Texas Board of Education drops Hillary Clinton from history classes

LOL.

From NY Post: Call it a case of the blind deleting the blind.

Texas educators have booted Hillary Clinton, Helen Keller and other historical figures from state social studies classes, which require students to learn about “significant social leaders in the United States.”

Clinton being the first woman to run for president and Keller’s accomplishments as a deaf and blind person apparently don’t qualify.

“Military and first responders are best represented,” the state’s Board of Education’s advisory committee recommended prior to a vote on the change Friday.

High schoolers in the Lone Star state had studied Clinton under a “citizenship” section of its curriculum, which focuses on trailblazers such as Andrew Carnegie, Thurgood Marshall and Sandra Day O’Connor, according to the Dallas Morning News.

And third-graders learned about Keller, a prolific author and political activist who earned a college degree despite her handicap.

But the board’s advisory committee determined she “does not best represent the concept of citizenship.”

At least two committee members said the group concluded that there were too many historical figures for Texas kids to study, so they graded candidates based whether they triggered a “watershed change” and if they were from an “underrepresented group,” the paper reported.

Clinton scored a 5 out of 21 points. Keller scored a 7 out of 20.

“There were hundreds of people,” said Misty Matthews, a committee member and teacher, about the volume of historical figures kids are required to learn. “Our task was to simplify… we tried to make it as objective as possible.”

There board made no specific comments about Hillary Clinton. Students are still required to learn about Bill Clinton.

Removing the former first lady and secretary of state will save teachers 30 minutes of instruction time, and axing Keller will save 40 minutes, the advisory committee estimated, according to the paper.

While Clinton and Keller were scrapped, evangelist and Baptist pastor Billy Graham – who was also recommended for removal by the committee – was spared. So were references to Moses, and his “influence” on America’s founding documents.

The board wants students to continue explaining how the “Arab rejection of the State of Israel has led to ongoing conflict” in the Middle East, a requirement the committee recommending eliminating.

The board will cast its final vote on the curriculum re-do in November.

Sunday Devotional: The Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:1-3, 7-8, 12-17

In those days, God delivered all these commandments:
“I, the Lord am your God,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
You shall not have other gods besides me.

“You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain.
For the Lord will not leave unpunished
the one who takes his name in vain.

“Remember to keep holy the sabbath day.
Honor your father and your mother,
that you may have a long life in the land
which the Lord, your God, is giving you.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife,
nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass,
nor anything else that belongs to him.”

Moses and the Ten Commandments

an examination of conscience

1. I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.
Do I accord more importance to creation — to people and things? Do I idolize entertainers or politicians, idealizing and placing them on a pedestal? Am I my own god — grandiose, arrogant, and do as I will? Do I subscribe to a self-serving moral relativism– that what is right depends on the situation and on what benefits me? Do I practice humility by serving others? Do I ask for forgiveness when I have wronged another?
2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Have my words denied, devalued, or insulted God? Do I use His holy name as a profanity, or as an emotional outburst?
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord’s Day.
Do I avoid, when possible, work that impedes worship to God, joy for the Lord’s Day, and proper relaxation of mind and body? Do I look for ways to spend time with family or in service on Sunday? Do I say “Thank You” for all that He’s given me — my body, mind, work, family, friends, and for life itself?
4. Honor your father and your mother.
Do I show my parents due respect? Do I seek to maintain good communication with my parents where possible? Do I criticize them for lacking skills I think they should have? Do I blame them for my own flaws and problems? Do I honor that which they gave birth to by treating my body and mind with respect, and refraining from impairing and corrupting myself with drugs, indolence, and pornography?
5. You shall not kill.
Have I killed the body, no matter how small, of another? Have I injured another’s body, spirit and emotions with my actions and words?
6. You shall not commit adultery.
Have I stayed true to my marital vows? If unmarried, have I honored another’s marital exclusivity? Have I respected the physical and sexual dignity of others and of myself, and of the institution of marriage?
7. You shall not steal.
Have I taken or wasted the possessions, resources or time that belong to another? Have I dis-respected God’s creation by being wasteful and profligate?
8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Have I told lies or embellished stories at the expense of another?
9. You shall not covet your neighbor’s spouse.
Have I honored my spouse with my full affection and exclusive love? Have I, instead, longed for or lusted after another, including fantasy figures?
10. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.
Am I content with what I have, or do I compare myself to others, and feel envious, resentful, or entitled to what others have?

May the peace and love of Jesus Christ our Lord be with you!

A window into the veracity of the Gospel

The Transfiguration by Carl Heinrich Bloch

The Transfiguration by Carl Heinrich Bloch

And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come with power.”
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
Mark 9: 1-10

Sometimes it’s the little things for me. This is a huge moment in human history, the transfiguration of Christ, so huge that we often stick it into a little box in our minds marked, “Religion: Do Not Touch.”
So reading though it this week, the thing that grabbed me was the last verse, where the disciples were trying to figure out what “rising from the dead” meant.
They were resisting Jesus’ predictions of his death. It’s natural that, having blocked out that message, they were unable to think thru to the next thing, the resurrection. But this drags us back to the fact that these guys were NOT religious statues, but eye witnesses of the greatest moments in history. Of course they didn’t know what rising from the dead meant!
It is fragments of authenticity like this verse, that are the deciding factors in court cases. They pull the jury to a realization that they are hearing a true message.
We see the transfiguration in grandiose terms, and we should. But the things that testify to the truthfulness of the message are the fragments of human weakness, like the cluelessness of Peter, James and John.

…discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

Well, its Sunday morning, and we at the Dust household are off to church, pondering what rising from the dead meant. ~ TD 😀

What time is it boys and girls. It's screw PC time Yea!!!

A Muslim dies and finds himself before the Pearly Gates..
He is very excited, as all his life he has longed to meet the Prophet Mohammed.
Having arrived at the Gates of Heaven, he meets a man with a beard.
“Are you Mohammed?” he asks.
“No, my son. I am Peter. Mohammed is higher up.” And he points to a ladder that
rises into the clouds.
Delighted that Mohammed should be higher than Peter,
he climbs the ladder in great strides, climbs through the clouds coming to a room where he meets another bearded man
He asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”
“No, I am Moses. Mohammed is higher still.”
Exhausted, but with a heart full of joy he continues to climb the ladder and, yet again, he discovers an even larger room where he meets another man with a beard.
Full of hope, he asks again, “Are you Mohammed?”
“No, I am Jesus… You will find Mohammed higher up.”
Mohammed higher than Jesus!
The poor man can hardly contain his delight and climbs and climbs, ever higher.
Once again he reaches a larger room where he meets a man with a beard and repeats his question:
“Are you Mohammed?” he gasps as he is, by now, totally out of breath from all his climbing.
“No my son…..I am God.. But you look exhausted. Would you like a coffee?”
“Yes, please, my Lord.”
God looks behind him, claps his hands and calls out:
“Hey Mohammed, two coffees !!!!”

Sunday morning chuckles.

from Prof Wordsearch6.7
A young boy had just gotten his driving permit. He asked his father, who was a rabbi, if they could discuss his use of the family car. His father took him into his study and said, “I’ll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Talmud a little, get your hair cut and then we’ll talk about it.” After about a month, the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss his use of the car. They again went into the father’s study where the father said – “Son, I’ve been very proud of you. You have brought your grades up, you’ve studied the Talmud diligently, but you didn’t get your hair cut.” The young man waited a moment and then replied, “You know Dad, I’ve been thinking about that. You know Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair.” The rabbi said, “Yes, and everywhere they went, they walked.

from Prof Wordsearch8
A tough looking group of bikers were out riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge so they stopped. The leader, a big burly man, gets off his bike and says, “What are you doing?” “I’m going to commit suicide,” she says. While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn’t want to miss an opportunity so he asked… “Well, before you jump, why don’t you give me a kiss?” So she does… And it was a long, deep lingering kiss. After she’s finished, the biker says, “Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had. That’s a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous. Why are you committing suicide?” “My parents don’t like me dressing up like a girl……”
