Raiders’ Marshawn Lynch sat during US anthem yet stood for Mexican anthem

This from the guy who sported an “Everybody vs. Trump” t-shirt and during a pre-season game, sat on a cooler eating a banana during the National Anthem. ‘Nuff said.

From Q13Fox: Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat during most of U.S. anthem and stood for the Mexican anthem before their game against the Patriots at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Lynch has not stood for the national anthem since returning from retirement this season.

There did not appear to be any other protests during the anthem as the afternoon games kicked off.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick pioneered the protests last year when he took a knee during the playing of the national anthem over what he said was social and racial injustice.

This year, several NFL players have joined the protest including Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett.

Actually it is the “NFL vs. fans.” Apparently Lynch hasn’t seen the NFL ratings lately.

From Yahoo: Marshawn Lynch was one of the first players in the 2017 season to sit during the national anthem. While other players noted that the protests were to highlight racial injustice and police brutality, Lynch never indicated why he was sitting.

Sunday afternoon, in the wake of a second round of NFL protests, the Oakland Raiders RB made his perspective clear, arriving at Sports Authority Field in Denver wearing a shirt that read, “EVERYBODY VS TRUMP.”

The reference, of course, is to the ongoing protests in the NFL which began as demonstrations during the national anthem but have expanded to a direct repudiation of President Donald Trump himself. Trump has repeatedly criticized both the NFL and its players over the past 10 days, firing off dozens of tweets such as this one from Saturday night:

Very important that NFL players STAND tomorrow, and always, for the playing of our National Anthem. Respect our Flag and our Country!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2017

An ESPN report published early Sunday morning noted that the owners spent much of the week trying to figure a way out of this quagmire, and that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has worked to build unity in the NFL, both along the sidelines and between players and owners.

But it’s clear that many players aren’t quite ready to make nice, moving on and focusing primarily on football. Nor, for that matter, is Trump, who’s continued to hammer away at the NFL all week. As much as owners and fans would like to see the focus return to football, that’s not happening just yet.

Missouri bar using “Lynch” and “Kaepernick” jerseys as doormats

From KOMU: A Lake of the Ozarks bar owner was taking heat Tuesday for what at least one passer-by saw as a racist doormat out front.

“It’s not a race thing,” said Jason Burle, who owns the S.N.A.F.U Bar near the Bagnell Dam. “A lot of people want to twist it around to be a race thing.”

Burle said he ordered two NFL jerseys to be used as doormats outside his bar after NFL players started kneeling during the national anthem at football games.

“We pulled them out of the box, taped them down. There was no ill-intent,” Burle said.

Burle used the jerseys of NFL players Marshawn Lynch and Colin Kaepernick. When placed side-by-side, the jerseys read “Lynch” “Kaepernick.”

“If someone thinks that I mean personal harm to someone, they don’t know me,” Burle said.

But that’s what crossed Taylor Sloan’s mind when he saw the jerseys outside Burle’s bar over the weekend.

“That’s not the Missouri I know,” Sloan said. “It just kind of upset me really bad. Put a bad taste in my mouth.”

Sloan posted on the bar’s Facebook page. He and Burle had a heated exchange online.

Sloan wrote on the page, “You are also expressing hate, violence and continuing American racism under the faux guise of patriotism.”

Burle responded, “It’s funny to me that someone would look that far deeply into it just to find a racist link.”

Burle told KOMU the doormat is about standing up for himself and his family, many of whom served in the military. Burle spent six years in the Air Force. Seeing NFL players kneel during the national anthem didn’t sit well with him.

“A lot of us military folks take that personal to heart,” Burle said.

Nation Anthem protestor Marshawn Lynch to get new reality show on Facebook

Marshawn Lynch is a NFL player who plays for the Oakland Raiders. I reported back in August that at the Oakland Raiders’ pre-season opener in Arizona, Marshawn Lynch didn’t stand during the National Anthem. He sat on a cooler eating a banana.

From my post:

Lynch previously backed Kaepernick, telling comedian Conan O’Brien in September 2016, “I’d rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up and get murdered.”

“If you’re really not racist then you won’t see what he done, what he’s doing, as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem that we have,” Lynch said at the time.”

Facebook is rewarding him for his antics. Another show I won’t be watching.

From Seattle Times: Can’t get enough of Marshawn Lynch, the former Seattle Seahawks running back who now plays for some team in California? Well, you can soon watch him in a new reality show that will reportedly debut on Facebook’s recently launched Watch platformaccording to Reuters.

The news service reported that the social-media giant — which launched its new platform for U.S. users in August — is paying Time Warner’s Bleacher Report millions of dollars for the reality show featuring the Skittles-loving NFL player known as Beast Mode. The show, called “No Script,” consists of eight 10- to 15-minute mini-episodes featuring Lynch involved in various hijinks. The first episode will reportedly feature Lynch taking race-car driving lessons “until he ruins the tires of the car.”

Facebook’s purchase of the show, which will reportedly start streaming this month, underscores the intense battle among web-based media companies for original content and for viewers, Reuters reported.

“We think we have a big hit on our hands,” Rory Brown, president of Bleacher Report, told Reuters. “People are going to spend more time on Facebook because of it.”

Oakland Raiders have their own Kaepernick: Marshawn Lynch

Another NFL season I won’t be watching.

From Fox News: Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch sat during the national anthem over the weekend, ahead of a Saturday preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, the AP reports.

The NFL player was photographed on top of an orange cooler with a banana in Glendale, Ariz.

Last year, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sat and kneeled during the national anthem and protested police brutality.

Lynch previously backed Kaepernick, telling comedian Conan O’Brien in September 2016, “I’d rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up and get murdered.”

“If you’re really not racist then you won’t see what he done, what he’s doing, as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem that we have,” Lynch said at the time.

Raiders coach Jack Del Rio says he didn’t know about Lynch’s plans ahead of the game, according to NFL.com.

“On Marshawn, talked to Marshawn trying to make sure we’re on the same page,” the coach said. “He said, ‘This is something I’ve done for 11 years. It’s not a form of anything other than me being myself.’ I said, ‘So you understand how I feel, I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem. But I’m going to respect you as a man, you do your thing. We’ll do ours.’ It’s a non-issue for me.”
