Liberal utopia of Seattle: Downtown family-owned drugstore closing due to crime

Last March I told you about Bartell Drug’s downtown Seattle store which had employees subject to violent assaults as criminals become more brazen. From my post:

The city’s problems are so severe that drugstore employees are routinely harassed and physically beaten at the downtown Seattle Bartell drugstore.

Hanna Kim for Q13 Fox reports that Bartell Drugs CEO Kathi Lentzsch says it will not open any more stores in downtown Seattle after violent assaults on employees. The CEO has been surprised over the number of incidents and the violence she is seeing in Seattle.

Surveillance videos inside Bartell Drugs have captured countless shoplifting cases. In one incident, video shows a man in one aisle quickly running off with up to $700 worth of skincare products.

Lentzsch says many times the criminals are bold and many of them are repeat offenders. “They will stand in front of our staff with a basket full of products and tell them we know you can’t come after us and walk out the door,” Lentzsch said.

“We’ve had too many cases of employees ending up in the hospital or with very serious issues,” Lentzsch said. Multiple employees have been rushed to the hospital because of violent assaults.

Sometimes it’s shoplifting that escalates to assaults or just unprovoked attacks. The situation is concerning enough that the company is rethinking their future in the downtown core of Seattle.

Apparently Bartell’s has had enough.

A story from KOMO states that crime concerns are forcing a local drugstore to close its location in downtown Seattle. From their story:

“Officials with Bartell Drugs confirmed they will be closing the 3rd and Union store early next year before their lease ends. They will continue to pay rent on the empty location through the end of the lease.

Police have stepped up patrols in the downtown core in recent months to address crime, but Bartell Drugs decided not to stick it out.

Officials said it’s senseless crime, like the ransacking seen on surveillance video that’s forcing downtown businesses like Bartell Drugs to pack up shop.

Bartell Drugs said the cost of stolen items and hiring armed security has become too high.

“The cost of doing business downtown due to the need for armed security guards, and the increases from a variety of Seattle’s costly requirements that have come into play over the past few years, now means that it costs us less to pay the rent with no offset than it does to operate the store,” Bartell Drugs said in a statement.”

Take a bow, Seattle bureaucrats!

Insanity in Seattle: Police arrest naked man after he stabs three people downtown

I’ll bet $1,000 that this perp has previous charges. Because we all know how well Seattle and King County take care of their criminals in the name of “criminal justice reform.”

From MyNorthwest.com: A man stabbed three people in downtown Seattle Tuesday morning, seemingly unprovoked and at random, before fleeing naked down the street as police pursued, eventually taking him into custody.

“We know he attacked three people randomly … we were able to get here quickly which is fortunate,” said Sergeant Sean Whitcomb with the Seattle Police Department.

Three men were stabbed: 77-year-old man stabbed in the back. Transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition; 75-year-old man stabbed in the neck. Transported to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition; and 55-year-old man stabbed in the forearm. Did not want to be taken to the hospital and was treated at the scene. He is in stable condition.

Seattle police were called to the scene near 1617 6th Avenue at 10:07 a.m. after reports of a stabbing on the sidewalk. One victim fled into a nearby business after being stabbed. By 10:20 a.m., the suspect, an adult male, was in custody near 8th Avenue and Olive Street. He was uninjured.

The man was fully clothed when the attack happened and then removed his clothing as he fled the scene.

“The suspect was naked upon apprehension” Whitcomb said. “I don’t know what his motive was, but he is in custody and is being questioned by police.”

“We tracked him down a couple blocks away before he could hurt anyone else,” he said. “… It is a tragedy that a stabbing like this happened, but he is in custody. We have our investigators working on this case and we are going to do everything that we can with the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to ensure that this suspect is charged and experiences the full weight of the law.”

Whitcomb said that the man did attempt to get rid of the weapon so investigators would not find it, but they were able to recover the knife and the suspect’s clothing in the area.

The suspect’s name and other details will be released when he is booked into King County Jail. Whitcomb said that could be later Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing.

————————–
And I KNEW IT: Police arrest 30-year-old Christopher Morisette.

Even before they announced this perp’s name, I looked up recent bookings in the King County Jail and I just knew it was this guy. His arrest record:

Today: Assault. Bail denied.
8/31/2018: Burglary, theft & criminal trespassing. Released from jail 9/29/2018.
11/15/2018: Assault. Charge reduced. Released from jail 1/01/2019.

In an update from MyNorthwest.com: Morisette “has an extensive criminal history and spent time at Western State, the state’s largest psychiatric hospital.” His most recent case involved an attack against a woman at a mental health facility. At the time, the Seattle City Attorney’s Office gave Morisette credit for time served, and released him from jail less than a month after the incident.

According to Heavy (see his crazy mug at the link), the perp’s first arrest was in 2012 and he’s been labeled as “High Violent With Multiple Violent Offenses” by the Washington State Department of Corrections.

Squatter tries to ambush Washington state father in his garage; man comes prepared with a firearm to fight knives

This was more than just a random attack. This was a “squatter” hiding in a man’s garage – with knives and a hammer – planning to ambush the property owner.

This is why you need the Second Amendment.

From KIRO 7 News: A Lake Stevens father said he was forced to fight off an armed intruder he and his son found hiding in their garage Friday. The evidence he found in the aftermath made him believe that man may have been looking to ambush him.

Now the intruder is in custody, but that Lake Stevens dad says he found nearly a dozen weapons strategically placed throughout his garage.

Shane McDaniel owns Norm’s Market — a minimart and keg-and-bottle shop in Lake Stevens. He said he came to check on the garage and workshop with his adult son, because his mother called and said someone had been working in the yard and garage all day Friday. She thought it might’ve been an employee, but said the man kept looking over at her and seemed suspicious.

Outside the garage, the intruder had pulled together many large slabs of wood – McDaniel said, apparently trying to form some kind of barricade.

But when he, his son and his son’s friend walked inside, that’s when the real trouble started and the intruder attacked. “It’s really a bizarre scene. And the scary thing is somebody could be that comfortable, and set up an ambush point in your own garage,” McDaniel said.

He said when they walked in, the door was open. “He was hiding behind the door here and then he had another knife over here,” McDaniel said. He said the suspect kept reaching inside his coat and appeared to be reaching for a gun. “He tosses the knife down with this one and he continues to reach so I fired the warning shot off to the side,” McDaniel said.

He said the suspect didn’t give up. “Then he just goes into full combat fight, he’s going to fight all of us,” McDaniel said.

He said they got into a fight but he and his son were able to pin down the suspect.

McDaniel said at least a dozen law enforcement units arrived and ended up arresting the intruder. They also questioned McDaniel about the gunshots he fired.

Only after the arrest did McDaniel and his family notice everything the intruder did while inside his garage – and all the weapons strategically placed around workshop.

He had a machete here that he brought with him,” McDaniel said. “He had a claw hammer. These are all his knives, he’s got a knife here, another one here,” he said pointing to all the knives.

McDaniel said they use the garage and workshop to refurbish wheelchairs and electric scooters they donate to people in need. Those wheelchairs – about seven or eight of them – were all arranged in a sort of circle and many of the knives were sitting on the chairs. “There is no way you’d have seen all knives stationed all around, machetes hammers axes. He made an ambush trap,” McDaniel said.

On one of the chairs, McDaniel said the suspect also left a syringe. “He’s probably sitting in here paranoid out of his mind, so he’s got these weapons and he’s ready for combat,” McDaniel said.

There were also beams with nails sticking out at the end, wires attached to the ceiling, a fort-type structure with car jumper cables attached to it, and a bong left behind by the intruder.

McDaniel believes the suspect camped out in the garage for at least a day or two. He said the suspect even changed the lock to this door and wrote his last name – Simpson – on the outside of the door, making himself at home.

“Do you think things would’ve turned out differently if you didn’t have your firearm?” KIRO7’s Deedee Sun asked. “Oh I think definitely, he’s got this place laden with weapons. So I think that would’ve been a good way to get stabbed,” McDaniel said.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t confirmed the identity of the suspect yet, but it appears he has been booked into the Snohomish County jail.

McDaniel said he’s just glad his mother noticed something strange going on and the intruder wasn’t able to ambush someone defenseless.

Police chief pushes back on Washington state’s new gun restrictions

While I admire this police chief turning the tables on the proggies via “sanctuary laws,” I would rather challenge Washington’s new law in court. I don’t like sanctuary status for illegal aliens and don’t want to see the whole country explode with “exemptions” to our laws.

From Fox News: One police chief in Washington State wants to make his city a “sanctuary” for gun owners.

Republic Police Department Chief Loren Culp is looking to shield his city from a new state law that imposes more strict limitations on firearms.

Initiative 1639 was recently approved in Washington and prevents individuals under the age of 21 from buying semiautomatic weapons.

The law also creates the potential for someone to be criminally prosecuted if he or she stores a gun where a “prohibited” person gains access to it.

Loren said on Sunday that he “cannot and will not” enforce the law, and that I-1639 almost eliminates the ability for individuals under the age of 21 to exercise their constitutional rights.

“It goes against the oath of my office,” he said on Fox & Friends.

Loren wrote on his department’s Facebook pageaccording to The Spokesman-Review, that he is recommending the “Second Amendment Sanctuary City Ordinance,” which would “prevent federal and state infringement on the right to keep and bear arms.”

He said Sunday that most of the counties across his state denied the I-1639 law, but that high-population areas like Seattle passed it.

“I have tremendous support of my community for doing this,” he said.

According to Seattle PI, the National Rifle Association has filed a lawsuit challenging the new law.

Portland Burgerville employees wear “Abolish ICE” buttons while at work; management caves to their demands

Burgerville Workers Union photo

Burgerville is a restaurant chain headquartered in Vancouver, Washington with 47 locations throughout Washington and Oregon.

The workers formed the Burgerville Workers Union in April 2016 which the company opposed. According to Wikipedia, in 2018, the workers of one Burgerville restaurant in southeast Portland voted 18-4 in an NLRB-administered election to form a labor union; the vote compels the company to officially recognize the Burgerville Workers Union (BVWU) and to collectively bargain with it. The BVWU is the only fast food union in the United States with federal recognition.

Now some union employees are taking a vocal political stance while working in private company uniforms.

Oregon Live reports that ten employees wore “Abolish ICE” and “No One Is Illegal” buttons last month while on the job at a Portland Burgerville location. They were told to remove their buttons while at work, refused to do so and were then sent home because they were in violation of company policy.

The next day, the company caved and allowed the employees to continue with their political pandering and even gave them pay for the time they were sent home.

A spokesman for the BVWU said the following: “We see the workplace as a central realm for combating white supremacy and anti-immigrant sentiment.”

The company is not pleased with this public display of personal political opinions at their private company. Yet the union workers continue with their antics. Oregon Live describes how employees have worn buttons with “messages opposed to fascism, police brutality and the Trump administration’s immigration policies.”

The workers don’t care that it makes customers uncomfortable. A spokesman for the company says that the feedback they’ve received indicates customers don’t want to see personal or political messages while they eat. Duh, they just want a burger and fries.

The company then formalized their policy and prohibited political buttons. But that didn’t stop the ten employees from wearing their political buttons. So then Burgerville put that new policy on hold.

Imagine being so infected with TDS that you purposely break a company policy and make customers feel uncomfortable all so you can feel better about your own political stance. Progressives are such bullies.

King County seeks to allocate $750,000 to help immigrants

dow-constantine

King County Executive Dow Constantine: “We have this much taxpayer money for illegals!”

Only in America: Illegally enter our country and the proggies will use taxpayer dollars to defend your “human rights.” Ain’t it grand?
From the Seattle Times: King County may allocate $750,000 to help immigrants become U.S. citizens and to educate them about their rights.
County Executive Dow Constantine plans to propose legislation to make the money available. Metropolitan King County Council Chair Joe McDermott plans to sponsor it.  They held a news conference Wednesday, but the legislation wasn’t yet available.
The money would be used for three purposes, according to Constantine and McDermott: to provide free guidance to immigrants seeking to become citizens, to develop and distribute “know your rights” materials and to boost outreach and education work carried out by community organizations that serve immigrants.
Constantine and McDermott say the legislation would create a “legal defense fund,” because it would pay for naturalization assistance. But that may be a stretch. Some other local governments, such as Los Angeles, are spending money to actually provide people facing deportation with immigration-court lawyers.
That doesn’t appear to be what Constantine has in mind, though McDermott said some of King County’s money would likely go to the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, which provides immigration-court representation, among other services.
Constantine linked the plan to President Donald Trump’s recent actions on immigration. “People in our community are afraid — afraid for their human rights, their families, and their safety,” he said in a statement. “Our message to the White House, the country, and the rest of the world is clear: We proudly uphold the fundamental American promise that we are — and will be — a nation of hope, freedom, and opportunity for all.
In an interview, McDermott said he views the legislation not only as a response to Trump’s actions but also as an investment in the people of the county. “Almost one-fourth of our residents are foreign-born,” he said.
Seattle is spending $250,000 to help immigrants and refugees navigate life under the Trump administration, with a focus on children in the city’s public schools. Mayor Ed Murray announced the allocation in November, details of his plan were still being hammered out last month. The City Council adopted a resolution last month that says the city will work to create a legal-defense fund.

Churches Vow to Offer Sanctuary to Illegal Aliens

I might take those who aid and abet illegal aliens a little more seriously if they were as determined to evict the illegals who kill and maim US citizens. MIGHT.

Sarah Root: Killed by an illegal alien

Sarah Root: Killed by an illegal alien.

From NBC New York: Hundreds of houses of worship are offering sanctuary to people who could face deportation if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on his campaign pledge to remove millions of immigrants living in the country illegally.
Kate Steinle: Killed by an illegal alien.

Kate Steinle: Killed by an illegal alien.

To some churches, sanctuary means spiritual support or legal assistance to fight deportation. Others promise or already are extending physical sanctuary by housing immigrants.
In Brockton, a poor city of about 95,000 people south of Boston, four churches have pledged to take in immigrants fearful of being deported. “If you need a safe place, once you enter the doors of this building, you are safe,” said the Rev. Abraham Waya, pastor of Central United Methodist Church, who said his church can shelter as many as 100 people. “We will host you and take care of you for as long as it takes.”
Jonathan Montez: Killed by an illegal alien.

Jonathan Montez: Killed by an illegal alien.

During the campaign, Trump pledged to “immediately terminate” President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration, including the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which has extended work permits and temporary deportation relief to more than 700,000 immigrants brought here illegally as youths.
In an interview with Time magazine published this week, Trump adopted a more sympathetic tone toward young immigrants, saying, “We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud.”
A spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the agency follows a 2011 policy to generally avoid entering “sensitive locations” such as schools, places of worship and hospitals to take custody of undocumented immigrants illegal aliens. The policy says enforcement actions can be conducted in those locations in cases of terrorism or when there are “exigent circumstances.”
About 450 houses of worship of various denominations nationwide have offered to provide some form of sanctuary, including living space, financial assistance or rides for schoolchildren, said Alison Harrington, pastor of Southside Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona.
Immigrants have been fearful for decades, particularly as deportations increased during the Obama administration, said Harrington, who is involved in the sanctuary movement on a national scale. But Trump’s campaign promises to build a wall along the Mexican border, to bar Muslims from entering the country and to deport millions “has really galvanized people,” she said.
The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, with more than 140 congregations, has adopted a resolution calling for “holy resistance” to Trump’s immigration proposals and declaring itself a “sanctuary diocese.”
Peter

Peter Pedemonti, Executive Director of New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia

In Philadelphia, a coalition of 17 churches and two synagogues said it has seen a huge uptick in the number of volunteers for a program offering support to immigrants when ICE raids their homes. The program had 65 volunteers in May. In the two weeks following Trump’s win, more than 1,000 new volunteers signed up, said Peter Pedemonti, executive director of the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia. “We know that we’re in a different historical moment right now and that our faith compels us to take increasingly bold actions,” Harrington said.
(Note: From the New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia web site: “4 Ways to Fight Trump. Excerpt: “This is terrifying. Trump’s campaign of hate, racism and exclusion took the White House.  The backlash of white voters was harsh and strong, and Trump’s rhetoric now has the power of the White House behind it.“)
electionshaveconsequences
Some churches have already made good on their promises. In Philadelphia, a 40-year-old man from Mexico has been living in the Arch Street United Methodist Church for three weeks.
Javier Flores entered the U.S. illegally in 1997 and has been deported and re-entered several times since then. After being held in an ICE detention center for over a year, the agency released him for 90 days so he could prepare for deportation. He did not want to be separated from his wife and three children, so he sought refuge, said the Rev. Robin Hynicka, senior pastor. “For us, we feel it’s a moral obligation to keep families together,” Hynicka said.
Ingrid Encalata Latorre, an immigrant from Peru, took sanctuary last week with her year-old son, Anibal, at a Quaker meeting house in Denver. Latorre, 32, has exhausted appeals of a deportation order and is awaiting a decision on a final, discretional appeal to immigration officials in Washington.
She left her native Cusco, Peru, in 2000 to join an aunt in Colorado, where she found work as a dishwasher, cared for kids, cleaned homes and worked at assisted living centers, she said. In 2002, she bought fake papers from an unscrupulous street seller.
She was arrested in 2010 and pleaded guilty to a felony ID theft charge. She paid $11,500 in back taxes and successfully completed parole, but her guilty felony plea brought her to ICE’s attention. Advocates arranged for LaTorre and Anibal to stay in the meeting house.
Anibal, a U.S. citizen, is being treated at Denver’s Childrens Hospital for a congenital twisted neck condition; her other son, 8-year-old Bryant, is also a U.S. citizen and attends a bilingual school in suburban Westminster. “I have lived half of my life here,” she said. “Don’t be afraid. Just fight and keep going.”

US Soldier in intensive care after attack outside restaurant in Tacoma

Hope they catch the cowards.

 Specialist Korry McClanahan

Specialist Korry McClanahan

From KIRO TV: He doesn’t look like my son right now,” said Lisa Senecal while in tears from her son’s bedside.  Specialist Korry McClanahan, 25, is motionless in bed, his head wrapped in gauze. Until late Friday night, he spent almost every day working out. Now his family doesn’t know if he’ll ever move again.
McClanahan got to Joint Base Lewis-McChord from Fort Hood, Texas, a few weeks ago. On Friday he and another soldier went to Steel Creek American Whiskey Co. in downtown Tacoma to play pool. At about midnight they went outside to smoke.
The other soldier says a group of six men, speaking in Russian, approached them and started picking a fight. The soldier says he and McClanahan wanted no part of it and tried to walk away.
The group followed and “bum rushed” them.  He says McClanahan was punched in the face. He was knocked out. When he fell, his head slammed into the ground.
The soldier says the men piled into a black Infiniti G35, model year 2005 or 2006. They sped off. He called 911. And McClanahan has not spoken since.

“They don’t know what the long term affect is going to be,” said his mother. She says her son has not responded to any commands. He has opened his eyes but does not seem to comprehend or react to anything.
She’s been whispering to him, telling him she loves him and he needs to get better for his own 4-year-old son.
She’s barely slept; worried she’ll miss some movement or communication from her son. Exhausted and in tears, she said she still wanted to talk to KIRO 7 because “no mother, no father, no family should have to go through what our family is going through.” She broke down, and barely managed to say, “They need to be caught.”
Tacoma police say an investigator has just gotten the case. They would not disclose any other information.
KIRO 7 went to Still Creek Grill and saw surveillance cameras inside the restaurant. Employees made it clear that the attack happened off their property and would not say whether the cameras had gotten images of the suspects inside the restaurant before the attack. An employee did say they were cooperating with police.
Senecal has no doubt that someone out there knows who put her son in the hospital. “They need to come forward because these men that did this need to be caught. If they aren’t caught they’ll just do this to someone else.”
