Chelsea Handler says she needed therapy before interviewing conservatives for her white privilege documentary

Therapy isn’t going to cure this creature.

From Daily Mail: Chelsea Handler claimed she needed ‘therapy’ before interviewing conservatives for her documentary on white privilege.

The comedian-turned-political activist made a Netflix documentary exploring the notion of white privilege called ‘Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea’.

As part of the show, Handler interviewed four white conservative women. During an appearance on American talk show The View, Handler quipped that she needed therapy before the conversations even took place.

Show co-host Sunny Hostin mentioned that during the documentary Handler had asked the four women what ‘white privilege’ meant to them, before detailing how one woman had argued that black people have privilege too and are able to get into college based on their skin colour.

Another of the women said in the interview that it was time to move on from a ‘minuscule’ issue.

The documentary has received mixed reviews among critics with Vice describing how the comic ‘stumbles through a well-meaning but misguided reckoning with her place in the world’.

Meanwhile conservative news site Daily Wire writes: ‘For both the “Woke” and sleeping viewers out there, comedian-turned-full-time political activist Chelsea Handler hits all the wrong notes in her Netflix documentary exploring her so-called “white privilege.”‘

The View co-host Hostin said she had found it interesting that Handler had spoken to the four conservative women about their polarizing opinions on the concept of white people’s privilege in society. ‘I thought it was really interesting to just hear people say that because they felt that way,’ she said.

Hostin then asked Handler what her reaction was to the interview. ‘I had to do a lot of therapy to even have these conversations with people, because I have a temper and I’m reactive,’ Handler replied.

‘And when somebody’s annoying I want to tell them that they’re annoying or that they’re stupid. But my exercise in this film was to be more quiet and to stop inserting myself.’

She went on to say: ‘In a way you could say those women hung themselves out to dry, from our perspective, but from theirs they really believe that. And it’s important for us to all understand what everyone’s really thinking and believing, and to have the conversation.

Co-host Joy Behar joined the debate, asserting that the women in the documentary needed to learn the history of slavery and Jim Crow ‘before they open their mouths’.

‘Hello, Privilege. It’s Me, Chelsea’ was released on Netflix on September 13, 2019. Directed by Alex Stapleton, it strives to explore the societal privilege that benefits white people over non-white people.

Singer Selena Gomez debuts Netflix special, “Living Undocumented”

FYI Selena: There is already a pathway to naturalization.

From Yahoo: Selena Gomez shared a powerful trailer on Tuesday for the new documentary series she is executive producing for Netflix that follows eight families who are at risk of being deported.

The series, called Living Undocumented, is set to premiere on the streaming platform on October 2 and will offer a poignant look at the lives of undocumented immigrants illegal aliens living in America during a time of increasing racial tension.

Gomez, 27, and co-executive producers Aaron Saidman and Eli Holzman want to highlight the real-life fears and hardships these families experience every day in the hopes it will humanize them for viewers.

“I am so humbled to be a part of Netflix’s documentary series Living Undocumented,” Gomez, 27, wrote in a post on her Instagram on Tuesday.

“The immigration issue is more complex than one administration, one law or the story you hear about on the news,” she continued. “These are real people in your community, your neighbors, your friends—they are all part of the country we call home. I can’t wait for you guys to see this and hope it impacts you like it impacted me.”

Saidman and Holzman previously produced the groundbreaking docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which took a deep dive into the Church of Scientology and their alleged abuses.

“Living Undocumented is designed to illuminate one of the most important issues of our time,” Saidman said in a comment provided by Netflix.

“But rather than discussing this issue with only statistics and policy debates, we wanted viewers to hear directly from the immigrants themselves, in their own words, with all the power and emotion that these stories reflect,” Saidman added.

Gomez — who also produced the series 13 Reasons Why with Netflix — added that she believes the word “immigrant” has been viewed negatively over the past few years.

“I chose to produce this series, Living Undocumented, because over the past few years, the word immigrant has seemingly become a negative word,” she said. “My hope is that the series can shed light on what it’s like to live in this country as an undocumented immigrant firsthand, from the courageous people who have chosen to share their stories.”

Netflix joins (sort of) fight against Georgia’s abortion law

Never had Netflix…never will.

From Hollywood Reporter: Netflix says it will fight a controversial abortion law in Georgia and may “rethink” its operations there should the law go into effect.

The company’s statement on the law is a rare public stance from one of the industry’s heavyweights; major studios have thus far remained silent on the legislation, which would ban abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat — which can happen as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement.

“It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court. Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there — while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.

Thanks to generous state tax credits, Georgia has become a hub of film and TV production and employs some 90,000 people in the state. Since Gov. Brian Kemp signed the fetal-heartbeat bill May 7, at least two productions — Amazon series The Power from Reed Morano and Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s Lionsgate feature Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar — have said they will relocate their productions. Producers including David Simon, Christine Vachon, Mark Duplass, Neal Dodson and Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson have also said they will steer clear of the state for future productions.

Others, including J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele (HBO’s Lovecraft Country) and Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (Netflix film Hillbilly Elegy), have said they will continue filming in Georgia but make donations to groups fighting the law.

“We stand with Stacey Abrams and the hardworking people of Georgia and will donate 100 percent of our respective episodic fees for this season to two organizations leading the charge against this draconian law: the ACLU of Georgia and Fair Fight Georgia,” said J.J. Abrams. “We encourage those who are able to funnel any and all resources to these organizations.”

Hollyweird libtard Ricky Gervais promoting assisted suicide for his Netflix series: “I would take a euthanasia tablet”

From Daily Mail: He has notoriously joked about the most controversial of subjects – but Ricky Gervais is deadly serious about how he sees his own life ending.

Speaking exclusively to Event magazine today, the creator of The Office and Extras reveals: ‘I am in favour of assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia. I know that I’d want it. I hope when I’m ready to go you can just go to Boots and get something. I hope we get more advanced and more liberal, that there’s not all this hate for people who want to do it, all this going, ‘How dare you?’ That’s madness.’

His comments come ahead of After Life, his upcoming Netflix series about death and grief, which is said to be as black as comedy can be.

Gervais, 57, reveals his latest TV character, a depressed journalist who dabbles with hard drugs and thoughts of suicide after his wife’s death from cancer, is his darkest by far and made him face up to his own mortality.

Ricky Gervais smokes heroin in his new Netflix show. That’s hugely controversial, even for him – and as if to prove a point, he takes the hardest of hard drugs on screen not once but twice. ‘Well, it would be a misrepresentation not to say that heroin is very moreish!’ says the comedian with his familiar, wolfish grin. ‘That’s a line from one of my stand-ups: ‘Hobnobs, Pringles, once you pop you can’t stop. Same as heroin.’

Funny, but the creator of The Office and Extras has made a highly successful second career out of winding people up and causing outrage, whether in his stand-up shows or roasting Hollywood stars at the Golden Globes. Now he’s pushing the boundaries in a different way with After Life, a six-part series about death and grief that’s as black as comedy can be – his character even pays for someone to commit suicide in this show. ‘What’s good is that people can’t accuse me of anything, because they know it’s a character.’

Gervais plays Tony, a journalist whose wife Lisa has just died from cancer. Tony can’t kill himself because the dog needs feeding, so he expresses all his anger and grief by saying and doing whatever he wants, no matter who gets hurt. But the portrayal of heroin is still surprisingly positive, as Tony gets comfort from drifting away, into the arms of a vision of his wife. Can Gervais not see why some people might be shocked?

‘There’s absolutely no comment on heroin per se in those scenes,’ he insists, shaking his head. ‘He’s a man in free fall, who wouldn’t have indulged in the underworld when he was married and happy with his wife, but suddenly he’s hanging about with a sex worker and a drug addict because he doesn’t care about himself any more. If you talk to a hundred heroin addicts, I bet you’d find that 90 of them first tried it after a really bad experience. The thing to take from this is that he tries something he would never have tried, and it doesn’t turn out well. He’s not the right man for heroin. Not that anyone is.’

Still, Tony does appear to walk away from the infamously addictive drug after taking it twice, which seems unlikely. Has the real Ricky Gervais ever done the same?

‘I’ve not indulged in that. I believe the injecting of heroin is the addictive bit, as opposed to smoking a little bit in a joint. I make the guy say that’s no big deal [as opposed to injecting]. I don’t want people to think you can take heroin a couple of times and it’s fine. So is there still a conscience? Yes. And is there still a reality and a bit of research here? Yes.’

Netflix raises rates as they see millions of new subscribers

Why are people supporting Netflix? I’m guessing the “newbs” who sign up are either unaware of the CRAP Netflix supports or they just don’t care. I wonder if new subscribers are aware of the following:

Garbage: “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” underage orgy scene on Netflix
Netflix ‘Insatiable’ TV series mocks Christianity with young girls pleading for sex with Jesus and Holy Spirit
Netflix twists ‘Anne of Green Gables’ into a queer soirée with 5 LGBT characters
Demonic: Netflix airs ‘Salute to Abortion’; Presbyterian priest blesses PP abortion clinic
Netflix at it again: Now under fire for film critics say contains child pornography

I’ve never had Netflix and never will.

Those who wish to support them and their airing of lewd and bigoted shows, have at it. Serves you right to pay more for their service.

From SF Gate: This article, Netflix raised prices because you all are signing up like crazy, originally appeared on CNET.com.

If you want to blame anyone for Netflix raising prices, look to all the newbs who are signing up in droves.

The streaming video service reported that more people signed up in the last three months of 2018 than any other quarter ever, and it predicted even more new members in the first quarter of 2019. The company added 8.84 million new paid members, according to its end-of-year financial report Thursday. That’s better than the 7.6 million it’d predicted in October.

Netflix tends to end every year on an upswing, as people on holiday breaks spend extra time streaming and those who received new gadgets as gifts start setting them up by adding services like Netflix. But this time, Netflix had already issued a couple of particularly positive signals about how business was faring.

Last month, the company said Bird Box, its post-apocalyptic thriller starring Sandra Bullock, was watched by 45 million accounts in the first seven days it was available, the best viewership for one of its original movies yet. And Tuesday, Netflix announced price hikes. The prospect of a higher monthly bill wasn’t welcome news for consumers, but investors reacted with glee, and analysts interpreted it as Netflix flexing its muscles in the middle of a hot streak.

Netflix doubled down on viewership disclosures Thursday. Bird Box has now been watched by more than 80 million member households in four weeks, the company said, adding that the movie was getting “high repeat viewing.” Looking ahead, Netflix expects You — a thriller series about a bookish stalker, which struggled to find an audience when it aired on Lifetime — to surpass 40 million households in its first four weeks, and it predicts Sex Education, a British series that Netflix is distributing globally, to reach more than 40 million in the first four weeks too.

The eternal caveat about Netflix numbers like these? They’re not independently verified. Nielsen offers some ratings for Netflix programs, which it figures with its own system of measurement that leaves out any viewing on mobile devices and doesn’t count people watching outside the US. Nielsen’s initial Bird Box numbers supported the general case that the movie was widely popular, though.

And Netflix’s definition of a view carries different meaning for a movie versus a show. Netflix counts a movie as viewed once an account watches 70 percent of the total runtime, including credits. But for shows, Netflix credits the title with a view if an account gets through 70 percent of the total runtime of a single episode.

Garbage: “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” underage orgy scene on Netflix

From Fox News: The popular Netflix series “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is marketed to young teenage girls, tied to a family friendly comic franchise and billed as a modern reboot of the harmless “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” so when viewers were bombarded with a steamy orgy scene featuring underage characters, some parents and critics were shocked.

Kiernan Shipka, who is best known for her role as Sally Draper on the AMC hit “Mad Men,” portrays the 16-year-old witch in the young adult series, but the intimate scene in “Sabrina” is about as provocative as anything infamous womanizer Don Draper ever participated in on screen.

The orgy scene – set to Fiona Apple’s “Criminal” – appears in the seventh episode of the series and features half-a-dozen scantily clad teens in Sabrina’s house. When the 16-year-old namesake character is hesitant to join in, she’s mocked for “killing the mood” and told to either “get in, or get out.”

The raunchy scene sent viewers scrambling to social media slamming it as “uncomfortable” and inappropriate.

Family Research Council’s senior fellow Peter Sprigg told Fox News that “Sabrina” is not suitable for its target audience.

“Taking once-wholesome comic book characters and turning them into sinister and hyper-sexualized TV characters is a troubling trend in itself. The dark, occultish elements in ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ provide reason enough for parents to keep their children — including teens — far away from this show,” Sprigg said. “The show has gone over the top in depicting an actual orgy on screen, and if they think having the teen participants keep their underwear on makes it all right, the writers and producers need to think again. This content is not appropriate for anyone, but especially not for the teen audience it targets.”

Netflix and Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s other series, CW’s “Riverdale,” also features a similarly uncomfortable striptease hot tub scene with characters who are underage.Sabrina” is billed as a companion series to the CW hit, which has been criticized for similar provocative content. “Riverdale” is also based on an Archie comic, but both of Aguirre-Sacasa’s shows have ditched the wholesome family values of the original intellectual property.

A spokesperson for Aguirre-Sacasa did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” and “Riverdale” are hardly the first two shows to sexualize teens, as The CW’s “Gossip Girl,” Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” and a variety of MTV programs are recent examples. Most cases involve adult-age actors playing teens in order to get away with erotic storylines — with “Sabrina” being no exception. However, some media gurus feel things are getting worse in the modern era of prestige TV.

“It’s ill-advised for Netflix to go down this road given the climate. With no advertisers to answer to, it seems they’ll take the controversy and press it will generate over any kind of subscriber backlash,” The Hill’s media reporter Joe Concha told Fox News.

Media Research Center Vice president Dan Gainor criticized Netflix as “woke TV,” pointing to “Sabrina” as an example of why parents must proceed with caution before allowing children access to the streaming giant.

This depraved show promotes teen sex and witchcraft. Parents need to know that’s what their kids might be watching when they tune in Netflix,” Gainor told Fox News.

Commercial artist Troy Riser was among the outspoken critics on social media, sending numerous tweets condemning Netflix for the “orgy scene” and even declaring that “traditional kid-friendly brands such as the Archie Comics universe should not be used to market softcore porn.” Riser’s children are adults now, but when reached by Fox News he explained that he’s concerned for today’s youth.

“Packaging adult entertainment in a traditionally family-friendly brand is pretty disturbing stuff,” Riser told Fox News. “I’m thinking more about children in general — young girls in particular — who would gravitate to a show about ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch,’ a show many parents would naturally think would be kid-safe given their own memories of Archie comics and the G-rated Melissa Joan Hart show several years ago.”

Inappropriate: 31-year-old rapper gives “boy advice” to 14-year-old actress

Minor Brown (l) “comfortable” with the elder Drake (r)

Drake is a 31-year-old rapper who apparently texts boy advice to a 14-year-old English actress. Wonder what the 14-year-old girl’s father thinks of this…

From Daily Mail: Millie Bobby Brown says she and Drake often text one another that they miss each other.

The Stranger Things star, 14, told Access at the Emmys Monday that she and the rapper, 31, communicate by text about a number of topics.

‘We just texted each other the other day and he was like, “I miss you so much,” and I was like “I miss you more,”‘ she said, adding, ‘He’s great.’

Brown said that the In My Feelings artist gives her advice with how to deal with boys: ‘About boys, he helps me.’

The Spain-born actress called the Toronto native a ‘great friend and a great role model,’ adding, ‘I love him; I met him in Australia and he’s honestly so fantastic.’

The Netflix star said that she hopes to catch him in concert later this fall when his tour arrives in Atlanta.

She opened up to W magazine earlier this summer about her relationship with the rapper, as a picture they took together while both working in Australia went viral last November.

She told the magazine in July that since their first meeting, they now talk all the time.  ‘He invited me to his concert,’ she said. ‘And now we talk all the time. I ask his advice.

While the Stranger Things actress is comfortable with Drake, there’s other male stars that still leave her starstruck.

Discussing whether she’s changed since she first found fame, she said, ‘I don’t think I’ve changed. I’m not thinking, Oh, I know everything now. I still get nervous. I still get anxious.

‘Although, even back then at the BAFTA tea, when I met Justin Timberlake, I swear I could have fainted.’

And Millie could ‘barely speak’ when she came face-to-face with her childhood idol, Zac Efron.

Asked her favorite toy as a child, she said: ‘A microphone that had High School Musical on it. I could sing with Zac Efron!

‘I watched High School Musical every single day. When I met Zac Efron, I could barely speak.’

Suck it Hollyweird: Ratings for 2018 Emmy Awards hit all-time low

From Fox News: Hollywood may have laughed when Emmys host Michael Che said the only white people who thank Jesus are “Republicans and ex-crackheads,” but Tinseltown’s latest middle finger to Middle America fell flat in flyover country, and may have contributed to the telecast’s all-time low viewership.

Co-host Michael Che left many viewers of the 70th Annual Emmy Awards upset during the opening monologue with his fellow “Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost, explaining that his mother would not be watching the show on Monday night.

“She says she doesn’t like watching white award shows because you guys don’t thank Jesus enough,” Che said. “That’s true. The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads.

The joke didn’t sit well with some viewers, who took to Twitter to complain. Not only that, the show’s ratings dropped 10 percent from last year’s already-dismal numbers, setting an all-time low, according to TheWrap.

While many viewers may have changed the channel after the opening monologue, jabs at average Americans were far from over and the Jesus gag became a running theme throughout the evening.

Conservative strategist Chris Barron told Fox News that “large swaths of the American public just want to be entertained” but instead were turned into “unwilling participants” in a political rally disguised as an awards show.

“Whether it’s the NFL or the Emmys, people desperately want a break from politics. It’s amazing to me at just how tone deaf Hollywood is,” Barron said.

“Most Republicans have stopped watching awards shows or know that even if they can stomach it, the White House and their core values will be attacked. I kept thinking last night, thank goodness for a few actors like Chris Pratt, who buck the trend and show a healthy respect and love for Christianity in acceptance speeches,” Fox Nation host Britt McHenry said. “Reverence for God is something to cherish and uphold, not ridicule.”

Jokes about religious Republicans weren’t the only jabs at Middle America.

Prior to the official event, actress Regina King spoke with E! about a cryptic Instagram post in which she asked to “stop making stupid people famous,” which many have interpreted as a dig at President Trump. The Red Carpet also featured actress Jennifer Lewis wearing a Nike sweatshirt “to applaud them for supporting Colin Kaepernick,” who has polarized the nation by starting the trend of kneeling during the national anthem prior to NFL games.

Jost discussed a handful of shows that were canceled and picked up by other networks before joking that Roseanne Barr’s show was “picked up by white nationalists.” He also implied that some Americans don’t think Nazis are bad and fantasized about President Obama upsetting Trump with a dig at the former reality TV star who is famously obsessed with ratings.

“The Obamas now even have their own production deal at Netflix,” Jost said. “My dream is that the only thing they produce is their own version of ‘The Apprentice.’ And it gets way higher ratings.”

Meanwhile, the Emmys decided to honor late Senator John McCain during its in memoriam. Nobody would complain about an American hero being remembered in front of a national audience, but Media Research Center contributing writer Karen Townsend questioned the motive behind the decision.

One can’t help but wonder if this was done as a subtle dig at President Trump. After all, it was only 10 years ago that all of Hollywood hated McCain when he ran for president against their beloved Obama,” she wrote.

Later in the show, award winner Ryan Murphy called America a “country that lets hatred grow unfettered and unchecked.” Anti-Trump comedian Samantha Bee – best known for vile comments about first daughter Ivanka Trump – joked that the news should “recast the lead.”

It’s National Suicide Prevention Week: Check out the “crave death” meme Lena Dunham posted

Lena Dunham: Inspiring young women to “not settle”

National Suicide Prevention Week began Sept. 9 and goes through Sept. 15. If you know of anyone who needs suicide prevention resources, click here.

The Hillary-loving feminist Lena Dunham started the “Lenny Letter” website described as “feminism, style, health & politics – unfiltered.”

As a feminist, Lena doesn’t believe one should shame another woman in public. She was mad when Jezebel criticized her Vogue photo shoot and called what they said, “bullsh*t.”

As a feminist, Lena is fine with her body and doesn’t like to be Photoshopped (although she frequently is).

As a feminist, Lena believes the way that women are spoken to on social media is shocking and comparable to the abuse of Guantanamo prisoners.

As a feminist, Lena is an “advocate” for young women everywhere. She is a strong woman who “empowers” other women.

Or so she would have you believe…

Lena posted the above meme on her Instagram account on Sept. 9, just in time to kick off the week. Her caption: “Do not settle for second best this week!!!”

Stuff like this MAKES ME MAD. Suicide is not a joke. I had a cousin who committed suicide and know of a couple other people who attempted suicide.

Lena obviously missed the memo that the majority of college students say they’re stressed, with many reporting suicidal thoughts.

Netflix has a show called “13 Reasons Whythat revolves around teenagers committing suicide and self harm. It’s been criticized for glamorizing suicide and several families have blamed the series for inspiring their children to kill themselves.

In 2016, the New York Times reported that suicides hit a 30-year high, with an alarming increase among girls ages 10 to 14.

Memes like this one that Lena posted do not inspire women. This type of “empowering” feminism is bad form and a horrible example coming from a “role model” of today’s feminist movement.

Shame on you, Lena.
