Liberal utopia of California: Prohibited possessor & career criminal who killed Sacramento County deputy flaunted his guns on social media

Career criminal Paris: Proof that CA gun laws don’t work if not enforced

Unenforced gun laws combined with bureaucratic mistakes cost a deputy his life. Tragic.

From Sacramento Bee: Anton Lemon Paris, the man accused of killing one Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy and wounding another, has been charged on multiple occasions with serious crimes including assault with a deadly weapon and possession of an illegal assault rifle.

With regular frequency, he has been arrested for lower-level offenses including domestic violence and carrying a loaded firearm, according to court records, and reported to police for alleged bank fraud, car theft and making death threats.

He has been banned by the courts from owning guns at least twice, but for years has openly flaunted them on social media and on city streets.

As recently as July, he was reported to police for firing a gun in public.

Paris, 38, is now charged with murder and attempted murder for the Sept. 17 Rancho Cordova shooting that left Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Stasyuk dead and his partner Julie Robertson wounded. Paris allegedly pulled a gun on the deputies seconds after they entered the Pep Boys store in Rancho Cordova, shooting a clerk before following Stasyuk outside and firing lethal shots into his back and head.

It’s a grim finale to at least 20 years of violence and trouble that thrust Paris into the path of law enforcement and the courts more than a dozen times, but which resulted more in luck and leniency than consequences. His life was punctuated with a series of minor infractions that made him appear more of a menace than a threat. But a critical mistake on his rap sheet, plea deals, favorable jury decisions and apparent inaction by law enforcement allowed Paris to continue unchecked a chaotic and malevolent life that seemingly slid deeper into criminality the more he escaped punishment, official records show.

“He’s gotten away with everything he has done,” said the daughter of a former girlfriend of Paris’ who says he threatened to kill her. She asked not to be identified because she fears retaliation. “He was the guy who was willing to shoot anybody because he felt entitled to, because he felt above the law. He felt better than everybody, like he could do whatever and get away with it because he has.”

Paris’ most serious conviction came in 2010 from possessing a pair of homemade nunchucks – a felony that was erroneously recorded on his state criminal record as a lesser charge.

The incident that led to the conviction started with a nuisance call on April 4, 2008. A neighbor living near Paris’ father, Anthony Paris, in West Sacramento called police to report a person playing a car stereo in the morning, loudly enough to trigger her migraines. An officer arrived and found the younger Paris in his Lincoln Town Car, parked in his father’s driveway.

Paris turned down the stereo, locked the car and turned on the alarm as the officer approached. The officer said in court testimony he thought it was strange behavior and became suspicious. He asked to see identification and Paris turned over his wallet. Inside, the officer found a list of guns with serial numbers, according to court records. Two guns on the list were reported stolen, but were never located in Paris’ possession, according to court documents.

The officer searched the car and found a loaded Glock .45 caliber handgun under the passenger seat, ammunition, marijuana, scales and an illegally modified Ruger Mini-14 semiautomatic rifle in the trunk. He also found what Paris claimed was a broken security baton but which a court expert described as homemade nunchucks – two wooden dowels with holes drilled to allow rope to connect them.

Nunchucks are prohibited in California and possessing them can be a felony offense.

Paris was registered as a security guard and held a valid exposed firearm permit from the state Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, allowing him to have the handgun in his car for work purposes, agency records show. The rifle was not required by the state to be registered, but was modified with a flash suppressor, according to court testimony. That made it illegal, but Paris claimed he didn’t know about the suppressor.

Paris also possessed a medical marijuana license, making the cannabis legal – though the 101 gram quantity led to charges of selling it. Paris said he used the cannabis to treat pain for a gunshot wound he had sustained in his leg a year prior related to his work as a security guard, when he claimed someone from an apartment complex he guarded had recognized him off duty and attempted to rob his car. He told the court he was receiving state disability from that injury, along with a payment of $8,597.16 from a state victims’ compensation fund, more than $4,000 of which the arresting officer found in the pocket of his 49ers jacket.

A Yolo County jury believed him and hung on most counts, but convicted him of one felony for having the makeshift martial arts weapon. He was also found guilty of enhancements to the felony that included being armed with a firearm and an assault weapon.

Paris was given 273 days in county jail in February 2011. During the sentencing hearing, Paris snuck out of the courthouse and disappeared. Whether Paris was apprehended or turned himself in is unclear, but records show he began serving his sentence in June 2011.

The conviction was listed on his state criminal record, commonly called a rap sheet, as a misdemeanor. The California Department of Justice, which maintains rap sheets, declined to speak about the mistake, citing state privacy laws.

Sticker shock coming with California's new legalized marijuana market

mafia
Government is going to be in charge. What else would you expect to happen?
From ABC News: California’s legal marijuana marketplace is coming with a kaleidoscope of new taxes and fees that could influence where it’s grown, how pot cookies and other munchies are produced and the price tag on just about everything.
Be ready for sticker shock. On a retail level, it costs about $35 to buy a small bag of good quality medical marijuana in Los Angeles, enough to roll five or six joints.
But in 2018, when legal sales take hold and additional taxes kick in, the cost of that same purchase in the new recreational market is expected to increase at the retail counter to $50 or $60. At the high end, that’s about a 70 percent jump.
Medical pot purchases are expected to rise in cost too, but not as steeply, industry experts say.
Or consider cannabis leaves, a sort of bottom-shelf product that comes from trimming prized plant buds. The loose, snipped leaves are typically gathered up and processed for use in cannabis-laced foods, ointments, concentrates and candies.
Growers sell a trash bag stuffed with clippings to manufacturers for about $50. But come January, the state will tax those leaves at $44 a pound. That means the tax payment on a bag holding 7 or 8 pounds would exceed the current market price by five or six times, forcing a huge price hike or, more likely, rendering it essentially valueless.
“All it would become is compost,” predicted Ryan Jennemann of THC Design in Los Angeles, whose company has used the leaves to manufacture concentrated oils.
Governments struggling to keep up with the cost of everything from worker pensions to paving streets are eager for the cascade of new tax money from commercial pot sales that could eventually top $1 billion statewide.
But higher taxes for businesses and consumers give the state’s thriving illicit market a built-in advantage. Operators in the legal market have been urging regulators to be aggressive about shutting down rogue operators.
Donnie Anderson, a Los Angeles medical cultivator and retailer, predicted the higher level of state taxation next year is “just going to help the illicit market thrive.” He said more needs to be done to cut the cost, especially for medical users, many of whom won’t be able to absorb a price jump.
The increased tax rates are just one part of California’s sprawling plan to transform its long-standing medical and illegal markets into a multibillion-dollar regulated economy, the nation’s largest legal pot shop. The reshaping of such an expansive illegal economy into a legal one hasn’t been witnessed since the end of Prohibition in 1933.
The change has come haltingly. Many cities are unlikely to be ready by Jan. 1 to issue business licenses, which are needed to operate in the new market, while big gaps remain in the system intended to move cannabis from the field to distribution centers, then to testing labs and eventually retail shops.
The path to legalization began last year when voters approved Proposition 64, which opened the way for recreational pot sales to adults. Medical marijuana has been legal in California for about two decades.
Come January, state taxes will include a 15 percent levy on purchases of all cannabis and cannabis products, including medical pot.
Local governments are free to slap on taxes on sales and growing too, and that has created a confusing patchwork of rates that vary city to city, county to county.

Pro-pot bus tour rolls onto college campuses to ‘get out the vote or f*ck it all’

Campus Reform: Proponents of a controversial medical marijuana amendment are rolling onto college campuses across the state of Florida in order to “get out the vote, or fuck it all.”

John Morgan

John Morgan

John Morgan, a Florida attorney who has invested at least $4 million into the United for Care campaign, kicked off a pro-medical marijuana bus tour this past Monday at the University of Central Florida. The bus tour seeks to convince students to vote yes on Amendment 2, which would legalize medical marijuana in the state.
The tour has made additional stops at University of South Florida, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida International University.
While the tour is named “For the Patients,” a private campaign memo obtained by Campus Reform showcases a much crasser theme. This schedule encourages those on the campaign to “[g]et out the vote, or fuck it all.”
Ben Pollara, campaign manager for United for Care, confirmed to Campus Reform that the document is authentic and legitimate but seemed surprised that it had been leaked.
“First of all I don’t know how that got out; did you get a copy of that?” asked Pollara. “That was some internal emails around the campaign and was a reference to a speech that John Morgan, our chairman, made to a group of young people at a bar late at night.”
In a video posted to YouTube, Morgan can be seen delivering the speech to a crowd of college students at a bar, peppering his words with profanity. During his speech, Morgan tells students to “fuck the sheriff” and offers to buy every pro-Amendment 2 crowd member a sex on the beach cocktail.
“I’m here for one reason tonight and one reason only. I’m trying to legalize medical marijuana,” Morgan said to a screaming crowd. “I’m not just here to do it. I’m here to fucking do it.”
“If you motherfuckers don’t get up and vote, fuck it all,” Morgan continued. “We can’t win, I’m telling you. If you don’t get out of your goddam bed and vote, we will lose this election.”
Dr. Jessica Spencer, spokeswoman for Vote No on 2, which posted YouTube video, believes the bus tour has less to do with patients and more to do with pandering to young, recreational-marijuana supportive students.
“Morgan’s tactics are sad. It’s sad for the people who actually need medicine. I always question which face Morgan is wearing. With one face, college students are chanting for the reefer, but on the other face Morgan is talking to the senior population about medicine,” Spencer told Campus Reform in an interview.
Spencer’s colleague explained that the amendment is controversial not for its subject matter, but for the wording of the amendment. “[O]nce you wade through all of the trickery surrounding this Amendment, you realize it’s simply pot for any purpose,” Sarah Bascom, spokeswoman for the Vote No on 2 campaign, explained in a press release obtained by Campus Reform.
Pollara dismisses Vote No on 2’s concerns. “The opposition to this campaign doesn’t have any good arguments against medical marijuana so they instead try to nit-pick the amendment and make their arguments against the text of the amendment rather than the concept of medical marijuana,” Pollara told Campus Reform.
If the amendment passes in November, Florida students will be able to buy marijuana from pot shops with a written recommendation from a physician. Amendment 2 needs 60 percent approval from Fla., voters in the upcoming midterm election to pass.

Welfare parasites can buy marijuana with food stamps

Obama smoking pot
Add marijuana to the long and growing list of abuses of welfare, specifically food stamps or EBT cards. (For other abuses, go to the “see also” links at the end of this post.)
S. A. Miller reports for The Washington Times, Sept. 9, 2014, that welfare recipients can use their EBT cards at marijuana “dispensaries” in states such as Colorado that have legalized pot. EBT cards are what used to be called food stamps
Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama) announced he’s drafting legislation to close the welfare-for-weed loophole after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed to him that marijuana shops were not off limits to EBT cards or other federal benefits.
Sen. Sessions, a ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, said, “The federal government current spends roughly $750 billion each year on means-tested welfare programs across 80 different accounts. This money is administered by a vast, sprawling bureaucracy with little oversight and no moral vision. Surely we can all agree that the guiding principle ought to be that benefits are reserved for those in real need.”
Sessions pointed out that Congress in 2011 had passed laws that allowed HHS to prohibit Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits from being spent at vice institutions, such as liquor stores, strip clubs and casinos. But the department did not interpret that authority to include marijuana shops. Sessions was surprised to learn that HHS says it “has no authority to prescribe policies and practices … to prohibit the use of TANF benefit cards at marijuana stores.”
The People’s Republic of Berkeley in the San Francisco Bay Area does DHS one better.
In Berkeley, “poor people” don’t even have to use their EBT cards for marijuana — they get it free! Wee!
In July of this year, Berkeley’s City Council unanimously passed a new law whereby the city’s medical marijuana dispensaries must provide 2% of their cannabis free of charge to very low-income residents. The latter are defined as individuals who make under $32,000 or families that earn less than $46,000.

Why Soros Sinks $1 Million Into Legalizing Pot

One of the issues California voters are asked to vote on this Tuesday is Proposition 19, which would legalize the production and possession of “small” amounts of marijuana (aka cannabis).
California already legalizes the “medical” use of marijuana since November 1996 — a practice that is widely abused. According to the federal government (DEA), “there is no state regulation or standard of the cultivation and/or distribution medical marijuana. California leaves the establishment of any guidelines to local jurisdictions, which can widely vary. Local and state law enforcement counterparts cannot distinguish between illegal marijuana grows and grows that qualify as medical exemptions. Many self-designated medical marijuana growers are, in fact, growing marijuana for illegal, ‘recreational’ use.”
Now California seeks to legalize marijuana altogether. And the evil George Soros, international financial speculator profiteer and sugar daddy to Obama and the Left, has poured $1 million into Prop. 19.
Contrary to the pro-cannabis myth, marijuana is not harmless but has serious medical effects. Daily smokers of marijuana have a 5.7 times higher risk of lung cancer than non-users. Cannabis use is also correlated with the development of anxiety, depression, and psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia.
The legalization of addictive mind-altering drugs is part of the “break down of cultural standards of morality,” which is one of the 45 Communist Goals for America.

Time to declare war on the sugar daddy from hell and force behind Obama regime
By Jeffrey T. Kuhner – World Tribune – October 29, 2010
George Soros is back. The leftist billionaire wrote a column this week calling for the legalization of marijuana. In the Wall Street Journal’s op-ed pages, Mr. Soros supports California’s Proposition 19, the ballot initiative that would legalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana and its domestic cultivation.
Proposition 19 is a major step toward Mr. Soros’ ultimate goal: the legalization of almost all hard drugs — including cocaine and heroin. This is a cause Mr. Soros has pushed — and bankrolled — for decades. It would take America closer to his vision of a European-style permissive social democracy.
The prevalence of drugs threatens the very fabric of our society, destroying the lives (and brains) of millions of Americans. It also fosters child abuse, domestic violence, crime, illegitimacy, AIDS and social breakdown. It is a public scourge whose use should not be encouraged or legally sanctioned, but eradicated. The fact that legalization would result in more drug-induced deaths and higher addiction rates, especially among children and teenagers, means nothing to Mr. Soros. He champions the culture of death. Abortion, atheism, pornography, gay marriage, euthanasia and doctor-assisted suicide — these are the issues central to Mr. Soros’ progressive agenda. Media elites pay little attention to Mr. Soros and his nefarious activities because they share his political philosophy. Hence, they refuse to shine a spotlight on his secretive, rapacious and immoral behavior. They are complicit in covering up his shady, manipulative and destructive business dealings and his extreme neo-Marxist views.
Mr. Soros is the sugar daddy of the Democratic Party and the modern left. His net worth is more than $7 billion. He is one of the richest and most influential men in the world. Almost every major liberal organization, think tank or media outlet has been the beneficiary of Mr. Soros’ largesse. The Nation magazine, Mother Jones, Media Matters, MoveOn.org, NPR and the Center for American Progress — all together they have received tens of millions of dollars from the financier. They serve as front groups and propaganda vehicles to promote Mr. Soros’ brand of transnational socialism. He has poured hundreds of millions into the former communist bloc. The former Soviet empire has thus become the Soros empire. Mr. Soros has worked behind the scenes to destabilize and influence governments such as Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, Georgia, Kosovo and Ukraine. In the process, he has plundered countries’ natural resources.
Mr. Soros is a liberal imperialist who seeks to erect one-world government. He is a rabid anti-capitalist. He favors high taxes, lavish public spending, welfare statism, massive redistribution of wealth to the poor and a tightly controlled international regulatory financial system. He despises nationalism and the West’s Judeo-Christian heritage. His aim is to usher in a new global order — one based on scientific materialism and progressive social engineering. He champions amnesty for illegal immigrants and erasing our borders with Mexico and Canada. In his view, religion, nation-states and the family are repressive, antiquated institutions that must be abolished. He is the enemy of democracy and America.
During the presidency of George W. Bush, Mr. Soros called for “regime change.” He spent nearly $25 million hoping to defeat Mr. Bush in 2004. He failed — barely. The billionaire is fostering greater financial chaos to devalue our currency. Mr. Soros is betting against the U.S. dollar, attempting to undermine its value on the global markets. Destroy the dollar, and America’s economic might goes with it. Mr. Soros wants to repeat his legendary 1992 assault on Britain’s pound sterling, in which he nearly bankrupted London’s central bank and caused an economic crisis — forcing English taxpayers to pick up the costly tab. Mr. Soros made out like a bandit, pocketing about $1 billion from his currency-manipulation scheme.
He is a shrewd student of history. Like Leon Trotsky, one of the founders of the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, Mr. Soros believes in fomenting permanent crisis in the service of permanent revolution. A protracted economic crisis will decimate the middle class — and bring with it the acceptance of unprecedented government intervention. This is what he hoped would happen over the past several years.
Mr. Soros is a hypocrite. He claims to want higher taxes on the wealthy and stricter corporate regulations. But his investment fund is registered in the Netherlands Antilles, enabling him to dodge income and dividend taxes to Uncle Sam. His investments and money are sheltered in offshore accounts — away from the clutches of the Internal Revenue Service or the watchful eye of the Securities and Exchange Commission. In 2002, he was convicted in France of insider trading. He has financial interests tied to Latin American drug cartels. For example, he reportedly has a major stake in Banco de Colombia, a bank known to be laundering money for drug kingpins.
In short, he thinks the rules do not apply to him. Mr. Soros is ultimately an amoral megalomaniac who is detached from reality. He refers to himself as “the pope’s boss.” He has admitted to having messianic impulses. “I fancied myself as some kind of god,” he once said. He went on to emphasize that “truth be known, I carried some rather potent messianic fantasies with me from childhood, which I felt I had to control, otherwise they might get me in trouble.” Yet Mr. Soros claims he has learned to deal with them — by embracing his world historical destiny. “It is a sort of disease when you consider yourself some kind of god, the creator of everything, but I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out.”
The fact that Mr. Soros is the power behind the Obama regime reveals its moral and intellectual bankruptcy — and the depths to which liberalism has fallen. Rather than being a hero and benefactor, he should be an embarrassment to liberals everywhere. Moreover, he poses a clear and present danger to the republic and its founding values. If Republicans regain control of Congress, they should launch an investigation into Mr. Soros’ nefarious political activities and shady financial dealings. He has declared war on conservatives; it is time we declare war on him.
