Failure on so many levels: Millennials are signing up for “Adulting” classes

Failure on the parents’ part, public education and at the individual level. I also blame social media.

But I bet “Julia” and “Pajama Boy” are proud…

From CBS New York: Millennials lacking life skills — like cooking, budgeting, or time management — are now signing up for classes designed to teach them those basics.

The trend gives young people a crash courses on adulting, CBS News’ Laura Podesta reported Wednesday.

At a cooking class in Queens, 29-year-old Elena Toumaras said she’s finally learning skills she wishes she’d been taught years ago.

“I don’t know, I was so used to when living at home, my mom always cooking,” she said. “Doing simple things now that I’m on my own, I’m struggling with it.”

She’s not alone. The number of classes geared toward teaching adults how to “adult” is growing.

Rachel Flehinger is the co-founded the aptly named “Adulting School” in Portland, Maine.

This month she’s launching online classes geared toward millennials anywhere who want to know how to sew a button, understand modern art or tell someone they love them.

“How to have a relationship, how to talk to someone, conflict resolution — how not to fight,” Flehinger said.

Experts say millennials are behind because many haven’t left childhood homes. The U.S. Census Bureau said in 2015, 34 percent of Americans between 18 and 34 still lived with a parent. That’s compared to just 26 percent in 2005.

“It’s more common than living with roommates and more common than living with a spouse,” demographer Jonathan Vespa said.

That translates into young adults marrying later, having children later and ultimately figuring out those crucial life skills later, too.

“I’m always surprised about people not knowing what I think are the simple things as far as knife skills, or flavors that go together,” said Kim Calichio of TheConnectedChef.com.

Calichio said she’s happy to keep teaching classes to help millennials catch up in the kitchen — better late than never.

Maine demorat representative calls Trump supporters racist and dumbasses and bonus – he threatened Trump

scott hamann facebook rant
This rant comes from Scott Hamann, a Democratic member of the Maine House of Representatives, representing District 31. He was first elected to the chamber in 2012.
On Facebook he went off on Trump and his supporters. Of course, he’s apologized so his party will forgive him. I doubt the Secret Service will be so quick to forgive his “sarcasm.”
From WMTW: Rep. Scott Hamann, (D) South Portland, is apologizing for an obscene Facebook post criticizing President Trump and his supporters.
“I regret my impulsive decision to post something aggressively sarcastic and inappropriate in a Facebook exchange with a childhood friend. While the tone of the post was born out of frustration with the vile language currently surrounding politics, I should not have responded with the same language,” Hamann wrote in a statement.
Hamann wrote, “Trump is a half-term President, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that p**sy.” The post also criticized the president for his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G 20 Summit and the Access Hollywood tape where President Trump made the comment about grabbing women by their genitalia.
Maine GOP Chair Demi Kouzounas was quick to respond to the post.
“Words cannot even begin to describe the level of revulsion I feel after reading Representative Scott Hamann’s recent tirade that has come to light. Perhaps the most alarming aspect of this tirade is an implied death threat against our President,” Kouzounas wrote. He went on to call the comments, “unhinged and dangerous.” He’s calling on Maine Speaker of the House Sarah Gideon (D-Freeport) to take action.
Hamann’s apology made no reference to the comment about President Trump being a half-term president.

Augusta School Department Punishes Employee for Telling Coworker, "I will pray for you"

serious
Unbelievable.
From Yahoo: (AUGUSTA, Maine/RNewswire-USNewswire) Toni Richardson, an educational technician employed by the Augusta School Department, filed charges of religious discrimination and retaliation yesterday with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) after being instructed to never use phrases like, “I will pray for you” and “you were in my prayers” in private conversations with coworkers.  A copy of the charge is available here.
“What Augusta Public Schools did by punishing Toni for discussing her faith in a private conversation with a coworker is unconscionable,” said Timothy Woodcock of the Maine law firm Eaton Peabody. “The law is clear: employers cannot discriminate against employees who privately discuss their faith while at work.”
Toni tried to privately encourage a coworker—with whom she attends church—by saying, “I will pray for you.”  Even though the coworker thanked Toni, the Augusta Schools Department interrogated her, asking whether she had ever identified herself to coworkers as a Christian or privately told a colleague she was praying for him. Later, she received an official “coaching memorandum,” explaining that she could not use “phrases that integrate public and private belief systems” while at schoolThe memo specifically explains that she will face discipline or dismissal in the future for using phrases like, “I will pray for you” and “you were in my prayers” in private conversations with colleagues at work.
“I was shocked that my employer punished me for privately telling a coworker, ‘I will pray for you,'” Toni Richardson says, “I am afraid that I will lose my job if someone hears me privately discussing my faith with a coworker.”
“No one should be threatened with losing their job for privately telling a coworker, ‘I will pray for you,'” Jeremy Dys, Senior Counsel for First Liberty Institute, says. “School employees are not required to hide their faith from each other while on campus.”

Staff members taunt student in pro-Trump hat at South Portland High in Maine

The mission statement from the South Portland High School web site:
“The South Portland High School community believes that all students are able to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for post-secondary education, career, and citizenship. Toward that goal, every student will graduate as a capable learner who is able to think critically and produce quality work.”
Apparently, critical thinking is not allowed if you support a different candidate.

Connor Mullen Twitter photo

Connor Mullen Twitter photo

From the Coed.com: Connor Mullen is a high schooler from Portland, Maine. Based on his social media alone, he seems to be a relatively “normal” high school kid. But he’s currently making waves in the media after wearing a Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat to school. Seems harmless, right? I mean, it’s a hat — he wasn’t burning people at the stake. But alas, that didn’t stop students and teachers from bullying him relentlessly when he wore it.
“I knew kids would pick on me about it, that’s just kids being kids, but when the adults started doing it I thought that’s problematic,” Mullen recently told the Press Herald. “This is a school that preaches equality.”
Unfortunately, it’s less than surprising. NYU students recently came out quoting similar concerns — they hid their political agenda from students and teachers in an effort to not be the center of political crossfire. But with the primaries and debates constantly being mainstreamed by local media, how could you keep your opinion to yourself? And why should you be degraded by others when you don’t?
According to Mullen, the bullying has been going on for quite some time — students have repeatedly knocked the hat off of his head and even thrown it in the garbage. A teacher even got in the middle of everything and berated him, saying “Thank God you can’t vote.”
Yikes. Teachers too? It’s literally your job to not declare your opinions in front of your students. Yet despite the incessant ridicule, Mullen refuses to not stop wearing the hat.
FYI: Here’s the contact information for the principal, Ryan Caron, of South Portland High School.

Ebola Nurse Kaci Hickox Not Quite Playing By The Rules. UPDATE!!!!!!!

If you read the beginning of this story when she arrived at the airport they were pretty rude. Then forced her into Tented isolation for a day or two. I know she just came back from Obamaloville, but she had no signs what so ever.
OK so I could see her being a bit cranky about that. But seems to me she is now flaunting some supposed “self quarantine” deal she had made. Sure she’s not symptomatic. No one is….until they start spewing forth noxious crap from satan himself. So do you think she should just resume her life, or maybe kick back and catch up on Netflix? I hate the idea of the Gov starting to order mandatory isolation’s. Let me know what you think. Thanks,

 Steve

UPDATE!!!!    11-1 2014

Big H/T To Reader Lola For Story Link
According to https://freedomoutpost.com/  our little miss sunshine has lied.

Quarantined Nurse Kaci Hickox Misled Public – Works for CDC – Her Attorney was White House Visitor & Tied to Al Sharpton.
Now why does this not surprise me?

She has also opened herself up for the destruction of her career. This is copied from the article at Freedom outpost.
“Anyone may file a complaint against a nurse for violation of the Nurse Practice Act. Normally, the complaints are filed by colleagues, other nurses or physicians. However, with the actions of Ms. Hickox out in the open, the general public has every reason to question this nurses’ ability to follow any nurse practice act which indicates that the professional registered nurse has a duty to public health safety.
Maybe Ms. Hickox should have thought all of this through before opening her mouth and engaging in making herself a media spectacle. It’s possible that Ms. Hickox was willing to sacrifice her career in exchange for fame, millions of dollars or both in order to undermine the public health safety at the behest of the CDC. Should that be the case, Ms. Hickox should be ashamed to call herself a professional nurse.
If anyone would like to lodge a complaint against Ms. Hickox for unprofessional conduct and violations of standard professional conduct, the address for both Texas and Maine Nursing Boards are listed below.”
So if you would like to give her a hand with the professional suicide she seems to crave , please email and please be polite..   Steve

‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone’: Governor threatens to arrest Ebola nurse after she defied quarantine to go for a bike ride and order pizza

  • Nurse Kaci Hickox and her boyfriend Ted Wilbur left their home on Thursday morning with their bikes for an hour-long ride
  • The 33-year-old said: ‘There is nothing to stop me from going for a bike ride in my home town’
  • Governor Paul LePage said: ‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone’
  • Demanded that she take a blood test and threatened to arrest her
  • She spoke to the press outside the home in Fort Kent, Maine, on Wednesday night, saying she will continue to fight the Ebola quarantine
  • Hickox shook the hand of MailOnline’s reporter at the scene and said: ‘You could hug me. You could shake my hand. I would not give you Ebola’

The Governor of Maine has threatened to arrest Nurse Kaci Hickox after she broke the state’s mandatory Ebola quarantine by saying: ‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone.’

The 33-year-old, who tested negative for the deadly disease earlier this week, defied the guidelines by going on a bike ride with partner Ted Wilbur.

Later in the day, the pair also had a pepperoni and mushroom pizza delivered to their home in Fort Kent, Maine, before settling down to watch The Avengers film.

Her actions enraged Governor Paul LePage with lawyers from the state going to court to demand the nurse give a blood test.

‘This could be resolved today. She has been exposed and she’s not cooperative, so force her to take a test. It’s so simple’ he told ABC.

He also condemned the nurse for worrying her community by venturing out, breaking the 21-day quarantine period and announced he would ‘exercise the full extent of his authority’ to rein her in.

GovernorPaulLePage has said he will ‘exercise the full extent of his authority’ to rein the nurse in and has insisted: ‘I don’t want her to be within three feet of anyone’

The 33-year-old nurse went on a bike ride with her partner Ted Wilbur this morning as she defied the mandatory Ebola quarantine placed on her by the state of Maine

Later in the day the pair had a pizza delivered to their home Fort Kent, Maine, and waved to the waiting media as they opened the door

Miss Hickox broke her quarantine at 9am and took an ATV trail behind her home for the hour-long ride. A state trooper who had been stationed outside the house followed her in a police cruiser.

‘It’s just good to be out,’ Miss Hickox told MailOnline as she left.

Maine police were monitoring her movements and public interactions but there was no court order to arrest the nurse.

As she returned home, she said: ‘There is no court action against me. There is nothing to stop me from going for a bike ride in my home town.’

Hickox said that she had not spoken to her lawyers about the ride and it was her decision to go out and get exercise after a day of being cooped up in her house.

The state trooper who followed them by car said he was just monitoring Miss Hickox’s actions and had no intention of arresting her.

The nurse did not say whether she would venture outside again on Thursday, adding that she had to return home to prepare for her daily temperature check for Ebola symptoms from the state’s Center for Disease Control.

Wilbur said the couple deliberately chose to ride their bikes on a 16-mile trail away from town to minimize their chances of bumping into people who might fear that they could catch Ebola from them.

‘We went the way we did and not through the town. We did not go to the grocery store.

‘We are not trying to get anyone sick — we don’t believe we can get anyone sick — and we are not trying to put anyone at risk,’ he said.

Fort Kent police chief Tom Pelletier called in the house and offered to bring the couple anything they need to lessen the need for them to go into town, Wilbur added.

Wilbur, a nursing student at the University of Maine at Fort Kent pointed out that it is not just aid workers whose lives are turned upside down by the quarantine rules but their families too. ‘I am not able to go to school.

‘If we had children they probably wouldn’t be able to go to school. I have an exam Monday that I am not allowed to take and an assignment I cannot turn in.’

The university said he ‘voluntarily’ agreed not to attend classes, but Wilbur said: ‘It’s voluntary if you count that as people saying “Do you agree you can’t come to class?” and I say “Do I have a choice?” and they say: “No” and I say: “Well I agree then.” ‘

Hickox contends there is no need for quarantine because she’s showing no symptoms.

According to Ebola experts, a blood test for Ebola would only be positive if Hickox was displaying symptoms of the virus – which she says she is not.

The Ebola virus is only detectable in the blood if the disease has significantly progressed.

Miss Hickcox has not made it clear whether she would or would not be agree to taking a blood test.

LePage later added that the nurse was causing a lot of tension and worry in the community of Fort Kent.

‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone,’ LePage told NBC.

On Wednesday night, Miss Hickox left the home she has been ordered to stay inside for 21 days in order to speak with the press about her ‘frustrating’ situation.

Missing Man Walks Up To News Crew Reporting On … Missing Man

You Just Have To Love Happy Endings.

local television news crew reporting on a missing Maine man found him as they were about to shoot a live update near his home.

Timing is Everything.

Timing is Everything. 😆

Robert McDonough, a 73-year-old who suffers from dementia, had been missing for more than 14 hours when he walked past the WMTW News 8 crew camped out on the side of his road in rural Limington.

News 8 reporter Norm Karkos was preparing to deliver a live report on “News 8 This Morning” early Tuesday when McDonough walked into the frame. Karkos did not immediately recognize McDonough, who then identified himself to the stunned TV crew. They notified the Maine Warden Service, which had been searching for McDonough since late Monday afternoon.
The game wardens said they were just about to ramp up their search for McDonough when he returned home.
The man appeared to be in good condition, although Karkos said he spotted “some blood on McDonough’s hand.”

Charlotte Iserbyt's Video with PDF Transcript is Here!

Earlier this year Alex Jones sent a camera crew to Maine to meet with Charlotte Iserbyt, Senior Policy Advisor at the Dept of Education in the first Reagan administration.   When she saw what was going on in the belly of the beast, she blew the whistle.

Transcript of Video: Charlotte Iserbyt- America’s Road to Ruin
She has two websites with the pdf files of many of the documents mentioned in the video:
https://www.deliberatedumbingdown.com/pages/pdf_downloads.html
https://www.americandeception.com/index.php?page=home
This transcript is invaluable because it’s in searchable PDF format.  So much information is presented.   Pretty juicy!
Also from Charlotte regarding Agenda 21:
We are starting a project in Maine, a bumper sticker project, which will tell it like it is:  regionalism is communism, and we will have a small hammer and sickle after regionalism.  We hope other states will follow.  They can use other words if they wish, but always the word communism and the hammer and sickle.  I.E.,  Land use regulations are communism; sustainable development is communism; regionalism is communism;  reinventing government is communism; restructuring is communism; perestroika is communism.
