UN passes gun-control Arms Trade Treaty

guns make us less safe
Is the Obama regime going for gun control via an international treaty that was just passed in the United Nations (UN)?
David Sherfinski reports for The Washington Times, April 2, 2013, that the UN General Assembly today approved by a 155 to 3 vote, the long-debated United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) — a sweeping, first-of-its-kind treaty to regulate the international arms trade.
The Obama regime supported the final draft of the ATT. Iran, Syria and North Korea voted against it.
The ATT requires countries to regulate and control the export of weaponry such as battle tanks, combat vehicles and aircraft and attack helicopters, as well as parts and ammunition for such weapons. It also provides that signatories (countries who approve of the treaty) will not violate arms embargoes, international treaties regarding illicit trafficking, or sell weaponry to countries for genocide, crimes against humanity or other war crimes.
But American gun rights advocates say the treaty is riddled with loopholes. Especially troubling is the treaty’s inclusion of “small arms and light weapons” in its list of weaponry subject to international regulations. They do not trust U.N. assertions that the pact is meant to regulate only cross-border trade and would have no impact on domestic U.S. gun laws and markets.

Critics of the treaty were heartened by the U.S. Senate’s resistance to ratifying the document, assuming the POS even sends the treaty to the Senate for ratification, which of course is required by the U.S. Constitution. In its budget debate late last month, the Senate approved a non-binding amendment opposing the treaty. The amendment is the brainchild of Sen. James M. Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), and has the support of all 45 Republican senators as well as 8 Democrats.
Sen Inhofe notes that the ATT could “disrupt diplomatic and national security efforts by preventing our government from assisting allies like Taiwan, South Korea or Israel when they require assistance.”

Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) made an eminently sensible point when he points out that passing a treaty Iran, Syria and North Korea will just ignore will only serve to constrain law-abiding countries like the U.S. In other words, Moran is invoking an international variant of “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”
Both Inhofe and Moran also argue that the Arms Trade Treaty violates our Constitutional rights, vowing that if the Obama regime supports the treaty — as appears to be the case — “members of the U.S. Senate must continue to make clear that any treaty that violates our Second Amendment freedoms will be an absolute nonstarter for ratification.”
Groups in support of the ATT include Amnesty International and the American Bar Association. The latter released a white paper arguing that the treaty would not affect Second Amendment rights.
Read the rest of the Washington Times article here.
Indeed, according to an analysis of the ATT by the Heritage Foundation, the treaty has at least two major flaws:

  1. The treaty is impractical because it’s unenforceable: By seeking to regulate everything from manufacturing technology to ammunition to small arms to aircraft carriers, the treaty’s scope would be so wide, any effort to honestly assess whether signatories are upholding it would be an exercise in futility. It will provide endless opportunities for activists to demand additional treaties and regulations when the contemplated treaty fails to work.
  2. The treaty poses a serious risk to our Second Amendment gun rights. For example, the treaty requires signatories to “take all appropriate measures to prevent the diversion of exported arms into the illicit market,” which could be held to require internal controls on the civilian transfer and sale of firearms. That, in turn, can lead to restrictions on the sale and transfer of guns within the United States.

UPDATE (July 24, 2013):

I’m catching up on my backlog of emails and found this from June 20, 2013:
By unanimous vote, the GOP-majority House of Rep. defunded the Global Arms Treaty enforcement, at least for a year.

Charlotte Iserbyt's Infowars Interview Leads with Post from Fellowship of the Minds

I knew Charlotte Iserbyt was a scheduled guest on Alex Jones’ Infowars.com radio broadcast last night.  I just watched the Youtube version this morning and Wow! They led with our post about the Newtown tragedy “Creating a Shooter” and that was just for openers.
Via email this morning, Charlotte described this interview as follows, “Please forward to your lists.  This interview covers the deliberate dumbing down of our children, the deliberate creation of immorality through federally-funded programs, and the dangers of school choice being supported by Obama, CFR, and the Heritage Foundation.”
She lays out the history of the deliberate destruction of our education system to achieve a “planned economy” and explains the roles played by both  Democrats and Republicans and quotes  Pope Benedict XVI, “[T]oday’s culture—characterized among other things by a utilitarianindividualism and technocratic economics—tends not to value the person, who…is conceived of as a “fluid” being with no permanent substance. Paradoxically, man today often seem…s to be an isolated being because he is indifferent to the constitutive relationship of his being, which is the root of all his other relationships: his relationship with God. The human being today is considered mainly in a biological perspective, or as “human capital”, “a resource”, part of a productive and financial mechanism that towers over him.”

Charlotte Iserbyt Dishes Dynamite!

Last Thursday Roger Fredinburg did a two hour interview with Charlotte Iserbyt.  All I can say is Wow! She spells it all out and has the documents to back it up.  Even better, the documents are onscreen for public view and offered freely for anyone to download at https://americandeception.com/
She recently published a new updated paperback version of the big hardback classic, “Deliberate Dumbing-Down of America.”  I gave my copy to my neice’s husband, a history major just entering his first teaching job.

This education scenario was absolutely necessary to enable Agenda 21

Update:  Charlotte just sent this email link in a post titled ” The End of Traditional Catholic Education”   They took the federal money in the form or vouchers so they will have to meeet the federal education requirements, just like every school that takes federal money.

Obama's Jobs Plan a Dud. Employers Not Hiring

It’s looking more and more like Obama’s new jobs plan, which he announced last Thursday evening, is a dud. U.S. employers don’t believe and are not supporting it.
Motoko Rich reports for the New York Times reports, Sept. 10, 2011, that few executives “across numerous industries…in companies big and small” say they’ll be hiring new workers.
Many employers dismiss the notion that any particular tax break or incentive would be persuasive. Instead, they say they’ll hire more workers or expand when the economy improved.
“You still need to have the business need to hire,” said Jeffery Braverman, owner of Nutsonline, an e-commerce company in Cranford, N.J., that sells nuts and dried fruit. While a $4,000 credit could offset the cost of the company’s lowest-cost health insurance plan, he said, it would not spur him to hire someone. “Business demand is what drives hiring,” he said.
Skippy’s jobs plan also failed to generate any optimism on Wall Street as the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index and the Dow Jones industrial average each fell about 2.7% on Friday.
That’s because — as a Heritage Foundation report points out — Skippy’s “new” jobs plan is really just a recycled version of his 2009 stimulus plan that utterly failed in stimulating the economy.

Average “Poor” American Has Cable TV, AC, Car

On July 14, 2011, thousands of people camped out overnight to get on a waiting list for government rental assistance (Section 8 housing vouchers) in Dallas, TX. At least 8 people were injured in the stampede into Jesse Owens Memorial Complex. [Read more about it here.]

Real News Reporter‘s sensationalist headline for its article is “Poor and Broke Camp Out Overnight, Rush the Gates for Gov Rental Assistance”. But are they really “poor and broke”?

The plain fact is that poverty in America is defined relatively instead of in absolute terms. Our government defines “the poor” as those who make less income and have less net worth than others, which means that so long as there is inequality of income and net worth in America, we will always have “the poor.”

Drawing on a report, What Is Poverty?, prepared by The Heritage Foundation’s Robert Rector and Rachel Sheffield, Mike Brownfield tells us in his July 18, 2011 article, “What Is Poverty in America?,” that the United States spends more than $1 trillion every year on welfare, but many of the 30 million Americans defined as “poor” and in need of government assistance are very different than the picture painted in movies and on TV. Rather than homeless and on the streets, the average poor American household has luxuries like air conditioning, cable TV, and X-box video game consoles.

According to the government’s own survey data, in 2005, the average household defined as poor by the government:

  • Lived in a house or apartment equipped with air conditioning and cable TV.
  • The family had a car; a third of the poor have two or more cars.
  • For entertainment, the household had two color televisions, a DVD player, and a VCR.
  • If there were children in the home (especially boys), the family had a game system, such as an Xbox or PlayStation.
  • In the kitchen, the household had a microwave, refrigerator, and an oven and stove.
  • Other household conveniences included a washer and dryer, ceiling fans, a cordless phone, and a coffee maker.
  • The home of the average poor family was in good repair and not overcrowded. In fact, the typical poor American had more living space than the average, not poor, European.
  • The average American “poor” family was able to obtain medical care when needed.
  • When asked, most poor families stated they had had sufficient funds during the past year to meet all essential needs.
  • By its own report, the family was not hungry. The average intake of protein, vitamins, and minerals by poor children is indistinguishable from children in the upper middle class and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms.
  • Poor boys today at ages 18 and 19 are actually taller and heavier than middle-class boys of similar age in the late 1950s and are a full one inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than American soldiers who fought in World War II.
  • The major dietary problem facing poor Americans is eating too much, not too little; the majority of poor adults, like most Americans, are overweight.

To be sure, the average poor family does not represent every poor family, and there are some who are better off and some who are worse off. Though most of the poor are well-housed, at any given point during the recession in 2009, about one in 70 poor persons was homeless, and one in five experienced temporary food shortages. Those individuals have serious concerns. But the fact remains that U.S. government statistics on poverty misrepresent the reality.

Now Obama plans to make this situation worse by creating a new “poverty” measure that deliberately severs all connection between “poverty” and actual deprivation. The goal is to measure income “inequality,” not poverty—giving the President public relations ammunition for his “spread-the-wealth” agenda.

My husband and I are among the 53% of Americans who still pay income taxes. But we don’t have air conditioning or cable TV or PlayStation. Our cell phones are cheap, prepaid phones.

Ain’t America grand.

UN is a Hotbed of New Age Occult

What is wrong with this picture?
Despite what Obama and the Left proclaim, the United States remains a Christian nation. Some 76% of Americans still call ourselves Christians. Non-Christian religions (including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism), collectively make up only 3.9% to 5.5% of the adult population. Not only is America still mainly Christian, a majority of Americans say that religion plays a “very important” role in their lives, a proportion that Wikipedia notes as being “unusual among developed nations.”
U.S. taxpayers are the largest financial supporter of the United Nations, to the tune of more than $6.347 billion in FY 2009. (For details about America’s UN financial contributions, scroll to the end of this post.) America also hosts the UN Headquarters in New York city.
But in the name of universal brotherhood and Gaia environmentalism, the UN is actively promoting a new paganism that is a hodge podge of New Agism, Eastern mysticism, and covert Satanism.
Before you roll your eyes and hum the Twilight Zone’s “ding ding ding ding” tune, read the evidence I’ll present to you and then tell me what you think.
The first piece of evidence is below. I will publish the other pieces as separate posts over the course of the next few days.

UN’s Spiritual Advisor Sri Chinmoy

People’s Exhibit No. 1: The Guru

For 23 years, the United Nations had a self-proclaimed Hindu mystic named Sri Chinmoy as its own in-house “spiritual advisor” — guru. Chinmoy would offer prayer and meditation meetings for anyone to attend every Tuesday and Friday in the UN’s Meditation Room. (The room will be People’s Exhibit No. 2 — the subject of tomorrow’s post.)
In his book Genesis: Shaping a Global Spirituality, longtime UN Under Secretary General Robert Muller exulted that “We have…a UN Meditation Group led by an Indian Mystic. One could tell several moving stories of the spiritual transformation the UN has caused, to the point that this little speck on earth is becoming a holy ground.” (quoted in Gary Kah’s The New World Religion, p. 310)
Chinmoy claimed to have been Thomas Jefferson in a previous life, as well as the Spiritual Brother (whatever that means) to Jesus Christ. Chinmoy’s disciples claim him as one of a handful of fully enlightened beings on the planet. Some disciples go so far as to claim he is an avatar, a living God. They meditate to a print of his face.
According to Wikipedia, Sri Chinmoy’s real name is Chinmoy Kumar Ghose. Born in 1931 (d. 2007), he was a Hindu spiritual teacher and philosopher who immigrated from his native India to the U.S. in 1964 and later “gave talks at the United Nations.”
Chinmoy claimed to have once lifted over 7,000 pounds with one arm. But in 1989, his official photographer Alex Zwarenstein revealed that Chinmoy had asked him to airbrush photographs to exaggerate his weightlifting ability. He also was publicly accused of sexual misconduct by Anne Carlton and two other former disciples. Carlton told the New York Post that Chinmoy summoned her for sexual encounters over two extended periods, in 1991 and 1996. Other women have also recounted similar stories, and one even revealed that Chinmoy had paid for her abortion after getting her pregnant in the early 1980s. However, the great spiritual teacher said the sexual allegations were false, insisting he was a life-long celibate.
Musician Carlos Santana was once a follower who had spoken glowingly of his guru. When the two parted ways, Santana told Rolling Stone magazine that Chinmoy became “vindictive” and “told all my friends not to call me ever again, because I was to drown in a dark sea of ignorance for leaving him”.
Indeed, the website Sri Chinmoy.TV continues to trumpet that “An honor bestowed on Chinmoy is that he is Spiritual Advisor to the United Nations.” The website also has this “brief history” of the great one:

Sri Chinmoy was orphaned at the age of 12. At that time he entered Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community in South India. As a child Chinmoy had profound mystical experiences….. He resided at the ashram for 20 years practicing meditation and spiritual discipline. There he attained the level of Nirvikalpa Samadhi which is “the highest mystical state compatible with functioning in the physical world”…. In 1964 he received a call from God that took him to New York [and to the UN]. Three years after his arrival he founded the first Sri Chinmoy Centre. Today there are Sri Chinmoy Centres in 50 different countries the purpose of which are to provide a place to hold meditation classes and athletic events…. For the past 30 years Sri Chinmoy has resided in…New York promoting world peace and helping people search for inner truth.

The website also says that Chinmoy “has devout followers which he calls his children.”

Brett Schaefer of the Heritage Foundation reports: “The source and amounts of all U.S. funding to the myriad number of organizations affiliated with the United Nations are difficult to track accurately. This difficulty prompted Congress to pass legislation requiring the Administration to report annually on U.S. contributions to the U.N. A recent report to Congress by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on all U.S. funding to the U.N. system revealed that U.S. contributions to the U.N. system reached record levels in fiscal year (FY) 2009…. The U.S. has been the largest financial supporter of the U.N. since the organization’s founding in 1945. The U.S. is currently assessed 22% of the U.N. regular budget and more than 27% of the U.N. peacekeeping budget. In dollar terms, the Administration’s budget for FY 2011 requested $516.3 million for the U.N. regular budget and more than $2.182 billion for the peacekeeping budget. However, the U.S. also provides assessed financial contributions to other U.N. organizations and voluntary contributions to many more U.N. organizations. According to OMB, total U.S. contributions to the U.N. system were more than $6.347 billion in FY 2009. This is more than $1 billion more than total contributions as compiled by OMB for FY 2005, and it is indicative of the rising budgetary trends in the U.N. and the consequential demand on U.S. financial support.”
