NY Congressman wants to ban 3D gun magazines

Remember how, during the heated discussion on FOTM about Feinstein et al.’s gun control/ban legislations, we were saying how we can make our own guns with the new technology of 3D printing?

Guess what.

There’s already a Congressman, Steve Israel (D-NY), who’s seeking to ban that, even though that technology hasn’t even yet become a reality!

Rep. Israel has received:

  • 0% rating from 2nd Amendment groups such as NRA;
  • 100% ratings from pro-abortion groups such as NARAL and Planned Parenthood;
  • 100% rating from the pro LGBT rights Human Rights Campaign;
  • 0% rating from the pro family values Family Research Council.

Steve Israel

J. D. Heyes reports for Natural News, Feb. 13, 2013, that soon after Obama had affixed his signature to 23 executive “actions” tightening existing gun control regulations, and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law a raft of harsh new gun control legislation, U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, (D-NY) advanced a proposal to ban futuristic 3D firearms magazines, according to a press release from his office.

Specifically, Israel is calling for a renewal of an “enhanced” Undetectable Firearms Act (UFA), passed in 1988, which would include the 3D magazine ban. The UFA, which bans plastics and plastic guns, is due to expire this year.

Israel said: “Background checks and gun regulations will do little good if criminals can print high-capacity magazines at home. 3D printing is a new technology that shows great promise, but also requires new guidelines. Law enforcement officials should have the power to stop keep homemade high-capacity magazines from proliferating with a Google search.”

According to descriptions of the technology, such magazines can be using 3D printers. From Mashable.com:

Additive manufacturing or 3D printing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital model. 3D printing is achieved using additive processes, where an object is created by laying down successive layers of material. 3D printing is considered distinct from traditional machining techniques (subtractive processes) which mostly rely on the removal of material by drilling, cutting etc.

The technology is used in the fields of jewelry, footwear, industrial design, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC), automotive, aerospace, dental and medical industries, education, geographic information systems, civil engineering, and many others.

Here’s a video on a 3D gun magazine:

Israel would have you believe that, based on the above video, the mass production of 3D magazines is just around the corner. But nowhere in this video a) are claims that such magazines are durable and capable of rigorous use or longevity; or b) evidence that this “demonstration” was anything more than some kind of stunt.

Whether or not 3D gun magazines are durable is not the point.

The point is that we have a political class in America whose members are not simply dismissive of our Second Amendment constitutional rights to arm and protect ourselves, but openly hostile to them.

I am reminded of what I once tried to impress on my students — how in the Soviet Union, the Communist Party regime banned the private ownership of typewriters and photocopy machines so as to thwart political dissidents (Refuseniks) from disseminating “dissenting” messages and literature.

We need a Refusenik Movement in America, formerly the Land of the Free.

Obama administration to outlaw shotguns

Second Amendment alert!

Jack Minor of The Greeley Gazette writes:

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is taking a rare step of allowing public comments prior to issuing a decision on a study that could result in outlawing certain types of shotguns currently available to citizens.

The ATF completed a study regarding the importability of certain shotguns. The basis for a possible ban is based on a loosely defined “Sporting Purpose” test. Using the vague definition almost all pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns could be banned as they are all capable of accepting a magazine, box or tube capable of holding more than 5 rounds. Other characteristics determined to be “military” by the ATF can also be used as a basis for a ban.

Ironically, many shotguns with “military” features are currently being used in shooting competitions held by the USPSA, IDPA and IPSC. The rules could also result in obscure regulations where an individual would be unsure if he is violating them or not.

Dudley Brown, Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, said if the ATF succeeds with the banning of tactical shotguns it “will be the most dangerous interpretation of the 1968 Gun Control Act ever envisioned and will outlaw thousands of perfectly legitimate home defense shotguns.”

 The ATF is currently allowing public comments on the study until the end of the month. Those wishing to express concerns about the study can send an email to shotgunstudy@atf.gov

Obama presidency triggered a 755% increase in number of militias

There is no First Amendment without the Second Amendment.

Alan Caruba reminds us that the first Americans won their independence from England with the force of arms. It was, in fact, a British effort in 1775 to confiscate military arms they believed were stored in Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, which sparked the Revolutionary War.

The Founding Fathers were so aware of the need for an armed citizenry that, after ensuring freedom of religion, speech, press and the right to peacefully assemble in the First Amendment, the Second guaranteed their right to bear arms.

That right is crucial because it’s the last line that stands between the people and a tyrannical government.  Indeed, wherever authoritarian regimes were established in the last century, they first took away this right and then proceeded to kill, with impunity and abandonment, those deemed enemies of the state.

That is why the right to bear arms is the bete noir of the Left, who have tried for years to chip away at the Second Amendment. Now, with their man in the White House and majority control in both houses of Congress, they are poised to launch their concerted attack against gun rights. See examples, here.

A sign seen at the Million Patriots March on D.C., Sept. 12, 2009.

At this point in American history, the Obama administration constitutes a threat to the Constitution in general and the Second Amendment in particular.

But more and more Americans are taking matters into their own hands.

At the end of 2011, the FBI released data  showing that violent crime in the United States fell 6.4% in the first half of this year compared to the same time period in 2010., and property crime also fell 3.7%. But gun sales have gone up ever since Obama entered the White House.

More than 80,000,000 Americans are gun owners.

And the numbers have increased with the new year. As an example, it was reported on February 19, 2012, that applications for a Georgia Weapon Carry license are rising at such a rate that applications could nearly double 2011’s numbers by the end of this year.

The election of Obama in 2008 also triggered an explosion in the number of armed militias and patriot groups in the United States.

The left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center reported in its annual tally of so-called “anti-government organizations” that there were 149 militias and patriot groups when Obama took office, compared to more than 1,200 today — an increase of 755%!

Read more on the militias here, or read the SPLC report titled “Year in Hate” (that SPLC is so objective and nonpartisan! LOL) here.

Or better yet, read Sage’s exposé of the ungodly, conservatives-hating Southern Poverty Law Center, here.

Pro-life Santorum voted for govt subsidies to Planned Parenthood

The taxpayer-subsidized abortion mill, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, received $487.4 million in tax dollars over a 12-month period and performed 329,455 abortions.

While he was in the U.S. Senate representing Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum, a pro-life Roman Catholic, had voted to fund indirectly (through title X family planning) Planned Parenthood clinics.

Santorum also voted in favor of HR 796, the Abortion Clinic Access Bill; his was a “key vote”. HR 796 sought to amend the federal criminal code to prohibit actions directed at clinics which perform abortion procedures, or at those persons attempting to access these clinics.

He also enthusiastically campaigned for pro-abortion Arlen Specter against the more conservative Pat Toomey.

Rick and Karen Santorum

Here’s some more of Santorum’s troubling voting record:

  1. Strips the right of detainees to habeas corpus (the traditional right of detainees to challenge their detention);
  2. Gives the US President the power to detain indefinitely anyone—US or foreign nationals, from within the US, and from abroad—it deems to have provided material support to anti-US hostilities, and even use secret and coerced evidence (i.e. through use of torture) to try detainees who will be held in secret US military prisons;
  3. Gives US officials immunity from prosecution for torturing detainees that were captured before the end of 2005 by US military and CIA.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail yesterday had a bizarre story on Karen Garver, before she married Rick Santorum, having a years-long cohabitating love affair with an abortion-doctor Thomas E. Allen. Allen not only was 40 years older than Karen, he had delivered her as a baby. Yuck!

Like her husband Rick, Karen Santorum is now pro-life and Catholic. The Santorums have 7 children.

Obama tells Congress he’ll decide what’s constitutional

Obama’s arrogance knows no limits.

Our Founding Fathers devised a system wherein governmental power is separated into three branches. The main purpose of the separation of powers is to have the three branches check and balance each other, so that the people’s liberties are safe-guarded by having government not be monolithic and thus, tyrannical.

Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government — the main law-making body. The executive branch — comprised of the presidency and bureaucracies such as the National Institutes of Health and the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security — is tasked with administering and carrying out (execute) laws and policies. Congress can pass whatever laws it deems fit, but if the executive branch does not implement those laws, the latter effectively are moot.

And that’s exactly what the creature who’s variously called Barry Soetoro, Stephen Dunham, and Barack Hussein Obama, Jr., is doing.

Chris Cox, the Executive Director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, writes in The Daily Caller, Jan. 5, 2012:

“Just a few days before Christmas, Obama served notice to all Americans that he will continue to abuse executive privilege by seeking new ways to vilify gun owners and further his anti-gun agenda.

Congress placed a provision in the $1 trillion omnibus spending bill for 2012 designed to bar the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from using any of its $30.7 billion taxpayer funds to ‘advocate or promote gun control.’ However, upon signing the bill into law, President Obama issued a caveat of his own:

I have advised Congress that I will not construe these provisions as preventing me from fulfilling my constitutional responsibility to recommend to the Congress’s consideration such measures as I shall judge necessary and expedient.

In other words: ‘Congress may pass laws, but I decide which of its laws are constitutional and which I can simply choose to ignore.’

Of course, the Constitution doesn’t actually give the president this power, but Obama won’t allow a little thing like the U.S. Constitution get in his way. And in the present case, Congress is right to try to prevent him from using a federal health agency, not to mention our tax dollars, as a weapon in his ongoing war against the Second Amendment. As The Washington Times reports, NIH has wasted over $5 million since 2002 producing deceptive studies aimed at furthering gun control — including one study that tried ‘to prove that a home without firearms was essential to a child’s safety and well-being.’

Even more importantly, Congress knows that there is no scheme too radical, or dangerous, for the Obama administration when it comes to using federal agencies to push its anti-gun agenda.

Last month, email exchanges surfaced between employees at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) that show the administration helped illegally transfer guns to violent Mexican drug cartels in order to manufacture a case for gun registration. Now gun dealers in four Southwest border states must abide by a new gun registration requirement, courtesy of BATFE, that forces them to register the sales of any law-abiding American who purchases more than one semi-automatic rifle within five business days.

Congress never passed any law like this. Rather, Obama’s BATFE orchestrated the deadly ‘Fast and Furious’ gun-walking scandal to give cause for its unconstitutional gun-control edict.”

The Left complained about the “Imperial Presidency” beginning in the Nixon administration and, most recently, about George W. Bush. Now that the president is a Democrat, we no longer hear about the Imperial Presidency. For them, political party and ideology trump the Constitution. That is otherwise called tribalism.

Wild Bill Lays It on the Line about Hollywood & Guns – Leftwing Hypocrite Nutjobs

An Arizona Department of Safety officer pulled over a driver for a faulty taillight. When the officer approached the driver, the man behind the wheel handed the officer his driver’s license, insurance card,  and a concealed weapon carry permit.

The officer took all the documents, looked them over and said. “Mr.Smith, I see you have a CCP. Do you have any weapons with you presently?”

The driver replied, ” Yes sir, I have a 357 magnum in a hip holster, a .45 ACP Colt in the glove box,  and a .22 Derringer in my boot.”

The officer looked at the driver and asked, “Anything else?”

“Yes sir, I have a Mossberg 500 twelve gauge shotgun and an AR-15 behind the seat.”

The officer asked Mr. Smith if he was driving to or from a shooting range, and the man said no, he wasn’t.  Then the officer bent down,  looked into the driver’s face,  and said “Mr. Smith, you’re carrying quite a few guns!  May I ask what you are afraid of?

Mr. Smith locked eyes with the officer and calmly answered,                                     “Not a damn  thing.”
