How ‘Poltergeist’ child actress Heather O’Rourke died

Heather O’Rourke was the beautiful, platinum-blonde child actress who uttered the famous line, “They’re here!,” in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 horror film, Poltergeist.

O’Rourke reprised her role as Carol Anne Freeling in Poltergeist II and III, and had a recurring role in the TV sitcom Happy Days (1982-83), as well as TV guest appearances.

In February 1988, at the age of 12, O’Rourke died of cardiac arrest and septic shock caused by a misdiagnosed intestinal stenosis (stenosis means abnormal narrowing).

From Wikipedia:

O’Rourke became ill in early 1987 and was misdiagnosed by doctors at Kaiser Permanente Hospital as having Crohn’s disease. She was prescribed prednisone to treat the disease, which caused her cheeks to appear puffy and large.[19] On January 31, 1988, O’Rourke suddenly became ill again, vomiting and unable to keep anything in her stomach. The next morning, she collapsed while preparing to leave for the hospital and her stepfather called paramedics. O’Rourke suffered a cardiac arrest en route to the hospital, and after resuscitation, she was airlifted by helicopter to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego,[10] where she died later that day.

Speaking to reporters, O’Rourke’s manager David Wardlow initially announced that it was believed she died of influenza.[20][21] However, hospital spokesman Vincent Bond announced that O’Rourke died during surgery to repair an acute bowel obstruction (caused by congenital stenosis of the intestine)[22] complicated by septic shock;[3][23] this report was corroborated by the San Diego County coroner’s office on February 3, two days after her death.[24] Later reports changed the specific cause of death to cardiac arrest caused by septic shock brought on by the intestinal stenosis.

Note the changing and varying accounts of the cause of O’Rourke’s death.
O’Rourke’s mother filed a malpractice lawsuit against Kaiser Permanente. Below is an excerpt from the jury verdict:

All experts agreed that Heather’s congenital [intestinal] stenosis was a very rare presentation of a very rare condition and that it was not malpractice to misdiagnose the condition as Crohn’s disease. According to the expert testimony, a narrow bowel usually causes problems early in life, not for the first time at age 11, and it is rare to have few or no symptoms with sudden severe development of a life-threatening condition.

I remember that, upon hearing of her death in 1988, I had thought her “acute bowel obstruction” to be odd. Now, a “blind reveal” on the Hollywood gossip site, Crazy Days and Nights, sheds light on just what the “acute bowel obstruction” was.

Crazy Days and Nights’ blogger calls himself Ent Lawyer (Ent=Entertainment) who says he’s never been sued. He is described by The Daily Beast as having a track record of accuracy. Investigative journalist Mark Ebner said this about Ent Lawyer:

“In my opinion, that’s what makes him so impressive, is that no one knows who he is, and he’s being proven right again and again. That’s like legendary shit.”

Below is the blind reveal on Heather O’Rourke.

Blind Items Revealed #40
Crazy Days and Nights † November 9, 2017

Back in the mid-80’s was peak child molesting time in Hollywood. There was no internet. There were very very few mobile phones. Children came to the set where they were left alone by their parents. For the next 8 hours they were subject to every kind of horrible thing you can imagine. Drugs were commonplace. They were used to try and get the kids to not be so hysterical when being assaulted.
Producers loved casting shows with kids and tweens. If someone pitched a show that involved a handful of tweens with a dozen tween extras per week, it would get a green light. Even if the show was going to suck, and everyone knew it was going to suck, if you got the right pedo at a studio he would say yes just to come for the casting and taping of the pilot. As sad as it is to say, there were a lot of parents who told their kids to go off with the nice man in the suit and do what he says. It was a sick sick time.

It was just past the mid 80’s when a producer came up with the idea of a tween show that not only would feature a rotating cast of extras, but would make the studio a bunch of money because they would film quickly and not hire any adults. Further, the faster they filmed, the more time they would have to molest all the kids that would be hanging around.

From the first day, it was the worst place on earth if you were a kid. The studio where the show was filmed also had several other shows being filmed there, most of which featured lots of children. Executives would drive over to Hollywood right before lunch and would stay at the studio for several hours each day.

Anyway, on this particular show, there was a special guest star. A very special guest star. Still not a tween, everyone knew who she was. Executives flocked to the studio that day to see her. She was first molested when she was 5 or 6 and had continued to be molested throughout her hit movies and also on a previous show.

One of the stars of the show who has spent her life bouncing in and out of rehab because of what she saw, and who was actually nominated for awards from the show, described the atmosphere that day.
“A bunch of f**king pigs. I had just turned 12 or 13. I was the same age as the actress coming in. Maybe a little older. We had been shooting for months and I was old news. They knew I would do what they wanted, but they always wanted someone new. This was someone new and someone they all knew. They had it set up like a peep show almost. She had finished shooting that morning and they brought her out on a stage. The stage was used most of the time for a game show that was taped there. That game show is still on today. I can’t watch it knowing what happened to her there. They brought her out and the front four rows of this theatre were filled with guys who were already rubbing themselves. The girl was wearing a bikini. The show took place around a beach just so they could make these girls wear next to nothing. They had her walk around under the lights. The lights were focused on her and she couldn’t really see out to the audience. She was squinting. It must have been blinding for her. They had her walk back and forth. Then they had her start dancing. All of these guys were doing what another star at that same studio got busted for. This went on for about 20 minutes. Then three of the guys took her to a different area of the studio.”

The actress didn’t see what happened, but about 45 minutes later, one of those three guys came running out and needed a set medic. Apparently they had inserted something inside the girl and things were bad. The medic came and the ambulance came. The parents of the girl were told some crap story. That crap story ended up killing the girl because the parents believed the executives. Two weeks later, the show finished shooting six episodes all at once and then everyone was sent on their way forever. No one wanted the kids around or any witnesses to what happened.

This is Hollyweird: Steven Spielberg to Produce ‘Voyeur’s Motel’, the account of a hotel owner who spied on his guests while they were having sex

Another Hollyweird movie that will be on my “not to see” list.

Author Gay Talese

Author Gay Talese

Background from the author of this story Gay Talese, of his book entitled, “The Voyeur’s Motel.” Excerpts from a New Yorker article Talese wrote in April 2016:

“I know a married man and father of two who bought a twenty-one-room motel near Denver many years ago in order to become its resident voyeur. With the assistance of his wife, he cut rectangular holes measuring six by fourteen inches in the ceilings of more than a dozen rooms. Then he covered the openings with louvred aluminum screens that looked like ventilation grilles but were actually observation vents that allowed him, while he knelt in the attic, to see his guests in the rooms below. He watched them for decades, while keeping an exhaustive written record of what he saw and heard. Never once, during all those years, was he caught.

Hotel owner/Peeping Tom, Gerald Foos

Hotel owner/Peeping Tom, Gerald Foos

From a handwritten note the hotel owner/Peeping Tom, Gerald Foos, had written to author Talese:

“The reason for purchasing this motel was to satisfy my voyeuristic tendencies and compelling interest in all phases of how people conduct their lives, both socially and sexually. . . . I did this purely out of my unlimited curiosity about people and not as just a deranged voyeur. My main objective in wanting to provide you with this confidential information is the belief that it could be valuable to people in general and sex researchers in particular.

Read all the background here.

From Variety: Steven Spielberg is producing a movie version of Gay Talese’s upcoming novel “The Voyeur’s Motel” for DreamWorks with Sam Mendes directing.
Mendes will produce through his Neal Street Productions company. Mendes, who directed the James Bond movies “Skyfall” and “Spectre,” has directed a trio of titles for DreamWorks — his debut on “American Beauty,” “The Road to Perdition” and “Revolutionary Road.”
DreamWorks won an auction for the rights to Talese’s novel. CAA brokered the auction.
The story centers on Colorado resident Gerald Foos, who opened a hotel so he could watch guests having sex. Foos had reached out to Talese in 1980 with the following note:
“Dear Mr. Talese: Since learning of your long awaited study of coast-to-coast sex in America, which will be included in your soon to be published book, ‘Thy Neighbor’s Wife,’ I feel I have important information that I could contribute to its contents or to contents of a future book.”
An excerpt of “The Voyeur’s Motel” ran in the April 11 issue of the New Yorker. The novel will be published July 12 by Grove Press.
CAA brokered the deal on behalf of Mendes and Talese. Mendes is also represented by attorney Melanie Cook of Ziffren Brittenham. Talese is represented for publishing by Lynn Nesbit of Janklow & Nesbit.

Hillary's fundraising visit to Hollywood would have been greeted with evil "flying monkey" signs

Hillary “What difference does it make” Clinton is scheduled to speak tonight night at a Democratic National Committee Fundraiser event at Brentwood’s Tavern restaurant in Los Angeles.
The fundraiser event — the third major Demonrat fundraising in L.A. in a month — is sponsored by Hollywood heavyweights and diehard Demonrats director Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Disney Studio chairman Alan Horn. Tickets for the event for monied Hollyweirdos, which include a reception, photo and dinner, cost $32,400 each — the maximum allowed individual contribution to a national party committee per calendar yer.
Below is the image that would have greeted the Hildebeast — that of an evil flying monkey from The Wizard of Oz.
hillary_flying_monkeys
According to Tina Daunt of The Hollywood Reporter, Oct. 17, 2014, the “flying monkey” sign is the creation of guerrilla street artist SABO.
Last Friday morning, SABO hung signs depicting Wizard of Oz flying monkeys holding “Hillary 2016” signs from traffic lights and pasted them on utility boxes near the Tavern Restaurant. In an email to Hollywood Reporter, SABO explains, “All these leftists, I’m tired of their s—.”
But SABO recounted that almost immediately, one poster near a Whole Foods grocery store was “violently” torn down.
Louisiana native SABO, the conservatives’ answer to liberal artists like Shepard Fairey, had moved to Los Angeles in 1987 to attend the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
SABO recently made headlines with his Gwyneth Paltrow “Obama Drone” poster. (See DCG’s post, “Angry neighbors slam Gwyneth Paltrow after she throws political party for Barack Obama“.)
Funny stuff: Posters put up in Paltrow's neighborhood
Some of SABO’s other works include:

  • A caricature of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi twerking, which helped launch the conservative website Breitbart California, triggered demands for an apology from a cross section of angry Demonrats.

SABO twerking Pelosi

  •  Last year, when Texas pro-abort lawmaker Wendy Davis came to L.A. to raise money, SABO lampooned her as “Abortion Barbie.”

Wendy Davis abortion Barbie

  • In addition to the flying monkey posters, SABO has been busy working on a fake Tavern website, which ridicules Hillary and the Democratic Party.
  • He also has an entire section of his website Unsavory Agents dedicated to Hillary. “It sickens me to see just about every California Republican I run across pull out the white flag in surrender to the coming coronation of Hillary Clinton,” SABO wrote on his website. “They’ve all but given up without a hint of a fight. Let this image be a reminder to them that our lady in waiting is not invincible. Obama came out of nowhere and knocked her off her perch without so much as trying.”

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, SABO said Hollywood and politics have become a focal point of his guerrilla art, particularly with his “Drone” campaign, which also features Samuel L. Jackson, Alec Baldwin and Jon Stewart.
“I think the drone campaign encapsulates how I feel about Hollywood,” he says. “You know, it’s kind of like a double or triple entendre in that, I mean, if you listen to one of these celebrities go on, they’re like, droning on and on and on about how they love Obama or the left or the Democrats, or they drone on about how much Republicans suck, and in a way, much the way an unmanned aircraft flies through the air, these people fly through the airwaves.”
Alas, a mere day after SABO had put up the Hillary flying monkey signs, all of the posters and banners were either removed or painted over.
Because in America today, and especially in Demonrat-worshipping Hollywood, you just can’t have those satiric but entirely accurate flying monkey signs offend Queen Hillary, free speech be damned.

Pres. Lucifer's super PAC will fund the Hildebeast for president 2016

We’re at the beginning of 2014, a mid-term elections year, and two years away from the 2016 presidential elections.
Time to put on our battle armor, because the Devil never sleeps.
~Eowyn
POS and Broomhilda
Philip Rucker and Matea Gold report for the Washington Post, Aug. 29, 2013:

Priorities USA Action, the pro-Obama super PAC that led attacks against Republican Mitt Romney, is quietly positioning itself to become the main independent group funding a media campaign for Hillary Rodham Clinton in the 2016 presidential race, according to Democrats familiar with the plans.Strategists and donors to Priorities are in discussions about how best to help Clinton should she decide to run again for president, three Democrats familiar with the talks said.
The emergence of Priorities as a pro-Clinton ally introduces a heavyweight player into the constellation of super PACs and other independent groups already focused on the 2016 race. The move also shows how the political forces that helped reelect President Obama are increasingly gathering around Clinton and could make it more difficult for Vice President Biden or other Democratic hopefuls to compete for the nomination if she runs.
The people familiar with the plans said Priorities is developing a different mission than Ready for Hillary, a group started this year by ardent Clinton supporters. While Ready for Hillary is focused on grass-roots organizing, Priorities is planning to become what one of the Democrats called “the big money vehicle” that would produce and air expensive television advertisements.
The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plans for Priorities have not been finalized. Priorities strategist Paul Begala, a former Clinton White House adviser, declined to comment on behalf of the super PAC.
One of the Democrats said Priorities is not planning to become active in the race until Clinton “gives a definite nod that she’s going to run.” Conservative super PACs, such as the Stop Hillary PAC, have already jumped into the fray with attacks on the former U.S. senator and secretary of state.
Unlike federal candidates, super PACs can accept unlimited contributions as long as they do not coordinate their strategy directly with candidates or political parties.

_______

Note: Anyone who believes that has a shoe-sized IQ.

_______

Priorities, started by two former Obama White House aides (see my comment above), was widely regarded as one of the most effective independent groups in the 2012 presidential race. After a sluggish fundraising start, the super PAC ended up raising nearly $80 million — pouring it into a relentless barrage of swing-state television commercials that portrayed Romney as an elitist corporate raider.
Although Priorities spent far less than the pro-Romney super PAC, Restore Our Future, the group’s early and consistent focus on Romney’s record at Bain Capital put a negative cast on his business experience that proved hard for the GOP nominee to shake.
“They got off to a slow start, but they had a really strong finish, and ultimately they received a lot of credit for the negative messaging that was most effective against Romney,” said Phil Singer, a Democratic strategist who ran the war room for Clinton’s 2008 White House bid. “Priorities has been able to establish credibility.”
Refashioning itself as a pro-Clinton super PAC would be a natural fit for Priorities, which already has strong ties to both Bill and Hillary Clinton. Sean Sweeney, who was the top aide to then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, helped launch Priorities with former White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton and continues to steer it. Sweeney worked as a legislative assistant for then-Sen. Hillary Clinton, and people in Clinton’s orbit described Sweeney as a trusted loyalist.
Begala, who remains an adviser to Priorities, was a strategist on Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign and served as a political counselor in his White House. Harold Ickes, the super PAC’s president, has been a top adviser to both Clintons, while Geoff Garin, who was the group’s pollster and strategic adviser last year, was a top strategist on Clinton’s 2008 campaign.

_______

Note: But we are to believe Begala, Sweeney, Ickes, Garin, et al., don’t “coordinate directly with” the Clintons or with the DNC. Puleeze!

______

Priorities also has relationships with some of the top Democratic givers, including DreamWorks Animation chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, one of its founding donors, who gave the super PAC $3 million. Katzenberg remains committed to working with the group, according to a person familiar with his plans.

___________

Note: DreamWorks is a Hollywood movie studio founded by Katzenberg, director Steven Spielberg, and David Geffen.

___________

Hedge fund manager James H. Simons, who contributed $5 million to Priorities and hosted a fundraiser for the group, is a longtime Clinton backer. Chicago media baron Fred Eychaner, who gave $4.5 million to Priorities, is one of the biggest supporters of the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, having given the nonprofit organization more than $25 million.
Texas trial lawyers Steve and Amber Mostyn, who donated more than $3 million to Priorities, are actively supporting Clinton’s potential 2016 candidacy and are founding members of Ready for Hillary’s national finance council.
And Qualcomm founder Irwin M. Jacobs, who gave $2 million to Priorities last year, is an early Clinton backer. Jacobs and his wife, Joan, each gave the maximum $25,000 to Ready for Hillary.
Some fundraisers who bundled donations for Clinton’s 2008 White House bid, such as entertainment executive Haim Saban and producer Steven Spielberg, were also big donors to Priorities in 2012.
Since last year’s election, Priorities has been quiet about its plans. The super PAC made a few donations this spring, including $250,000 to the pro-Democratic Senate Majority PAC, which was used by the group in its campaign against Republican Gabriel Gomez in the Massachusetts special Senate election, according to Senate Majority PAC spokesman Ty Matsdorf.
Priorities also gave $100,000 to Emily’s List, a group that works to elect Democratic women who support abortion rights, and has launched a “Madam President” campaign to lay the groundwork for Clinton.
As of the end of June, Priorities still had nearly $3.4 million in the bank left over from the 2012 cycle and no debt.
Priorities would play a different role from that of Ready for Hillary, which has stressed its focus on grass-roots organizing and has capped individual donations at $25,000. With a strong social media presence, its profile has risen rapidly, amassing more than 700,000 supporters on Facebook.
Several longtime Clinton aides are supporting Ready for Hillary; the group is being advised by Ickes and former Clinton White House political director Craig Smith, among others.
It remains unclear whether the super PACs would work together. Ready for Hillary officials declined to comment.
A Democrat familiar with Priorities’ plans said there is “a lot of chaos right now” among the party’s operative class to get in place to help a possible Clinton campaign.
“It’s like a bunch of kids under the hoop trying to get the ball, and everybody’s jockeying for position and nobody’s shot the ball yet,” the person said.
