Liberal Tolerance: Red Hen restaurant kicks out White House press secretary Sarah Sanders

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, White House press secretary and daughter of former Arkansas governor Republican Mike Huckabee, was thrown out of a Virginia restaurant Friday night (June 23) in an incident that sparked a social media storm. The reason? Sanders works for President Donald Trump.

An Associated Press report, first picked up by the Christian Broadcasting Network, and subsequently by other media, said Sanders was ordered out of The Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington, Virginia, by the owner Stephanie Wilkinson, even as the chef was cooking Sanders’ dinner. Sanders said the event said far more about the owner of the restaurant than it did about her.

In a tweet from her official account, Sanders said, “I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so.”  The tweet generated more than 22,000 replies in about an hour. The ensuing furor pitted both supporters and detractors of Sanders. Her father, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, even joined the conversation. “Bigotry.” He tweeted. “On the menu at Red Hen Restaurant in Lexington VA. Or you can ask for the ‘Hate Plate.’ And appetizers are ‘small plates for small minds.”’

The incident mirrors an earlier incident in the week when Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen cut short a working dinner in a Mexican restaurant after protesters shouted, “Shame!” until she left.

In the ensuing social media dialogues, people from all across the country began to take sides. Some wanted to organize protests outside Red Hen restaurant, while others championed owner Wilkinson as a hero.

On Yelp, a Los Angeles-based restaurant reviewer chimed in, “Don’t eat here if you’re a Republican, wearing a MAGA hat, or are a patriot.”

Other Yelp commenters, however, supported the restaurant owner’s action. A responder from Commerce City, Colorado wrote, “Bonus: this place is run by management who stuck up for their beliefs and who are true Americans. THANK YOU!!!!”

Red Hen was trending toward the top of Twitter — 75,000 mentions within a couple hours of the first news stories.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Wilkinson explained her reasons for why she asked Sanders and her companions to leave.

“Several Red Hen employees were gay,” she said. “They knew Sanders had defended Trump’s desire to bar transgender people from the military. This month, they had all watched her evade questions and defend a Trump policy that caused migrant children to be separated from their parents.” Wilkinson said that the Sanders party already had been seated and their orders taken when she was informed by telephone who they were. It took her several minutes to drive from her home to the restaurant. She conferred with her employees.

“Tell me what you want me to do. I can ask her to leave,” Wilkinson told her staff. “They said yes.” Wilkerson then walked up to Sanders’ chair.

“I’m the owner,” she said. “I’d like you to come out to the patio with me for a word.”

She told Sanders about her feelings vis-sà-vis the president and recent events.

“I explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty, and compassion, and cooperation. I’d like to ask you to leave.”

She said that Sanders’ response was immediate: “That’s fine. I’ll go.”

As of Saturday afternoon, media personnel from broadcast stations and newspapers were camping out on the street next to the Red Hen. Wilkinson, however, remained steadfast in her belief that she was justified in throwing out the White House press secretary because she works for President Trump. She told the Washington Post, “Whatever happens, we will soldier on. Absolutely, yes, I would have done the same thing again.”

It must be noted that what the jackals of the Mainstream Media call “separation of families” is actually the Trump administration enacting a measure that flowed from the  Clinton-era Flores vs. Reno Supreme Court decision allowing unaccompanied illegal border-crossing minors be held “in the least restrictive setting appropriate to the minor’s age and special needs.”

Below is a pic of Red Hen owner  and her partner, Duncan Richter, wearing pink pussy hats (h/t FOTM‘s MCA).

According to TruthFinder, Wilkinson and Richter own and co-habit a home in Lexington, VA:

  • Stephanie Wilkinson, 55, has a Ph.D. in European and American Religious History from the University of Virginia. Her LinkedIn profile here.
  • Duncan Richter, 51, is a philosophy professor at Virginia Military Institute in Roanoke, VA. His LinkedIn profile here.

So much for higher education . . . .

Their lofty degrees evidently taught them nothing about classical or original liberalism — the political ideology that believes in the primacy of individual liberty; that while government is necessary to protect individuals from being harmed by others, government itself can pose a threat to liberty; and that no one or group has a monopoly on truth, and so we must tolerate our differences of opinion in the market place of ideas.

In a tweet, Congressman Ben Cline (R-VA) said Wilkinson is a cousin of snake-tongue Meryl Streep:

On behalf of my hometown of Lexington, I want to apologize for the rudeness of one liberal New York transplant (who also happens to be Meryl Streep’s cousin). We hope you will come back and enjoy our area’s true southern hospitality.

You can write a review of The Red Hen Restaurant at Yelp, here.

Calif professor smashes student's cell phone over gay marriage

American River CollegeAmerican River (community) College, Sacramento, CA

More intolerance, hate and rage from the illiberal Left.
A professor at a California community college, American River College (ARC), got so enraged at a student over same-sex marriage that he smashed the student’s cell phone.
ARC is a community college of 35,000 students in Sacramento, California.
Timothy Dionisopoulos reports for Campus Reform, May 10, 2013, that the student Vladimir Musorivschi is a volunteer on the campus campaign for student government of fellow student Luke Otterstad. Otterstad is an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage (see below).

According to Musorivschi’s version of events, he and ARC Anthropology Professor Frank Araujo got into a verbal altercation over whether or not same-sex marriage should be legal. Araujo screamed at the student, then smashed his cell phone to the ground.
Musorivschi told Campus Reform: “I said no you are not even arguing the right way, you are just screaming at me about something. When I said I was going to call the police he just smashed my phone, basically assaulted me and the phone went like fifteen feet and smashed into pieces.”
In an email to Campus Reform, Araujo would not confirm or deny whether the alleged altercation or assault had taken place. He wrote incoherently: “Not being a student and being unfamiliar with both the slates [sic] and their issues, I’m unable to make any cogent remarks.”

Frank AraujoFrank Araujo, Adjunct Professor, American River College

The college’s administrators are investigating the incident. Carlos Reyes, interim dean for the behavioral and social sciences at ARC, told Campus Reform: “I am currently investigating the situation. With that being said the college has a process and that process is being followed. I do not comment on ongoing investigations so there is not a lot of details I can give you.  Obviously we take the environment on campus seriously so that is something that is being looked at.”
Although ARC election rules forbid professors from engaging in negative campaigns and bans the use of school resources in student elections, ARC professors changed their public Facebook profile pictures late last month to anti-Otterstad slogans while the campus LGBT club held a rally and leaflet drive against his campaign.
Otterstad, who lost the student government election, told Campus Reform he has filed an official election complaint with the chancellor of the school which challenges the validity of the election due to a discrepancy in the vote count: “I am challenging the election results because the numbers released don’t add up, professors violated election rules by actively campaigning against me, and the District has a history of violating student voting rights.”

USC professor calls Republicans old white racists

It is now perfectly acceptable behavior to bash white people, Republicans, and conservatives. (Disclosure: I’m registered as a nonpartisan Independent, not a Republican.)
If a professor (or anyone) had called Democrats old black racists, this would be all over the mainstream media, which should more accurately be called the Ministry of Truth (see George Orwell’s prescient novel Nineteen Eighty-Four).
Darry Sragow
Oliver Darcy and Josiah Ryan report for Campus Reform, Apr 10, 2013, that a University of Southern California (USC) student secretly captured political science professor Darry Sragow misusing a fall semester 2012 political science class to deliver a sustained angry attack on Republicans, whom he characterizes as old white racist losers.
In the 15 min. video taken by Tyler Talgo, Sragow also conveys his approval of the illegal suppression of Republican votes.
A student asked the professor how to keep Republicans from voting. “You lose their information on the election in the mail. I mean there is lots [sic] of ways to do it,” Sragow answered, ungrammatically.
A teaching assistant (TA), who also appeared to work for the university, then seemed to suggest Black Panthers could be placed at polling stations to intimidate Republican voters. Rather than rebuking the TA, Sragow instead expressed his approval, saying “Yeah, yeah. You can do that.”

In a classic case of psychological projection, while endorsing illegal techniques to suppress Republican votes, Sragow accused the GOP of suppressing Democratic votes by supporting laws requiring voter I.D.: “Republicans are trying to prevent people of color and people of lower income from voting by requiring voter I.D.”
Sragow also made dozens of other derogatory remarks about Republicans and Republican politicians.
He attacked former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann, saying “Romney tends to make shit up” and “Ann Romney to me looks like she’s out of 1955 and the women who are going to have to decide the race are women who have to work for a living … she looks like she is hanging out at the country club in Mad Men.”
Sragow singled out California Republicans for trashing, calling them stupid racist SOBs: “California Republicans I just showed you are 30 percent registration in this state because they are really stupid and racist. The Republican party in California as I say all the time on the record in print on the radio and on TV is the last vestige of angry old white people. Old white guys are stubborn sons of bitches.”
Neither a spokesperson for USC nor professor Sragow responded to multiple requests from Campus Reform seeking comment.
Watch this sorry excuse of a professor spew his hate speech for yourself:
Actually, Darry Sragow is the loser.
A search on USC’s Political Science Department’s website uncovered that Darry Sragow’s title, despite his advanced age, is a lowly non-tenured non-tenure-track Adjunct Assistant Professor:

Darry Sragow
Adjunct Assistant Professor of Political Science
Research Areas:
Phone: (213)892-2925
Email: darry.sragow@snrdenton.com
Office: VKC 327

“Tenure-track” refers to academic appointments that are not year-by-year but semi-permanent, with the expectation that the individual will come up for tenure in 4-6 years, depending on the institution. There are three rungs or steps in tenure-track appointments:

  • Assistant Professor (without tenure)
  • Associate Professor (usually with tenure)
  • Full Professor (achieved after demonstration of substantial scholarship and reputation; that is why some associate professors retire without having achieved full professorship)

“Assistant Professor” is the title of the lowest rung of professorship — typically of  young fresh-out-of-grad-schools Ph.D.s.  “Adjunct” means Sragow is hired only on a year-by-year basis. All of which means that Sragow was hired as a junior Assistant Professor in another college or university many years ago but was denied tenure there. So now he makes his living drifting from one university to another as an Adjunct.

In other words, Darry Sragow is a loser — a failure in academe.

Please help make sure that USC kicks this bigot out. I searched for the Chair of the USC Political Science Department, but cannot find who he/she is. To contact the department:

The Face of Evil

A person who expresses glee at the death of a man who had committed no crime nor any personal injury/offense against that individual most certainly is not a good person.
A simple definition of “evil” is the opposite or absence of good.
By that definition, Gene Goldring is evil. He wrote this comment about the sudden death of Andrew Breitbart:

Oh boy…lol. Look at the crowd of tin foil hats. The guy was crazy so the world is now a little less crazy with his passing. Maybe you guys can now face a bit of reality without him corrupting your minds in the way that he did.

Your cognitive dissonance is now back online. Use it wisely.

For those who don’t know, lol or LOL means “Laugh Out Loud.”
Since Goldring helpfully uploaded a photo of himself for his WordPress gravatar and embedded a link to his public Facebook page, he’d appreciate you knowing that:

  • He has only 5 friends.
  • He’s going bald, as you can see in the two pics of himself posted on his FB wall. Only balding men wear a cap or hat all the time.

Here’s the first pic of Gene Goldring, taken in September 2009, which is also his WordPress gravatar:

Here’s the second pic of Gene Goldring, taken nearly 5 years ago in July 2007:
