Thought-provoking Thought of the Day

importance of gratitude

Research shows that gratitude, not money, is the key to being happy. Happy people tend to:

  • express gratitude on a regular basis;
  • practice being optimistic;
  • engage in frequent acts of kindness;
  • savor joyful events; and
  • practice forgiveness.

Just remember: Whatever we have — our body and mind, talents and skills, family and friends, and our very life itself — are all wholly and entirely gratuitous (unearned) gifts from the Creator.
“Brothers and sisters: Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” -1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

    What a beautiful and much needed reminder for today Dr. Eowyn. I need to practice the optimism part of this, with all the negative things happening in this world it’s sometimes hard to remind ourselves of the good that still remains. Praying without ceasing is also so important, now more than ever. Without our prayer life most of us would never make it through the minefield that life can sometimes be.

  2. Dear Eo:
    You created a wonderful text paired with an unusual photo, making this a thoughtful meditation. I’m sharing this with as many as I can today, as well as archiving in my Eowyn folder for the future!

  3. Nice!

    Beautiful post and uplifting! I must admit, sometimes I struggle with the forgiveness part, but not very often. Some things are hard to forgive, but I do have a grateful heart and show kindness to others. God is still working on me. Leeann

    • Leeann,
      To forgive doesn’t mean one forgets the wrong, nor does it mean we must continue the toxic relationship. So often the word “forgive” is undefined. The best definition of “forgive” to which I subscribe is “not to wish ill on the person who’s wronged you, but pray for him/her.”

  5. And a most Happy May Day to all! This time of year our Spring is well along, and we can feel Summer’s nearing….

  6. This is God’s Creation. It’s His Show. It’s His Production. God is ENTITLED to have everything revolve around HIM. Here’s the difference between us and God: Whenever we act, we act to GET, to OBTAIN. Whenever God acts, He acts to COMMUNICATE IT, to GIVE IT AWAY!

  7. Beautiful reminder! Thank you, Dr. E!

    I have a sign that says—
    What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday.

  9. Sage, very sage advice, I love it.

  10. Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this most wonderful and valuable post. Gratitude is the key to humility, and humility is the entrance to other virtues. All of our accomplishments come from God, as do our talents, gifts and families and friends. I thank you God in all things and situations; I praise you God in all things and situations; I will live in the mystery of Your Cross; and, I will live in the present.
