Texas McDonald's worker is fired for refusing to serve an off-duty cop

blue lives matter
From Daily Mail: An off-duty police officer out of uniform in Texas was refused service at a local McDonald’s by an employee simply for being a cop.
The officer who works for the Brenham Police Department went to grab a quick bite to eat with his two children at the fast-food chain, but a female employee would not serve him.
Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman said the shocking incident happened at the 500 Hwy 290 West location in the town that’s located about 80 miles outside of Dallas. ‘We know this was an isolated incident that involved a single employee who is not fond of law enforcement,’ a statement posted to the department’s Facebook page reads.
Goodman told KPRC the employee’s son is currently in custody ‘for a serious offense and she just doesn’t have a pleasant view or a positive view of law enforcement.’
Another employee at the McDonald’s stepped in and served the officer and his family. ‘Nobody deserves to be treated like that,’ Goodman told KHOU.  ‘We know that these problems exist everywhere, but we did not expect that here.’
The officer, who has not been publicly named, told his captain what happened and he contacted McDonald’s, who immediately let the employee go.  ‘They, much like a police organization, looked at what took place, and after gathering the information, they came to the right decision and that employee no longer works for their business,’ Goodman said.
He added that the owners of the eatery were ‘disheartened’ when they heard about the incident.

Goodman said that the officer who this happened to is one of the best in their department and is also a former Marine. He shared that they aren’t judging McDonald’s for what happened based ‘on the action of this one worker. The actions of that one employee do not reflect the beliefs or opinions of management, the owners, or the McDonald’s company as a whole,’ he said. ‘We would like to thank the owners of McDonald’s for their continued support and for seeing that this issue has been resolved.’
In Virginia, a police officer was denied service at a restaurant because she was in uniform. The officer had been standing in line at the Noodles & Company on Duke Street in Alexandria on Monday when a female cook emerged from the back and said she wouldn’t serve the cop, Fox5 reports.
Gesturing towards the cop, the cook told the restaurant’s cashier: ‘You better pull me off the line, because I’m not serving that.’ The Alexandria police department said both the cashier and cook started laughing – and the officer, who has not been identified, left the restaurant at this point.
‘Well, your first response as a police officer is anger.’ police chief Earl Cook told the local station. These are very difficult times right now with our relations with everyone, and to have one of my officers treated in that manner unnecessarily – your first response is anger, then you calm down a bit.’
His outrage at the incident led him to visit the establishment on Tuesday. Managers apologized for it and said they would investigate what had happened. They later told him that it appeared the encounter had occurred just as the officer in question had described. Management said that they would now post signs on their windows to express their support for law enforcement, a representative for the Alexandria police union said, according to Fox.
Noodles & Company released a statement after the incident, saying they expect the ‘highest ethical and personal behavior’ from employees. ‘We value each of our guests and are committed to treating every one with dignity and respect,’ the company said. ‘We do not tolerate any form of discrimination.’ The company added that they are working with authorities to resolve the matter and have made an effort to reach out to the police officer.
In the wake of the incident, Derrick Perks, an editor for Associations Now, said there had been calls for the public to steal from the restaurant. On Twitter, the police department said they do not support any crime to come as a result of the incident – and added that they do not even support a boycott of the restaurant.

if my manager or store owner was a jerk and i was ready to quit my job, this would be a fun way to do it… not to mess with the police, but to embarass a scuzpit like mcdonalds… and do the cop and his family a favor by sparing them from that chemical laden ‘food’

McDonald’s was right to fire the employee. And this is not protected by the First Amendment: It’s insubordination, not free speech.
The one exception I would agree with were the two police officers who killed Kelly Thomas. They were publicly hounded out of a restaurant about a year ago, and rightly so: They were as guilty as hell.

Although the article refused to identify the race and gender of this idiot, I’m gonna jump out and say it was probably some half wit black woman who was just exercising her 101st Amendment rights, doin’ her thang and proudly showing her ass
I have to laugh but not at the police officer. I would have loved to have been at the counter when the server….very obviously worth $15 per hour….was confronted by the boss and told to get the hell out.

McDonald’s did the smart thing by immediately firing the female employee. There are plenty of no-skill Americans who can and will replace that woman, not so with police officers. Those who live in Baltimore’s black areas discovered, too late, what happens when police are no longer eager to secure law-and-order, after being the targets of black riots protesting the Freddie Gray death, with Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake giving her tacit permission and encouragement.

Every officer charged in Gray’s death has been cleared, and all charges against them dropped. The officers are now suing prosecutor Marilyn Mosby.

There is talk of disbarring Mosby, and of prosecuting her, and I hope they nail both her and Rawlings-Blake TO. THE. WALL.
And to whoever gave Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson their “big break,” I hope you GO. TO. HELL!

When it’s donut shops that start doing this, we’ll know the end is near!!!
On a more serious note. Perhaps this quote from the story hints at the foundational problem with relations between police and public:
“‘Well, your first response as a police officer is anger.’ police chief Earl Cook told the local station.”

How is this news. The only relevant piece of information was that this heartfelt and moving story was reported by FOX.

I don’t watch TV news.
But this story has been all over the intertubes, and it isn’t the first time this sort of thing has happened.
Now, why don’t you run on back to Kos, troll, so you can continue to get your “news” from PMSNBCCCP.
And try not to wet yourself along the way.

Harsh Dave, real harsh, but that’s your opinion. I just don’t believe a woman refusing to serve a policeman is newsworthy information regardless of whether its been all over the net. It just seems like there’s divisive sub-context to putting something like this out at a time where tensions are high between black people and the police in America. It is assumed that the woman is black, and the post drops subtleties in favour of this. I’ve seen many different types of people not get served at restaurants. I’m sure its happened hundreds of times this week alone. So what?… Read more »

This is happening way too often in this country and it is unacceptable.
While growing up. We had the utmost respect of all officers and would never run or give lip. Very few were killed during those years. An action that would serve the current day idiots well.

So, was she a “tattoed, toothless, & clueless” that I warn my kids abt every day as they depart for jobs in the “real world” where (I think, superstitiously) if I DON’T say this every morning to them as they leave for work….they MIGHT NOT RETURN TO ME ALIVE at the end of the day due to the recently “acceptable” CRAP that “passes” as “work” & “responsibility” in the USA? Never MIND they might be insulted, discriminated against, neglected at the cost of their employer’s capitalism….they could end up DEAD because of the inattentiveness of these STOOOPID people….etc etc…. IT… Read more »

Well frankly, he’d have been “smarter” to spit in his food and say nothing. Hell, give him an extra burger. I don’t care for cops, in general. It’s harder when the “restaurant” is a chain. It I owned one I might very well do something like this. Of course, if you do, you’ll be sorry. At the least, businesses don’t have to serve anyone that they don’t want to serve. It’s somewhat like those incidents with the “wedding” cakes for queer couples. If one finds that offensive, and doesn’t want to participate, they have the right not to do so.… Read more »

Years ago, I worked for the Dalas Police Dept….office of Personnell. I trained people to do background checks on potential officers. The Dallas Police were/are a great bunch of people. I Iive in Collin County, TX…I love our cops! They are very “Citizen Friendly.” I have a funny story to tell you. Where I live, there are 3 lakes in back of my house stocked with fish. Mothers walk around the lakes with their babies in a stroller around the lakes, Kids fish in the lakes. Kids ride theire bikes, etc. I was walking my dog, and saw a HUGE… Read more »
