This Is NASA's Big Discovery?

Rate this post

Do you remember about 2 weeks ago NASA saying they’ll have a major announcement about their “discovery of an exceptional object in our cosmic neighborhood”?
This may be it.
Yesterday, scientists announced the discovery of a new arsenic-based lifeform in California’s Mono Lake. Arsenic, of course, is a deadly poison. Jonathon Seidl of The Blaze reports:

WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Scientists have discovered a strange bacteria that can use arsenic as one of its nutrients, a discovery some speculate is the big announcement NASA is set to unveil…. The finding widens the possibilities for finding different forms of life here on Earth and possibly on other planets or moons. The unusual bacteria was found in a lake in California.
Six major elements have long been considered essential for life — carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur. But the researchers found that the bacteria is able to continue to grow after substituting arsenic for phosphorous.
Ariel Anbar, a co-author of the report, said “it makes you wonder what else is possible.”

Hmm, an arsenic-based bacteria in a lake in California, while unusual, is hardly that “exceptional object in our cosmic neighborhood” trumpeted by NASA. Besides, I honestly don’t know why the scientists are so excited. We’ve known about strange arsenic-based lifeforms for some time now:

  1. Funny! God forgive me, but I cannot stand this woman! Her duplicity and misrepresentations of my Catholic faith enrage me! It gets pretty bad when the Conference of Catholic Bishops finds it necessary to correct someone!

  2. Obligatory, but…
“It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it!” …explains George Soros, too.

  3. Actually, I believe the announcement was made a while ago. Nothing too earth shattering(!). An earth sized planet was found and in the so-called goldilocks zone of a close by star. They believe it has liquid water oceans, etc.. etc…. earth like. We are getting closer and closer disclosure. On another note, did you see the return of the space ship that has been in orbit for a few months? They have several manned and unmanned ships in orbit as we speak. Let’s not forget that about 80% of NASA’s budget is classified black-ops. There’s more going on than you realize regarding “the last frontier”

    • How do I know this? I have an immediate relative working on the next mars rover that is launching soon and tasked with finding and proving life exists in space and on mars in particular, a la viking rover in 1976 ,which did prove life exists on mars but whose results were not accepted. It didn’t fit the paradigm of the times, times they are a changing and so is our paradigm.

      • Micro,
I’d be most interested in what your Mars rover relative thinks of George Leonard’s fascinating book, Somebody Else is on the Moon, and Richard C. Hoagland’s books, such as his book on NASA, Dark Mission. Thank you! 🙂

    • True, but I was hoping they’d found Alf or gotten a transmission that said “Send more Chuck Berry” or something as exciting… not arsenic-based bacteria.
