Thursday Funny! Cat burglar steals men’s socks and underwear

Most cats, if allowed to roam outdoors, bring home trophies like dead rats for their humans. One special cat even brings flowers for a kind woman in the neighborhood.

But Brigit, a cat in New Zealand, however, has a fondness for men’s underwear shorts and socks.

Selina Sykes reports for Express, March 21, 2016, that 6-year-old Brigit in Hamilton East, New Zealand, had stolen 11 pairs of men’s shorts and 50 socks, much to the embarrassment of her owner Sarah Nathan, who posted leaflets in the neighborhood apologizing for her cat’s theft.

Brigit became an internet sensation after red-faced Nathan posted a picture of Brigit’s haul on Facebook with a caption reading: “Now it’s getting silly. This is Brigit’s haul from the last two months. Every morning we wake up to more.” The post received received thousands of likes and hundreds of shares on Facebook.

Nathan asked anyone who thinks they’ve had their underwear stolen to come forward and reclaim them:

“It’s all men’s. It’s really, really weird. She’s [Brigit] got really specific taste. In our last house she’d bring home a bit of everything – she’d bring home men’s undies, women’s undies, togs, she even brought home a hockey shin pad and a jumper. She was much less discerning – now she’s decided menswear is the thing – and it’s a very specific kind of underpants that she likes. It’s an absolute obsession. A night does not go by without her bringing things home. I got up this morning and there were another four socks in the house.”

Luckily, Nathan believed the underwear to be all clean:

“They feel as if they’ve come off the washing line – they’ve got that crispy feeling. I’ve put notes in every letterbox in the street. Someone must be missing this stuff. Please share if you know someone who lives in the George St. area.”

If this was in MA the AG would probably promise to crack down on cat crime. Those commies, no sense of humor. Cats never cease to amaze with their quirks. I had one that used to steal hair ties, every morning there would be 5 or 6 ties on the kitchen floor. Another one used to bring yellow jackets into the house and set them on the floor alive. Cats gonna cat and we are blessed because of it

I’ve had follow cats who’d tag along with me unleashed for mile-long walks. I’ve had cats who loved to play fetch and retrieve. I had a cat that would wait till the dog wasn’t looking, then jump on his back, claws out like spurs, and ride the dog bareback. I even had one cat with zero quirks – except when my then 3 year-old brought out his purple plush Barney the dinosaur doll, which the cat absolutely hated for some reason. She’d sneak up on it and then pounce, the cat and Barney rolling around on the floor like two… Read more »

Barney was (is?) pure evil. Cats know this instinctively

Too bad Brigid can’t retrieve Hillary’s 33,000 missing e-mails!

My sweet cat Toby is 14 yrs. old and had never jumped up on the kitchen counter until sometime last year when there was an uncovered butter dish. Later we noticed there was a big dent in the stick of butter and realized Toby had been licking it. Now, we have to make sure the butter dish is always covered when leaving the kitchen. For some reason Toby loves the taste of butter so we’ve nicknamed him “Butter Licker”. Thanks for the great cat burglar story!

Love it! I have suffered this same embarrassment due to our first dog when we were a newly a married couple. He used to run around our semi-rural neighborhood in Virginia, our first home, and steal shoes left outside on steps and porches, and worst of all—-children’s toys (dolls, balls, jump ropes, lawn darts or similar toys, corn hole bean bags….small doll strollers…..unbelievable things……) that were left out in the yards—-he had a little “tent” hollowed out under a Forsythia bush where he stashed them, and after we discovered it, we had to walk around with the “booty” apologetically to… Read more »
