This is Hollyweird: HBO to staff all sex scenes with “Intimacy Coordinator”

Maggie Gyllenhaal (r) stars in The Deuce

This somehow gets spun into “female empowerment.”

Let’s just call it what it is: People watching/acting pretend sex on camera for big bucks.

About this HBO show, The Deuce:

“The Deuce features an ensemble cast that includes James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It tells the story of the legalization and ensuing rise of the porn industry in New York City beginning in the 1970s. Themes explored include government and police corruption, the violence of the drug epidemic, and the resulting real-estate booms and busts that coincided with the change. The show’s title is derived from the nickname for 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue.”

From Hollywood Reporter: After the second season of The Deuce piloted the practice, HBO decided to staff every one of its television shows and films that have intimate scenes going forward with an intimacy coordinator.

The network on Thursday announced its decision via its public relations Twitter account after Rolling Stone published a story about the pay cable network’s work with Deuce intimacy coordinator Alicia Rodis. “As reported in @RollingStone, all @HBO programs with intimate scenes will be staffed by an intimacy coordinator,” HBO PR tweeted.

Since working on The Deuce, a series about the burgeoning porn industry in New York in the 1970s, Rodis has worked on intimate scenes on Crashing, the upcoming Watchmen series and the Deadwood movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Rodis is additionally training new intimacy coordinators to be on hand during the production of the upcoming crime drama Jett and the Drake executive-produced high school series Euphoria

The Deuce star Emily Meade, who plays the prostitute turned porn star Lori on the show, initiated Rodis’ initial hire when she asked the show’s co-creators and HBO for an “advocate purely for sexual scenes,” as she told HBO’s Ashley Morton in an interview. Following the onset of the #MeToo movement, Meade began questioning why stunt coordinators were nearly always on hand for small stunts, but no one had been enlisted to protect those involved in sex scenes.

“When it comes to sexuality, which is one of the most vulnerable things for all humans, men and women, there’s really no system. There’s never been a person required to be there to protect and bring expertise,” she said.

HBO found Rodis via her two-year-old nonprofit Intimacy Directors International, which aims to codify standards for sex scenes in theater and film and protect against sexual abuse on-set. Deuce co-creator David Simon has since told Rolling Stone that he will never work without an intimacy coordinator again.

“Because the truth is, we knew we were asking a lot of actors and directors and crew in terms of professionalism and to deliver this material bluntly and honestly. But you can ask all you want — at a certain point everybody has to trust everybody,” he said.

Rodis’ role on the show initially made headlines when The New York Times published an opinion story from an actress who had played a “female prison guard” in an X-rated movie on The Deuce and worked with Rodis.

“Ms. Rodis made sure I realized what was coming across on camera. I did, and kept going; it was a choice I felt empowered to make,” the author, Margaret Judson, wrote.

New Yorker Festival drops Bannon from lineup amid backlash from TDS-infected celebrities

Some of these celebrities who have butt hurt about Bannon are people who have a platform to trash others who aren’t of the same political persuasion:

  • Jim Carrey: Uses his “art” to trash Sarah Huckabee Sander’s looks and religion
  • Judd Apatow: Used profanity in a stand-up gig to trash Melania and Barron Trump
  • Patton Oswalt: Retweeted about the “long list of targets” that terrorists have when it comes to then- President-elect Donald Trump’s worldwide holdings. “Trump has properties all over the world. Terrorists will have a long list of targets that are literally owned by POTUS and bear his name,” a Twitter use wrote. Oswalt responded by retweeting the tweet and adding, “Holy f–k. Come ‘n’ get it, terrorists!”

More hypocrisy and intolerance from “the tolerant” left.

From Hollywood Reporter: After news that Steve Bannon will be a featured speaker at the upcoming New Yorker Festival drew sharp criticism from numerous bold-faced names, the festival has dropped Bannon as a speaker.

The news came after several famous faces, including Judd Apatow, Jim Carrey, Patton Oswalt and John Mulaney, all tweeted that they were canceling their scheduled appearances at the event.

The New Yorker tweeted late Monday that Bannon had been dropped from the lineup and that it was New Yorker editor David Remnick’s decision.

New Yorker editor David Remnick put out a statement Monday that he had decided to drop Bannon from the speaker lineup.

“I don’t want well-meaning readers and staff members to think that I’ve ignored their concerns,” he said. “I’ve thought this through and talked to colleagues — and I’ve re-considered. I’ve changed my mind. There is a better way to do this. Our writers have interviewed Steve Bannon for The New Yorker before, and if the opportunity presents itself I’ll interview him in a more traditionally journalistic setting as we first discussed, and not on stage.”

He also explained his rationale for originally including Bannon on the lineup.

“The main argument for not engaging someone like Bannon is that we are giving him a platform and that he will use it, unfiltered, to propel further the ‘ideas’ of white nationalism, racism, anti-Semitism and illiberalism,” he said. “But to interview Bannon is not to endorse him. By conducting an interview with one of Trumpism’s leading creators and organizers, we are hardly pulling him out of obscurity. Ahead of the mid-term elections and with 2020 in sight, we’d be taking the opportunity to question someone who helped assemble Trumpism.

Organizers announced the lineup early Monday of speakers including Apatow, Mulaney, John Krasinski, Jack Antonoff, Oswalt, Christine Baranski, Zadie Smith, Carrey, Jimmy Fallon and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

But the speaker drawing the most attention on social media is Bannon, the controversial former White House chief strategist who served as executive chairman of the right-leaning Breitbart News before joining Donald Trump’s campaign as chief executive in August 2016. He exited his White House position a year later.

Bannon was set to take part in a talk with Remnick titled “The Ideology of Trumpism” on Oct. 5, the first day of the three-day New Yorker Festival.

The news was met with criticism on social media from many famous faces, including Hollywood A-listers like Apatow and Ava DuVernay and the New Yorker’s own staff.

For his part, Remnick earlier told the New York Times: “I have every intention of asking him difficult questions and engaging in a serious and even combative conversation. The audience itself, by its presence, puts a certain pressure on a conversation that an interview alone doesn’t do. You can’t jump on and off the record.”

Still, TV and movie producer Aditya Sood noted that Bannon was previously featured on the festival’s main page but had since been removed.

Later Monday, Oswalt, Apatow, Carrey and Mulaney tweeted separately that they were going to pull out of their planned appearances.

There's a reason they call it Hollyweird…

Generous friend...

‘I lend my friends sex toys’: Maggie Gyllenhaal inundated with vibrators after signing up to film about history of the device

From the Daily Mail: Girls usually share make-up and DVDs (um, actually we don’t share make-up, not very hygenic).  So it may come as a surprise to hear Maggie Gyllenhaal gives her friends a thrill by loaning them vibrators.  The Dark Knight actress tapped into her generous streak after being inundated with free sex toys after signing up to new project Hysteria.
Maggie said: “By the time I finished the movie I’d been sent 15 vibrators by different people in London with vibrator stores. It was a pleasant surprise.  So I have this incredible collection, and I actually use one or two of them.  I lend them to my friends, and they’ll take them for six months at a time.
The 33-year-old star, sister of Donnie Darko actor Jake Gyllenhaal, said she was enticed by the project to discover more about ‘female sexuality’.  She added: “I decided to do it because I was also interested in female sexuality, although that makes it so scientific.  I don’t know many people who aren’t interested in female sexuality.  I was curious about the invention of the vibrator. It’s unusual when you read a romantic comedy where you’re curious about what’s going to happen.”
Basically I’m always looking for freedom, for a way to be free in my work.”  Maggie is no stranger to exploring erotic themes on camera, having put her stamp on Hollywood with her role in Secretary.  In the film, she embarks on a BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadomasochism) relationship and was forced to crawl on all fours while carrying out menial tasks – in what has now become an iconic image.
There’s just a little too much information from this woman here.  But I guess they’ll say anything to promote a movie.
