The devastating effect of shutting down the US economy

This is sobering news, as reported by The Hill: “Poll: 43 percent of Americans have lost jobs or wages due to coronavirus outbreak.”

I’d argue that the wages were lost due to over-reaction by bureaucrats. Not every county and city was hit like New York and needed to completely go into lockdown mode.

It’s going to take years to recover from this economic shutdown.

And Illinois will continue its over-reaction, with the lockdown extended through May, and only vague, “limited” re-openings.

I feel Blessed to live in a state with a Republican Governor. I also live in a rural area that has always been underserved in every way under the sun. It leaves us local residents in a good position; not feeling the same pinch as many other states/communities are suffering under.

Economics has little to do with any disease 0r plague…..it’s always an equal opportunity killer. The great Plague, in fact, killed peons and Kings or the descendants of Kings…without prejudice ..look it up. I think this recent scourge is the same & this is just my uneducated opinon: I observe/believe that this virus is uber contagious but..once we’ve said that—-we do not need to shut down our entire economy to “flatten the upward curve” of the illness. ‘We need to follow a guide that strives to illiminate the spread. This does not mean total shut down…after all….we are still going… Read more »
