Loophole allows accused child rapist to watch child porn in jail
Via Mynorthwest.com: Because of a loophole in the law, an accused child rapist is being allowed to watch child pornography inside the Pierce County jail. Weldon Marc Gilbert, a Lake Tapps pilot, is acting as his own lawyer, which means legally, he can watch videos showing him sexually assaulting young boys.
“We don’t like it. We do not want to turn that over, but the court ruling requires us to turn over that material to the defendant,” Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist explained. Prosecutors seized more than 100 videos and still photography, some of which were allegedly shot by Gilbert.
Lindquist said the loophole can be fixed, and should be fixed, but it will take some time. “What’s absurd about this is we don’t give defendants contraband like cocaine, or guns, or stolen property, so why should we have to give them child pornography,” he asked.
According to Lindquist, Gilbert must view the videos with an investigator in a separate room away from other inmates. He’s visible by jail guards.
This just makes me sick to my stomach.
