Sunday Devotional: The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:1-3, 7-8, 12-17

In those days, God delivered all these commandments:
“I, the Lord am your God,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
You shall not have other gods besides me.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
For the Lord will not leave unpunished
the one who takes his name in vain.

“Remember to keep holy the sabbath day.
Honor your father and your mother,
that you may have a long life in the land
which the Lord, your God, is giving you.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,
nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass,
nor anything else that belongs to him.”

Moses and the Ten Commandments

an examination of conscience

1. I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.
Do I accord more importance to creation — to people and things? Do I idolize entertainers or politicians, idealizing and placing them on a pedestal? Am I my own god — grandiose, arrogant, and do as I will? Do I subscribe to a self-serving moral relativism– that what is right depends on the situation and on what benefits me? Do I practice humility by serving others? Do I ask for forgiveness when I have wronged another?
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Have my words denied, devalued, or insulted God? Do I use His holy name as a profanity, or as an emotional outburst?
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.
Do I avoid, when possible, work that impedes worship to God, joy for the Lord’s Day, and proper relaxation of mind and body? Do I look for ways to spend time with family or in service on Sunday? Do I say “Thank You” for all that He’s given me — my body, mind, work, family, friends, and for life itself?
4. Honor your father and your mother.
Do I show my parents due respect? Do I seek to maintain good communication with my parents where possible? Do I criticize them for lacking skills I think they should have? Do I blame them for my own flaws and problems? Do I honor that which they gave birth to by treating my body and mind with respect, and refraining from impairing and corrupting myself with drugs, indolence, and pornography?
5. You shall not kill.
Have I killed the body, no matter how small, of another? Have I injured another’s body, spirit and emotions with my actions and words?
6. You shall not commit adultery.
Have I stayed true to my marital vows? If unmarried, have I honored another’s marital exclusivity? Have I respected the physical and sexual dignity of others and of myself, and of the institution of marriage?
7. You shall not steal.
Have I taken or wasted the possessions, resources or time that belong to another? Have I dis-respected God’s creation by being wasteful and profligate?
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Have I told lies or embellished stories at the expense of another?
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s spouse.
Have I honored my spouse with my full affection and exclusive love? Have I, instead, longed for or lusted after another, including fantasy figures?
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.
Am I content with what I have, or do I compare myself to others, and feel envious, resentful, or entitled to what others have?

Satanic Temple wants prayer in school to the Devil

crucifix repels vampireJust like their father, the Devil, who twists and perverts God’s words, Satanists in America are hell bent on exploiting the Constitution’s First Amendment guarantees for their purpose.

In 2009, the conservative-led Oklahoma state legislature approved a privately funded Ten Commandments monument, which was erected last year outside the state Capitol building.

While atheists and the ACLU oppose the Ten Commandment monument on the grounds of the First Amendment’s misinterpreted “separation of church and state” — a phrase not found in the First Amendment but originates in an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson — a group of New York-based devil worshippers who call themselves the Satanic Temple, demand their right to erect a monument to Satan next to the Ten Commandments in the name of “religious parity.”

Below is the Satanic Temple’s proposed 7-foot-tall statue of Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that’s often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

Baphomet

Now, the Satanic Temple, in the name of “protecting the children,” wants in on the right to pray in school – as long as they can pray to the devil.

Brownie Marie reports for Christianity Today, April 14, 2014, that the devil worshipers say they are fighting for the rights of public school students to learn in a cruelty-free classroom.

In a press release, the Temple declared May 15 as “Protect Children Day” to promote the rights of public school students to learn in a cruelty-free classroom, free of physical and mental abuse.

Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said, “One of the fundamental tenets of The Satanic Temple is personal sovereignty and the inviolability of one’s body and mind. Hitting a child or placing them in solitary confinement goes entirely against our beliefs. We want children to know that they are permitted to pray to Satan in school and that they can even share their religious beliefs with others in accordance with certain guidelines.”

Lucien GreavesGreaves makes the devil’s horns hand-sign (Oops! Excuse me! it’s really the “I love you” sign of deaf-mutes! No, it’s really the Texas Longhorns handsign! Sarc) at a Satanic Temple rally in Tallahassee, on Jan. 25, 2013, in support of Florida Governor Rick Scott’s Senate Bill 98.

Students are encouraged to register on Satanic Temple’s website, ProtectChildrenProject.com, where they are asked to submit their name, email address, and the name of their school in order to receive “help” from the Temple. The organization sanctimoniously insists that submission does not make one a Temple member, and is open to all denominations.

However, at the same time as ProtectChildrenProject.com provides fact sheets on physical and psychological abuse in schools, also available is a Satanic activity book.

Parents and grandparents, beware!!!!!!!!!

Lies are a hallmark of evil

John 8:43-47

Why do you not understand what I say?
Because you cannot bear to listen to my words.
You are from your father, the devil,
and you prefer to do what your father wants.
He was a murderer from the start;
he was never grounded in the truth;
there is no truth in him at all.
When he lies he is speaking true to his nature,
because he is a liar,
and the father of lies.

But it is because I speak the truth
that you do not believe me.
Can any of you convict me of sin?
If I speak the truth,
why do you not believe me?

Whoever comes from God
listens to the words of God;
the reason why you do not listen
is that you are not from God.

Anthony Esolen writes in Catholic World Report that our Lord Jesus the Christ reminds us to speak plainly and directly, “Let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.” (Matthew 5:37).Therefore, we who are committed to holiness must be committed to clarity of intention and speech. For:

The lie is the distinguishing feature of evil, because of its self-devouring commitment to what is not: it is an inner vacuity. […]

Orwell’s dystopian regime in 1984 rests upon a ground floor of terror and violence, but its bedrock foundation is the lie: witness the hero Winston Smith’s work at the “Ministry of Truth,” sending precious archival materials down the “memory hole,” where they will be lost forever. It is why Dante situates fraud below violence in the Inferno’s decrepit descent into non-being and idiocy; so we find the giant Nimrod, builder of the heaven-aspiring Tower of Babel, sputtering gibberish, and the consummate liar Satan uttering not a single word, but telling the same old lie again and again with every flap of his bat-like wings, “I rise by my own power.”

Esolen notes that the result of lies is confusion and chaos. Indeed, the late Malachi Martin with keen insight had observed that whereas simplicity and clarity are the hallmark of goodness, a confounding complexity is a mark of evil because the labyrinth of lies is confusing.

Former satanist Deborah Lipsky, now a specialist in education in Maine, can testify to all this.

Before her return to the Church, Lipsky had spent years in Satanism, where she gained sharp insight into the various ways and reasons demons gain power in our lives.

Lipsky says the occult is the foremost way that evil enters our realm, along with sexual immorality, negativity, hatefulness, and other forms of sin. But often people forget about seemingly trite and common practices such as lying, which in our day is rampant, to the point where lying has become our second nature. Lies in sales pitches, advertising, politics, and in personal relationships. We rationalize lying, and consider some forms like white lies, harmless. But there is no such thing as a “half-truth.” There are only “half-lies.”

In her new book, A Message of Hope, Lipsky points out that lying is one of the devil’s most effective ways to separate us from God, for at the heart of darkness is the Prince of Deception:

“Untruthfulness of any sort is the sort of ‘stuff’ demons feed on. It is a vibrational pattern that mirrors their essence. As they absorb this ‘energy’ of lying emanating from you, they grow stronger. Lying is beyond question the most toxic activity we can engage in. Every time we ignore the truth, we ignore God. God is Truth. When we lie, we can’t be part of that because He is absolute truth. Lying is a demon’s native tongue. When you lie, you are not only speaking the language demons can connect with, but you also are in sync with a demon’s nature. […]

We convince ourselves that under certain conditions telling a lie isn’t a sin. If anything, the one you are deceiving is you! Demons aren’t finicky; they will feed on any deception including white lies. I am guilty of knowingly telling white lies because I don’t want the person to suffer undue emotional stress if they can’t handle the truth at hand. That doesn’t make it right. Telling a full lie or half-truth is the quickest way to nourish a demon. If a lie is an especially ‘juicy’ one, you can bet that the initial demon drawn to your lie will scream out ‘buffet!’ so as to attract his buddies. Demons are not only pack hunters, but they are also communal feeders.”

It is no wonder, then, Lipsky warns, that “The Holy Spirit and Holy Angels including your guardian angel will ‘step back’ a step … when you engage in telling a lie because they refuse to co-inhabit in your ‘space’ with any hint of evil.”

Yikes!!!

The plain truth is we are breaking one of the Ten Commandments (the 9th) every time we lie.

And it’s not just the 9th Commandment, for lying is at the basis of every one of the Ten Commandments.

Think about it . . . .

Telling lies causes bondage that eventually clouds our judgment. In contrast, the truth — and only the truth — sets us free. The truth also brings Joy and an inner serenity. For, in the end, “If you please God, it matters not whom you displease, but if you displease God, it matters not whom you please” because “The Lord hates lying lips, but those who speak the truth are His joy.” –Proverbs 12:22

“I am the way and the truth and the life.” (John 14:6).

“I am the light of the world; anyone who follows me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Satanists want to build a 7-ft tall statue of Satan next to 10 Commandments

Remember my post of about a month ago, on a group of New York-based devil worshippers who call themselves the Satanic Temple — in the name of “religious parity” — planning to erect a monument to Satan next to the Ten Commandments outside the state capitol building in Oklahoma?
10 commandments monument outside Oklahoma state Capitol
In 2009, the conservative-led Oklahoma state legislature approved a privately funded Ten Commandments monument, which was erected last year outside the state Capitol building. Ever since the approval, opponents have called into question the constitutionality of the monument. The Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit seeking its removal.
Similar requests for other “religious parity” monuments have been made by a Hindu leader in Nevada, an animal rights group and the satirical Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
In response, the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission recently placed a moratorium on considering any new requests. “Anybody can still make their request, but we’ll hold off on considering them until the [ACLU] lawsuit is adjudicated,” commission Chairman Trait Thompson said.
Well, the Satanic Temple has chosen a design for their monument.
CBS New York reports from Oklahoma City that yesterday, Jan. 6, 2014, the Satanic Temple unveiled designs for a 7-foot-tall statue of Satan. The group hasy submitted its application to the Capitol Preservation Commission, including an artist’s rendering that depicts Satan as Baphomet, a goat-headed figure with horns, wings and a long beard that’s often used as a symbol of the occult. In the rendering, Satan is sitting in a pentagram-adorned throne with smiling children next to him.

BaphometDesign submitted by Satanic Temple

Satanic Temple spokesman Lucien Greaves said in a statement: “The monument has been designed to reflect the views of Satanists in Oklahoma City and beyond. The statue will also have a functional purpose as a chair where people of all ages may sit on the lap of Satan for inspiration and contemplation.”
The push by The Satanic Temple has rankled elected leaders in this conservative state known as the buckle of the Bible Belt, who say such a proposal would never be approved by the commission.
“I think you’ve got to remember where you are. This is Oklahoma, the middle of the Heartland,” said Rep. Don Armes (R-Faxon). “I think we need to be tolerant of people who think different than us, but this is Oklahoma, and that’s not going to fly here.”
Another Oklahoma legislator, Rep. Earl Sears (R-Bartlesville), called the group’s effort “an insult to the good people of the state. I do not see Satanism as a religion, and they have no place at the state Capitol.”

But Greaves says “We plan on moving forward one way or another” and claims to have raised nearly half of the $20,000 needed to build the monument.
