Well said, Miranda! I love your righteous passion for the Truth and your passionate love for God!
A warm welcome to the Fellowship! 😀

      • I adore this blog! I have never been an Internet person but I read every story on this site. Thank yall for putting something like this site together. What a great fellowship. Y’all make my days better! Thank you for spending time doing this! All of you.

  9. Lets be honest here, the MAJORITY of abortions in this country don’t have ANYTHING to do with a woman’s health, what Pro Choice activists hide behind. It has to do with one thing. Dealing with the “consequences” of pregnancy.
Abortion always reminds me of King David’s affair with Bathsheba.
(2 Samuel 11) If King David had been at war fighting like he was suppose to be…he wouldn’t have been bored, walking around on his roof…he wouldn’t have seen Bathsheba in the bath…he wouldn’t have had an affair…he wouldn’t have gotten Bathsheba pregnant…he wouldn’t have murdered her husband. (Cover-up!)
    Premarital sex…pregnancy…Abortion…Living with it. (Cover-up!)
But like David discovered, there is only One who is able to break the chain of sin if we ask; Our Mighty Gracious God, Who is Faithful. He sent His only Son to die for OUR sins so that we, who believe, could be forgiven, even though all are undeserving!
~Thank You God for creating and protecting this Nation, already knowing that we would someday turn from You. Thank you for Loving us that much, no matter how we treated You! ~

    • Hey take it as a compliment! That must mean your doing something right! Plus that means they read something off here. How Exciting! You have planted some seeds!! That has to make your cup runneth over! That gives me chill bumps Doc! Now all we have to do is pray that God will provide a person to water the seeds you have sown! What an extrodinary thing y’all are allowing our Lord to do thru you! Look at the map counter, that brings tears to my eyes. Just think, your blog might be the only words about Christ a little girl, halfway across the world, will ever read. Or your blog could be bringing comfort to a little boy here in America, who has never heard of a Love like Christ’s Love before. The pictures on here could very well be reminding an elderly woman, confined to a hospital bed, how beautiful the outside world truly is! What a Blessing that must be! 🙂
I know one thing for sure You have given this stay-at-home-mommie hope for my children’s future. I have hope b/c their are others still out there fighting for what is MORALLY right and just. I have hope b/c this blog is proof that there are still human beings in this scary world that wake up each morning and wisely put on the full armor of God so that they can take their stand against the devil’s schemes.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against
the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full
armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to
stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand
firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the
breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the
readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take
up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows
of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.”
      (Ephesians 6:11-17 NIV)
I will pray for the seeds this blog is surely planting! Your team is truly a blessing!

      • Thank you, Miranda, for reminding me why I started this blog 2+ years ago and why I work on it all day, every day of the week, at $0 pay. You’ve given me hope!
        God bless you. 😀

  10. I so wish that the people, that do this to y’all, could have this treasure that we have deep inside these jars of clay. I wish they could understand the peace instead of the hatred.
