Taylor Swift “terrified” of becoming like the Dixie Chicks

From Yahoo: Taylor Swift’s reputation has been a topic of conversation since her 2017 album titled just that. But the massively famous singer-songwriter had only started altering her influence in the fall of 2018 when she spoke out about her political beliefs for the first time, despite fearing that it would tarnish her career.

The 30-year-old spoke to Variety about her decision to publicly endorse Democrat Phil Bredesen in Tennessee’s Senate race during the 2018 midterm election, plunging her into the political conversation and leaving her vulnerable to a divisive fan base. And although there were various outcomes considered before Swift posted to social media, the one that made her most fearful was the example set by the Dixie Chicks.

“I saw how one comment ended such a powerful reign, and it terrified me,” Swift told the magazine about Natalie Maines’s 2003 comments against then-President George W. Bush —which forced the top-selling female group into exile.

“These days, with social media, people can be so mad about something one day and then forget what they were mad about a couple weeks later. That’s fake outrage. But what happened to the Dixie Chicks was real outrage. I registered it — that you’re always one comment away from being done being able to make music.

I guess what she’s saying is that she is terrified to have any real convictions and to publicly state them. That’s fine, Taylor Swift is an airhead whose opinions about anything matter only to other airheads. Considering her popularity that’s a lot of airheads

I shouldn’t pick on her but..why not? She’s a celebrity and an “artist”. Years ago I bought one of her CD’s for my stepdaughter. My impression was that it was formulaic faux-emo machine music, digitized to fidgety perfection, inhuman and soulless, emanating from a vacuous cipher – TS herself. So she’s still around, the poster girl for This Modern World, that has forgotten God and is sliding into the abyss. Okay, a bit overwrought. I had some down time 🙂

I wouldn’t call that “overwrought” at all, just an extremely apt description of her music. Thank you for validating in very articulate words my general feelings, not only about her music, but most of what’s out there now. And that is why I only listen to classical music, and a maybe few oldies once in a blue moon anymore.

Classical of course, timeless and sublime. Especially Bach for me, for the glory of God. I’m fortunate to live near Tanglewood. TS is just “product”, what talent she has is beside the point, she prostitutes it in service to the darkness. What’s out there now is not music or art in any sense of the word. I find it intolerable. A sound track for the Last Days

Ooh, my favorite is Bach too, but I love baroque music, Vivaldi etc. So lucky you live next to Tanglewood! If this airs again on PBS it is worth catching.

TS’s music.. “A sound track for the Last Days”
LOL, isn’t’ that the truth. Again, a perfect description.

With her acting as satan’s-suck POS (D) fos-turd by soros, she should worry about becoming like Cat Stevens. Thereafter, she should worry about being like Pete Seeger and, thereafter, like Pussy Riot, because COMMUNISTS EAT THEIR OWN.

What happened to Pete Seeger? I know what should have happened to him.

He was blacklisted during the Red Scare, then became a hero to the left in the 60’s, then was mainstreamed. Then he got old and died

He should have just cut to the chase and died, like all Communists.

Johnny Carson once commented on how he doid not do political jokes because he could see no reason to alienate half his audience. People like Taylor Swift ought to think on that.

DC deserved their fate, in fact they doubled down on it. They destroyed their careers by not knowing who paid their freight.

Oddly enough, Maines was prophetic. Bush was every much as big a piece of shit as she said and a warmonger and he was an Illuminati satanist. But to say that in 2003 when we were still living in the shadow of 9/11, about to go to war, and most people still thought Bill O’Reilly literally spoke the word of God and had never heard of Alex Jones or Bill Cooper and literally thought the New York Times and Newsweek were news, was way too premature. Of course they say prophets, geniuses and visionaries are people living in the wrong… Read more »

Bush spared us from being attacked again on US soil and/or speaking Arabic. I’ll take him any day as PotUS. He was exactly what we needed at the time. ;~)

Well, Swift has let me know what she thinks of me and my family, so, why on earth would we spend another dime on her music/performances? But she can console herself with her communist ideology and friends.

Taylor is no different than most celebs, if being conservative was the popular thing in media, she’d do that too. Someone convinced her that taking a preachy political stance would help her image, that person was wrong. Case in point: Michael Jordan is considered the greatest living basketball player, possibly the best ever (LBJ is getting close to this crown), and definitely the best of the 80’s and 90’s, most people revere him to this day even though the secret has long been out about him being liberal. Most people have known it for the better part of 2 decades.… Read more »

Lebron is only good because he plays in an era of lightweights and limpwrists and because the rules are much softer now. Basketball used to be an aggressive, tough game. Lebron wouldn’t have lasted a day with the cast of players from 1985-1999.

I lost interest in B-ball after it became slammin’ and jammin’ ghetto ball. Now they run with the ball. It used to be a sport with rules so that dedicated gym rats like Larry Byrd could flourish, even afflicted as he was with “white mans disease”. Now tailored to the physiology and “culture” of the Nubian. Never seen bow-down-to-China Lebron play, zero interest

wasn’t she angry a few weeks ago a soros sponsered group bought all her songs rights ? guess she didn’t learn anything from that incident

Why do these egotistical twerps think anyone CARES about their opinions?! Shut up and sing, “Tailor”. IMO , you aren’t even good at that, but at least you aren’t insulting millions of Americans who are your intellectual and moral superiors.

She has an alright voice, but not great. Even old Stevie Nicks in 2010 could sing circles around Swift such as when they appeared together and performed Rhiannon

She ( and many others of her ilk) need a history lesson short and sweet: “Live by the sword, die by the sword.” In essence, that is what she is afraid of….but I’m betting, it won’t hold her back from continually sharing orally, projected out of her mouth, straight from cortex to tongue, every thought that crosses her mind. She and her ilk all think these thoughts are so precious, so “learned” (after all, they main-line CNN and CSNBC, etc for breakfast), that they MUST divulge them immediately, before even review of context or fact-checking, or relativity, or timeliness, and… Read more »

I don’t think she will ever stop giving oral lessons. Her price will just continue getting lower and lower, until she is a toothless whore at 55 on Skid Row looking for a hit of crack.

She’s an entertainer if you want to call her that. That and only that is all she is relatively famous for. The people who buy her music do so because she entertains them. Turn off the radio, TV or computer and she ceases to exist in any meaningful way. She exists publicly solely for entertainment and entertainment only. The Dixie Chicks fit the same mold. The were entertainers and they made controversial comments that alienated their audience and their audience said enough, and the rest is history. Like Ricky Gervais said, entertain us but nobody wants to hear you political… Read more »

I wouldn’t mind hearing their political views face to face but as a captive audience, you can’t filibuster on somebody else’s time when they aren’t soliciting it. For political views you listen to a debate or a lecture. But when you expect to hear music but instead it is hijacked by the musician to spout off about something they know nothing about, it is grating.

Natalie Maines’s comment did not exile the Dixie Chicks. Their terrible music did. They had some decent hits for a while, like Cowboy Take Me Away. But few groups can continue the success they had as a young band full of ideas. Eventually the well runs dry of ideas. Her comments did not help however. My second comment is to note what a hideous Jewhag like Lena Dunham did to another sweet, innocent, saccharine young White girl with her Jewish filth philosophies of feminism and wokeness, continuing to illustrate the absolutely pernicious influence Jews have had on her society. Swift… Read more »

I would not buy any of her music, as a musician, you need to keep your political beliefs to yourself. But Taylor has not.Hope she falls down the sewer

You are the monster you [yourself] created, now Taylor, be “Swift” about it girl, and deal with it. Learn the lesson well and please keep your trap shut and flies won’t get in. Like Frankie Valli used to sing “Big girls don’t Cry”, dumb girl.

Francesco Castellucio, from Newark NJ. His father was a barber. You don’t get more Italiano than that. Still performing and unlike the virtual and depraved “artists” of today, he has an abundance of talent, he can sing, compose, arrange, and act. Like Tony Bennett (Antonio Benedetto) he’ll never grow old. Must be the pasta

She could have remained silent, and I would not mind. I like some of her music. But like Harry and Meg, the moment she opens her mouth she becomes an enemy. Too bad. Taylor, just shut up and sing.

So, DAH! The lesson is: Keep politics out of your art unless your aim with your art is to influence/comment on politics and take a stand, as well as accept the consequences as well as the accolades…..If you can”t do so, just stick to singing or painting or whatever: The Great Picasso painted “La Guernica” as a comment on Spain’s Civil War. Taylor Swift doesn’t even approach Picasso’s gravitas or influence within her narrow world. AND, BLAH BLAH etc….I offer this as a person teaching in the visual and performing arts public venue….with 2 different degrees in such..BEFORE a degree… Read more »
