New Zealand begins its gun “buyback collection”

I prefer to call this scheme “compensated confiscation.”

From MSN: New Zealand has started the first of more than 250 gun buyback collections for banned military-style semi-automatic weapons in the wake of the Christchurch mosque massacres.

Police have set up the first firearms collection event just a few kilometres away from where a lone gunman opened fire at two Christchurch mosques in March, killing 51 people.

The Australian man accused of the killings, Brenton Tarrant, is alleged to have used an arsenal of five weapons, including two military-style semi-automatic rifles, in the attacks on two Christchurch mosques. Mr Tarrant in June pleaded not guilty to terrorism charges, as well as 51 counts of murder and 40 of attempted murder.

New Zealand police said they had paid about $200,000 to dozens of gun owners handing in their weapons in the first hours of the buyback event.

In the wake of the worst massacre in modern New Zealand history, MPs voted 119-1 to outlaw military-style semi-automatics, which allow the rapid fire of high-calibre bullets.

The Government is offering money for every gun handed back by a licensed owner, with the total cost of the scheme estimated at NZ$218 million ($207 million).

Chris Cahill from the Police Association said he expects a positive response. “We needed these semi-automatic assault rifles out of the community, but it’s appropriate that people who have had to hand them in are compensated for it,” he said.

But Nicole McKee from the Council of Licensed Firearms Owners said the compensation package was not fair and reasonable. “It happened so quickly that there was no democratic process involved and there were no discussions involved with the community that had been affected,” she said.

There are concerns too that farming communities, which rely on firearms for hunting and pest control, will suffer because of the weapons ban.

Professor Kevin Clements from Otago University told ABC’s The World program that general public opinion was “completely in favour” of the measures, despite complaints from gun owners. “The reality is we’ve got twice as many weapons per capita as you have in Australia, and six times as many as exists in the United Kingdom,” he said.

So on a per-capita basis New Zealand is a fairly over-gunned society, and those guns kill people, in suicides and homicides and so forth, at the rate of about one a day.”

He said New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern had responded in much the same way as John Howard after the Port Arthur mass shooting.

But he said some in the gun lobby were urging firearms holders not to hand over their weapons and to bury them instead, and that many were disappointed that ammunition would not be compensated.

Some 258 collection events will be held across New Zealand over the next three months, and police expect tens of thousands of guns to be surrendered.

Licensed firearms owners will have six months to surrender weapons that have now been deemed illegal under the scheme, with an amnesty ensuring they will not face prosecution during that period.

After the amnesty expires, possession of prohibited firearms is punishable by up to five years in jail.

Police Minister Stuart Nash said police knew of 14,300 registered military-style semi-automatic rifles and there were an estimated 1.2 million firearms in the community, with the vast majority still legal under the new rules.

Virginia governor proposes radical gun control measure that could end up with confiscation

Make no mistake about this gun grab: This demoRAT governor is leading the fight to take away your guns in Virginia.

From Fox News: The plan to ban the sale and possession of certain kinds of firearms proposed by Virginia governor Ralph Northam (D.) could affect millions of gun owners, an industry group said on Friday.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which represents gun manufacturers and dealers, said the vague description of the legislation released by Northam on Jan. 4 would apply to most firearms currently on sale in the commonwealth.

The legislative proposals being discussed would put most firearms beyond the reach of law-abiding Virginians who choose the firearms of their choice to protect themselves, hunt, and practice recreational target shooting,” said Lawrence G. Keane, the group’s general counsel. “That could potentially impact the availability of tens of millions of firearms.”

While short on details, Northam’s announcement said part of the proposed gun-control package would ban the “sale, purchase, possession, and transport” of undefined “assault firearms” including “any firearm that is equipped with a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds of ammunition.” Since the vast majority of semiautomatic handguns and rifles in the state are sold standard with magazines capable of holding 10 or more rounds, it appears the proposed ban would affect most firearms on sale in Virginia.

Additionally, the announcement of the ban did not include mention of any grandfathering to allow what NSSF estimated would be millions of Virginians who already own such firearms to legally keep them.

Click for more from The Washington Free Beacon.

This is a straight-up gun confiscation proposal. Stephen Gutowski from Free Beacon details more about this proposal on Twitter (from Twitchy):

“Virginia Democrats don’t just want to ban future sales of “assault firearms” as a few states have done, they want to outright ban possession which means confiscation. And their vauge definition of “assault firearms” applies to most currently sold in VA.”

“The only defining characteristic they’ve released thus far is any firearm “equipped” with a magazine that holds 10 or more rounds. That’s nearly every semi-automatic handgun and rifle sold in the state. The vast majority come standard with magazines that hold more than 10 rounds.”

The governor’s office refused to return my calls or answer my questions on the proposed ban so there’s no more details on what the actual legislation will look like or how Democrats would enforce such a law.”

“If the legislation matches the governor’s announcement, which isn’t a guarantee given how vauge and poorly written the announcement is, the proposal would be by far the most radical gun ban in the country. No other state has attempted this kind of confiscation on this scale.”

Remember this when demoRATs claim they aren’t coming for your guns…

Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) threatens to nuke gun-confiscation resisters

Rep. Eric Swalwell, 38, is a California Demonrat who represents east Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In a May 3, 2018 USA Today op/ed entitled, “Ban assault weapons, buy them back, go after resisters,” Swalwell said he and other Democrats had been too deferential to Second Amendment activists and should follow the lead of teenage “survivors” of the Parkland school shooting who have been more strident.

Swalwell proposed outlawing and confiscating all “military-style semiautomatic assault weapons”. Existing owners of semiautomatic rfiles would be forced to sell their weapons or face prosecution because merely banning assault weapons would still “leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come.”

Townhall‘s Katie Pavlich points out that “assault rifle” is a politically loaded, misleading term used by the Left to demonize semi-automatic rifles, and that what Swalwell wants to confiscate is “In other words, every rifle in America.”

Responding to Swalwell’s gun ban and confiscation proposal, former InfoWars reporter Joe Biggs @Rambobiggs tweeted:

So basically @RepSwalwell wants a war. Because that’s what you would get. You’re outta your fucking mind if you think I’ll give up my rights and give the gov all the power.

To which Swalwell tweeted this threat:

And it would be a short war my friend. The government has nukes. Too many of them. But they’re legit. I’m sure if we talked we could find common ground to protect our families and communities.

Biggs tweeted back:

So our government would nuke its own country in order to take guns? Wow

So did others:

@KGamecock: “‘We can nuke you but hey, let’s find common ground’ – A sitting US Representative. That’s almost as laughable as your wikipedia photo. Stay in California Eric.”

@Elm 335: “You really just threatened to use nukes on our citizens and can’t understand why we don’t trust the government enough to give up our 2nd amendment rights?!”

Like other Demonrats who’ve issued threats, when confronted Swalwell calls his threat mere sarcasm:

it’s sarcasm. He said he’s going to war with America if gun legislation was passed. I told him his government has nukes. God forbid we use sarcasm

He then portrays himself as the innocent victim:

America’s gun debate in one thread.

1) I propose a buy-back of assault weapons

2) Gun owner says he’ll go to war with USA if that happens

3) I sarcastically point out USA isn’t losing to his assault weapon (it’s not the 18th Century)

4) I’m called a tyrant

Swalwell also calls Biggs and other pro-Second Amendment Americans “gun trolls” whom he’s bravely taken on “to protect kids from being slaughtered in class”.

Elected to the House of Representatives in November 2012, Swalwell is a strong supporter of abortion and LGBTs. He has been mentioned as a potential 2020 presidential candidate and has publicly expressed an interest in running.

Eric Swalwell is precisely the sort of politicians about whom Thomas Jefferson had warned.

Picture Perfect Gunman – To Disarm America

And so the next gun grab begins

For a long time the Left kept coming up with non-starters in their attempt to prove the danger posed by white ex-soldiers coming back into the country. Now they have their poster child.

And yet, nobody stops to ask how this would have turned out if the patrons of the country music club were armed and trained.

Any guesses how long before the truth leaks out, and we know what really happened? To me, this wreaks of false flag and street theater. There is even a report that some patrons were survivors of the Las Vegas shooting.

Illinois State Assembly approves gun confiscation bill

Mon, 19 Mar 2018 20:09:47 +0000

eowyn2

The state legislature of Illinois has approved a bill, HB 1465, which:

  • Requires 18 to 20-year-olds to hand over or transfer ownership of heretofore legally possessed “assault weapons” — which the NRA-ILA describes as commonly-owned “semi-automatic firearms” — as well as any magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.
  • Bans the sale of certain types of semi-automatic weapons to individuals under age 21.
  • Makes owning such a weapon by persons under age 21 a Class 3 felony for a first offense and a Class 2 felony for a second offense.

The government forcing people to forfeit or hand over weapons previously deemed legal is confiscation.

On February 28, 2018, the bill was passed by a vote of 64-51 in the State House of Representatives. On March 14, 2018, the Illinois State Senate passed the bill by a vote of 33-22. Both the House and Senate are controlled by a Democrat majority.

HB 1465 was introduced in Illinois’ House by Rep. Michelle Mussman (D). The bill’s 23 co-sponsors are all Democrats: 16 females, 7 males.

HB 1465 was introduced in Illinois’ Senate by Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago). There were 7 co-sponsors, among whom was Republican Sen. Jim Oberweis, whom the NRA had given an “A” rating in 2014.

The bill deviates from the traditional military definition of assault rifle, requiring the weapon to be capable of selective fire options like three round bursts and fully-automatic, and instead defines it as any semi-automatic rifle or pistol with a belt or magazine fed system capable of more than 10 rounds or featuring a folding stock or the ability to accept tactical attachments such as scopes. The definition also includes some .50 caliber rifles.

Critics of the gun confiscation bill were taken aback by “the idea that the government would confiscate property.” The bill’s House sponsor, Rep. Michelle Mussman, responded to these concerns by assuring them “authorities will not visit homes to pick up weapons.” Rather, “a first offense for getting caught with prohibited firearms would be a misdemeanor offense.”

After the state Senate passed the bill, HB 1465 must go back to the House for reconciliation because the Senate added an amendment, meant to attract Republican support for the bill, which would allow individuals who owned such weapons prior to the passage of the law to use that fact as an affirmative defense when facing felony charges under the legislation.

But Sen. Chapin Rose (R) told Watchdog.org that the amendment would not necessarily protect owners of the weapons from facing felony charges if they do not surrender them. He believes the bill should have exempted current owners of the weapons from facing charges, rather than just offering them an affirmative defense while under arrest.

If Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) signs the bill, HB 1465 will become law. Residents under the age of 21 will have 90 days to turn over the guns and magazines.

Rauner recently vetoed a bill that would have required gun retailers to be licensed by the state, claiming that to be “unnecessary, burdensome regulation.” Gubernatorial vetoes can be overturned by a three-fifths majority vote in both houses of the Illinois General Assembly.

Illinois also recently passed other gun control bills in addition to the gun confiscation HB 1465:

  • The Illinois State Senate passed HB 1467, which bans bump stocks and trigger cranks, and added an amendment to that bill allowing localities to ban what it defines as assault weapons, potentially creating different gun laws on a town-by-town basis in Illinois.
  • The Illinois House of Representatives passed HB 1468, which would impose a 72-hour waiting period on purchases of items defined as assault weapons. The Senate has yet to vote on the measure.

NRA members in Illinois should read this: “Supreme Court ruled in 2008 that Second Amendment applies to individuals, not militias, and may include military weapons”.

Oregon Passes GOP Senator’s Bill Allowing Gun Seizure Order Without Gun Owner’s Knowledge

brian boquist

RINO Brian Boquist

Outrageous.
From Breitbart: Oregon lawmakers passed legislation co-sponsored by Sen. Brian Boquist (R-Dallas) that allows a judge to issue an ex parte ruling for the confiscation of an individual’s firearms.
The bill is SB 719, and it has now passed Oregon’s House and Senate. It creates an Extreme Risk Protection Order, which forces the subject of the order to hand over all firearms, as well as his concealed carry permit if he possesses one.
NRA-ILA reports:
Based on a California law enacted in 2014, SB 719A would create a so-called “Extreme Risk Protection Order” (ERPO) that could be obtained by a law enforcement officer, family member, or household member in an ex parte hearing to deprive someone of their Second Amendment rights without due process of the law.
The ex parte aspect of the law means the bill does not require the gun owner to be present for part of the hearing in which the judge decides whether guns should be taken from him.
On April 18, 2017, Breitbart News reported that Boquist was pushing this confiscation bill, and he emailed Breitbart News to suggest the bill simply puts forward a law that is popular in other gun-control states. For example, Boquist informed Breitbart News that a similar law “passed the voters in Washington by 70%.”
Boquist also told Breitbart News that SB 719 “is not confiscation.” However, the language of SB 719 is quite confiscatory. It says:
Requires court to order respondent to surrender deadly weapons and concealed handgun license within 24 hours of service of initial order, and immediately upon service of continued or renewed order. Provides for law enforcement officer serving order to request immediate surrender of deadly weapons and concealed handgun license and authorizes law enforcement officer to take possession of surrendered items.
If a requirement for “immediate surrender” of firearms and concealed carry license upon issue of an ex parte ruling is not confiscation, then what is?
The Times quoted Boquist’s defense of the confiscatory bill on the Senate floor, saying, “Everyone wants to promote this as a gun bill. It’s not.”

Association of police chiefs advocates gun control

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) was founded in Chicago in 1893 as the National Chiefs of Police Union.
IACP’s stated mission is to advance the science and art of police services; develop and disseminate improved administrative, technical and operational practices and promote their use in police work; foster police cooperation and the exchange of information and experience among police administrators throughout the world; bring about recruitment and training in the police profession of qualified persons; and encourage adherence of all police officers to high professional standards of performance and conduct.
Note that nowhere in the IACP’s mission is gun control.
Obama at 2015 conference of International Association of Chiefs of Police
AWR Hawkins reports for Breitbart, that on October 26, 2015, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) met in Chicago for their annual conference where they dropped their push for longer prison sentences and, instead, focused their attention on gun control.
Along with the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence (NLEPPGV), the IACP joined Democrat presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley in calling for an expansion of background checks to all gun sales.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy

According to ABC 7, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said the chiefs “are not going to relent” in this push because “This is too important. Americans are dying and we need to do something about it.”
But McCarthy did not address the recent study by the University of Chicago Crime Lab which shows that criminals in his jurisdiction are not getting their guns from gun stores or gun shows or the Internet. Rather, Chicago’s criminals are getting their guns through “personal connections” on the street, which are not affected by background checks on gun sales.
In other words, criminals have already abandoned all the outlets where McCarthy wants to put more gun control. This means the only people who would be limited by the police chiefs’ proposed expansion of background checks are the law-abiding citizens who need guns most.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke says:

I was extremely disappointed when I heard that my fellow law enforcement executive colleagues had gotten into bed with Obama and his gun confiscation mission. That’s really what it’s about. It’s not about reducing violence, it’s not about reducing mass murder or suicides. The real intent of Obama and these gun groups is gun confiscation and they know they are going to have to do it step by step. They’re not going to be able to go after that today, as there would be fierce blowback. So they are doing it in stealth ways and this IACP meeting is one of those ways.

Clarke points out that “the chiefs who met in Chicago speak for themselves, they do not speak for the law enforcement profession.” He says that National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence (NLEPPGV) has embedded itself with the IACP, and that doing so is a “slick” way of not simply getting its message out but of making it look like law enforcement really does support more gun control. Funding for groups like NLEPPGV comes from the Ford Foundation, identified by Clarke as part of an “anti-Second Amendment crusade.”
Clarke said:

We, in law enforcement, have an obligation to be on the side of crime victims. Not on the side of the criminal element. Gun control has nothing to do with the crime and violence that these chiefs see in their cities on a daily basis and they know it. But many of them, especially in your large urban centers, are under the thumb of anti-gun, soft on crime, mayors. And they have to sing from the same sheet of music that their mayors are singing from.
But the crime and violence we see in our cities and counties is not the result of a lack of background checks, and these chiefs know that. The research and data are there. Criminals don’t care about laws in general and they don’t care about gun laws or gun restrictions. They will find a way to get around those.  And that’s why I ultimately say that the chiefs’ push for more gun control has nothing to do with reducing violence. Rather, it has to do with gun confiscation.

Police going door-to-door in Zimmerman trial town in prep for riot

Sanford, FL — where George Zimmerman is on trial for murder for the death of teenager Trayvon Martin — has become another Watertown, Massachusetts.

Recall that on April 19, 2013, Watertown became an armed police state. Police in riot gear blanketed the small suburb of Boston, going door-to-door in search of the remaining bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, by bursting into homes with guns drawn, and marching residents out with their hands raised above their heads like criminals. (See “Boston Bombing: Getting the sheeple used to the police state,” April 23, 2013.)

Now cops are doing that again, in Sanford, FL.

Sanford FL policeSanford police chief Cecil Smith (l)

As WND reports, July 1, 2013, only this time at least they are knocking on doors instead of knocking them down.

While the media has portrayed Zimmerman as white, he actually has a Hispanic heritage.

Police say they fear a violent backlash from the community when the Zimmerman jury verdict is delivered. Los Angeles had days of rioting when the Rodney King verdict came down.

So Sanford Police Chief Cecile Smith sent cops to go door-to-door talking to people. Smith said, “Our worst fear is that we’d have people from outside the community coming in and stirring up … violence.”

Authorities are seeking help from local pastors in their campaign, too.

What police did in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina was even worse than in Watertown, MA. There, officers simply went into homes and confiscated weapons they uncovered.

Thousands of weapons – legally obtained and owned – were simply grabbed from citizens after New Orleans Police Superintendent P. Edwin Compass III announced, “Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons.”

One man at a post-Katrina meeting assembled in conjunction with the National Rifle Association said, “The bottom line is this. Once they did it, they set a precedent. And what we’ve got to be sure [of] is that the precedent stops here.”

In a series of videos, the National Rifle Association has documented the stunning weapons grab by police in New Orleans, assembling videos that show them physically taking weapons from individuals, including one woman who was stunned when officers threw her against her kitchen wall because she had a small handgun for self-defense.

Go to the WND article for the videos. Here’s one I found on YouTube:

DHS To Buy 360,000 More Rounds of Hollow Point Ammunition

Arms build-up continues as Congress demands answers
Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
March 25, 2013

While the Department of Homeland Security continues to ignore members of Congress demanding to know why the federal agency is engaged in an apparent arms build-up, the DHS has just announced it plans to purchase another 360,000 rounds of hollow point ammunition to add to the roughly 2 billion bullets already bought over the past year.

The DHS has now purchased over 2 billion rounds of ammo.

A solicitation on the Federal Business Opportunities website details the DHS’ plan to purchase 360,000 rounds of “Commercial leaded training ammo (CLTA) Pistol .40 caliber 165 grain, jacketed hollow point.” The bullets are to be delivered to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, New Mexico, the same destination for 240,000 hollow point rounds which were purchased only last month.

Although the DHS has attempted to explain its mammoth purchase of ammunition by claiming the bullets are being acquired in bulk to save money and that they are for training purposes only, this has been disputed by reputable voices such as former Marine Richard Mason, who told reporters with WHPTV News in Pennsylvania earlier this month, “We never trained with hollow points, we didn’t even see hollow points my entire four and a half years in the Marine Corps.”

Hollow point bullets are almost twice as expensive as full metal jackets, therefore the DHS’ explanation that it is buying huge quantities in bulk to “save money” doesn’t make sense.

As we reported yesterday, concerns about the apparent arms build-up are growing, with retired United States Army Captain Terry M. Hestilow sending a letter to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) warning that the ammo purchases represent “a bold threat of war by that agency (DHS), and the Obama administration, against the citizens of the United States of America.”

Questions from members of Congress about why the federal agency is buying up ammo, exacerbating shortages across the country, have been met with silence.

– Kansas Congressman Timothy Huelscamp said last week that threats should be made to withdraw funding from the DHS if it didn’t explain why it was purchasing so many bullets, remarking, “They have no answer for that question. They refuse to answer to answer that.”

– Earlier this month, New Jersey Congressman Leonard Lance said, “Congress has a responsibility to ask Secretary Napolitano as to exactly why these purchases have occurred,” signaling his intention to get answers.

– Californian Congressman Doug LaMalfa and 14 of his House colleagues have written a letter to the Department of Homeland Security asking if the purchases are, “being conducted in a manner that strategically denies the American people access to ammunition.”

Wants your complete cooperation.

Wants your complete cooperation.

Although members of Congress are treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves, the mainstream and leftist media have attempted to ridicule the entire issue as a conspiracy theory, with Atlantic Wire even suggesting that the story had its origins in a debunked email, a report that completely failed to even mention the admitted fact that the DHS had purchased around 2 billion bullets.

While the DHS continues to purchase bullets in large quantities, police departments have been forced to barter amongst each other in a desperate scramble to meet their ammo needs.

For reference, here is the above poem in its entirety:

For Whom the Bell Tolls  – by John Donne

No man is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manner of thine own
Or of thine friend’s were.
Each man’s death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
