This is the 211th world-famous FOTM Caption Contest!
Here’s the video:
About the video: In July 2019, a group of cadets of the Belgian Defence Forces “marched” in a parade. See my post, “Sunday Funny: March of the Belgian Cadets“.
Belgium is a founding member of both the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military alliance of which the United States is also a member. In fact, NATO’s headquarters are in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. That means America is obliged by treaty to defend Belgium. No wonder the Belgian Defense Forces are so lackadaisical.
Belgium is one of the NATO members (the others are Canada, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain) who are not spending their “fair share” of 2% of their GDP on defense. In 2016, Belgium’s share was less than 1%.
The United States continues to spend the most on defense — 3.61% of our GDP ($650 billion) in 2015, more than double the amount spent by all the other 27 NATO countries, even though their combined GDP tops that of the U.S. (Source)
