Why 63% disapproval of Portland’s radical left mayor Ted Wheeler is bad news for conservatives

Portland, Oregon has now had more than 100 consecutive nights of violent mayhem by Antifa and BLM anarchists and thugs.

Portland mayor Ted Wheeler

Portland’s mayor, 58-year-old Edward Tevis “Ted” Wheeler, boasts higher-educational credentials of a B.A. in economics from Stanford University, a Master’s in business administration from Columbia University, and a Master’s in public policy from Harvard University.

The epitome of so-called “white privilege”, Wheeler is a 6th-generation Oregonian, born to and heir of a conservative wealthy family who made their fortune in the timber industry. Wheeler worked in the financial services industry for corporations including Bank of America and Copper Mountain Trust before entering politics in 2006 as a registered Republican when he was elected Multnomah, OR county commissioner.

In 2010, he was appointed State Treasurer by Oregon’s Democrat governor Ted Kulongoski. Later that year, Wheeler switched party and won the Democrat primary for Treasurer; in 2013, he was elected Treasurer in a special election. Three years later, in 2016, Wheeler was elected mayor of Portland with 54% of the vote.

George Floyd protests began in Portland on May 28, 2020. Initially peaceful, the protests turned into a riot two days later on May 30. Despite that, on June 9, Wheeler proposed the defunding of three Portland police units, including the gun violence reduction team; the “diversion” of $12 million from the police bureau and other city departments to support “communities of color”; and banning officers from using chokeholds. On June 17, the Portland city council defunded the city police by cutting at least $15 million from the police department and eliminating 84 positions.

In early July, the federal government deployed law enforcement officers to Portland for the stated purpose of protecting federal property, including the U.S. courthouse that repeatedly had been vandalized since June. The federal officers made arrests and fired pepper spray or tear gas at protesters who got too close to the courthouse. Ted Wheeler and Oregon’s Demonrat governor Kate Brown denounced President Trump’s deployment of federal officers to protect federal property in Portland.

On August 28, Wheeler wrote an open letter to President Trump asking him not to send the National Guard to the city, saying that “We don’t need your politics of division and demagoguery.” This, despite the fact that a year ago in August 2019, Wheeler had requested that the National Guard be on standby in anticipation of a potentially explosive stand-off between Antifa demonstrators and “far-right” groups. Gov. Brown denied Wheeler’s request.

On September 1, 2020, after Antifa rioters attacked, vandalized and burned a fire in the apartment building in which Wheeler has a condo, he said he would move out “for the safety” of the apartment’s residents.

Here on Fellowship of the Minds, we have wondered why Portland residents are tolerating the continuous, unceasing nightly riots and mayhem — of arson, vandalism, looting, toppling of statues, assaults, and the shooting death of a Trump supporter. Some of us speculate that Portlanders are not doing anything about the continuous riots because they fear being targeted and attacked.

But their silence and do-nothing do not mean approval.

Everton Bailey Jr. reports for Oregon Live, Sept. 8, 2020, that two months ahead of the November 3 election (and Wheeler’s reelection), a new poll shows that 63% or two-thirds of likely Portland voters have an “unfavorable” impression of mayor Ted Wheeler.

That finding has been trumpeted by conservatives, including talk radio titan Rush Limbaugh, as a sign that the tides are turning.

But is it?

My reaction to the poll is one of incredulity . Only two-thirds of Portlanders disapprove of their mayor? That means as many as a third of Portland voters actually approve of Wheeler’s handling of the continuous riots?

Here are some other findings of the phone and online poll of 435 “likely” Portland voters, conducted by California-based FM3 Research, which indicate that Portlanders haven’t really changed:

  • Only a little more than half (59%) believe Portland is heading in the wrong direction.
  • 76% view the Marxist Black Lives Matter favorably; 22% unfavorable.
  • 92% support “non-violent protests”, but as many as 67% are in favor of “these protests” — i.e., the ongoing mayhem.
  • A majority of Portlanders believe there is a systemic problem in the city’s policing system. 70% said they would vote for a November ballot measure to create a new community-driven independent police oversight system, whatever that means. Not surprisingly, there is a partisan divide on the the ballot measure, with 90% of Democrats and 60% of Independents supporting the measure, whereas 78% of conservatives and 70% of Republicanas are against it. Alas, conservatives make up a small portion of the Portland electorate.

Day 96 of “peaceful protests” in Portland: Antifa set fire in front of mayor’s condo

There’s not much to say about demorat Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler: He’s an IDIOT. You cave to the rage mob and there’s no guarantee they won’t come after you. A fool never learns that they will NEVER be satisfied.

SHOT: Ted Wheeler marching with “mostly peaceful protestors.”

CHASER: (from Monday night)

Apparently after caving to the mob (instead of trying to defeat them) the good mayor is moving. What a COWARD.

Portland businesses fleeing downtown offices due to nightly BLM riots

Demorat Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler

The City of Portland is on day 80-something of demorat-approved nightly chaos: Rioting, looting, burning buildings and people being injured. It’s a dangerous place for residents to visit.

Apparently some businesses have had enough and are packing up and leaving. From NY Post:

Large companies are fleeing offices in downtown Portland — because nightly Black Lives Matter riots are making the heart of the Oregon city a no-go area, according to a report.

“Businesses are leaving,” Andrew Hoan, president and CEO of the Portland Business Alliance (PBA), told KATU.

“The financial consequences to the downtown corridor are a running calculation that is almost impossible to wrap your mind around,” he said — with one company already saying the riots have cost $20 million in damage and lost business.

“You have blocks and blocks of plywood. You have graffiti. You have an accumulation of damages that are unrepaired, an ongoing perception that coming downtown is not a safe place,” Hoan said.

“We need to start to turn the corner now, so that this sort of irreparable damage does not last,” the business leader said.

Portland has seen regular violence and destruction during 83 consecutive nights of protests, with Tuesday once again being declared a riot as a mob smashed its way into a government building and set fires.”

Good job, demorats. Remember this in November.

This is what Portland looks like under Mayor Wheeler’s watch: Man attacks woman with handsaw, arrest interrupted by agitators

When leadership, such as that seen under Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, allows and encourages lawlessness then you can expect the mob rage to act.

Solely based on this perp’s skin color, agitators attempted to block his arrest. Bet they didn’t even know he attempted to harm two women with a handsaw. That doesn’t matter. The narrative must be followed. Watch:

The perp was arrested and, fortunately, is still being held in jail (for now).

If you have any plans to visit Portland, I’d recommend you stay far, far away.

This is what Portland looks like under Mayor Wheeler’s watch: “I don’t like it anymore””

Portland: Day 50-something of rioting by Antifa/thugs/demorats.

The result? THIS:

I lived in Portland from 1995 to 1999. Sure, we had PLENTY of liberals there at that time. They were mostly hippies who hung out on the streets dancing and smoking pot. They were harmless.

Today, not so much.

The progressive leaders allow thugs to freely roam, riot, loot, burn and destroy their cities. Thankfully, President Trump is doing something about it.

Federal agents arrived in Portland last night to stop the rioters from attacking federal property.

About time! Time to restore law and order and stop the progressive madness.

This is what Portland looks like under Mayor Wheeler’s watch

The city of Portland is on day 50-something of daily riots by ANTIFA/thugs/demorats. You may not be aware of this violence though as the mainstream media is not reporting the truth.

If you want to know what is happening there, follow Andy Ngo on Twitter. Here’s what is happening in the streets of Portland:

The feds have responded and have gone in to protect federal facilities and make arrests. Of course, this has upset the liberals. Can’t have law and order because TDS is a serious illness.

How badly infected are liberals with TDS? The Oregon Attorney General and ACLU is now suing because the feds are daring to protect their property and employees.

Mayor Ted Wheeler’s response?

Sucks to be living in Portland right now. Fox News reports that local businesses have reported $23 million in losses due to looting and rioting that have gripped its downtown area since the end of May.

Yet you guys knew that elections would have consequences. Enjoy your liberal utopia!

Liberals setting your kids up to be sitting ducks at public schools

One word for you: Homeschool.

From Yahoo: Oregon’s largest school district will no longer have police officers in its schools and joins a handful of urban districts from Minneapolis to Denver that are rethinking their school resource officer programs amid national outrage over the death of George Floyd.

Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero said Thursday that Portland Public Schools needed to “re-examine our relationship” with the police in light of protests over the death of Floyd, a handcuffed black man who died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee into his neck for nearly nine minutes.

The district of more than 49,000 students joins Minneapolis, which severed ties with its school resource officers on Tuesday. Districts in St. Paul, Minnesota and Denver are considering doing the same. Protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, have made the end of the school resource officer program in their district one of their demands.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said Thursday that he would also discontinue using school resource officers in two smaller metropolitan districts under a program that costs the city $1.6 million a year.

The move is in response to the demands of thousands of protesters, many of them young, who have filled the streets of Oregon’s largest city for six consecutive nights. Having the officers in high schools has been a touchy topic for several years in this liberal city. Students have protested in recent years for an end to the program, at one point even overwhelming a school board meeting.

“Leaders must listen and respond to community. We must disrupt the patterns of racism and injustice,” Wheeler said Thursday of the most recent demonstrations. “I am pulling police officers from schools.”

The presence of armed police officers in schools is a contentious one. While many Portland residents applauded the decision, others raised immediate concerns about student safety in the event of a school shooting or other emergency. Wheeler said the city would make sure officers could respond rapidly in an emergency.

Bloomberg’s C40 Cities group of mayors: Goal is to build a more “sustainable” and “fairer” society during Wuhan virus recovery

On Thursday Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan tweeted the following:

“I am proud to be part of @c40cities and to serve on the #COVID19 recovery task force. We know that it is going to take all of us working together to keep our residents healthy, support our workers and businesses, and rebuild our economy better than before.”

She included this tweet from something called C40 Cities:

“Today, C40 mayors released a statement of principles
to build a better, more sustainable and fairer society out of the recovery from the #COVID19 crisis
. https://bit.ly/COVIDTaskForce”

The Twitter bio of C40 Cities: C40 connects 96 of the world’s leading cities taking bold climate action to build #TheFutureWeWant. Their Twitter page brags of #InThisTogether.

What is C40 Cities (known as C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group)? From Wikipedia:

“The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group is a group of 96 cities around the world that represents one twelfth of the world’s population and one quarter of the global economy. Created and led by cities, C40 is focused on tackling climate change and driving urban action that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks, while increasing the health, wellbeing and economic opportunities of urban citizens.

As of 2019, Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti serves as the C40’s Chairperson, former Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg as President of the Board, and Mark Watts as Executive Director. All three work closely with the 13-member Steering Committee, the Board of Directors and professional staff. The rotating Steering Committee of C40 mayors provides strategic direction and governance. Steering Committee members include: Amman, Boston, Copenhagen, Durban, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Milan, Paris, Seoul, and Tokyo.”

Which mayors have formally endorsed the Statement of Principles by the Global Mayors COVID-19 Recovery Task Force? The expected libtard suspects: Stephen Adler (Austin), Bill de Blasio (NYC), London Breed (San Francisco), Jenny Durkan (Seattle), Sadiq Khan (London), Lori Lighfoot (Chiraq), Martin Walsh (Boston), and Ted Wheeler (Portland).

The task force’s web page includes the following standard progressive talking points: equitable, sustainable, fairer, social equity, etc.

It is clear that the harm caused by COVID-19 has not been equitable. We, as leaders of major cities across the globe, are clear that our ambition should not be a return to ‘normal’ – our goal is to build a better, more sustainable, more resilient and fairer society out of the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

The recovery, above all, must be guided by an adherence to public health and scientific expertise, in order to assure the safety of those who live in our cities.

The recovery must address issues of equity that have been laid bare by the impact of the crisis – for example, workers who are now recognised as essential should be celebrated and compensated accordingly and policies must support people living in informal settlements.

Climate action can help accelerate economic recovery and enhance social equity, through the use of new technologies and the creation of new industries and new jobs. These will drive wider benefits for our residents, workers, students, businesses and visitors.”

As with most progressive tactics, their goal (transfer of wealth via equity) is never aligned with the real issue (economic recovery). Never let this Wuhan virus crisis go to waste.
