Hollyweird “stars” who want our taxes to pay for Planned Parenthood abortions

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXhApAKnAkE
These libtards apparently think 1) we care about their opinions and 2) you are too stupid to figure out how to contact your senator.
Know who to boycott.
From Daily Mail: The looming vote on the controversial Senate Republicans’ health care bill has motivated Hollywood to take part in the rancorous debate.
A-listers Jennifer Lawrence, Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham, joined a plethora of 25 more celebrities including Aubrey Plaza, Padma Lakshmi, Suki Waterhouse, Elisabeth Moss, Spike Jonze, Amy Poehler and Brie Larson among many others to create a video on Friday supporting Planned Parenthood.
In the opening frame, superimposed text reads ‘these famous faces want to help you reach your representative.’
A number of celebrities follow with their names before the actual message of the video starts with superstar director of Her and Being John Malkovich Spike Jonze.
The message ‘We need you to contact your United States senator and you can do that by visiting istandwithpp.org/call’ is then carried on by several more celebrities.
After an example of how to leave a message for senators suggesting a no vote for ‘any attempt to defund Planned Parenthood,’ a more personal message is expressed.
‘This is nothing more than a blatantly political attempt to do whatever it takes to attack women’s health and rights and take health care away from the people who need it the most,’ declare another series of celebrities.
Famous activist Gloria Steinem also appears, saying ‘the right to decide our own bodily future is the most basic of all human rights.’
In a statement accompanying the release of the video, Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said: ‘We are so grateful to have the support of so many artists, many of whom have themselves relied on Planned Parenthood for health care and who understand the importance of speaking out.’
‘This support is especially important right now as the Senate is jamming through a bill that would block millions of women from getting birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood. Now is the time to speak out. One in five women in this country rely on Planned Parenthood for care. They will not stay silent as politicians vote to take away their care and their rights.’
Anticipating its universal unpopularity, Senate Republicans led by Mitch McConnell crafted the bill in secret and only released the actual text of the bill earlier this week.
The bill would end Obama’s tax penalties on people who don’t buy insurance – effectively ending the so-called individual mandate – and on larger companies that don’t offer coverage to their workers, according to AP.
It would offer less generous subsidies for people than Obama’s law but provide billions to states and insurance companies to buttress markets that in some areas have been abandoned by insurers, and has language blocking federal money Planned Parenthood.
Democrats said the measure would result in skimpier policies and higher out-of-pocket costs for many and erode gains made under Obama that saw roughly 20 million additional Americans gain coverage.

Mitch McConnell fast-tracks authorization to give Obama unlimited war powers

Yesterday, during a visit to ISIS-friendly Turkey, VPOS Joe Biden said that if a political solution can’t be reached, the U.S. is prepared to use military force to “take out” ISIS or Islamic State (IS) and so end the civil war in Syria. The Obama administration has been carrying out “precision air strikes” on Islamic State (IS), but to no avail. (Source: Bloomberg)
Biden could make that promise because warmongers in Congress are paving the way to give Obama (and future presidents) unlimited war powers with no expiration date.
In 1973, to prevent “future Vietnams,” Congress passed the War Powers Act over the veto of then-Pres. Richard Nixon, to restrain the president’s ability to commit U.S. forces overseas by requiring the executive branch to first consult with and report to Congress. Although the Act was generally resisted or ignored by subsequent presidents, who regarded it as an unconstitutional usurpation of their executive authority, the Act nevertheless acted as a constraint.
In 2014, Obama did exactly that by declaring war against the Islamic State — a move considered by many legal scholars and even many members of Congress as illegal and unconstitutional. As Mike Krieger recounts for Liberty Blitzkrieg

President Obama’s declaration of war against the terrorist group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria marks a decisive break in the American constitutional tradition. Nothing attempted by his predecessor, George W. Bush, remotely compares in imperial hubris.

Mr. Bush gained explicit congressional consent for his invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. In contrast, the Obama administration has not even published a legal opinion attempting to justify the president’s assertion of unilateral war-making authority. This is because no serious opinion can be written.

This became clear when White House officials briefed reporters before Mr. Obama’s speech to the nation on Wednesday evening. They said a war against ISIS was justified by Congress’s authorization of force against Al Qaeda after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and that no new approval was needed.
But the 2001 authorization for the use of military force does not apply here. That resolution — scaled back from what Mr. Bush initially wanted — extended only to nations and organizations that “planned, authorized, committed or aided” the 9/11 attacks.
Not only was ISIS created long after 2001, but Al Qaeda publicly disavowed it earlier this year. It is Al Qaeda’s competitor, not its affiliate….
[Obama’s] refusal even to ask the Justice Department to provide a formal legal pretext for the war on ISIS is astonishing.

Now, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) is fast-tracking an authorization that would give Obama unlimited war-making powers.
Mitch McConnell & Lindsey Graham
Sarah Mimms and Alex Rogers report for NationalJournal that late Wednesday (Jan. 20) night, McConnell surprised many members of Congress by fast-tracking a broad authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) authored by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

“Fast-tracking” refers to “Rule XIV” — setting up authorization for a future vote without putting the proposed AUMF on the Senate calendar, which means a vote can come at any time, or not at all.
McConnell and Graham’s AUMF would give the president unlimited war powers, placing no restrictions on the deployment of ground troops, or on time or geography. Even Obama’s claim of legal authority to wage war against ISIS does not allow for “enduring offensive ground combat operations,” nor is it unlimited in time, but would have expired three years after reenactment, unless reauthorized.
McConnell’s spokesman, Don Stewart, admitted in an email on Thursday that the new AUMF will not “tie the president’s hands”.
McConnell’s move is an about-face, contradicting what he himself had told reporters last month: “It’s clear the president does not have a strategy in place, so it would be hard to figure out how to authorize a non-strategy.”
McConnell’s resolution already has four Republican cosponsors: Sens. Lindsey Graham, Daniel Coats, Joni Ernst, and Orrin Hatch.
Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker (R-TN), while saying that there is still a “wide diversity” of opinions on the issue, nevertheless argues with the Obama administration that no new AUMF is even needed. He said of McConnell’s new resolution, “I don’t think it changes anything [because] I’m in the same place that I’ve been—and that is I believe the administration has the authority to do what they’re doing.”
A Democrat warmonger, Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, who has aggressively advocated for an AUMF, was thrilled Thursday that the Senate could soon take up McConnell’s resolution. He argued that Obama’s war against Islamic State is illegal, “I don’t think there’s a legal justification for it. And I think the greatest danger we end up doing is allowing the president to wage a war without Congress weighing in.”
McConnell’s proposed authorization for the use of military force will not “tie the president’s hands”.
I cannot begin to emphasize how dangerous this new AUMF is, and what a threat to liberty McConnell et al. are.

8 Syrians caught sneaking across U.S.-Mexico border. Obama threatens to veto refugee-vetting bill

Thanks to Obama and Congress, we already have a huge problem with Central American “migrants” illegally swarming across the U.S.-Mexico border. There have also been reports of Muslim terrorists among the illegal migrants.
Now add Syrian “refugees” to the border invaders.

Brandon Darby and Ildefonso Ortiz report for Breitbart.com, Nov. 18, 2015, that two U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents told Breitbart Texas that 8 Syrian illegal aliens attempted to enter Texas from Mexico in the Laredo Sector.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the federal agents said eight Syrians, in two separate “family units,” were apprehended on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the border in Laredo, Texas, also known officially as Port of Entry 1.
Lending credence to the agents’ claim, local president of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) Hector Garza said that Laredo Border Patrol agents have been officially contacting the organization with concerns over reports from other federal agents about Syrians illegally entering the country in the Laredo Sector.
Garza, who is also a border patrol agent, told Breitbart Texas, “Border Patrol agents who we represent have been contacting our organization to voice concerns about reports from other agents that Syrians crossed the U.S. border from Mexico in the Laredo Sector. Our agents have heard about Syrians being apprehended in the area from other federal agents. At this time, I cannot confirm or deny that Syrians have crossed, for security reasons.”
Garza explained that in matters as sensitive as Syrians crossing the border from Mexico, it would be highly unlikely that federal agencies would publicize it or inform a broad group of law enforcement. But he said that NBPC Local 2455 is taking the reports seriously and that they “will be issuing an officer safety bulletin advising Border Patrol agents to exercise extra precautions as they patrol the border.”
Breitbart Texas can confirm that a Syrian did attempt to enter the U.S. illegally through Texas in late September. The Syrian was caught using a passport that belonged to someone else, but U.S. authorities decided against prosecuting anyone involved due to “circumstances.”
Obama favors illegals over vets
Meanwhile, POS Obama already is threatening to veto House bill H.R. 4038, aimed at strengthening Syrian refugee screening.
H.R. 4038: American SAFE Act of 2015 would “require that supplemental certifications and background investigations be completed prior to the admission of certain aliens as refugees, and for other purposes.”
Rep. Michael McCaul
The Wall Street Journal reports that House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R., Texas) and Rep. Richard Hudson (R., N.C.), introduced a bill late Tuesday, which would freeze and overhaul the process used to vet refugees. The FBI would replace the Department of Homeland Security as the primary agency in conducting background checks to certify that any incoming refugee isn’t a national-security threat.
According to Fox News, the bill would require several top security officials to certify that each refugee is not a security threat to the U.S., before a refugee from Iraq or Syria can be admitted.
Floor action on the bill may be as early as today, Nov. 19.
Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA)

Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA)

Although several high-ranking House Democrats, including Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), said they would vote against the bill, saying its language would effectively freeze the program for years, the House is expected to easily pass the proposed bill.
The prospects in the Senate are unclear. That other POS, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), has also called for a “pause” in admitting Syrian refugees, but he hasn’t yet said whether the Senate would take up the bill.
Yesterday, Obama threatened to veto the bill, saying it would add unnecessary hurdles to an already-rigorous screening process. A White House statement insisted that the changes called for under the bill would create “significant delays and obstacles” for the existing vetting program, and that “Given the lives at stake and the critical importance to our partners in the Middle East and Europe of American leadership in addressing the Syrian refugee crisis … [Obama] would veto the bill.”
Blah, blah, blah.

Here’s what you can do:

John Boehner to resign as House Speaker

From New York Times:

Speaker John A. Boehner, under intense pressure from conservatives in his party, will resign one of the most powerful positions in government and give up his House seat at the end of October, throwing Congress into chaos as it tries to avert a government shutdown.

Mr. Boehner made the announcement in an emotional meeting with his fellow Republicans on Friday morning.

This is long overdue.

I’d like to think Boehner’s resignation will make a difference, but so long as Mitch McConnell — whom I loath even more than Boehner — remains as Senate Majority Leader, the GOP will continue to be eunuchs, and even more Republicans than the 62% in a recent Fox News poll will feel betrayed by their party.

GOP elites tell Conservatives and Tea Party to shut up

The bastards have already forgotten that we elected and reelected them to office.
Citing Politico as her source, Melanie Batley reports for NewsMax, Nov. 6, 2014, that just two days after their historic midterm victories, the Republican congressional leadership is “sending out signals” to the Republican rank-and-file, especially the so-called “hard right,” that infighting and gridlock will not be tolerated.

In other words, they are telling Conservatives and the Tea Party to shut up.

The way Politico put it was: “Emboldened by sweeping midterm election victories, Republican leaders are vowing not to repeat the errors of past years, when messy fiscal fights eroded public confidence in Washington and became the hallmark of the GOP-controlled House.” That’s because the GOP leadership feel justified in demanding loyalty from the conservative wing of the party, given that the victories from this election cycle were mainly the result of the party’s early backing of establishment candidates, some of whom are from moderate districts.
Mitch McConnell
1. Incoming Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he will not go along with conservative calls to use the debt ceiling as leverage for spending cuts, an insistence by Tea Party members which triggered the government shutdown last year. McConnell has already vowed that there will not be a government shutdown on his watch. And in his victory speech Tuesday night, McConnell made it clear he would also be extending the olive branch to Barack Obama, saying the GOP has a “duty” to work with the White House on issues they agree on. “I’m pretty familiar with our conference including the new members who are coming in,” McConnell said. “The vast majority of them don’t feel they were sent to Washington to fight all the time.”
boehner_balling
2. House Speaker John Boehner is telling colleagues he plans to be a “responsible leader.” By that, he means the party needs to be unified to take advantage of its political dominance.

Rep. Steve StiversIn June 2014, Rep. Stiver’s chief of staff Adam Kuhn was forced for resign after his ex-lover, former porn star Jennifer Allbaugh posted a photo of Kuhn’s penis on Twitter. (Source)

3. Ohio GOP Rep. Steve Stivers, a close ally of Boehner, told Politico, “What this election did is give us a working majority where we have at least 218 votes to pass a Republican agenda, and what I think will be a responsible Republican agenda. We’re not veering hard right, we’re playing it straight down the fairway, to use a Boehner-ism.”
Boehner and McConnell have already set out their legislative agenda, saying in a joint editorial that their top priority is to help the struggling middle class, and a first step will be passing many of the bills the House has already approved. “Enacting such measures early in the new session will signal that the logjam in Washington has been broken, and help to establish a foundation of certainty and stability that both parties can build upon,” they wrote.
The GOP elites maintain that unity could be paramount to maintaining the Senate majority in 2016, when a number of senators from blue and purple states are up for re-election.

Meanwhile, to make your Saturday even better [sarc], now that Republicans are in control of the Senate, John McCain is set to be chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. The same warmonger McCain who has never met a war he doesn’t want to drag the United States into.
Recall that McCain was a big proponent of a U.S. war in Syria. On September 4, 2013, he was one of three Republicans who joined 7 Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in approving a Senate resolution granting Obama authority to conduct military strikes on Syria’s government.

Did You Know That Republicans Are Responsible For Ebola?

No? Well folks I do believe the Dipwads of the Democrat party are running so scared that they just may have reached a new low in political advertising. Ebola = Death = GOP.  You know those LIV’s will put it together. Please watch it. It’s one minute.

The Agenda Project is a progressive non-profit political organization founded in 2010 by author Erica Payne. This ad, featuring clips of Mitch McConnell, Pat Roberts, and many other Republicans implies that austerity cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and National Institutes of Health are responsible for the 2014 Ebola outbreak. This ad with run in Kentucky and other states leading up to the election.

Amnesty – and the Traitors among us

My writer friend, Robert K. Wilcox, speaks the undeniable truth about the Gang of 8 immigration reform Amnesty for Illegal Aliens bill. FOTM is grateful for his permission to re-publish his essay in its entirety.

welcome to Meximerica

THE TRAITORS AMONG US

There are traitors in our midst and I’m not talking about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. I’m talking about every corrupt, greedy, self-serving, cowardly politician hurting Americans. There are many and they don’t give a damn. Amnesty is the latest crime these sell-outs are perpetrating on the people. It’s a mugging just as sure as a criminal puts a gun to your head and takes your money. They did it with Obamacare and they’re going to do it with amnesty.

There’s no reason for amnesty. Enforce the borders, then deal with those who have broken the law. Democrat traitors want amnesty to increase their power. To hell with existing law which demands border enforcement. Who cares about the rule of law and the jobs of American workers? Amnesty, they know, will give them many more voters. Those pardoned will overwhelmingly vote Democrat. The traitor press and socialist dominate education system has guaranteed that.

Republican traitors want amnesty for the cheap labor it will provide Big Businesses who are their donors and keep them elected. There are also the Republican fools who incredibly believe it will actually gain their party votes. The Democrats know better but why burst the fool’s bubble?

The worst traitors are the political leaders who know full well what this [is] about – Obama at the head, Reid and McConnell in the Senate, Boehner and his officers in the House. Obama won’t enforce existing law so the lie of the broken “system” reigns. The system isn’t broken. It might need some tweaks. But it’s the politicians who made the system. They’re the ones who are “broken.” We already have laws that would secure the borders. These broken politicians won’t enforce them.

At least Reid makes no pretense. He’s as slippery as an eel and is using every trick in the senate rules book to move a basically unreadable, near-thousand page bill as fast as he can in order to make it law before anyone has the time to read it. He knows it leaves enforcement up to border dictator Janet Napolitano who will do exactly what Obama wants – not enforce border security. He knows the bill will keep he and Democrats like him in office for decades with millions of newly made Democrats. He knows it will cost low-wage working Americans their jobs and middle-class Americans what little prosperity they have left after all the earlier treason.Their wealth will go to the welfare monster that the newly-amnestied illegal aliens will demand and the newly more powerful Democrats will willingly provide. He doesn’t care a wit. It’s in his interest and that’s all that counts.

McConnell is just as slippery but in a less obvious way. The polls show his party constituents overwhelmingly against amnesty. He wrings his hands and laments the amnesty moves with deep concern on his owl-like face. But despite the fact he could block it with the many tools at his beckon as minority leader, he does nothing. Leadership means leading. But the Obama style of leadership – being absent – is catching. McConnell is a prime example. It subverts the Americans he supposedly represents.

Boehner never was a leader. He got his job like so many other Republican leaders “because it’s his time.” I don’t know how he keeps it. I got his newsletter today. The headline reads “Our students deserve better.” It’s about how he wants to hold the line on student loan interest rates. Student loans! At a time when the very future of his party and the nation’s borders hinges on the amnesty bill, he’s concerned about student loans going up? What about Obamacare, Benghazi, IRS politicization, Fast and Furious, the attorney general lying to congress? No, those important issues take a back seat. He wants to control student loan interest rates.

That isn’t even Republican. Republicans are supposed to favor free markets; i.e, let the interest rates be what the market determines. But that’s typical of the confused pap, cowardly reticence to challenge, and disregard for the nation’s pressing issues coming from the speaker’s office. He was elected speaker to attend to America’s major problems with the power of the House. But he’s unaware of them, afraid, or too self-serving to care. A pundit I heard called him “a used car salesmen, just wanting to make a deal.” What could be more pressing than making sure the borders are closed when terrorists are daily crossing them, threatening our lives? Student loans? Would you like to see the sedan?

They’re selling us down the river, Democrats and RINO Republicans, forcing this amnesty without care for its effects on our nation or even reasonable debate about its ills. It’s tantamount to treason, for it will lead to a catastrophic invasion of America that violates its sovereignty, tramples the rule of law and fairness, and will ruin the country economically as surely as if a spy divulged secrets allowing the nation to be invaded.

~Robert K. Wilcox

illegals demand free stuff

On Monday, June 24, 2013, the U.S. Senate passed an amendment to the Gang of 8 “immigration reform” amnesty bill, S. 744, Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act. The amendment effectively is now the substitute bill.

By a vote of 69 to 29, senators amended the immigration bill to include provisions that would double the size of the U.S. Border Patrol along the Mexican border, require the construction of 700 miles of fencing along the southern border and authorize the use of new radar and unmanned aerial drones to track illegal border crossings.

But the Senate amendment  doesn’t actually secure the border. Under current law, the federal government is mandated to secure the border, but they refuse to do so. The new amendment removes the mandate and provides for “discretion” to do so. If the federal government wouldn’t secure the border when it was a mandate, why would they secure it now that it’s at their discretion?

Furthermore, the amendment is jam-packed with pork. Millions upon millions go to Nevada for tourism marketing, for example — which is why Nevada’s newly elected senator Dean Heller voted “yes”). Others who voted yes get also get huge inflows of cash for programs aimed at putting illegal immigrants to work.

The bill is a disaster as it stands today. Just like Obamacare, the amended amnesty bill is 1,200 pages and we’re only just now starting to get a glimpse of how bad it is. There is no way possible the senators who voted yes on the amendment were able to carefully read and consider its implications. Yet, they recklessly voted for it anyway.

Here are the “Filthy 15” Republican senators who have joined the Left in voting “yes” on Amnesty:

  1. John McCain (Ariz.)
  2. Lindsey Graham (S.C.)
  3. Marco Rubio (Fla.)
  4. Jeff Flake (Ariz.)
  5. Bob Corker (Tenn.)
  6. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.)
  7. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.)
  8. Jeff Chiesa (N.J.)
  9. Susan Collins (Maine)
  10. Orrin Hatch (Utah)
  11. Dean Heller (Nev.)
  12. Mark Kirk (Ill.)
  13. John Hoeven (N.D.)
  14. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
  15. Roger Wicker (Miss.)

IRS Apologizes For Targeting Conservative Groups. Well Hell must have just froze Over

POLITICO Breaking News!!

Well Golly and Gee Wizz Gomer. Targeting Conservatives, who would have thunk it. Duh.

—————————————————————————————————

 AP Photo

By BYRON TAULAUREN FRENCH and TARINI PARTI | 5/10/13 10:45 AM EDT Updated: 5/10/13 2:19 PM EDT

The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday to conservative political groups for giving their tax documents extra scrutiny — validating the worst fears of Republican activists who have long accused the Obama administration of politicizing the process.
Roughly 75 groups were singled out using words like “tea party” or “patriot” in tax documents, Lois Lerner, who is responsible for overseeing tax-exempt groups, said on a hastily arranged conference call Friday afternoon.

“Mistakes were made initially, but they were in no way due to any political or partisan rationale,” the IRS said in a separate statement.

The announcement is the latest black eye for an agency that has been criticized by members of Congress from both parties, reform groups and conservative activists for its handling of politically active tax-exempt nonprofits.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called for President Barack Obama to order a “transparent, government-wide review” to see if similar practices are happening elsewhere in the administration.
House Ways and Means oversight subcommittee Chairman Charles Boustany told POLITICO he will launch an “aggressive” investigation. “We’re not going to let this rest,” the Louisiana Republican said. “We’re going to pursue this vigorously.”

Outside groups on both sides have increasingly chosen to organize as nonprofits — regulated and reviewed by the IRS instead of the Federal Election Commission. Their nonprofit status exempts those groups from paying federal taxes — and unlike super PACs, allows them to hide their donors.

Major outside groups like the Karl Rove-affiliated Crossroads GPS, Koch brothers-backed Americans for Prosperity and the pro-Barack Obama group Priorities USA are organized as 501(c)(4) nonprofits.
The IRS statement said the agency “should have done a better job” dealing with the dramatic influx in applications for 501(c)(4) status. It also said that the decisions on how to handle the applications were made by “local, career employees in Cincinnati.”
“When we see an uptick in applications from a particular type of group…that we don’t ordinarily see, what we do is we centralize those applications into one group to work on them. We do this all the time,” Lerner told reporters. “The problem here was that in some cases they added actual case names to the list. They added ‘tea party’ and ‘patriot’ to the list of cases that should be centralized in this group.”
Lerner said that she only began looking into the issue when the press started writing about it last year before the election. but she declined to say why it took six months for the agency to publicly admit the practice or if any employees involved had been punished.
Lerner added that she was not aware if White House or Treasury Department employees knew about the review before Friday’s apology, and said she did not remember when she notified higher-ups at the IRS.
The White House has not responded to a request for comment.
McConnell said the IRS’s apology wasn’t nearly enough. “Make no mistake, an apology won’t put this issue to rest,” he said. “Now more than ever we need to send a clear message to the Obama administration that the First Amendment is non-negotiable, and that apologies after an election year are not an sufficient response to what we now know took place at the IRS.
“This kind of political thuggery has absolutely no place in our politics,”
And now for the rest of the story.

Castrati Senate Republicans cede power to Obama

Mitch McConnellHead eunuch: Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell

House Republicans have passed two alternatives to the sequester cuts, which the POS in the White House threatens to veto. At the same time, the Republican eunuchs in the Senate have refused to consider either of the House measures.
Politico reports that Senate Repubs are now taking one step further in their wimpy eunuchness — they are circulating a draft bill that cedes power to Obama to make spending cuts. Politico’s Manu Raju and David Rogers write:

Days before the March 1 deadline, Senate Republicans are circulating a draft bill that would cancel $85 billion in across-the-board spending cuts and instead turn over authority to President Barack Obama to achieve the same level of savings under a plan to be filed by March 8.

The five-page document, which has the tacit support of Senate GOP leaders, represents a remarkable shift for the party. Having railed against Senate Democrats for not passing a budget, Republicans are now proposing that Congress surrender an important piece of its Constitutional “power of the purse” for the last seven months of this fiscal year.

Obama Gets a Smack Down

164wa4 (2)

DEVELOPING: Obama recess appointments unconstitutional, court.

By Stephen Dinan
The Washington Times Updated: 11:41 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013
n a case freighted with major constitutional implications, a federal appeals court on Friday overturned President Obama’s controversial recess appointments from last year, ruling he abused his powers and acted when the Senate was not actually in a recess.
The three-judge panel’s ruling is a major blow to Mr. Obama. The judges ruled that the appointments Mr. Obama made to the National Labor Relations Board are illegal, and the board no longer has a quorum to operate.
But the ruling has even broader constitutional significance, with the judges arguing that the president’s recess appointment powers don’t apply to “intrasession” appointments — those made when Congress has left town for a few days or weeks.
The judges signaled the power only applies after Congress has adjourned sine die, which is a legislative term of art that signals the end to a long work period. In modern times, it means the president could only use his powers when Congress quits business at the end of a year.
“The dearth of intrasession appointments in the years and decades following the ratification of the Constitution speaks far more impressively than the history of recent presidential exercise of a supposed power to make such appointments,” the judges wrote.

“Recent presidents are doing no more than interpreting the Constitution. While we recognize that all branches of government must of necessity exercise their understanding of the Constitution in order to perform their duties faithfully thereto, ultimately it is our role to discern the authoritative meaning of the supreme law.”

The case is likely to end up before the Supreme Court, and it turns on the definition of what the Constitution means when it says “recess.”
ast January Mr. Obama named union lawyer Richard Griffin and Labor Department official Sharon Block, both Democrats, and a Republican, NLRB lawyer Terence Flynn, to the labor board using his recess powers. He also named Richard Cordray to head the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, using those same powers.
Noel Canning, a bottling company, sued the NLRB, arguing that a rule issued by the new board was illegal since the recess appointments were unconstitutional. Senate Republicans, led by Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, joined in the suit.
