WHITE HOUSE BBQ  WHILE AMERICA BURNS

WASHINGTON–President Obama celebrated his 50th birthday Thursday night with a celebrity-filled bash, as entertainer Chris Rock reported on his Twitter feed: “Just left the Presidents birthday party at the White House. Herbie Hancock played, Stevie Wonder sang and yes they did the electric slide. A great night.”
Daughter Malia, 13 just arrived home from summer camp in time for the Rose Garden party as she was joined by her sister, Sasha, 10, First Lady Michelle, grandmother Marian Robinson and their godmother, Eleanor ” Mama Kaye, Wilson,” who flew to Washington from Chicago on Air Force One with Obama when he returned from his Thursday fund-raiser back home.
Obama’s party–paid for, the White House said, by the First Couple–was closed press and not on his official schedule. Obama’s team was not eager for pictures of the bash, coming as the stock market was plunging and a new jobless report comes out Friday morning.
Eddie Gehman Kohan, who presides over Obama Foodorama, the website of record about entertaining in the Obama White House, put together a detailed report about the five-hour barbeque, based on interviews of people who were there. Read her entire article here.
UPDATE Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Obama’s former Chief of Staff, was also at the party. END UPDATE

The President also led a huge Conga line around the East Room, pulling in everyone in his path, according to one observer. “He was chill, and like, ‘how you doin, man? Come dance!,'” reported one attendee. “He put everyone at ease.”
The celebration was a family affair, too: Obama daughters Malia, 13, and Sasha, 10, mingled with the grown-ups under the watchful eyes of their grandmother, Mrs. Marian Robinson, and their godmother, Eleanor “Mama Kaye” Wilson.
The guests toasted the President throughout the night. Also on hand to mark the Presidential milestone were Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former governors Bill Richardson and Tim Kaine, and Mr. Obama’s staunchest allies in the debt battle–Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Senior White House staff also celebrated: Chief of Staff Bill Daley, Cecelia Munoz, John Brennan, and Valerie Jarrett. Mrs. Obama’s former Chief of Staff, Susan Sher, flew in from Chicago, as did two of the President’s closest pals: Dr. Eric Whitaker, University of Chicago Hospital Vice-President, and The Parking Spot President and CEO Marty Nesbitt. Campaign fundraiser Andy Spahn was spotted, too. Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives/assistant chef Sam Kass wasn’t on cooking duty, and joined the guests.

  3. I sincerely hope that all who attended had a good time. I have my doubts about who paid for the bash, because I have always had the feeling that Liberals don’t mind spending other peoples’ money but really, really hate parting with their own stash of cash. If Obama learned nothing else while growing up it was how to enjoy life to the fullest and if you can’t do it one way, others are always there to show you the way, and, pay the tab. I have always preferred paying my own way and have for sixty-eight years, starting at the age of nine.

  9. Bushs presidency and the first year of Barack Obamas presidency for The Washington Times. ……….AP……………………………………………………….White House press secretary Robert Gibbs implied Thursday that President Obama does not subscribe to a version of Christianity dubbed as liberation theology and argued that the presidents beliefs are more akin to traditional Protestantism..The president is a committed mainstream Christian Gibbs said when asked whether Fox News personality Glenn Beck has been correct in as liberation theology..I have no evidence that would guide me as to what Glenn Beck would have any genuine knowledge to what the president actually does or does not believe Gibbs said..Gibbs did not say outright that the president rejects liberation theology which in general interprets the gospel of Jesus Christ as primarily a mandate to help the poor and needy but also has many streams and variations on finer matters and points of emphasis..I dont know the answer to that Gibbs said.

  10. Ya know, when you really think about it, Obama doesn’t need the democrats.
He’s got Rep. Bonehead and Sen. Mitch McDummy in his back pocket, who togeter twisted the arms of their fellow congress critters and gave Obama a $2.2 trillion birthday present in the form of a campaign slush fund.
$2.2 trillion will buy a lot of votes.
