Mayor Lightfoot mad at President Trump because he won’t acknowledge Chiraq shootings down 40% (depends upon your baseline stat)

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot can celebrate some sort of record?

This past Saturday Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot took issue with President Trump not recognizing some great accomplishment in her city. She tweeted this: “WATCH: Chicago shooting incidents are down sharply. But both Trump and largely the national media have been silent.”

Watch the MSNBC video here where they state that shootings are down 40% from three years ago.

The basis for their comparison claim is 2016 where Chiraq had 801 homicides and 4,380 shootings. That was a RECORD year of shootings/homicides that they have not seen in the past ten years.

Apparently the MSNBC and the good mayor are using this record-breaking year of shootings/homicides as the comparison to today’s rate to tout some improvement. But let’s take a closer look at the numbers, shall we?

Since 2014 Chiraq has averaged 2,975 shootings per year (I excluded the 2016 total as it was an anomaly). If the number of shootings were down 40%, there would have to be less than 1,785 shootings. As of Sunday morning, Chiraq had 2,736 shootings.

Since 2009 Chiraq has averaged 509 homicides per year (I excluded the 2016 total as it was an anomaly). As of Sunday morning, Chiraq had 508 homicides. So they basically have an average amount of homicides as they have every year since 2009.

So far this year in Chiraq:

2,736 shot
2,281 shot and wounded
10.6% homicide clearance rate

Clever trick for MSNBC and the good mayor to use a record-breaking year of shootings/homicides as the baseline for some great indicator that things are better in Chiraq.

I guess when you have no REAL accomplishment you have to spin the numbers so you can say #OrangeManBad.

See Chicago’s crime stats here and let me know if you really find anything you would brag about if you were the mayor of that crime-infested city.

Not going to happen in Chiraq: Mayor Lightfoot says “Change is needed”

The above video is from this past August where more than 50 people were shot over a weekend in Chiraq. The mayor stated at the time, “we have to provide real infrastructure with staying power so that these communities start to heal.”

Don’t hold your breath that the “infrastructure” (whatever that means) will arrive any time soon to save Chiraq.

Since that bloody and deadly weekend, Chiraq continues to be the “model” city for gun control:

13 people shot at Chicago house party
9 shot, 1 killed in Christmas Eve shootings across Chicago
Girl, 7, among 2 shot in Brighton Park home on Christmas

Here’s the stats for Chiraq shootings so far this year:

Shot & wounded: 2,253
Shot & killed: 452
Total homicides: 504

Keep voting demorat and change is never coming to Chiraq, even if they provide real “infrastructure.”

This Chiraq: 13 shot at beginning of weekend; 13 shot at memorial party last night

When I scheduled this post it was to report that 13 people were shot (4 fatally) in a 24-hour period at the beginning of the weekend. Then I wakeup this morning to this headline: “Chicago memorial party turns ‘chaotic’ as mass shooting wounds 13 on South Side.”

Apparently last night’s shooting at this memorial party “stemmed from a dispute inside the home.”

The Chicago Tribune reports that police are questioning 2 they say were ‘shooting randomly at people’ as they were leaving. Read their story here.

Saturday night story from MyFoxChicago: Thirteen people have been shot, four of them fatally, across Chicago since Friday evening.

The most recent fatal shooting happened Saturday in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side. A 41-year-old man was on the corner about 2:20 p.m. in the 6000 block of South Fairfield Avenue when someone walked up and fired shots at him, Chicago police said. The man was struck in the back and abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead.

The shooter ran off east on 60th Street, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not provided details about the death.

A man was shot to death Saturday morning at a home in Rogers Park on the North Side. The man, 55, was inside a residence about 4:35 a.m. in the 1600 block of West Morse Avenue when a male suspect kicked in the door and opened fire, Chicago police said. The man was shot in the face and pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t released details about his death.

Earlier, a man was killed in Grand Crossing on the South Side. The 27-year-old was standing on the sidewalk at 1:27 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Blackstone Avenue when someone shot at him from a black sedan, according to police. He was hit multiple times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released details about the death.

Another man was shot and killed Friday in Austin on the West Side. According to a witness, 44-year-old Antonio Cox opened the front door to a residential building about 9:20 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Ferdinand Street and someone unleashed gunfire, police and the medical examiner’s office said. Cox, who lived in Austin, was struck in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

Read about all the shootings here.

FYI: No one is in custody for any of the shootings as detectives continue to investigate.

This is Chiraq: 14-year-old girl hits victim with pellet gun; victim fires back using handgun & both are arrested

Couple lessons to be learned here: 1) You cannot protect yourself in strict gun-controlled Chiraq unless you have ALL the licenses THEY deem necessary (or you are a criminal and don’t care about gun control laws) and 2) Never meet anyone in person from an online transaction without a buddy in tow.

There’s a third lesson here which is the obvious: Stay far, far away from Chiraq.

From Fox News: A teenage girl who was shot in the chest in a Chicago neighborhood Friday night is now facing an attempted robbery charge after officials said she tried to rob a woman she was meeting for a sale.

The Chicago Police Department said in a news release on Saturday the incident happened around 5:45 p.m. in the city’s Little Village neighborhood, when 21-year-old Araceli Diaz met with the 14-year-old girl after the teenager arranged the meeting to buy a dog.

When the 14-year-old met up with Diaz, officials said the teen pulled out a pellet gun, struck the 21-year-old on the head with it and tried to take the dog without paying for it.

“We’re not sure where they met initially or how they communicated, but all we do know is that the 14-year-old did show up with other intentions and she pulled out a BB gun,” Chicago Police Officer Jose Jara told FOX32.

In response, Diaz then allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the girl in the chest.

Chicago Police said in a news release the 21-year-old was found to have a valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification card, or FOID card, to possess a weapon, but no concealed carry license.

Diaz was subsequently arrested in Cicero about an hour after the shooting and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.

The 14-year-old was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for her gunshot wound before she was arrested Saturday morning and charged with attempted armed robbery. She is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Dec. 9.

Chicago police said that Diaz is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.

“A BB gun can appear like a real gun and to anyone out there it’s gonna appear like a real gun, to the police, and to any individual, and if someone’s carrying and they have their own CCL they may use their own gun to defend themselves,” Jara told FOX32.

Time to celebrate! Chiraq goes one full day without a shooting

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Mayor Lightfoot must be so proud. Oh wait, they still have over 2,400 people shot this year.

Imagine living in a city where a day without a shooting warrants a headline story.

From MyFoxChicago: Chicago went more than a full day without a reported shooting, from Sunday night into early Tuesday. There were no gunshot victims from 10:02 p.m. Sunday until 12:43 a.m. Tuesday, according to Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago police records.

Fourteen people were shot on Sunday, the last of which was a 17-year-old boy wounded in Little Village on the Southwest Side.

He was inside a vehicle about 10:02 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Spaulding Avenue when a black SUV approached and someone inside fired shots, police said. The boy was struck in the leg and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in good condition.

More than 26 hours went by in Chicago without a shooting with injuries until early Tuesday.

The streak was broken at 12:43 a.m., when a 15-year-old boy was walking in West Lawn in the 7100 block of South Lawndale Avenue and heard gunfire, police said. He was shot in the lower back and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, police said.

On March 21, Chicago recorded 28 hours without a shooting victim.

The first day of 2019 without a reported shooting in Chicago was Jan. 14, although two people were hurt in accidental discharges that day.

So far in 2019, at least 407 people have been killed in gun violence in Chicago, according to Sun-Times records.

The Chicago Way: Mayor Lightfoot defends police Superintendent Johnson after FOP issues “no confidence” vote against him

Birds of a feather…(Chicago Sun Times photo)

Imagine this: You are out having a couple of drinks. You get into your car and start driving. You suddenly feel “ill” and pull over. You then fall asleep.

A cop then comes up to your car window and finds you sleeping behind the wheel.

You think that cop is going to let you go on your merry way or are you going to get a DUI?

Well, if you live in Chicago and are the police superintendent – it’s your lucky day!

On October 19, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was out at dinner and had a “couple” drinks. He then pulled over and fell asleep at a stop sign while driving home. Johnson says the incident was related to a change in his blood pressure medication. More details from The Guardian:

“Superintendent Eddie Johnson did not mention having anything to drink when he spoke to reporters on Thursday night and a department spokesman said the officers who responded to a 911 call reporting a man asleep in a car at a stop sign did not observe any signs of impairment.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday she agreed with Eddie Johnson’s decision to request an internal affairs investigation.

“It was the right thing,” Lightfoot said. “We’ll see how that plays itself out.”

The police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said: “While we have no indication of impropriety at this time, this question can only be answered by the internal affairs investigation.”

Guglielmi said on Thursday: “There were no charges of intoxication, no information of intoxication as far as I know.”

Johnson told reporters on Thursday evening he was driving home at about 12.30am after having let his driver go home, when he felt lightheaded. He said he pulled over and fell asleep.

Officers allowed him to drive home and did not administer a breathalyzer or a field sobriety test. Johnson said officers do such tests only when a motorist appears impaired or officers smell alcohol or cannabis.”

Read about the whole incident here.

A week after the incident, Mayor Lori Lightfoot was coming to his defense. According to the Chicago Tribune, Lightfoot defended Johnson’s tenure as Chicago’s top cop saying “he has sacrificed a tremendous amount for the city” even as a watchdog probes the mysterious incident where police last week found him asleep in his car.

The same day Lightfoot expressed her support for the “top cop,” the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police issued a vote of no confidence against Johnson.

Johnson boycotted the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference on the 26th where President Trump delivered a well-received speech to law enforcement. Johnson cited “personal values” as the reason he chose to boycott saying, “I have to take into account, not just my personal feelings about it, but our core values as a city. We are nothing without trust and with some of our communities under siege, it just doesn’t line up with our city’s core values along with my personal values.”

No wonder Chiraq is such a mess. With “leaders” like this, nothing will every change in that city.

Gun-controlled Chiraq: 15 people shot, 2 killed this past Tuesday

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Hey Mayor Lightfoot: Gun control laws still aren’t working in your gang- infested city.

From MyFoxChicago: Fifteen people were shot — two of them fatally — Tuesday in incidents of gun violence across Chicago, including an 18-year-old man who was gunned down in a Pilsen alleyway.

About 1:25 a.m., officers responded to calls of shots fired in the 1600 block of South Loomis Street and found Eduardo Rendon with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and chest, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Over a dozen shell casings could be observed at the scene of the shooting.

He was taken to the University of Illinois in Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. An autopsy released Tuesday found he died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.

The day’s first shooting claimed the life of a 27-year-old man in Vittum Park on the Southwest Side.
He was standing on the sidewalk about 12:45 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone walked up to him and opened fire, police said.

He was struck multiple times in the chest and rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead, police said. An autopsy released Tuesday said he died from his gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide, the medical examiner’s office said. His identity has not been released.

In non-fatal incidents, seven people were wounded in less than an hour in a series of shootings across the West Side, including four teenage males shot in West Town.

Chicago mayor tells Ted Cruz to “keep our name out of your mouth” about gun control

Bossy Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Liberals sure do love telling other people what they can and cannot speak of.

From Yahoo (via HuffPo, hence the bias): Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot issued a blistering response to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after he attempted to use the city as an example for why “gun control doesn’t work.”

Cruz on Monday, linking to a story on the far-right website Breitbart News about fatal gun violence in the city that took place over Labor Day Weekend, tweeted that “disarming law-abiding citizens isn’t the answer.”

“Stopping violent criminals—prosecuting & getting them off the street—BEFORE they commit more violent crimes is the most effective way to reduce murder rates,” he added. “Let’s protect our citizens.”

In reply, Lightfoot told Cruz to “keep our name out of your mouth.”

In the same tweet, she posted a graph (with no source cited) showing how nearly 60% of the illegal firearms that were recovered in the city between 2013 and 2016 actually came from outside Illinois.

They were, Lightfoot wrote, “mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation.”

(Do tell, good mayor, how many of those recovered guns were stolen? And stolen by repeat offenders?)

Lightfoot struck a similar harsh tone with Ivanka Trump, an adviser to and the daughter of President Donald Trump, last month after she posted an error-strewn tweet about Chicago’s gun violence.

“It’s important when we’re talking about people’s lives to actually get the facts correct, which one can easily do if you actually cared about getting it right,” Lightfoot said at the time.

—————————————————-

Senator Cruz gave it right back to the good mayor tweeting:

“1/x Mayor, your anger is misplaced. Virtually every year, Chicago has the most murders of any city in America. In 2017, the top five were: Chicago (650 murders), Baltimore (343), Philadelphia (317), New York (290), and Los Angeles (286).

2/x All five of those cities have had Democratic mayors for decades and aggressive gun control policies—none seems to be working. Your explanation (“blame Indiana!”) doesn’t hold water. There are 27 states with GOP governors. Chicago is not alone in having neighboring red states.

3/x But Chicago’s murder totals are often DOUBLE the next closest city. So how do you explain the big cities in red states, without aggressive gun control laws, where murder rates are MUCH lower than Chicago?”

See his whole response to her here.

This is Chiraq: 8 killed, 40 wounded during another weekend of violence

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

As usual, the good Chiraq mayor is silent about her city’s gang and gun violence. She’s too busy being mad at President Trump for speaking the truth about Baltimore.

From MyFoxChicago: At least 48 people were shot — eight fatally — in incidents of gun violence within city limits over the weekend.

Shootings escalated as the weekend went on: Nine people were wounded Friday after 5 p.m., 15 were shot Saturday and Sunday saw 24 people shot.

On Sunday, 3-year-old boy died from what Chicago police said may be an accidental gunshot wound in South Deering.

Family members told police they were in the another room in the 9600 block of South Escanaba when they heard a gunshot at about 4:15 p.m., CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. They rushed to see what happened and found the boy with the gun. He suffered a gunshot wound to the face, police said.

Family members took the boy to Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Guglielmi said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t provided details about his death.

The Department of Children and Family Services has been called in to assist police investigations, Guglielmi said.

Last weekend, shootings left three dead and 40 others wounded.

Chiraq Mayor Lightfoot caught on hot mic calling police union leader a clown

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

What a role model leader you elected, Chiraq.

From MyFoxChicago: Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was caught on a microphone insulting a police union leader aloud on Wednesday.

It’s no secret that Mayor Lightfoot does not get along with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP).

However, it was still surprising when, during the City Council meeting, she was caught on a microphone insulting the group’s second in command.

As Patrick Murray got up to speak, Lightfoot could be heard saying, “oh, back again, this FOP clown.”

The mayor later said she should not have made the remarks out loud.

Murray was at the council meeting to support the officers who were fired by the police board last week for their involvement in the Laquan McDonald shooting.

The FOP released a statement saying the remark is, “a misguided and dangerous thing to say to a 30-year veteran police officer, particularly at a time when the city is facing such chronic violent crime.”

Last month, Murray accused the mayor of not including the police union on discussions involving public safety and police reform. The mayor accused him of trying to block those reforms.
