On the first day of his 10-day vacation in playground-of-the-rich Martha’s Vineyard, Obama bought some books from the Bunch of Grapes book shop. After shopping, he was driven to Vineyard Golf Club in Edgartown for a round of foursomes golf with long-time Chicago friend Eric Whitaker and two White House staffers.
Skippy and Michelle had taken separate government jets to Martha’s Vineyard, 500 miles from Washington, because Michelle just couldn’t, wouldn’t wait four hours for her husband.
Skippy arrived four hours later, using two helicopters and Air Force One to get to Martha’s Vineyard.
Meanwhile, on August 18, 2011, thousands of jobless Americans camped out overnight for a job fair in Atlanta, before waiting, dressed in their full business suits, in a seemingly endless line in the baking heat. Authorities treated 20 people for heat exhaustion as they struggled to keep the line moving and get people moved inside.
The “For the People Jobs Initiative” was hosted by Congressmen John Lewis and Hank Johnson of the Congressional Black Caucus, in response to an increase in Georgia’s jobless rate to 10.1% in July from the 9.9% in June. Last month was the 48th consecutive month that Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate of 9.1%. The unemployment rate for the state’s African-Americans is even worse, at 15.9%.
These desperate Americans must wait until Obama has finished vacationing for the unveiling of his new economic plan.
