Envelopes sent to Mattis, Navy chief test positive for ricin

You don’t mess with Mad Dog.

From NY Post: Two envelopes addressed to Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson have initially tested positive for the deadly poison ricin at the Pentagon’s mail facility, according to a report.

The packages, which were delivered Monday, were intercepted before making it into the sprawling headquarters of the Defense Department in Virginia near Washington, DC, spokesman Chris Sherwood said Tuesday.

They triggered alarms as they underwent a security screening at the off-site mail processing center, according to the Military Times.

A defense official told CNN that the intended recipients were Mattis and Richardson.

“On Monday, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency detected a suspicious substance during mail screening at the Pentagon’s remote screening facility,” Army Col. Rob Manning, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

“The envelopes were taken by the FBI this morning for further analysis,” he said, adding that all US Postal Service mail received at the screening facility Monday was under quarantine and posed no threat to Pentagon personnel.

The FBI said in a statement that as the envelopes are undergoing further testing, “we will have no further comment.”

Ricin, a highly toxic compound extracted from castor beans, has been used in terror plots and is lethal in tiny doses if swallowed, inhaled or injected. It is 6,000 times more potent than cyanide.

If ingested, it causes nausea, vomiting and internal bleeding of the stomach and intestines, followed by failure of the liver, spleen and kidneys, and death by collapse of the circulatory system.

An A+ police report

There is an email circulating about this well-written police report:

police report
While this is very funny, alas, the email is not entirely true. The truth is that:

  1. The thief-assailant’s name is Tracey Attaway, not Tyrone Jackson. Here’s his mugshot:

    Tracey Attaway

    Tracey Attaway

  2. The four Marines did tackle and subdue Attaway until police arrived, but the Marines did NOT beat him up. And so, there was no need for the police to falsify their report.

I actually like the true story better than the email version because it shows that our Marines are truly men of good character and virtue. I’m so proud of how these four Marines conducted themselves!

The Biker And The African Lion. You Just Know This Is Not Going To End Well.

A Harley Biker is riding by the zoo in Washington, DC when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion‘s cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the collar of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.
The biker jumps off his Harley, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch.
Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly. A reporter has watched the whole event.

The reporter addressing the Harley rider says, ‘Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I’ve seen a man do in my whole life.’
The Harley rider replies, ‘Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger and acted as I felt right.’
The reporter says, ‘Well, I’ll make sure this won’t go unnoticed. I’m a journalist, you know, and
tomorrow‘s paper will have this story on the front page… So, what do you do for a living and what political affiliation do you have?’
The biker replies, I’m a U.S. Marine and a Republican.
The journalist leaves.
The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on the front page:

…and THAT pretty much sums up the media’s approach to the news these days…

Marines Pee on Dead Talibastards

Via foxnews.com:
Video appears to show marines urinating on bodies, sparking military investigation
Published January 11, 2012
The U.S. Marine Corps is launching an investigation into a video that recently surfaced online showing what appears to be several Marines in uniform urinating on corpses.
The video, which started Wednesday morning making the rounds on the Web, shows four men in full Marine combat gear standing over the bodies of what appear to be dead Taliban fighters. They look around before proceeding to urinate over the corpses. One of the men can be heard saying, “Have a great day, buddy.”
According to TMZ, the unnamed person responsible for posting the video included a caption reading, “scout sniper team 4 with 3rd battalion 2nd marines out of camp lejeune peeing on dead talibans,” though it wasn’t immediately clear if any of that information was accurate.
The Marine Corps issued a statement immediately after learning of the video, saying a full investigation is under way.
“While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps,” the statement read.
As the son of a Marine who fought in Korea, I only have one thing to say:
Piss on every last one of ’em. 😀
Semper Fi, Marines.

Marine shot 3 times in robbery survives…

by plugging bullet holes with his fingers!

One tough Marine!

DailyMail:  A U.S. Marine officer has told the incredible story of how he survived a street robbery by plugging bullet holes in his body with his fingers.  Lieutenant Colonel Karl Trenker, of Miramar, Florida, was shot three times as he confronted two men who had stolen a gold chain from him.
He said he used his battlefield training from Afghanistan and Iraq to stem blood from chest wounds by shoving his finger into the gaping wound. ’I knew I was shot,’ he said. ‘I just didn’t know I was shot that many times. I put my fingers in the holes to stop the bleeding and ran back to the truck and told my kids I had been shot, but not to worry.’
Lt Colonel Trenker added: ‘I go to Iraq and Afghanistan multiple times, and I haven’t been shot or blown up, and I’m here at home in Florida.’  Lt Colonel Trenker is in a serious but stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery following the shooting in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
He met two men who wanted to purchase his fiancée’s necklace she had advertised on Craigslist.  They tried to steal the necklace and cowardly shot the Trenker.
Other good news: Officers responding to the shooting found 20-year-olds James Flournoy and Jeff Steele close to the scene.  Both men remain in custody without bond and face attempted murder charges.
I have a feeling that if the Lt Colonel had been armed, those wannabe thieves would have been history!

Good News! Guam Will No Longer Tip Over!

That’s because on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives agreed to cut from the fiscal 2012 budget the entire $150 million in funding for the planned relocation of some 8,000 marines from Okinawa to Guam.
Democrat Congressman “my shoe size is bigger than my IQ” Hank Johnson can now rest easy. Recall that at a House Armed Services Committee hearing last year, he had expressed his trepidation that moving 8,000 marines to Guam would tip over the island.
Johnson is still “serving” Georgia’s 4th Congressional district and is still a member of the House Armed Services and Judiciary Committees. Did you know he’s an attorney? How did this man get through law school and pass the bar exam???

A War Hero Named Reckless

There is a great war hero who is listed alongside George Washington and Thomas Jefferson as one of the top 100 heroes of all time.
But this hero is not human.
This great hero was a Mongolian mare — a horse named Reckless.
Reckless was a pack horse during the terrible Korean war, and she carried recoilless rifles, ammunition and supplies to Marines.  Nothing too unusual about that, lots of animals got pressed into doing pack chores in many wars.

But this horse did something more. During the battle for a location called Outpost Vegas, Reckless made 51 trips up and down the hill, on the way up she carried ammunition, and on the way down she carried wounded soldiers.
What was so amazing? Well, she made every one of those trips without anyone leading her.
One can imagine a horse carrying a wounded soldier, being smacked on the rump at the top  of the hill, and heading back to the  “safety” of the rear. But to imagine the same horse, loaded with ammunition, and trudging back to the battle where artillery is going off, without anyone leading her is unbelievable. To know that she would make 50 of those trips is unheard of. How many horses would even make it back to the barn once, let alone return to the soldiers in the field even a single time?
Here is a clip of her story and photos to prove where she was and what she did.

For her heroism, Reckless was twice promoted — first to Sergeant, then to Staff Sergeant by the Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Reckless was retired at the Marine Corps Base in Camp Pendleton where a General issued the following order: “She was never to carry any more weight on her back except her own blankets.” This great valiant creature died in 1968 at the age of 20.

A Marine Faces the Rules

Marine Lindsay Starr. Photo via KDKA.

Rules are rules.  Then again, rules are made to be broken, right?  I normally don’t agree with “breaking the rules”. Yet when it comes to our U.S. Military, I will always make an exception. Always.  They sacrifice their lives for us.

A young 17-year-old Lindsay Starr, who recently graduated from Marine boot camp, decided she wanted to wear her Marine dress blues to her high school graduation ceremony. She was told no by the North Allegheny High School.

“When you wear this uniform, you wear it with pride”, Lindsay told CBS Pittsburgh.  “I’m just trying to show pride in what I belong to now. I belong to the United States Marine Corps as a 17-year-old,” she said. “Like, c’mon, now.”

Privately, teachers and students believe Starr should be able to wear her Marine dress blues. That doesn’t matter much. Administrators say policy is policy – wear the school colors – the cap and gown for the graduation ceremony – or don’t walk at all.

The school released a statement: “We have had these requests before. We just don’t do it. The required dress is cap and gown.”

Many commenters have said she is out of line. She should obey an “order” and “follow the rules”. Should she follow the required dress code?  When this young woman has decided to put her life on the line for our freedoms, shouldn’t she be able to wear that uniform with pride?
