The Guardian: Want to fight climate change? Have fewer babies!

white babies picture from the guardian stop images

The Guardian’s photo of choice/Stop Images

Notice the picture that The Guardian chose to use: it’s only white babies. What are they trying to tell us?
From The Guardian: The greatest impact individuals can have in fighting climate change is to have one fewer child, according to a new study that identifies the most effective ways people can cut their carbon emissions.
The next best actions are selling your car, avoiding long flights (paging Leo), and eating a vegetarian diet. These reduce emissions many times more than common green activities, such as recycling, using low energy light bulbs or drying washing on a line. However, the high impact actions are rarely mentioned in government advice and school textbooks, researchers found.
Carbon emissions must fall to two tonnes of CO2 per person by 2050 to avoid severe global warming, but in the US and Australia emissions are currently 16 tonnes per person and in the UK seven tonnes. “That’s obviously a really big change and we wanted to show that individuals have an opportunity to be a part of that,” said Kimberly Nicholas, at Lund University in Sweden and one of the research team.
The new study, published in Environmental Research Letters, sets out the impact of different actions on a comparable basis. By far the biggest ultimate impact is having one fewer child, which the researchers calculated equated to a reduction of 58 tonnes of CO2 for each year of a parent’s life.
The figure was calculated by totting up the emissions of the child and all their descendants, then dividing this total by the parent’s lifespan. Each parent was ascribed 50% of the child’s emissions, 25% of their grandchildren’s emissions and so on.
“We recognise these are deeply personal choices. But we can’t ignore the climate effect our lifestyle actually has,” said Nicholas. “It is our job as scientists to honestly report the data. Like a doctor who sees the patient is in poor health and might not like the message ‘smoking is bad for you’, we are forced to confront the fact that current emission levels are really bad for the planet and human society.”
“In life, there are many values on which people make decisions and carbon is only one of them,” she added. “I don’t have children, but it is a choice I am considering and discussing with my fiance. Because we care so much about climate change that will certainly be one factor we consider in the decision, but it won’t be the only one.”

Muslim UK student union president sparks controversy by saying she would like to oppress white people

zamzam

Racist student union leader ZamZam

Ain’t multiculturalism grand?
From Daily Mail: Muslim student union leader has claimed she would like to ‘oppress white people’ and has suggested there would be an Islamic takeover if more people read the Koran.
Zamzam Ibrahim, who was elected President of Salford University‘s Student Union in March, also suggested friendship between men and women is un-Islamic and is opposed to the government’s anti-radicalisation strategy.
The Swedish-Somali student officer also described the government’s Prevent strategy as ‘disastrous’ and ‘racist’.
In one message she responded to a question on AskFM on what book everyone should read. She said: ‘The Quaraan. We would have an Islamic takeover!’
In another message on the topic of the possibility of friendship between a man and a woman, she replied: ‘I’ve had this debate with many friends! Maybe in some cases but Islamically it’s incorrect for girls to be friends with a guy anyway! So I’m gonna say NO not the kind of friendship they can have with the same gender there is always boundaries.’
In one tweet from May 9, 2012 under the hashtag #ifIwasPresident, she wrote: ‘I’d oppress white people just to give them a taste of what they put us through!’
Ms. Ibrahim was also recently elected to the National Union of Students (NUS) Block of 15 committee. She has also completed a BSc in Business and Financial Management.
During her campaign for election with the NUS, Ms Ibrahim, who is a Muslim, claimed: ‘Since Brexit referendum result, there has been a rise in hate crime by 41 per cent. NUS needs to continue the great work on combating racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, homophobic and ableist hate crime.
‘If elected, I will continue to work with NUS Officers and ARAF campaigns to develop networks to support students and activists affected by Hate Crime, to fight against the disastrous racist PREVENT strategy and support international students and migrant communities.’
The student union at the college – where Manchester Arena bomber Salman Abedi attended – is opposed to the government’s PREVENT strategy.
According to The Spectator, Ms. Ibrahim has deleted a large number of messages form her social media accounts.
According to the Student’s Union: ‘The government’s Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a statutory requirement on public bodies – including universities – to “prevent people being drawn into terrorism”.
‘The Prevent agenda, as part of the Government’s “anti-extremism” work has been used to create an expansive surveillance architecture to spy on the public and to police dissent, systematically targeting Black people and Muslims.’
The students claimed the government’s prevent strategy was ‘demonising Muslim students on campus’.
One college source told MailOnline: ‘Given that as Student Union President involved working with students of all walks of life, it’s a bit inappropriate for someone like her to hold the role of representing students.’
MailOnline has approached the National Union of Students and Salford Unversity’s Students Union to seek a comment from Ms. Ibrahim.
Ms. Ibrahim’s comments follow the controversy surrounding former NUS president Malia Bouattia, who failed to get re-elected earlier this year.
Ms. Bouattia became subject of a Commons home affairs committee meeting after she described Birmingham University as a ‘Zionist outpost’.
In scathing findings, the committee said that she did not appear to take the issue of campus anti-Semitism ‘sufficiently seriously’ and showed a ‘worrying disregard’ for her duty to represent all students and promote balanced and respectful debate.
Ms. Bouattia’s statement in a co-authored 2011 blog that Birmingham ‘has the largest Jsoc (Jewish Society) in the country whose leadership is dominated by Zionist activists’ was condemned in the MPs’ report as ‘unacceptable, and even more so from a public figure such as the president of the NUS’.

Thousands of illegal immigrants who fled to Canada in fear of Trump are trapped in legal limbo

justin trudeau welcomes immigrants
Good luck Canadian taxpayers. Enjoy paying for their hotel stays and gym visits.
From Daily Mail: Thousands of people who fled to Canada to escape President Donald Trump‘s crackdown on illegal migrants have become trapped in legal limbo because of an overburdened refugee system, struggling to find work, permanent housing or enroll their children in schools.
Refugee claims are taking longer to be completed than at any time in the past five years, according to previously unpublished Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) data provided to Reuters.  Those wait times are set to grow longer after the IRB in April allocated ‘up to half’ of its 127 tribunal members to focus on old cases.
The number of delayed hearings more than doubled from 2015 to 2016 and is on track to increase again this year.
Hearings are crucial to establishing a claimant´s legal status in Canada. Without that status, they struggle to convince employers to hire them or landlords to rent to them.  Claimants cannot access loans or student financial aid, or update academic or professional credentials to meet Canadian standards.
Canada’s refugee system was struggling to process thousands of applications even before 3,500 asylum seekers began crossing the U.S. border on foot in January. It lacks the manpower to complete security screenings for claimants and hear cases in a timely manner.
Often there are not enough tribunal members to decide cases or interpreters to attend hearings, the IRB said. More than 4,500 hearings scheduled in the first four months of 2017 were cancelled, according to the IRB data.
The government is now focused on clearing a backlog of about 24,000 claimants, including people who filed claims in 2012 or earlier.
That means more than 15,000 people who have filed claims so far this year, including the new arrivals from the United States, will have to wait even longer for their cases to be heard.
Asylum cases are already taking longer to finalize, on average, than at any time since Canada introduced a statutory two-month time limit in 2012. This year, it has been taking 5.6 months on average, compared to 3.6 months in 2013.
Mohamed Daud, 36, left his family and a pending refugee claim in the United States and walked into Canada in February after hearing rumors of U.S. immigration raids.
Daud, originally from Somalia, had been living and working legally in Nebraska but feared he would be detained and then deported at an upcoming check-in with immigration officials. His May 8 hearing with a Canadian refugee tribunal was cancelled three days beforehand. He has not been given a new date.
‘I don´t know when they will call me. I can´t work. It isn’t easy,’ said Daud. While waiting for a work permit, he gets approximately C$600 ($453) a month in government social assistance and shares a room in an apartment with six other asylum seekers.
Still, Daud doesn’t regret abandoning his life in the United States. ‘The worry, the fear is the same,’ he said.
To try to speed cases through, Canada’s refugee tribunal has put people from certain war-torn countries such as Syria and Yemen on an expedited track that requires no hearings.
Border agents are working overtime to address the backlog in security screenings, said Scott Bardsley, spokesman for Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, who oversees the Canada Border Services Agency.
Asylum claimants are eligible for work permits while awaiting hearings, but employers are often reluctant to employ people with temporary social insurance numbers whose future is uncertain, refugee lawyers told Reuters. ‘How do you establish yourself when your status is unknown?’ said Toronto-based lawyer Aadil Mangalji.
This year is on track to be the highest year for refugee claims since at least 2011, according to government statistics.
The stresses on the Canadian system mirror those of other countries with an open door policy. In Sweden, rising financial strains involved in resettlement were partly behind a move to introduce tough asylum laws.
Honduran Raul Contreras, 19, who walked across the Quebec border in March and whose hearing has been postponed indefinitely, is staying in a government-subsidized Toronto hotel with his mother, step-father and uncle.
Contreras, who spends his days at a local library or working out in the hotel gym, says he has been repeatedly rejected by landlords. ‘They just said that they didn’t rent places to refugee claimants,’ he said. ‘(They) said that refugees don’t have jobs and probably wouldn’t pay.’

Syrian asylum seeker is jailed for life in Sweden after footage emerged of him taking part in the execution of seven men in 2012

sakhanh-syria-refugee

The criminal refugee Sakhanh, far left (circled in red)

And proggies wonder why many Americans want a refugee ban and stronger vetting processes. Go figure…
From Daily Mail: A Swedish court on Thursday sentenced a Syrian man to life imprisonment for participation in the 2012 mass execution of seven government troops in Syria.
The Stockholm District Court ruled that 46-year-old refugee Haisam Omar Sakhanh joined the armed group Suleiman Company in early May 2012, and shot a person dead with an assault rifle.
Judge Tomas Zander said the victim, who was not identified, was shot dead along with six others ‘under particularly cruel circumstances’. The seven men who were shot were part of the Syrian regime who had been captured by the independent Islamist group, which was founded in 2011.
The Islamist armed group captured the men during an attack at the beginning of May 2012, and the seven were shot to death less than two days later, according to Stockholms Tingsratt. In the years since the execution, it has been impossible to identify the victims.
Sakhanh had confessed to the shooting but said he should not be prosecuted because the death sentences had been made by a legitimate court, something the Swedish court rejected. It also rejected his defense that he had been following orders.
The group Sakanh was part of, the Suleiman Company, is a Islamic rebel group independent of Free Syrian Army that was formed in 2011 during the Syrian uprising. The group is mainly active in the Idleb countryside’s Jebel al-Zawiya region, and is led by former drug smuggler and Salafi militant Abu Suleiman al-Hamawi, according to TrackingTerrorism.org.
The court said Sakanh had been active in Italy in 2011 and 2012 where he protested against the Syrian government.
Italian police helped investigators in Sweden to identify him via fingerprints and photos of him illegally entering the Syrian Embassy in Rome during a protest, according to the court ruling obtained by The Associated Press.
After his stint in Italy, Sakhanh returned to Syria before heading north to Sweden where he sought asylum in Sweden in 2013.  He failed to inform authorities about the executions and was given refugee status and permanent residence permit in early 2016.  He has been held in pre-trial custody since March.
In a statement, the court said Sakhanh’s crime ‘is so high that the punishment has been ruled to be life imprisonment’.  In Sweden, life imprisonment is normally ten years. The court said Sakhanh should then be expelled from the country and banned from returning.

Islamic State flag free to fly on Facebook in Sweden, prosecutor rules

ISIS
From Fox News: A Swedish prosecutor may have set a dangerous precedent last week in regards to the Islamic State flag.
Prosecutor Gisela Sjovall announced last week that a 23-year-old man wouldn’t be charged after posting the flag to his Facebook page in June, according to The Local. Authorities in Laholm had investigated the man, who came to Sweden from Syria, on suspicion of committing “hate speech.”
In comparison to the Nazi symbol which has come to be a symbol for prejudice against Jewish people, the same couldn’t be said for the Islamic State flag, Sjovall added. “Up until now, we haven’t come to that point,” she told the Hallandsposten, a local newspaper. “That could change in ten years.”
The Local noted that under Sweden’s hate speech laws, for an image to be considered “hate speech,” it needs to threaten or disparage a group of people in connections to their race, nationality, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.

No disparagement here...

No disparagement here…

“If there had been anything in the text (posted alongside the flag) with more specific formulations about certain groups, for example homosexuals, the ruling could have been different,” Sjovall said.  “For me, there are no doubts about the decision not to prosecute.”
Sjovall said the man told authorities in June that he does not support ISIS. The man’s lawyer said that what he posted wasn’t an ISIS flag, but a symbol of what had been used within Islam for hundreds of years before ISIS misconstrued its meaning.
The flag had already been banned in the Netherlands and Germany. Former British Prime Minister David Cameron had also said that anyone displaying the ISIS flag should be arrested, but there wasn’t a law barring people from displaying it.

Wheelchair-bound woman raped by refugees at Sweden asylum center

Paging George and Amal Clooney.
rapefugees
From Fox News: A wheelchair-bound woman was gang raped by six asylum seekers, Swedish police have said.
The unnamed disabled woman had asked to use a toilet at a nearby asylum center after sharing a taxi with one of its residents. But after she was invited inside, the woman, in her 30s, was attacked by the man and six of his fellow migrants.
A furious group of more than 100 Swedes have since attacked the centre in Visby, pelting it with rocks.
The victim’s lawyer Staffan Fredriksson told local newspaper Aftonbladlet: “She followed him in and had no fears that something would happen. Then the man took advantage of the situation. The abuse started in the toilet.” He added: “She is completely broken down.”
Five men, all aged in their 20s, have since been arrested by Swedish police following the incident on October 2. They are yet to release the men’s nationalities or identities.
Sweden has been at the forefront of efforts to accept migrants fleeing conflicts in places like Syria and Afghanistan. Last year alone it is estimated to have taken in more than 200,000 asylum seekers – around 2 percent of its population.
Germany, by comparison, accepted the equivalent of 1 percent over the same period.
“She got paralyzed in this situation and was not able to bring herself to resist physically, other than saying no.”

Male Muslim students won’t shake hands with female teachers

One could argue that Sharia Law will never allow Muslims to assimilate.
handshake
Via NY Post: Female teachers at a Swiss high school won’t be getting any handshakes from their male Muslim students anymore — and local officials are outraged.
Two teen students got a school in the northern municipality of Therwil to rule that they can forgo the Swiss custom of shaking their instructor’s hand because it violates their religious beliefs, according to The Local.
But the decision angered many local leaders including Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga, who went on TV Monday blasting the new policy, insisting “shaking hands is part of our culture. We cannot tolerate that women in the public service are treated differently from me,” said Christopher Eymann, who runs the Swiss Conferences of Cantonal Ministers of Education.
Muslim groups stood behind the decision, arguing that the students were not trying to be impolite. “One would think that the continued existence of Switzerland’s core values was at stake, when this particular case in fact involves just two high school students who have said they wish to greet their teacher in a different way than with a handshake,” Switzerland’s Islamic Central Council said in a statement.
The Quran, the religious book of Islam, forbids men from touching women who are not members of their immediate families or their wives.
I discovered last night (via Hot Air), that the boys are brothers, ages 14 and 15, and one of them posted material on his Facebook page in support of ISIS, the Basler Zeitung online newspaper reported. This information came from USA Today.

Waking up: Finland plans to boot out 20,000 refugees

They should have thought through the consequences before they even accepted them. I guess better late than never to realize your mistakes.
rapefugeesAccording to PressTV, Finland is set to expel tens of thousands of the asylum seekers who arrived in the country last year amid the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe.
Paivi Nerg, Finnish Interior Ministry’s administrative director, announced that Helsinki expects to expel nearly 20,000 refugees out of the 32,000 it received in 2015. The official stressed that each application was being evaluated individually.
“In principle we speak of about two-thirds, meaning approximately 65 percent of the 32,000 will get a negative decision (to their asylum application),” said Nerg, adding, “In previous years around 60 percent (of applicants) received a negative decision but now we have somewhat tightened our criteria for Iraqis, Afghans and Somalis.”
Nerg further said at least two charter flights to deport Iraqis were planned within the following months.
Earlier in the day, Swedish Interior Minister Anders Ygeman said Stockholm intends to expel as many as 80,000 refugees whose applications for asylum have been rejected.

Refugee center worker stabbed to death by young migrant in Sweden

Maybe Sweden needs to offer a class to teach immigrants the difference between right and wrong.

Victim Alexandra Mezher

Victim Alexandra Mezher

(Via Yahoo) A young asylum seeker on Monday allegedly stabbed to death an employee at a refugee center in Sweden as police demanded more resources to stem rising violence linked to the migrant crisis. The victim, 22 year-old Alexandra Mezher, was rushed to a nearby hospital after being stabbed repeatedly, but later died.
Police spokesman Thomas Fuxborg said the assailant was a young man residing at a center for youngsters aged between 14 and 17 in Molndal near Gothenburg on Sweden’s west coast. He did not give details about the suspect’s age or nationality but said he had been arrested for murder. Swedish news agency TT said he was 15 years old.  The motive was not immediately clear.
are you serious
These kinds of calls are becoming more and more common. We’re dealing with more incidents like these since the arrival of so many more refugees from abroad,” said Fuxborg as Sweden struggles with a record influx of migrants and asylum seekers.
The attack came as National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson requested 4,100 additional officers and support staff to help fight against terrorism, carry out migrant deportations and police asylum facilities.
We are forced to respond to many disturbances in asylum reception centers. In some places, this takes significant police resources. This was not the case six months ago and it means that we won’t be able to respond as effectively in other areas,” Eliasson told TT.

According to the Swedish Migration Agency, the number of threats and violent incidents at asylum facilities more than doubled from 2014 to 2015 as Sweden witnessed a record number of migrant arrivals.

Dear Bill Gates: Open your home to refugees or shut up!

Bill Gates told the the BBC that the United States “should set a better example” by taking in more refugees. He said his home country “had the capacity” to follow the examples of Germany and Sweden, who were “to be congratulated.” GAG. Read all the details here.
rapefugees
I doubt the victims of the New Year gang assaults carried out by refugees in Cologne, Germany share the same sentiment as Gates. And I’m guessing neither do the victims of sexual harassment by refugees at the We Are Stockholm youth festival in Sweden.
Course Mr. Gates hasn’t opened up his home to refugees like Fat Boy offered. And he has the capacity to shelter refugees. Gate’s home is an astounding 66,000 square feet. Plenty of room for some refugees there, wouldn’t you agree?
