Rachel Dolezal faces felony charges for welfare fraud

Rachel Dolezal

A woman who lies about her race caught in more lies. Shocker, not.

From Yahoo (via HuffPo): Rachel Dolezal, the former president of NAACP’s Spokane, Washington, chapter who was outed as a white woman pretending to be black , is facing felony charges of welfare fraud, perjury and false verification for public assistance.

NBC News affiliate KHQ-TV was the first to report on the charges made this week against Dolezal. KREM 2, a CBS news affiliate, later confirmed the charges with the Spokane County prosecutor’s office. If convicted, Dolezal could face up to 15 years in prison.

Dolezal came to national attention in 2015 after her family revealed she’d been presenting herself as a black woman for years, even though they said she was born white. At the time, Dolezal was president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP and worked as a part-time instructor of Africana studies at Eastern Washington University.

The revelation forced Dolezal to resign from the NAACP. She also stopped teaching at EWU. In 2016, Dolezal, a mother of three, officially changed her name to Nkechi Diallo, though she still uses her former name on her art website and social media pages.

Washington state’s Department of Social and Health Services began investigating Dolezal in March 2017 after learning that Dolezal, who was receiving public assistance from the department, had published a book.

The investigator found that Dolezal’s book publisher typically offers contracts that include payments of $10,000 to $20,000 ― but a review of her records revealed that she’d only reported an income of $300 per month in the form of gifts from friends, according to court documents published by KHQ-TV.

The Spokane County prosecutor’s office accused Dolezal of being overpaid a total of $8,847 for food assistance and child care assistance from the state’s Department of Social and Health Services between Aug. 1, 2015, and Nov. 30, 2017.

During that period, according to the investigation, an estimated $83,924.96 had been deposited into Dolezal’s bank account in monthly installments.

Despite the controversy surrounding her racial fabrication, Dolezal still identifies as a black woman. She wrote about her experience in an autobiography, In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World, and was featured in a Netflix documentary this year.

Critics have taken particular exception to Dolezal’s widespread media exposure in light of the ongoing racial injustices that black Americans experience day-today.

“We’ve probably all been guilty of sharing Dolezal’s story, or at least parts of it, at some point ― but we must recognize that it is distracting, counterproductive and unnecessary,” Lilly Workneh, then the senior editor of HuffPost Black Voices, wrote in March 2017. “Let’s return our focus to more pressing matters affecting marginalized, overlooked and misrepresented communities of color.”

From CBS Los Angeles: The once-lauded leader of efforts to bring healthier meals to more than 600,000 Los Angeles school children was charged Tuesday with embezzlement, perjury and misuse of public funds.

David Binkle, 55, former food services director for the Los Angeles Unified School District, pleaded not guilty in L.A. Superior Court Tuesday to 15 felony counts and was released on $220,000 bail.

Binkle funneled $65,000 from LAUSD to a chefs’ club he ran and to his own bank account between 2010 and 2014, prosecutors said.

After joining LAUSD in January 2008, Binkle was suspended in Dec. 2014 , accused at the time of mismanagement and carrying a conflict of interest. He continued to draw on his $152, 000 annual salary while being investigated.

He resigned in Aug. 2015 following a scathing audit by the Los Angeles County Office of Inspector General that found over a period of four fiscal years, the district spent $40.6 million more on food — but served fewer meals.

Prosecutors accused Binkle of awarding contracts to organizations he was connected to and failing to disclose income from a private consulting business. He was also charged with forgery for putting someone else’s signature on an application to be a district vendor.

Binkle, who helped reduce fat, sugar and salt in school lunches and touted his successes at a White House event with former first lady Michelle Obama.

At the time of his suspension, he told the Los Angeles Times that he was “deeply disheartened, frustrated and baffled” by his removal.

“I have done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide since my actions were approved and encouraged from senior district officials, general counsel or the ethics office,” he wrote in an email. “I am confident the truth and facts will show the allegations are unsubstantiated.”

Some Women Never Learn

She was 22; he was 49.

She was single; he was married.

He was the most powerful man in the world; she was a lowly but flirtatious  intern.

She fellated him in the office, while he diddled her with a cigar. But none of that was really sex, because one has to define what “is” is.

When the scandal broke open, whatever reputation she had was ruined, her name became a synonym for fellatio. He went on national TV, his voice the usual honeyed sincerity and his face red with faux outrage, to vehemently deny he ever “had sex with that woman.” Then, still denying, he committed perjury.

15 years later, still married, he is now the distinguished eminence grise, his sordid affair forgotten by his countrymen. But she is single and still pines for him, still believing that he too still pines for her.

Some women are just that way. It’s called stupidity.

H/t beloved fellow Tina.

‘I’m still in love with Bill’: Friends say why Monica Lewinsky has never got married or had kids

By Daily Mail Reporter – March 10, 2011

The scandal almost destroyed his career and left his presidency permanently tainted. But 15 years on, Bill Clinton’s former intern Monica Lewinsky has not got married or had children because she is reportedly still in love with him and ‘always will be’.

Miss Lewinsky, 37, has run a successful business, hosted a reality television show and moved overseas – but has never found love, according to friends.

‘Monica still hasn’t got over Bill and would take him back in a second,’ a friend said. ‘She told me: “There will never be another man in my life that could make me as happy as he did”,’ the friend told the National Enquirer magazine. ‘Monica still carries a torch for him. She’s dated some guys, off and on, since the whole White House mess. But she’s never been able to get Bill out of her heart’.

Miss Lewinsky was aged 22 in 1995 when she began working in the White House and had an affair with President Clinton, which he famously denied at first.

She now lives in Los Angeles, California, and does not have regular employment, reported the National Enquirer.

She has previously designed handbags and been a pitch woman for Jenny Craig. She also participated in a book, written with Andrew Morton, called Monica’s Story, for which she earned a reported $500,000. In 2006 she earned a master’s degree in social psychology from the London School of Economics, having shut her handbag line and temporarily moved to England.

Mr Clinton was impeached by Republicans in 1998, who tried to throw him out of office. But his wife Hilary said in 2007 that their marriage was ‘worth the investment’.

Miss Lewinsky said her relationship with the president involved her performing sexual acts on him – but not sexual intercourse. She famously kept a blue dress which she claimed held DNA evidence of their affair.

After allegations began to emerge, President Clinton wagged his finger and sternly told a national television audience he did not have sex with ‘that woman’.  But seven months later in 1998 he admitted he lied, wanting to protect himself and his family from embarrassment. Mr. Clinton admitted he had an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with her.

When Clinton’s memoir My Life came out in 2004, Miss Lewinsky spoke of her upset at its contents to the Daily Mail, saying rather than being a physical fling, it was a mutual relationship. ‘He could have made it right with the book, but he hasn’t. He is a revisionist of history. He has lied. I really didn’t expect him to go into detail about our relationship’, she added. ‘But if he had and he’d done it honestly, I wouldn’t have minded.’

She believed he made it sound like the dalliance came only at her initiative and was purely physical. ‘He talked about it as though I had laid it all out there for the taking. I was the buffet and he just couldn’t resist the dessert.’

Clinton wrote that his affair with Lewinsky revealed ‘the darkest part of my inner life’ and led to his temporary banishment from the White House bedroom. He said on CBS’ 60 Minutes that he became involved with Lewinsky ‘for the worst possible reason. Just because I could.’

But according to Lewinsky at the time, ‘That’s not how it was. This was a mutual relationship, mutual on all levels, right from the way it started and all the way through.’
