Despite more newly-enacted state gun control laws, Seattle’s gun violence is up

In May 2019 demorat Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bunch of new gun control laws claiming that they would “improve gun safety overall.”

Some of the laws included prohibiting firearms to persons under 21, temporarily seizing guns from people a judge deems a threat to themselves or others, and requiring certain secured firearm storage or trigger-locks.

The following month I did a blog post highlighting how ineffectively those new laws were preventing gun violence. See my post here.

On Friday, Seattle presented hard data that confirms the state’s new gun control laws are having ZERO effect on criminal behaviors in their city.

MyNorthwest.com reports that the Seattle Police Department (SPD) released its annual report on gun violence, and statistics show the number of shootings in 2019 is up from 2018. One of the causes is an increase in gang-related violence.

SPD records showed there were 332 shooting incidents in the city last year, an increase from 313 in 2018. There were also five more fatal shootings year over year.

At least the Department is solving 72% of the crimes, which is above the national average. Compare that to Chiraq’s dismal 12.2% clearance rate.

Washington aims to make it tougher to evict tenants; after all, a month of unpaid rent is just an “inconvenience” for a landlord

Demorat-run Seattle/King County has a terrible homeless problem that has been festering for years.

It’s been 15 years since King County developed their ten-year plan to end homelessness. As is typical with demorats, they never look to address the core issues of a problem. Rather, they seek out ways to control other individuals’ rights and, of course, get more taxpayer dollars.

Back in 2007 Metropolitan King County Council called for a study of the individuals with mental illness and chemical dependency involved in the justice, emergency services and homeless services systems. They found that the incidence of recent incarceration among homeless adults receiving publicly funded mental health treatment was four times the incidence of those who are not homeless.

So the bureaucrats are fully away that drug abuse and mental illness are part of the homelessness problem.

Also part of the problem? The criminal justice system and lack of accountability that the homeless criminals face. A quick search on our site for “repeat offender” will show plenty of examples of Seattle/King County’s efforts in “criminal justice reform.”

A King County Superior Court judge recently commented on why repeat offenders receive no punishment saying, “We’re just talking about property crime.”

So the bureaucrats are fully away that the criminal justice system does not work in favor of the law-abiding and taxpaying citizen.

Now bureaucrats have a new plan to address homelessness: Give renters more protections.

As reported by MyNorthwest.com: “The proposed standards would require landlords to give good or just cause, covering up to 18 cited issues by Tenants Union, including nonpayment of rent, noncompliance with lease terms, and chronically late rent payments, among other reasons. Landlords would not be able to evict for retaliatory or discriminatory reasons. Recent studies have indicated a correlation between evictions and growing rates of homelessness.

In their article I clicked on the “recent studies have indicated a correlation” to find out exactly who authored this study. Imagine my surprise when I found it to be the Seattle Women’s Commission and Housing Justice Project (a homelessness prevention program of the King County Bar Association). Not exactly non-partisan entities without any direct stake in the homeless matter.

You can read the full report at the MyNorthwest.com story.

Excerpts from their study:

From the Executive Summary: While a month of unpaid rent might be an inconvenience for a landlord, an eviction can mean life or death for a tenant. National research shows eviction is one of the leading causes of homelessness. Despite these serious societal consequences of systemic evictions, a deep analysis of eviction causes, process, and outcomes has never before been carried out in Seattle. Because the city is experiencing an unprecedented housing crisis, and we knew anecdotally that this crisis disproportionately impacts marginalized communities such as women, people of color, and people in poverty, the Seattle Women’s Commission (SWC) and the King County Housing Justice Project (HJP) decided to undertake research to fill this gap.”

Rebalance the Scales of Justice: Limit non-rent charges and the imposition of attorney’s fees, expand courthouse-based resources to include social services and financial assistance, and limit reporting of landlord-tenant debt unless reduced to judgment.”

Make it Possible to Pay Rent: Require landlords to offer payment plans, increase time periods to cure nonpayment of rent, and increase subsidies to tenants at risk of eviction.”

I was a landlord in King County until I sold my property in 2015. I can tell you that missing payment for one month of rent and covering other charges would have been a MAJOR inconvenience that would have caused me great stress. Not all landlords are flush with bundles of cash to cover their mortgages in case tenants can’t pay. And I know of ZERO mortgage companies that would accept a “payment plan.”

But Seattle/King County bureaucrats don’t think that way. That would require addressing core issues of those who they seek to keep dependent upon the government. And it wouldn’t allow them the opportunity to seek more taxpayer dollars in the name of “solving” a crisis.

Guess how much WA State governor wants to spend to “fight” homelessness

Liberal utopia of Seattle/Q13 Fox photo

You will not believe the amount of taxpayer dollars Gov. Jay Inslee wants to spend to fight homelessness in his state. Actually, it’s not surprising at all.

What IS surprising is the small impact the MILLIONS of dollars will have in solving anything associated with the homeless industrial complex.

You can read the whole story about the governor’s plan here at MyNorthwest.com. I’m just pulling excerpts of the governor’s initiatives. Take a look at these numbers (which are in addition to Seattle and King County’s numbers):

Total amount the governor will include in 2020 supplemental budget: $146 million
Total cost over three years: $300 million
$66 million to “reduce the point-in-time count of unsheltered individuals by 1,890
$15.4 million to provide permanent supportive housing for 1,080 people

It’s been four years since former Seattle Mayor Ed Murray declared a homeless emergency. And it’s been 14 years since King County developed their ten-year plan to end homelessness. During this whole time, the area has been run by progressives.

In Seattle/King County they currently spend ONE BILLION taxpayer dollars annually to “fight” homelessness.

Guess the plan is to never actually “end” homelessness but rather just “fight” it. Courtesy of taxpayers, of course.

Washington State governor and AG want to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee speaks, Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017, at the Capitol in Olympia, Wash. Inslee was urging the passage of bills enforcing safe gun storage and enhanced background checks when buying or selling assault weapons. (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren) ORG XMIT: WATW110

This past Thursday, Washington State AG Bob Ferguson made an announcement, along with support from Governor Jay Inslee, that they will seek to ban assault weapons. They also want to propose limits to magazine capacity in order to combat mass shootings.

Excerpts from his announcement:

“In addition to renewing calls to ban the sale of these dangerous weapons and limits to magazine capacity, Ferguson is also proposing legislation to add background checks on ammunition sales after federal rules are changed, in addition to other safety measures to keep ammunition out of the hands of dangerous individuals.

“This is the time to take action on common sense measures that will save lives. We should be making it harder for those who want to inflict mass violence and destruction upon innocent people,” Inslee said. “By limiting magazine capacity and banning assault weapons, we can work toward a day where no one in Washington state loses a friend or family members to senseless gun violence.”

Ferguson and Inslee are proposing joint-request legislation to limit the capacity of magazines sold in Washington to 10-rounds.

The bill’s definition to assault weapons is similar to the definition used by the seven other states that have banned the sale of assault weapons — semi-automatic weapons that contain at least one military-style feature. Those laws have survived legal challenge.”

There’s also this stupid part of his proposal: “The bill makes it illegal for violent felons not legally allowed to buy guns to buy ammo, and prohibits firearms dealers from knowingly selling ammo to the or anyone else not legally allowed to buy a gun.”

Such a vague description of what a “military-style feature” is in this announcement. My guess is this feature:

Because we all know what the end goal is of gun-grabbers: Take away your guns.

How’s that gun control working in Washington State after stricter laws implemented?

In June of this year I questioned how Washington State’s new gun laws were working.

Turns out the criminals don’t care about gun laws as I noted that Seattle had more than one reported shooting a day somewhere in the city during the month of May.

June wasn’t so better either with a rash of shootings.

This past weekend, Washington State’s gun control laws didn’t stop the criminals as there were four separate shootings in King County. Read about the shootings here.

What do ‘ya know: WA State gun control laws haven’t prevented increase in shootings in Tacoma

From my blog post on June 27 of this year:

“At the end of May this year I did a blog post entitled, “How’s that gun control working in Washington State since new laws were passed?”

I outlined how former presidential candidate demorat Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bunch of new gun control laws on May 7 claiming that they would “improve gun safety overall.”

The new laws included:

Statutory law prohibits firearms to persons under 21 years of age.
Police may temporarily seize guns from people a judge deems a threat to themselves or others.

In November 2018, voters approved I-1639 that includes increased background checks, firearm safety training, waiting periods before semiautomatic assault rifles may be purchased or delivered, and require certain secured firearm storage or trigger-locks, and criminalize certain firearm storage if it results in unauthorized use.

Of course these laws did NOTHING to stop criminals. As I noted in my post, “Seattle had more than one reported shooting a day somewhere in the city during the month of May; two of those incidents resulted in death.”

Guess the criminals missed the memo because gun violence continues in Washington state.

Read about all the shootings that still occurred despite the new gun control laws in Washington State.

The city of Tacoma has experienced an “uptick” in murders. On average, there are 16 murders every year in Tacoma. In 2019, there has already been 22.

Tacoma Police Chief Don Ramsdell discussed a recent uptick in violence in a video on Twitter where he discussed their strategy to mitigate the violence. Pay attention criminals as there’s an important hashtag: #TacomaCeaseFire!

Last Wednesday, residents of Tacoma tried another strategy to get criminals to stop shooting: A ‘Drums not Guns’ march! From a KOMO News report:

“The protest called “Drums not Guns” was a march for peace after a violent summer with countless shootings involving youth and young adults, many of which were fatal.

The march for peace is a first step for change, according to demonstrators.

“I think some things are really going to change around here. At some point, we got to say enough is enough,” said Danny Leonard, who is a member of the Puyallup Tribe.

Neighbors are calling for a stronger transit system, safer streets and sidewalks. Plus, more programs and space to support and build community.

“Kids are afraid. Kids don’t have safe places. Safe people in their lives, and we need all of our kids and our families and community members to have safe places and safe people in their lives,” said Smith.

Smith added that East Tacoma needs more resources and places for kids to go.

The gathering and march is the first step that neighbors hope will be the start of improving in the community they love.”

Read all about the march here.

While the demorats who rule Washington state pretend that gun control laws will solve all their problems, they ignore the REAL issue: gang violence.

Jason Rantz reports for MyNorthwest.com that Loretta Cool, spokesperson for the Tacoma Police Department, told the Tacoma News Tribune that “gang violence has not increased.” However, gang members are involved.

The mental gymnastics are fantastic on this spin:

“What we’re seeing is people who are identified as gang members are some of the people who are committing crimes,” Cool insisted, “but the crimes are more interpersonal relationship related or just that individual that’s committing a crime and though that person may be identified as a gang member, that doesn’t mean that it’s a gang-related crime.”

Read the whole baloney here.

If you insist on being politically correct yet can’t identify the REAL source of a problem, you can never solve it.

But that’s the typical strategy of progressives: Pretend to be doing something (in a PC-manner, of course), implement new laws to stop associated bad behaviors and spend lots of taxpayer dollars while trying to solve said problem.

When that solution isn’t achievable by your “compassionate” and “caring” policies, then maybe you can implement your original, ultimate objective.

This is rich: WA state Gov. Inslee calls for oversight of private psychiatric hospitals while state hospital is decertified and defunded

Gov. Jay Inslee with his buddy Obama

It is interesting how demorats always deflect from their own incompetencies.

Failed demorat presidential candidate Washington State Governor Jay Inslee is calling on his state Department of Health to strengthen enforcement of private psychiatric hospitals. This is in response to a Seattle Times investigation.

From the Seattle Times story:

“The directive marks a shift in tone for Inslee, who has supported the expansion of private psychiatric hospitals in a state that has long been short of treatment options. In his letter, the governor suggested revisiting the role of for-profit psychiatric companies.

“I am deeply troubled at the prospect of corporations exploiting gaps in our oversight systems to profit from vulnerable Washingtonians and hard-working hospital staff,” he wrote.

As private psychiatric hospitals have expanded in Washington state, with more than 850 new beds approved since 2012, some have repeatedly failed to meet regulatory requirements and put patients and their own staff at risk, The Times found. Hospitals are only required to disclose specific types of serious harm to the Department of Health and face no penalty for failing to do so in Washington, unlike other states.

Private psychiatric hospitals reported 15 “adverse events” over three years to the department. Over the same period, The Times found 350 incidents in which patients or staff were assaulted, suffered an injury, attempted suicide, escaped or died suddenly.”

As governor, Inslee is responsible for the oversight of Western State Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital with more than 800 beds and 2,200 employees in Lakewood.

Did you know that in June 2018 Western lost their certification and $53 million in federal funding? From King 5:

“Despite “significant strides” at Western State Hospital, Washington state’s largest psychiatric hospital lost its federal certification and $53 million in federal funds Monday after failing to achieve basic health and safety standards.

Western State failed to pass a May survey by federal inspectors with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Surveyors judged the hospital based on 26 conditions, which included inspecting wards and treatment plans and interviewing staff.

“CMS has determined that Western’s progress did not constitute substantial compliance with the Medicare conditions of participations,” the letter from CMS read.

The requirements were laid out in a Systems Improvements Agreement between the federal government and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) that began in June 2016.

The 800-plus bed facility has been plagued by problems for years that ranged from assaults on health-care workers to escapes by dangerous patients.”

Read the whole King 5 story here.

Issues at Western include the following: Inappropriate use of restraints, faulty sprinklers, lack of fire drills, development of patient treatment plans and physical therapy plans.

Of course, DSHS had no comment on those issues at the time because they had not been able to perform any reviews of the complaints.

Under Gov. Inslee’s watch, Western has been plagued with assaults – and even a murder allegation. Some of the problems at Western:

In February this year, a woman claimed her father was a victim of murder from a patient that was released from Western. Her father was attacked at an adult family home and perhaps hit in the face with a coffee mug by a man who had been at the hospital and known for violent behavior.

A nurse lost part of her ear when she was assaulted by a patient and is now suing for $5 million.

In December 2018, KOMO reported that assaults had surged at Western. Faculty blamed the hospital administration saying they are moving dangerous patients into less-secure wards and leaving them there after they attack others.

In March this year, Western was fined $4,900 for failing to protect workers from assaults by patients. The L&I investigation found that DSHS— which runs the hospital — “did not do everything reasonably necessary to protect employees” from workplace violence.

Wait, there’s more detail about the deplorable conditions at Western that occurred under the “leadership” of Gov. Jay Inslee. Excerpts from NWNewsNetwork.org:

“A “root cause” report in 2016 identified ineffective management, staff reductions and turnover leading to patients who felt “neglected” and a “culture of helplessness” among staff. A review by the Department of Corrections also found numerous security gaps including 25,000 unaccounted for master keys.

Over the last couple of years, the state has accrued more than $55 million in fines for not meeting court-ordered timelines to evaluate and treat criminal defendants who are not competent to stand trial. That has led to mentally ill defendants languishing in jail cells while they await those services from the state hospitals.”

Read all the details here.

Gov. Jay Inslee peddling some BS…

While the good governor goes on about demanding oversight for private psychiatric hospitals in his state, maybe he and DSHS should lead by example and get the affairs of their mental hospital in order.

Presidential candidate Jay Inslee granted clemency twice to “three-strikes” criminal; perp is now on the run

Habitual criminal Tracy Hoggatt on the lam/Washington State DOC photo

Washington State has a “three-strikes” or “persistent offenders” law meant to confine life-long criminals for punishment of their violent crimes (and to deter other criminals). The one “out” for these criminals is clemency.

In reality, the moonbats that run Washington State care nothing about actually holding perpetual criminals accountable for their actions. See the following examples:

Insanity in Seattle: Homeless man attempts to kidnap child. Guess how many previous arrests/convictions he has…
Liberal utopia of Seattle: Drugstore employees subject to violent assaults as criminals become more brazen
Liberal utopia of Seattle: Prostitutes flooding the streets due to lack of law enforcement
Homeless Seattle man, accused of a stabbing, on the loose after failing to show up for court-appointed treatment program

Last week a three-striker offender was released from the Yakima County jail, after being granted clemency TWICE by Gov. Jay Inslee (demorat). He boarded a bus in Yakima County (presumably with no guardian) but officers were waiting at his destination.

The perp failed to show up to the mandated transition house and has now disappeared. They believed he jumped off in Seattle.

More details from Q13Fox:

“Now, a Department of Corrections warrant has been issued for his arrest and officers are asking for the public’s help to locate him.

Hoggatt had been serving a life sentence after convictions for Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree and Theft 2nd Degree. He was released on clemency on July 23, 2018.

The news article included Hoggatt’s statement to the clemency board. “I will not let any one of you in the community down,” Hoggatt wrote. “I will demonstrate my ability to be a law-abiding, successful, responsible, trustworthy, and resourceful citizen. The possibilities are endless if we trust in God.”

According to The Daily News Online, Gov. Jay Inslee commuted Hoggatt’s sentence on Jan 16, 2017, finding that Hoggatt had “taken steps to turn his life around and developed a strong sense of empathy.”

A little more than three months later, Hoggatt was taken into custody again on October 31, 2018 for violating the terms of his release by consuming alcohol, not living at an approved address and associating with a known criminal/drug user. He remained in custody for 10 months until the Governor and clemency board reviewed the case and released him again on Tuesday.

Hoggatt has history of eluding law enforcement. In 1995, Hoggatt went to Canada for 6 months to avoid trial in Cowlitz County for a burglary because he was facing life without the possibility of parole. He was arrested when he returned in 1996 and Burglary and Bail Jumping.

ICE releases list of illegal aliens accused of rape and murder who were released by sanctuary city policies

Demorats working hard to protect illegal alien criminals and endangering law-abiding citizens.

From Daily Mail: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has released a list of criminal illegal aliens who were released into communities by sanctuary city policies, as federal officials try to convince cities and states to assist immigration enforcement.

The list released last week highlights cases in Oregon, which has the oldest sanctuary state law in the country, and Washington state, which passed an expanded sanctuary state policy last month.

Washington’s new sanctuary law is among the strongest in the nation, barring local police from assisting federal immigration enforcement officers in any way.

In signing the law, Democratic Governor Jay Inslee said, ‘We will not be complicit in the Trump administration’s depraved efforts to break up hard-working immigrant and refugee families.’

ICE argues that sanctuary policies, which bar local officials from notifying federal officials before they release illegal aliens from detention, allow dangerous criminals back into communities, and force ICE agents to conduct arrests at homes and workplaces rather than the controlled environment of a jail.

Illegal alien Fidel Lopez

Oregon jail releases Mexican man who raped dog

In February, Fidel Lopez, 52, pleaded guilty to raping his fiancee’s Lhasa Apso mix in Portland, Oregon.

While he was being held in the Multnomah County Jail, ICE officials interviewed him and determined that he was an illegally present Mexican citizen. The same day, ICE lodged an immigration detainer on Lopez for violating immigration laws.

In April 2019, Lopez was sentenced to 60 days in jail, the maximum allowed under state law for animal sexual abuse, and released on time served.

ICE says that the county jail did not honor the immigration detainer and released him without notice to immigration officials.

After his release, ICE apprehended Lopez at his residence and served him a notice to appear. He is currently being held at ICE’s Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma pending immigration proceedings.

‘There is an inherent increase in risk to personnel and bystanders when ICE officers and agents must go out into the community to proactively locate these previously detained criminal aliens,’ ICE said in a statement.

Honduran man ‘kills and dismembers his cousin’ after Washington cops released him without notifying ICE

In October 2017, Rosalio Ramos-Ramos was arrested in Kent, Washington on suspicion of methamphetamine possession after calling 911 and making bizarre confessions to involvement in a supposed sexual assault.

While being booked into King County Jail, Ramos-Ramos made statements that he wanted to die and began fighting with corrections officers, injuring five of them, and was hospitalized for a head injury he himself sustained while officers subdued him.

After seeing his named on the local booking log, ICE identified Ramos-Ramos as an illegally present Honduran citizen with prior felony convictions and four prior removals from the U.S.

ICE told the local police department that policy barred them from arresting people at a hospital, and issued a detainer asking the local cops to hand him over for deportation.

However, Kent police were not on hand when Ramos-Ramos regained consciousness after a medically induced coma and walked free from the hospital.

In January 2018, Ramos-Ramos was arrested again in Seattle on suspicion of killing his cousin, dismembering the body, and stuffing the parts in a suitcase. He was charged with murder and is being held in the King County Jail on a $2 million bond. ICE has lodged another detainer with local jail officials.

Illegal alien Martin Gallo-Gallardo

In March 2018, Martin Gallo-Gallardo was arrested in Portland, Oregon and charged with domestic violence. While he was detained at the Multnomah County Jail, ICE identified him as a citizen of Mexico who was unlawfully present in the U.S. and lodged an immigration detainer.

ICE says that jail officials did not honor the immigration detainer and released the convicted criminal two days later, without notifying ICE. Following his release, ICE made multiple, unsuccessful attempts to locate and arrest the Gallo-Gallardo.

In October 2018, Gallo-Gallardo was arrested again, this time on felony murder charges for allegedly killing his wife. An autopsy found the wife died from blunt-force head trauma and multiple stab wounds.

Following the murder, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office blamed ICE and said federal agents should have tracked down and arrested Gallo-Gallardo after he was released. Gallo-Gallardo is being held in the Clackamas County Jail without bond on the murder charge. ICE has lodged another detainer with local officials.

Convicted rapist ‘returns to victimize same wheelchair-bound woman’ after Seattle officials release him in defiance of ICE detainer

Mexican national Francisco Carranza-Ramirez, 35, is currently on the run from cops in Seattle after police said that he returned and raped the same wheelchair-bound victim he was previously convicted of sexually assaulting.

Police say that the initial rape occurred in September 2018 when Carranza-Ramirez saw the woman and followed her into her apartment building, attacking her in front of her two-year-old son. The woman managed to surreptitiously dial 911 and left the line open during the attack, and Carranza-Ramirez was caught in the act when police responded.

Carranza-Ramirez entered an Alford plea to the rape charge in February, admitting a jury would likely find him guilty. He is a Mexican national present in the country illegally.

He was released from jail last Thursday, on a judge’s admonishment to return to Mexico of his of own volition. Instead, police say that he returned to the 32-year-old woman’s home and proceeded to strangle, beat and rape her in front of her toddler son.

Carranza-Ramirez is currently being sought, and officials in Seattle now believe he may have returned to Mexico. US Marshals are helping sheriff’s detectives and working with Mexican authorities to track down and arrest Carranza-Ramirez.
