"Engaging" students

Students watch a woman being pleasured by a sex toy as part of class at Northwestern University
A live sex act was performed in front of a group of students at a top university which involved a woman being brought to orgasm by a machine-powered saw with a phallic object instead of a blade. Northwestern University, in Chicago held the unusual demonstration at the campus last week in which a group of students watched a naked woman being penetrated by the powerful sex toy. The graphic act was performed in front of about 100 students in psychology professor John Michael Bailey’s human sexuality class.
Ken Melvoin-Berg, co-owner of Weird Chicago Tours, was paid around $400 to guest lecture at the university which was organised by Professor Bailey. His discussion on bondage, swinging and other sexual fetishes included video footage of a woman who was having an orgasm, but when it was deemed unrealistic, the idea of a live sex act was introduced.
Both Professor Bailey and Melvoin-Berg said they gave the students multiple warnings about how graphic it was going to be and gave them the option of leaving, which some did. Demonstrators Jim Marcus and his fiancée Faith Kroll said they had not planned to show off the sex act at first but it seemed like a reasonable thing to do after the disappointing video footage. The woman undressed and got on stage with her male partner, who used the device to bring her to orgasm. Melvoin-Berg said the couple are exhibitionists who enjoy having people watch them have sex, and they were not paid for the demonstration.
Melvoin-Berg called it an educational experience for the students, and said it lasted about three minutes. ‘We wanted to share not only our lifestyles and talk about it, but demonstrate what we do in our personal lives.”
However, the president of Northwestern University Morton Schapiro said today he was launching an investigation as he was ‘troubled and disappointed’ by what happened. “I feel it represented extremely poor judgment on the part of our faculty member. I simply do not believe this was appropriate, necessary or in keeping with Northwestern University’s academic mission.”
The American Association of University Professors defines academic freedom as the freedom to teach, conduct research, address institutional policy and speak on broader social, economic and political interests, said Greg Scholtz, a director at the organization. “First, academic freedom does not protect professional misconduct and incompetence in teaching research. The question is, who is to determine whether something is of a nature of misconduct or incompetence?”
I’m with Schapiro on this one. Totally inappropriate to demonstrate this activity. If this qualifies as “education” why waste tuition money when you could get this “lesson” on-line, for free?

This has nothing to do with the faculty’s “poor judgment.” This is demonic; perverse. Can we as a society sink any lower….

this is sick-crosses the line. this is the type of thing the commies are pushing-more to demoralize society. the sick twisted thing in the whitehouse is probably all for this. Please educate all youth in family or friends in your circles-this is so wrong. It has to be stopped.

NU Backtracks on Sex Toy Support By Lisa Balde NBCChicago.com updated 3/3/2011 A day after news hit about an optional live-sex demonstration held at Northwestern University, the school is backtracking on its support of the presentation’s “advancement of knowledge.” “I am troubled and disappointed by what occurred,” Northwestern President Morton Schapiro said in a written statement issued Thursday, that runs counter to a statement the university released Wednesday. Schapiro said the school would fully investigate the specifics of the incident. On Feb. 21, Prof. John Michael Bailey, a psychology professor known for pushing the envelope, invited students from his human… Read more »
