Billionaire Baby Killer

buffett

The following story is from Fox News. Say it ain’t so, Warren.

(Here’s an excellent previous post by Dr. Eowyn on the same subject: https://fellowshipoftheminds.com/2014/03/31/warren-buffet-gives-millions-for-abortions/)

May 13, 2014, marks one year since Philadelphia abortion Dr. Kermit Gosnell was convicted of first-degree murder “in the deaths of three babies who were delivered alive and then killed with scissors at his grimy, ‘house of horrors’ clinic,” according to the Associated Press. Gosnell instantly became the face of abortion in the prolife community.

But there’s another, more recognizable face pushing abortion in the U.S. – liberal billionaire Warren Buffett. The so-called “Oracle of Omaha” has donated more than $1.2 billion to abortion organizations from 2001 to 2012.

That’s equal to the cost of roughly 2.7 million first-trimester abortions – more than twice the number of abortions that occur in an entire year in the United States. Unlike Gosnell, however, everything Buffett has done has been entirely legal. But Buffett does share something else in common with the abortionist. Both their stories have been largely unreported.

Imagine the equivalent of the lives of 2.7 million children snuffed out to serve the whims of the third richest man in the world. Most people would say that’s a story, most likely several.

Oh no, supporters will cry. Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other similar groups do more than just abortions. And Buffett does more than fund the abortion industry. But that is the core of his agenda, just as it is theirs.

Buffett’s own charity, The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, is named after his first wife who was an abortion supporter. Its domestic operation is led by pro-abortion activist Tracy Weitz, Ph.D., MPA. Weitz has worked at Planned Parenthood, The Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health and once defined abortion as “a moral action undertaken by moral agents.”

None of that is obvious from the charity’s website. It includes information on college scholarships and the “Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award.” Neither that award, for “Outstanding Omaha Public School Teachers (K –12),” nor the scholarships even hint at the darker direction of the massive charity.

The site itself seems deliberately insular. Copyrights on the pages read “2008” and the charity makes it clear: “The Buffett Foundation responds to questions about College Scholarships and the Alice Buffett Outstanding Teacher Award only. We will not respond to any other inquiries.”

No wonder. They wouldn’t want to damage Warren Buffett’s incredible media profile by telling the nearly half of America that is prolife how he spends some of his billions. Lord knows the American media would never do that.

Since 2001, there has only been one tangential mention of Buffett’s support for abortion on the broadcast TV network morning and evening news shows. It wasn’t even really about Buffett. It was the NBC “Nightly News” obituary for his wife and it included her support for Planned Parenthood. That’s out of at least 545 appearances or mentions of the Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO.

Nowhere did the media explain how Buffett has given $289,811,421 to Planned Parenthood since 2001. Buffett was never mentioned as a top donor when Live Action embarrassed Planned Parenthood with two videos of staffers assisting a Live Action actor with a possible sex selection abortion.

That wasn’t the only embarrassment for the abortion provider. In early 2011, Live Action’s Lila Rose trained investigators to pose as a pimp and a prostitute running a sex ring composed of 14- and 15-year-olds. Planned Parenthood workers were quite willing to help provide underage abortions.

No mention of Buffett’s billions then either.

Instead we get grandfatherly Buffett, tax-hiking Buffett, investor Buffett. As a reliable liberal businessman, journalists turn to him as a source for almost any commentary.

It’s easy to understand. If you give $1,000 to a ballot initiative to defend traditional marriage, that’s controversial. If you give $1.25 billion to promote abortion, journalists, who are wildly pro-abortion, don’t dare see any controversy.

But now the information is out there. Watch as the supposedly “neutral” news media does its best to hide it.

Victory! Planned Parenthood Defunded In Kansas After Dropping Legal Challenge

baby2

Operation Rescue: Planned Parenthood quietly filed a stipulation in a Kansas District Court to dismiss it’s legal challenge of a 2011 state law that reallocated Title X Family Planning funds to community groups that do not participate in abortion. This move allows the law to take effect, stripping Planned Parenthood of hundreds of thousands of tax dollars each year.

Planned Parenthood gave up its fight after a Federal Appeals Court issued a ruling in March that reversed the August 2011 ruling of Judge Thomas Marten that forced Kansas to continue to pour money into Planned Parenthood’s coffers while the case was being litigated.

“This is a huge victory that can serve as encouragement to other states that it is possible to defund Planned Parenthood,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, who has long advocated for stripping abortion providers of public tax dollars. “Polls show that the overwhelming majority of Americans do not want their tax dollars being spent to prop up Planned Parenthood.”

Currently ten states have passed laws to defund Planned Parenthood, but some of those are tied up in court. Kansas is among the first states that have been freed to actually pull the funding.

Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri claimed that the money did not go to abortion services but was being mainly used to keep open two offices in Wichita and Hays that did not provide abortions (they provide abortion referral services). Those two locations now face closure.

“The truth is that two centers in Hays and Wichita were little more than abortion referral centers that funneled abortion patients to Planned Parenthood in Overland Park on a regular basis – at taxpayer expense,” said Newman. “There are abundant medical services available for women in Hays and Wichita so that the closure of those Planned Parenthood offices will have no effect on the availability of legitimate health care for women in those communities.”

The 2011 law was well crafted and did not mention Planned Parenthood or abortion. It allowed the state to reprioritize how Title X funding was distributed in Kansas so that the money was instead going to community clinics not involved with abortion.

“We take seriously our duty to defend Kansas law against legal challenges,” Attorney General Derek Schmidt told the Associated Press. “This law was successfully defended.”

While Operation Rescue applauds Attorney General’s defense of the law stripping Planned Parenthood of Title X funds, it has been frustrated by his apathy toward defending a 2011 law that provided safety standards for abortion clinics. Currently Kansas abortion clinics are completely unaccountable and are never inspected.

Operation Rescue has criticized Schmidt for failing to aggressively defend that law, which requires abortion clinics to be licensed, and places clinic oversight under the auspices of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. That law is being challenged in state court by a father/daughter team of abortionists, Herbert Hodes and Tracy Nauser, who operate an abortion clinic in Overland Park.

“There has been absolutely no action in the clinic licensing case since August 2012. Right now, women are being subjected to substandard abortion practices in Kansas because the law that would have, for the first time, provided for abortion clinic oversight, inspections and minimum safety regulations has sat in limbo,” said Newman. “Inaction of that case is placing women in danger every day.”

Newman further stated, “We know that most abortion clinics provide shoddy services and don’t want to be subject to any kind legitimate medical standards because they know they can’t comply. The only way they can stay open is by cutting corners on women’s safety and with the aid of tax dollars. Clinic licensing and safety standards, coupled with the defunding of the abortion industry, could spell the end of the abortion cartel in America. Kansas has the laws in place to close at least three – and possibly all four abortion clinics that now operate in that state. But without a defense of the law and enforcement, those laws might as well not exist.”

Operation Rescue launched a petition to Gov. Sam Brownback, an ardent pro-life supporter, asking him to instruct the Attorney General’s office to immediately begin defending the 2011 clinic licensing law. The public, including those outside Kansas, are encouraged to sign the petition so that women can be protected by common-sense safety standards that currently do not exist.

NYC’s tanning salons inspected more regularly than abortion clinics

richards

NY Post: The state Health Department is failing to inspect many of New York’s abortion clinics — with some facilities escaping scrutiny for more than a decade, bombshell documents obtained by The Post reveal.

Health inspectors regulate 25 diagnostic and treatment clinics and surgery centers that provide abortion services — though pro-choice advocates say there are 225 abortion service providers in New York state.

Eight of the 25 clinics were never inspected over the 2000-12 span, five were inspected just once, and eight were inspected only twice or three times — meaning once every four or six years.

A total of just 45 inspections were conducted at all 25 facilities during the 12-year period.

By comparison, city eateries are inspected every year and graded, while a new law requires tanning salons to undergo inspections at least once every other year.

Meanwhile, state officials — citing prior threats and violence against abortion providers — refused to identify the names and locations of the clinics it did inspect.

Health officials acknowledged the dearth of inspections, in response to a Freedom of Information lawsuit filed by Chiaroscuro Foundation, a conservative think tank that works to reduce abortions.

Chiaroscuro’s executive director, Greg Pfundstein, sought the information following a scandal in Philadelphia, where abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell was convicted of three counts of murder for cutting delivered babies’ spines with scissors and 21 counts of performing late-term abortions and other medical violations.

Gosnell’s clinic hadn’t been checked for 15 years before inspectors raided his facility in an unrelated prescription investigation and stumbled upon a house of horrors.

In New York City, 73,815 pregnancies were aborted in 2012. There were over 130,000 abortions statewide.

New York has one of the highest abortion rates in the country. More oversight is needed. Abortion clinics are as much a public concern as tanning salons. There should be regular inspections of all licensed abortion clinics,” Pfundstein said. “Right now, New York is only inspecting a fraction of abortion providers, and only very rarely. It’s hard to know which facilities are safe.”

In response to the legal request, the state Health Department noted it inspects only a limited number of abortion providers. And the facilities it does inspect are checked infrequently, according to the data it provided.

“Some facilities are not required to have ‘abortion services’ in their operating certificates in order to perform abortions,” Health Department records-access official Elizabeth Sullivan wrote in a letter, explaining why other abortion providers are not inspected.

“The Department does not otherwise maintain a list of every Article 28 facility that performs abortions.”

She said the agency only took legal action against one abortion clinic over 12 years. It provided the plaintiff the court papers but redacted the names, citing safety concerns.

The Health Department declined further comment.

Warren Buffet gives $millions for abortions

Don’t be fooled by his “aw-shucks I’m-just-a-regular-guy” folksy image.

Behind the smiling mask of Warren Buffet is a rabid pro-abort who funnels TENS OF MILLIONS of dollars into killing the unborn each year.

Warren BuffetBetsy Woodruff writes for The National Review, March 5, 2014, that documents from Buffet’s charitable organization and abortion-providing groups show that millions of dollars from the fortune of legendary investor Warren Buffett are going to pay for abortions.

Buffet, whose preternatural investing success has made him the fourth richest person in the world, is often described as folksy. But he’s also a longtime population-control buff, and his foundation pours tens of millions of dollars into abortion-funding work every year. In 2011, his foundation gave more than $115 million to pro-choice groups, with a large portion of that going to groups that fund abortions rather than merely doing education or advocacy.

National Review Online previously reported on the growing presence of charities that help women pay for abortions. Groups like the Lilith Fund have drawn increasing national attention, thanks in part to the efforts of pro-choice celebrities like Zach Galifianakis and Sarah Silverman. Buffett is not widely known as an abortion advocate, but his contributions dwarf those of better-known members of the pro-choice movement.

Here’s how: The Buffett Foundation — renamed the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (STBF) in 2004 after Buffett’s wife’s death — exists as a medium for the investor’s charitable giving.

But David Callahan writes for Inside Philanthropy that Buffett’s STBF foundation is remarkably opaque — “a case study in non-transparency.” Although STBF ranked number five in total giving in 2012 of $367.1 million, which put it well ahead of such brand name foundations as Robert Wood Johnson, Kellogg, OSF, Mellon, and Packard, STBF’s website focuses only on education giving while omitting huge key funding areas.  If you try calling the foundation, you get a message saying that nobody is there and that they don’t accept proposals, have funding guidelines, or publish an annual report.

Despite the opacity, it’s clear the foundation pours millions into pro-choice organizations, with a special focus on funding for abortions. In addition to funding general women’s health organizations and some political groups, Buffett gives generously to organizations that use their funds specifically to help women pay for abortions. For example:

  • STBF gave more than $21 million in 2010 to the National Abortion Federation (NAF) Hotline Fund, one of America’s more prominent national abortion funds. That organization’s 990 in 2012 (the latest year accessible) says its mission is “to ensure that women have the information and resources they need to access quality abortion care.” In 2012, the NAF Hotline’s annual revenue was a little more than $26 million, per GuideStar, which means almost all of its annual revenue came from Buffett’s foundation.
  • The Buffett Foundation’s 990 for 2012 wasn’t available. But in 2011, it gave or pledged more than $40 million to Planned Parenthood, which provides abortions as part of its range of services.
  • STBF also gave more than $1 million to the Abortion Access Project and many other pro-abortion groups.
  • In 2011, Buffett also gave $750,000 to the National Network of Abortion Funds, which supports state and local abortion funds.
  • Buffett’s foundation has also helped organizations seeking to increase abortion access overseas, including:
    • $16 million to DKT International, which works to expand abortion access in India, Ethiopia, Mozambique, and other countries. DKT’s website says it “provided 1.2 million safe abortion doses” in 2013.
    • More than $9.4 million from 2009 to 2011 to Gynuity Health Projects, which works to expand abortion access in developing countries. Its website discusses its efforts to lower the cost of medical abortions and “to help support introduction of this promising new technology [mifepristone, an abortifacient].”

The above is a tiny slice of the support Buffett directs to organizations seeking to make abortion cheaper, more accessible, and less politically toxic. Buffett is consistently mum on abortion issues; he doesn’t put his mouth where his money is. But a look at his charitable giving suggests the pro-abortion movement has no better ally than the folksy billionaire.

And as further evidence, a pro-abort woman named Tracy Weitz recently joined the Buffet Foundation.

Tracy Weitz (r) with her "husband" Marj Plumb

California Catholic Daily reports that Tracy Weitz was just hired by the Buffett Foundation in Omaha, Nebraska. Weitz, while at the Bixby Global Reproductive Health Center at the University of  California, San Francisco, had orchestrated the medical research project which ended in legalizing non-physician abortions in California.

How Do I Steal From Thee? Let Me Count the Ways

After being laid off in 2012, I recently returned to work. Not having received a paycheck in two years, I had forgotten how much money the government steals from us. Comparing my gross pay to my net pay is like taking a shot to the solar plexus. I’m astounded that most Americans aren’t upset about the taxes they pay and remain blissfully ignorant of the fact that until 1913, there was no income tax.

I work hard for my money — very hard. Here’s a partial list of where MY money goes, without my consent:

Welfare recipients. About 20% actually deserve to be on welfare. The other 80% would rather stay home, watch television, and take a government check than work.

Food stamp recipients. Again, about 20% really need assistance. The others are stuffing their fat faces with money earned by hard-working Americans.

Subsidizing the so-called “arts.” You know what I’m talking about. The kind of pretentious art that no one wants or is willing to pay money for, but government supports (with my money). Have you been to a modern play lately? How about a modern opera or art gallery? Is modern sculpture your cup of tea? Well, I’m here to tell you, they all stink. Not the classics, but today’s art. Without government money, they would all dry up and blow away. And maybe then the real artists would appear. The purpose of art is to honor God and elevate men and women. What passes for art today, including popular culture, aspires to the exact opposite: dishonoring God and degrading men and women. And it’s our money that pays for it.

Subsidizing multi-million dollar sports stadiums. In case you haven’t noticed, professional football and the Olympics have turned into spectacles of satanic worship, with professional baseball and basketball not far behind. No, I’m not kidding. Our tax dollars fund the expensive, privately owned stadiums, where grown men (and some grown women) pay obscene ticket prices and allow themselves to be both surveilled by drones, as well as searched and fondled by other grown men (and some grown women), for the privilege of watching still other grown men play with a ball. Meanwhile, the billionaire owners laugh all the way to the bank.

Financing Planned Parenthood. This hijacking of our money is perhaps the most evil of all. Everyone involved with Planned Parenthood is going straight to hell, and the government is stealing our money to pay for it. Keep in mind that when the government uses our money to pay for things such as abortion, we become partially responsible. If that appalls you as much as it does me, then take a vow to only support politicians who are 100% pro-life.

Paying for Michelle Obama’s expensive dresses and Hawaiian vacations.

Financing Leftist propaganda disguised as education. The education our children our currently receiving, in which they are being taught by current Common Core curriculum that Abraham Lincoln was a liberal and a Democrat, that the Nazis were justified in much of what they did, that white Americans are racist and either got over their racism by voting for aka Obama, or held to their racism by not voting for him, is all being paid for out of our pockets. You work hard for your money, do you want it being spent teaching children revisionist history?

Paying interest to the Federal Reserve for the money they print and then lend to our country. Most readers of this site know that the Federal Reserve is a private banking cartel that has usurped the power to print money (in direct violation of the Constitution). It’s the greatest crime of this and the last century, and the source of almost every problem we face today, yet only one in every ten thousand Americans is aware of this fact, and the ones who don’t know, don’t care.

Paying the bloated salaries and pensions of union contracts.

Financing ludicrous “scientific” studies on such subjects as “Why lesbians are fat.”

Social security and disability. A massive Ponzi scheme some of us may never see. I’ve met at least ten able-bodied Americans in the last year, all fully capable of holding down a job, and every one of them collecting disability or social security.

I’d like to write more, but I can’t. I have to go to work to pay for all the scams listed above.

Feel free to add your own items to this list.

Insider Tells of Planned Parenthood Horrors

Former Planned Parenthood worker: ‘It was a money-grubbing, evil, very sad, sad place to work’ Edit (0)
BY KIRSTEN ANDERSEN
Fri Feb 14, 2014 16:42 EST

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, February 14, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A former Planned Parenthood worker has opened up to a diocesan newspaper in a gripping tell-all interview, saying she was shocked at the horrors she witnessed during the two years she worked in Indiana’s largest abortion facility.

Marianne Anderson is a nurse who assisted Planned Parenthood abortionists by partially sedating women who paid extra for that luxury. She told The Criterion newspaper that she saw many women pressured into abortions they did not want, including minor girls.

(Read the complete interview with Anderson here)

“One young girl came in with her mom,” Anderson told the paper. “She was about 16. Her mom had made the appointment. That’s not supposed to be how it works. It’s supposed to only be the patient who makes the appointment. I checked her in, and she thought she was there for a prenatal checkup. The mom was pushing it. She blindsided her own daughter.”

Another time, said Anderson, “This guy brought in a Korean girl. I had no doubt in my mind this girl was a sex slave. This guy would not leave her side. They could barely communicate. He wanted to make all the arrangements. During the ultrasound, she told one of the nurses that there were lots of girls in the house, and that the man hits them. She never came back for the abortion. I always wondered what happened to her. One of my co-workers said, ‘You’re better off to just let it go.’”

When women cried during the abortion procedure, Anderson said, abortionist Michael King would shame them. “These girls would start crying on the table, and Dr. King would say, ‘Now you chose to be here. Sit still. I don’t have time for this.’”

“One doctor, when he was in the POC [products of conception] room, would talk to the aborted baby while looking for all the parts. ‘Come on, little arm, I know you’re here! Now you stop hiding from me!’ It just made me sick to my stomach,” Anderson said. “The sound the suction machine made when it turned on still haunts me.”

Anderson told The Criterion she started working at the facility because she believed that as long as women were having abortions, they should be safe about it.

But Anderson quickly abandoned her illusions of safety once she began work at Planned Parenthood. “I started feeling uneasy working there when people came from national in New York City to teach us the conscious sedation process,” Anderson told the paper. “It was disgusting. These two ladies had this chant they would do: ‘Abortion all the time!’ I thought, ‘I’ve got to get out of here.’ That was about six to eight months after I started.”

Click “like” if you are PRO-LIFE!

Anderson said the overall experience of working for Planned Parenthood was “absolutely miserable.”

“It was a money-grubbing, evil, very sad, sad place to work,” she said. “I was always getting in trouble for talking too long to the girls, asking if they were sure they wanted to do this.”

“You have to have so many [abortions] a month to stay open,” Anderson said. “In our meetings they’d tell us, ‘If abortions are down, you could get sent home early and not get as many hours.’”

Anderson finally escaped her job at Planned Parenthood with assistance from Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director who runs the charity And Then There Were None, which is dedicated to helping abortion clinic workers leave the industry. After reading Johnson’s book Unplanned, Anderson reached out to Johnson via social media and told her she wanted to get out.

Johnson put her in touch with Eileen Hartman, a local pro-life leader who immediately jumped into action, helping Anderson polish her resume and setting up job interviews with local hospitals and doctors.

Anderson was fired by Planned Parenthood in July 2012, but was immediately hired by Community North Hospital, where she is now a nurse. “I was mad because I wanted to quit,” Anderson said. But she added, “I love my job now. I work with wonderful, Christian people. I just love it.”

To help her deal with the remorse she feels over the two years she spent helping abortionists take babies’ lives, Anderson attended a retreat put on by Johnson’s group, and now prays daily for the babies whose abortions she was part of.

It took Anderson a while to decide to go public with her story, but now that she has, she says she is ready to return to Planned Parenthood. This time, she’ll be a sidewalk counselor, praying for abortion-minded women and encouraging them to choose life.

Correction 02/14/14: This article originally stated that Marianne Anderson is a Roman Catholic. This is incorrect. LifeSiteNews.com apologizes for the error.

Abortion and Planned Parenthood: the Scourge of Heaven

For the past eighteen months, I have been studying Marian apparitions from around the world:

Fatima
Medjugorje
Ecuador
Bayside, New York
Necedah, Wisconsin
Long Grove, Illinois
Belleville, Illinois
Guadalupe
Garabandal

…and many more.

The evidence of a Heavenly presence at these places is overwhelming and includes photographs of celestial beings, miracles of healing and conversion, eye-witness testimony, seers in ecstasy, and Fatima’s famous “Miracle of the Sun” which took place before 70,000 witnesses.

At each and every one of these locations, Mary, who is known in the Church as the Queen of Heaven, has steadfastly spoken of Heaven’s condemnation of abortion. Here’s a small portion of what the seers have reported her saying:

Bayside, New York: “A state of life exists now, far worse than it was in the time of Herod! The Holy Innocents were slaughtered, but your numbers now, of children being slaughtered are counted in the millions! Damnation is the eventual judgement upon any man or woman who takes any measure in the slaughter of the unborn!”

Ecuador: “Another great victory of satan is abortion, which is an attempt against the great blessing of the Father, life.”

Necedah, Wisconsin: “I came here most of all because of the little children… Millions of little unborn have found death in the most hideous and cruel way… the wailing and the death of millions of unborn are on all citizens’ consciences if they have one or not… It is not spoken of in the churches from the pulpits. They fear to offend their parishioners… Remember this, it is a life from the moment of conception. No medical man who is honest, can tell you otherwise. No Clergyman who is truthful, can tell you otherwise… ‘THOU SHALT NOT KILL.’ It is a mortal sin with the reward of eternal Hellfire. My children, STOP this terrible killing. STOP IT, or the chastisement will be so severe you will envy the dead.”

Long Grove, Illinois: “To all those who condone abortion: hear me now, for I tell you of your future. If you do not turn back now, mankind seeks a terrible chastisement from his God. Abortion is strictly murder. Mankind is murdering the Holy Innocents of today”

Belleville, Illinois: “My dear children, you cry and lament over loved ones lost in wars of this century, and fail to see how many of my tiniest dear children are killed in their mothers’ wombs every day, more than all of these past wars put together. I beseech you to pray, pray, pray that this great sin of abortion against the laws of God and man must come to an end. This is truly the work of satan.”

Fatima: Lucia said Mary spoke to her of the sin of babies being killed in the womb. At the time, Lucia didn’t understand what Mary was talking about.

I think the evidence is clear that abortion is a one-way ticket to eternal damnation in hell, not only for the mother who chooses to abort a human life, but also for the father, the doctor, the nurses, the abortion clinic’s administrative staff, organizations that support abortion (Planned Parenthood and others), politicians and judges who enact laws that legalize and support abortion, voters who cast their ballots for these same politicians and judges, media that supports abortion (books, movies, television, newspapers, websites, etc.), the people who either work for or own stock in those media companies, etc.

That’s a pretty long list, totaling hundreds of millions of people in our country alone. Across the world, it runs into the billions. Perhaps that’s why at Bayside, New York, Mary also said: “Souls are falling into hell faster than snowflakes that cascaded upon you in the worst part of your winters.”

Don’t kid yourself by thinking that you can be a good Christian, or a good Jew, or a good anything, who pretends to love and honor God, yet still support people like aka Obama, Hilary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and others who ardently support abortion.

If that statement angers you, perhaps God is trying to tell you something. Remember, the truth hurts. If you feel remorse over supporting abortion in the past, God will forgive you. All you have to do is ask.

Eternal damnation is a long, long time.

By refusing to support any individual or organization that promotes abortion, by refusing to spend your money at any business that is not 100% pro-life, you remove yourself from this most terrible of sins.

Why not pass this on to someone you know who supports abortion? You may lose a friend, but end up saving a soul.

Nuns a Threat to Obamacare

LittleSistersofthePoorLittle Sisters of the Poor

The following is by Cortney O’Brien who writes for Townhall:

MSNBC Calls Catholic Nuns Who Don’t Want to be Forced to Fund Birth Control “a Threat”

by Cortney O’Brien | Washington, DC | LifeNews.com | 1/8/14 10:38 AM
Monday’s NOW with Alex Wagner on MSNBC started with some video footage of nuns singing songs to the elderly poor. But, judging by the discussion that ensued between Wagner and her two guests, you’d think the Little Sisters of the Poor were more intimidating than the Sopranos.
“The administration must now deal with this latest threat to the nation’s health care law: these ladies, the Little Sister of the Poor.”
That was MSNBC’s Wagner, who also actually said: “It seems this administration has bent over backwards to ensure that people can exercise their religion” and, “Women’s lives are being saved by provisions in the Affordable Care Act.”
The host invited Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and former Governor Howard Dean (D-VT) on her show to discuss Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s decision to delay Obamacare’s contraception mandate for the religious organization the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Denver-based group of Catholic nuns who run nursing homes for the poor. Wagner, Richards and Dean didn’t seem to be impressed by these nuns’ admirable work and made it seem like the Obama administration was the victim in this case.

Obama embraces Planned Parenthood's Cecile RichardsCecile Richards embraces Pres. Lucifer in 2012 (AP photo)

While Richards avoided attacking the nuns directly and instead tried to insist Obamacare would do wonders for young women, Dean didn’t seem to have any problem calling out the Sisters.
“First of all, this is an argument about whether the Sisters of the Poor have the right to force their views of religion on all their employees. They’re trying to make this an argument about whether they’re gonna sign a paper or not. If the court should decide they don’t have to sign the paper they essentially get to force their religion on all their employees.”
Question: Isn’t it safe to say people who willingly applied to work for the Little Sisters of the Poor are more likely than not to hold the same religious beliefs as their employer?
One only has to look at The Little Sisters of the Poor mission statement to understand their values:
Our vision is to contribute to the Culture of Life by nurturing communities where each person is valued, the solidarity of the human family and the wisdom of age are celebrated, and the compassionate love of Christ is shared with all.
Regardless of these lovely ladies’ compassionate efforts, Dean insisted the nuns were in the wrong. He also resurrected the annoying argument that Republicans are waging a ‘war on women,’ noting, however, that women are recognizing how religious employers are forcing their views on them.
“The average woman frames it that way herself. She doesn’t has to be told what the Republicans and Fox News and all these people are doing to them. They know what they’re doing to them.”
Planned Parenthood seemed to be okay with MSNBC’s misleading attack on nuns and Republicans, tweeting their approval of the segment.
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America is an organization with about 800 clinic locations around the country and has a budget of $1 billion – much of which goes toward abortion. Sisters of the Poor is an organization dedicated to the sanctity of life. Who’s really the bigger threat here?
Here are Little Sisters of the Poor’s website, donation page, and prayer requests page.

Member of "Board of Advocates for Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest" Says Abortion Is ‘A Sacred Gift,’ Claims Christianity Is Dying

Valerie-Tarico-300x300
Christian News: In recent opinion columns, a Planned Parenthood board member has claimed that abortion is ‘a sacred gift,’ and that nonbelievers have ‘reasons to celebrate’ since Christianity is ‘in decline.’
Valerie Tarico is a member of Planned Parenthood’s Board of Advocates, which—according to the board’s website—is a 400-member body of individuals “united by their personal integrity and commitment to the Planned Parenthood mission.” Among other responsibilities, Board of Advocates members “writ[e] articles, blog posts, or statements in support of Planned Parenthood.”
Tarico, whose writing has appeared in outlets such as Salon, AlterNet, and the Huffington Post, routinely writes about her opposition to Christian beliefs and values. In an opinion piece last June, she wrote, “it’s tempting to think that Christian conservatives have reached some new pinnacle of hating women and sexuality.”
In a Huffington Post article last January, Tarico claimed that abortion is “a sacred gift.” She also encouraged people to “honor women who decide to terminate pregnancies” and “honor doctors who provide abortion services,” since they are “doing God’s work.”

“An abortion when needed is a blessing,” Tarico posited. “It is a gift, a grace, a mercy, a cause for gratitude, a new lease on life. Being able to choose when and whether to bring a child into the world enables us and our children to flourish.”

In one of Tarico’s most recent articles, initially published on AlterNet in late December, she lists ten reasons why she believes that Christianity is “in decline.” “Things are looking bright for those who would like to see humanity more grounded in science and reason,” Tarico asserts.

The facts Tarico cites to support her claim vary significantly, but they include the secularization of millenials, the increasing outspokenness of skeptics, and the society’s departure from Biblical values.

Today’s young women and men are making the Bible writers look as if they were members of a tribal, Iron Age culture in which women were property like livestock and children—to be traded, sold and won in battle,” Tarico alleges.
Tarico also claims that Christian denominations are declining in influence due to their “cruelty, bigotry and ignorance.”
In response to Tarico’s assertions, Matt Barber, a popular author and freelance columnist, wrote in a column for WND that such claims from nonbelievers are nothing new.
“When the atheist gives voice to his or her God-denial,” Barber writes, “it provides those in Truth a small glimpse into the same dark spirit—old as Adam—that prompted the psalmist to observe: ‘The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good’ (Psalm 14:1).”
Barber points out that true freedom cannot be found in human reasoning or atheism, but only in Jesus Christ—as explained in Galatians 5:1.
“Without Christ, there is no freedom,” Barber states. “There is only death.”
“When God-deniers like Ms. Tarico dig in their heels,” he continues, “a pitiable paradox occurs. While they think they’ve achieved intellectual enlightenment and freedom, they have, instead, been played for the fool. They have become slaves to the flesh, and playthings to the enemy.”
“Ultimately,” Barber concludes, “there is no autonomy. In the end we each belong to one Master or the other. Ms. Tarico, the end is just the beginning. And eternity is a very long time.

This is sacred: human life!

This is sacred: human life!

UPDATE:
From Valerie Tarico:
” I am not a board member of Planned Parenthood or a member of their 400 person Board of Advocates and have no formal relationship past or present with their organization.  I do belong to a small, local group of Planned Parenthood supporters called the “board of advocates for Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest” which is our Seattle affiliate.
To further clarify, a board of advocates is not “the board” meaning the governing board, which is a requirement for all corporations and nonprofits. The group I am a part of is a more informal group of local supporters who meet a few times per year and have no authority regarding the functioning of Planned Parenthood. I am not familiar with the national Board of Advocates or how it functions or with their governing board.”

Girl Scouts launch drive to halt membership drop

girlscouts

KATU: With an assist from Michelle Obama, the Girl Scouts of the USA is launching an unorthodox recruitment campaign this week aimed at reversing a long-running decline in participation by girls and adult volunteers.

Instead of placing ads on TV, in newspapers and on billboards, the decentralized campaign will unfold in neighborhood initiatives and on social media as local Girl Scout councils directly target elementary-school girls — even kindergartners — with promises of adventuresome fun.

The first lady is pitching in with a video in which she lauds the contributions of the Girl Scouts and urges adults to find the time to help out.

“In order to bring the fun to more girls, Girl Scouts need you to volunteer,” she says. “You can show girls that anything is possible. You can inspire them to dream bigger and go further than they ever imagined.”

Obama, like other first ladies since 1917, serves as the Girl Scouts’ honorary national president.

The upbeat campaign launch follows a trying stretch for the Girl Scouts, who celebrated their centennial in 2012 but have confronted multiple difficulties this year. These include a deficit-strapped pension plan, rifts over the direction of Girl Scout programming and revenue shortfalls that prompted the national headquarters to trim about one-fourth of its staff through buyouts and layoffs.

Overshadowing all the problems is the steady decline in membership — a trend also buffeting other national youth organizations as children turn to other after-school and weekend diversions. The Girl Scouts today have about 2.2 million youth members, down from nearly 2.9 million in 2003. Over the same span, the ranks of adult volunteers have dwindled from 986,000 to 890,000.

Anna Maria Chavez, the Girl Scouts’ CEO, acknowledged that fiscal challenges linger, but she depicted the recruitment campaign as a chance for the national office and the 112 local councils to re-energize in pursuit of a common goal. “This is the time to double down for the Girl Scouts and help us grow,” she said.

The campaign’s catchphrase is “I Can’t Wait To…”, and its bright-colored components offer multiple phrases to complete the sentence, such as “Create my own masterpiece” and “Make everybody say, ‘Whoa!”

“This is the first time we’re speaking in that fun, fresh language — speaking in a girl’s voice,” said Sarah Gormley, a GSUSA marketing executive. Her hope is that buzz about the Girl Scouts spreads girl-to-girl and parent-to-parent by word of mouth.

The campaign was designed by national and local Girl Scout leaders based on research conducted by InterBrand, a consultancy firm. “We learned from the research that the heart of what makes girls want to join, and adults to volunteer, is the opportunity for new experiences,” Gormley said. “These are exciting whether you’re a 5-year-old or a 40-year-old.”

One of the local leaders who helped design the campaign was Katherine Lambert, executive vice president of the Charlotte, N.C.-based Hornets’ Nest Council. “There were some tremendous light-bulb moments,” Lambert said. “It wasn’t that we didn’t offer what girls needed. It was that we weren’t talking about the fun.”

Bucking the national trend, Lambert’s council has been able to boost its youth membership by 33 percent over the past 10 years to 16,500 girls. But she said the council shares a problem with many of its counterparts nationwide: waiting lists of girls who can’t be signed up because of too few adult volunteers.

“Our volunteers need help, They need reinforcements,” said Chavez, noting the demographic changes taking place among America’s parents — fewer stay-at-home moms, more single parents and working mothers with challenging daily schedules. “We need to recruit and train them in a way that works for them,” Chavez said.

While the local Girl Scout councils are trying to woo more volunteers, the national headquarters in New York is adjusting to major personnel changes. Over the summer, 45 of the head office’s 326 employees accepted a voluntary resignation package, and in August about 40 more employees were laid off.

At the senior executive level, there’s a new chief financial officer, a new general counsel and the GSUSA’s first-ever chief customer officer — a former Weight Watchers vice president who’s assigned to improve communication and collaboration with the local councils.

Meanwhile, the national pension plan, with a deficit of more than $300 million, remains a cause of concern.

One council, the Nashville-based Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, has stopped making contributions to the plan and is suing to get out of it, contending that local councils had been saddled with a liability they had not agreed to fund. The council’s lawyer, James Bristol, says other councils also are considering withholding pension contributions.

The GSUSA, which declines to publicly discuss the pension dispute, has filed a motion for the lawsuit to be dismissed.

It is also asking Congress to pass legislation that would provide relief by stretching out the timetable for local councils to pay into the pension plan. Without such relief, councils could face a 40 percent increase in pension expenses next year.

The Girls Scouts, in an effort to reach out to kindergartners and elementary children, should re-think their policies on two accounts: their ties to Planned Parenthood and their allowing transgender children to participate in their organization.

The Girl Scouts’ involvement in the May, 2013 Women Deliver Conference, an international event that included safe and legal abortion” among its overarching themes has been documented. It has also been documented about their role in the planning and facilitating of the December, 2012 Bali Global Youth Forum and the outcome declaration, which demands youth access to abortion.

Girl Scouts Resources web page has a link to the National Center for Education Statistics which, in turn, has a link to Planned Parenthood. It touts it as a resource “which is to ensure access to sexuality education, reproductive health care, family planning services, and information for all who want them.” (Like kindergartners and elementary school children need this information.)

In 2011, a Colorado-based Girl Scouts troop’s decided to admit a 7-year-old transgender child. They stated, “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.”

Good luck with the campaign to get more girls involved now that Michelle is on board. Maybe the Girl Scouts should re-think their left-leaning policies to attract more members and volunteers.
