Mayor de Blasio to fine people who refuse to wear masks

From The Guardian: New York City will impose fines on people who refuse to wear a face covering in public, Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Tuesday, as he announced that the rate of positive tests for the coronavirus had climbed above 3% in the city for the first time in months.

The latest citywide daily positive test rate was 3.25%, De Blasio said, a rise attributed in part to nine zip codes city health officials say have seen worrying increases in cases. In some hotspots the positivity rate was 17%.

De Blasio said officials would first offer free masks to anyone caught not wearing one. If the person refuses, the mayor told reporters, they will face an unspecified fine. “Our goal, of course, is to give everyone a free face mask,” the mayor said. “We don’t want to fine people, but if we have to we will.”

In the first surge of the pandemic, in March and April, New York became not just the US hotspot but the world leader for coronavirus cases. City and state officials are anxious not to see the progress of recent months go to waste.

More than 7 million people have been infected in the US and more than 200,000 have died. According to Johns Hopkins University, New York state has recorded more than 450,000 cases and more than 25,000 deaths.

The new rule on masks extends across the city and echoes a policy imposed this month by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is controlled by the New York governor, Andrew Cuomo.

Under that policy, commuters who refuse to wear a mask on public transit such as buses, trains and the subway system face a $50 fine.

On Tuesday, De Blasio said the seven-day rolling Covid-19 positivity average remained at 1.38%, though he added that this week the citywide average had risen to 3%.

“For the first time in months, you’re going to see a daily number over 3%,” De Blasio said. “Obviously, everyone is concerned about that. That is something we all have to work on together to address and something that says to us we have to be on high alert to make sure we fight back this challenge.”

NYC under democrat control: City hits milestone as shootings top 1,000 for the year

No wonder there’s a mass exodus from that demorat-run city.

From NY Post: The city surpassed 1,000 shootings for the year on Sunday, according to NYPD data, which also shows an average of nearly 10 people fell victim to gun violence each day over the last four weeks.

With four more months left in 2020, New York City logged 1,004 shootings as of Aug. 30, according to NYPD data released Monday. Last year, there had been just 537 by that time.

It is the first time the city has eclipsed the benchmark in gun violence since 2015, when 1,138 shootings were recorded for the entire year.

“Mr. Mayor, it is time to stop calling New York the safest big city,” a Brooklyn cop quipped to The Post.

The notable number comes a week before Labor Day, when cops expect another bloody holiday weekend in the Big Apple.

The city has seen 13 straight weeks of surging gun violence — with 375 more shootings and 499 more victims compared to the same time last year.

There were 277 shooting victims logged over the 28 days ending Aug. 30 — meaning on average, nearly 10 people per day were shot, NYPD data shows.

Just 6% of reported US pandemic deaths were due SOLELY to Wuhan virus (bonus: 90% who test positive are no longer contagious?)

At the onset of the Wuhan virus the media and demorat politicians downplayed it because they were too busy with the Senate trial of the impeachment of President Trump.

In February Nancy Pelosi was out encouraging people to visit Chinatown to “end the discrimination” against Asian Americans after the outbreak of the Wuhan virus.

Mayor Bill de Blasio was encouraging the city’s residents in February to support Asian American businesses, declaring one of the city’s major Chinese neighborhoods “open for business” to counter racist fear-mongering about the new coronavirus.

Then the Senate trail came and went and #OrangeManBad was still in office. Time for the media and demorats to find another way to take down President Trump.

Lo and behold, the Wuhan virus all of a sudden was going to kill all of us!

But how much of what the media and demorats are feeding us is really true? I suspect YOU know the answer to that question.

Take a look at this little nugget of information that is NOT being reported by the media.

From the CDC web site, dated 8/26/20:

Comorbidities: Table 3 shows the types of health conditions and contributing causes mentioned in conjunction with deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death. The number of deaths with each condition or cause is shown for all deaths and by age groups.”

You can see all their data here.

So only 6% of the reported deaths (161,392) actually died from only the Wuhan virus. That is 9,683 deaths. The rest of the reported deaths had 2 or more pre-existing serious illnesses. This means that those without comorbidities have very low chance of dying.

And look at the miniscule percentage of deaths for the school-age children. Why are many schools still closed?

I’m no “medical expert” nor a bureaucrat yet I can see that there has been a lot of manipulation in the media and politically-driven fearmongering with this virus. There’s also the fact that hospitals and testing companies receive more money when tests are positive and cases are confirmed.

No wonder no one trust the media nor the numbers surrounding the Wuhan virus infections and deaths.

PS: Just saw this last night: “NYT: Up to 90% of people who test positive for COVID-19 are no longer contagious and don’t need to isolate.”

From the Twitchy story: “We may have been testing the wrong way.”

Great job, medical “experts!”

This is what NYC looks like under de Blasio’s watch: 176% increase in shootings last week, compared to last year

As I previously stated, when you have demorat “leaders” who support lawlessness, defunding the police and “criminal justice reform,” you can expect no consequences for illegal behaviors. And you can expect more of them.

Such as this, from NY Post: NYC’s 47 shootings last week are 176 percent increase since last year.”

Last week the city had 47 shootings compared with 17 during the same time period the year before. The 47 shootings included 14 murders. You can read all the shooting details in the link above.

The good mayor supported defunding the NYPD by $1 billion so don’t expect more resources to be put in place to address this uptick in violence.

Good luck, NYC. You’re going to need it.

Paging BLM: Black Leaders Call on NYPD to Bring Back Anti-Crime Unit as Shootings Spike

From Yahoo:

Leaders in the black community are calling on the New York Police Department to bring back the plainclothes Anti-Crime Unit that was eliminated last month as shootings and murders spike across the city.

About 600 undercover officers from the unit were set to be transferred to other assignments including detective work and policing neighborhoods, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said a month ago. The anti-crime unit, which was responsible for getting guns off the streets, had been criticized as stoking distrust in law enforcement in minority communities.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, one of the African-American voices calling for action on gun violence, criticized the police force’s decision to completely disband the unit. He deplored the recent deadly shooting of a one-year-old, one of the victims of New York City’s recent spike in gun violence.

“I think that a total elimination is something we need to reevaluate,” Adams said, CBS New York reported. “Right now, bad guys are saying if you don’t see a blue and white you can do whatever you want.”

Tony Herbert, an activist in New York’s black community, agreed and lamented the rise in violence, criticizing New York officials for their failure to address the situation.

“The guns keep going off and now we have a 1-year-old and the blood is on the hands of the mayor and the state Legislature,” Herbert said.

The decision to disband the anti-crime unit was also panned by Police Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch, who warned that consequences would follow if city leaders refused to deal with increased gun violence.

“Anti-Crime’s mission was to protect New Yorkers by proactively preventing crime, especially gun violence,” Lynch said in a statement. “Shooting and murders are both climbing steadily upward, but our city leaders have decided that proactive policing isn’t a priority anymore. They chose this strategy. They will have to reckon with the consequences.”

The city’s murder rate for the month ending June 7 has more than doubled from the same period last year, and shooting victims have increased by 45 percent. Meanwhile, arrests for illegal gun possession have dropped dramatically, with only 29 people arrested during the week that ended July 5, down from 70 during the same week last year, according to NYPD data.

In recent weeks, the NYPD has experienced a surge of over 400 percent in retirement applications from officers amid tensions with city officials and after the city’s police budget was slashed by $1 billion.”

Good News! Shops sue NY gov. Cuomo over looting; Robert De Niro’s finances ‘decimated’ by coronavirus

Amidst the depressing news, there is some good news.

Here are two. 😀

(1) Cindy Adams reports for Page Six, July 7, 2020, that NYC’s tony Madison Ave. stores are suing Gov. Andrew Cuomo for not protecting the businesses against looting.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has nipple rings. New York must be proud.

The plaintiffs, Domus Design Center aka DDC, 134 Madison Ave., have filed a class action lawsuit with the Court of Claims for an estimated $400 million, against Cuomo, NY mayor Bill de Blasio, the NYPD, Commissioner Dermot Shea, NYC, the state of New York “and others.”

The looting took place on the night of May 29, 2020, when George Floyd #BLM rioters terrorized the city, and vandalized and burglarized shops.

The plaintiffs’ lawyer Sal Strazzullo said:

“Cuomo should have worried about hospital reform instead of bail reform. Getting a free pass, some criminals were not able to be detained pending trial and now we have looters. Who’d have imagined we’d have to board up our stores? We’re not in Afghanistan. Places like Saks Fifth, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Rolex being bombed out?

Where are our tax dollars going? Rocks, bricks thrown? Glass smashed? Merchandise stolen? Thrown out? People hurt? Millions lost? Businesses destroyed? Lives crushed? Not protecting commercial properties is negligence of duty. It’s looters against New York City and state. Paying taxes that help pay the salary of the NYPD, we expect protection in return. Where was the city? The state? Officials failing to protect their residents? Government is responsible to protect its citizens and businesses against criminals who want to do bad.

Not every lawsuit is for money. This type of suit — about the city’s acts and omissions in failing to control or otherwise restrain violent protesters, which caused destruction to claimant’s retail store — is for a point. This will be a class-action lawsuit. Costly. Because the others will come on board.”

(2) Rabid anti-Trump actor Robert De Niro said the COVID-19 coronavirus had “decimated” his finances.

Priscilla DeGregory reports for Page Six, July 9, 2020, that appearing in a Skype call in his divorce case against Grace Hightower, De Niro told the court the coronavirus had “decimated” his finances.

De Niro has a thing for black women. In 2018, he filed for divorce from Hightower, with whom he had been on-and-off since 1997.

Hightower is asking for an emergency order to to raise her monthly American Express card credit limit from $50,000 to $100,000. She claims De Niro had unfairly cut the allowance, and hat she and their two children had been banned from an upstate compound where De Niro is staying during the pandemic.

De Niro’s lawyer Caroline Krauss said he cut Hightower’s credit card limit because he’s taken a huge financial hit as the restaurant chain Nobu and Greenwich Hotel, both of which he has stakes in, have been closed or partially closed for months with barely any business:

In the case of Nobu, the restaurant chain lost $3 million in April and another $1.87 million in May. That led to De Niro having to pay investors $500,000 on a capital call, for which he had to borrow money from his business partners  “because he doesn’t have the cash.”

Krauss said that under the terms of their 2004 prenuptial agreement, De Niro is only required to pay Hightower $1 million a year as long as he’s making $15 million or more in income. If his income declines, his payments to her would proportionally decline as well. But Krauss said De Niro is “lucky if he makes $7.5 million this year” because:

  • Proceeds from the Netflix movie, The Irishman, have mostly already been paid out and De Niro is likely to get just $2.5 million in 2020 and 2021. (If you subscribe to Netflix, be sure to not watch The Irishman!)
  • A movie project that De Niro was scheduled to begin filming this summer in Oklahoma has been put on hold.

Krauss said that De Niro has begun “dramatically” cutting back spending, and that people like him, “in spite of his robust earnings, have always spent more than he has earned so this 76-year-old robust man couldn’t retire even if he wanted to because he can’t afford to keep up with his lifestyle expense.”

Hightower’s lawyer, Kevin McDonough, pooh-poohs the notion that De Niro’s finances are decimated and that “the idea that Mr. De Niro is tightening his belt is nonsense.”

Shocker, not: Shootings surge in NYC amid disbanding of NYPD’s plainclothes anti-crime unit

As if no one could have predicted this…

From NY Post:

Shootings are surging this week in New York City, with 28 incidents and 38 victims reported since Monday — the day the NYPD disbanded its plainclothes anti-crime unit, The Post learned on Friday.

By comparison, the same week last year there were only 12 shootings for the entire week.

“This is what the politicians wanted — no bail, nobody in Rikers, cops not arresting anyone,” one angry law enforcement source said Friday.

“All those things equal people walking around on the street with guns, shooting each other.”

The shooting spree includes at least five murders, sources told The Post.”
