To our readers experiencing problems

Rate this post

Dear friends:

I’ve heard from some readers that they are unable to access the resurrected Fellowship of the Minds at They tell me that when they tried, they get a message that FOTM‘s domain’s DNS is still pointing at the (diabolical) WordPress, instead of our new server 1and1 (1&1).

However, I and many other readers are able to get on; some have even posted comments. I also just spoke with 1&1 tech support; he checked everything and confirmed that our domain’s DNS is pointing correctly at 1&1, and that everything is working properly as it should.

The problem, I believe, is that after FOTM came online early this morning on the 1&1 server, the domain’s DNS wasn’t pointing correctly. When I discovered that, I got tech support to point the DNS to 1&1, away from WordPress. However, before I did that, some of our readers already had tried to get on. When you do that, your browser and modem tend to remember that URL, so that later, even when FOTM‘s DNS is pointing correctly at 1&1, you got the same error message.

1&1 tech support recommends you do the following:

  1. Clear your browser of its cache and cookies; or
  2. Use another browser to access
  3. If neither 1 nor 2 works, disconnect your modem, wait a couple of minutes, then reconnect your modem to your computer (assuming you’re using a computer).
  4. If you’re using an iPhone or similar smart phone, I’m at a loss. I suggest you wait 24 hours and try again tomorrow. Sometimes it takes 24-48 hours for the domain to sync up and “point” correctly.

My apologies for the difficulties some of you are experiencing, and I thank you for your patience, loyalty and persistence.

Truly, FOTM‘s readers are THE BEST!

Worked for me the first time I tried… I think. WELCOME BACK!

Besides 1&1’s DNS server having to be updated, so do all the others DNS servers that connect the Internet and convert IP octet numbers to domain names. It should happen relatively quickly, but there are sometimes snags in technology and sometimes there are nefarious actors who interlope the process and send browsers to the wrong domains intentionally. I hope that wasn’t the case here.

Unfortunately, it still doesn’t correct the wrong of being denied access to the “public square” so our thoughts can contribute to societal discussions just as readily as those from folks “not in agreement” with our beliefs…
