Is the Lord for America or for our enemies?

Let’s see how the Lord answered Joshua on the eve of the battle of Jerico:

“Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, ‘Are you for us or for our enemies?’

‘Neither,’ he replied, ‘but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.’ Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, ‘What message does my Lord have for his servant?’

The commander of the Lord’s army replied, ‘Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.’ And Joshua did so.”

– Joshua 5:13-15

This was an appearance of Christ in the Old Testament, a “Christophany.” If you note, this commander did not tell Joshua to stop worshiping him (as a real angel would have said), but instead, told him to take his shoes off because he was on holy ground (…the same thing the Lord had said to Moses from the burning bush). This was Jesus Christ himself before he became a child and entered the world as the Lamb of God. So we have much more than an angel here. We have the highest authority in Heaven and Earth answering Joshua.

Back to the question

Is He with us or with our enemies? The Lord’s answer was “Neither.” He was not guarding Israel’s national interests, but those of the Kingdom of Heaven. If Joshua and the Israelites were in submission to God, then the Captain would be on their side.

Conclusion

If Americans are committed to Christ’s interests, then America will stand. If Americans are not committed to the Lord’s interests, then America will fall.
