Claro que si: New York approves driver’s licenses for illegal aliens

I’m sure there will be no chance of fraud involved with this move. Oh wait…

From NY Post: A loophole in the new law granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants could allow hundreds of thousands of people to fraudulently register to vote in New York, according to critics, the state Board of Elections and the bill’s own sponsor.

“[A] major concern is that many states, including New York, use their DMVs to enroll voters. Since New York does not have voter-identification laws like the majority of other states do, this bill increases the potential for voter fraud,” state Sen. Republican ¬M inority Leader John Flanagan (R–Suffolk) said Tuesday.

“This means that New York will soon have the most radical, open-ended law in the entire nation.”

The Green Light Bill, which passed the Senate 33-29 Monday and was signed by Gov. Cuomo, allows illegal immigrants to obtain “standard” state drivers’ licenses that can be used for identification and to board domestic flights.

But it is also the sole document required to register to vote, according to officials.

Even legislative sponsor Luis Sepúlveda (D-Bronx) admitted the provision could be abused. “Theoretically, they could have the ability to vote,” he said while arguing for the bill during a Monday hearing in Albany.

Voters need only provide a driver’s-license number to register to vote, according to BOE spokesman John Conklin. “If you have a driver’s license number, you basically stop there,” Conklin told The Post Tuesday of the vetting process.

Registrants are required to check a box swearing they are eligible to vote in the US, but “it’s ¬basically an honor system,” he said.

Anyone who fraudulently fills out a voter form is subject to state fines of up to $5,000 and four years in prison — as well as potential removal from the country by the feds, BOE reps said.

Sepúlveda said anyone who wants to commit voter fraud already can — and has noted that instances are extremely rare. “Anybody could theoretically commit voter fraud,” he said. “You could get a form and register to vote, put any name — a teenager could get a form . . . there’s nothing that is 100 percent foolproof.”

Meanwhile, Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns — who is responsible for processing county driver’s licenses — said Tuesday he’d ignore the law and file a legal challenge. “I will not be granting driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, he wrote in a letter to the Erie County Law Department.

The state DMV did not respond to requests for comment.

NYC accused man accused of stabbing pregnant girlfriend gets a pass on baby’s murder because of new abortion law

A very dangerous and slippery slope in New York now thanks to Governor Cuomo.

From NY Post: New York City Catholics and abortion opponents voiced outrage Saturday over the lack of justice for an unborn child who was killed in Queens.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown recently charged Anthony Hobson with murder for allegedly killing Jennifer Irigoyen on Feb. 3 — but said he couldn’t bring charges over her unborn child’s death due to a recent change in abortion law.

“It’s evil,” said a nurse attending Mass at the Church of St. Agnes in Midtown. “It’s a progressive slippery slope.”

“I’m enraged,” said Rose deMarco, 78, of Greenwich Village. “That was murder. [Hobson] murdered two people and he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”

Irigoyen, 35, was five months pregnant when Hobson, 48, allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the abdomen.

He was initially charged with abortion in the second degree, a felony under the state’s previous statues, as well as second-degree murder for Irigoyen’s death.

But the Queens DA’s office withdrew the abortion count when it learned the Reproductive Health Act, signed into law last month, moves abortion from the state’s criminal to public health codes.

That “means it’s open season on pregnant women in New York,” said Dennis Poust of the New York State Catholic Conference.

Lawmakers who argued against the bill in Albany said the Queens tragedy exposed the bill’s flaws.

At least 38 states and the federal government have made it a crime to kill a fetus against the mother’s wishes.

“The fact that this is no longer the case in New York shows how out of step this new law is both with the rest of America and with common sense,” said Rev. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life.

“With New York’s law, we’re saying you can take a life and escape any punishment,” said Assemblyman Brian Manktelow (R-Wayne County). “How as a society can you allow that to happen?”

Cuomo’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

Full-blown TDS: Gov. Cuomo to sue President Trump over hurricane response in Puerto Rico

Hey New Yorkers: This is your tax dollars at work.

Maybe the good mayor should be asking the Puerto Rican bureaucrats what’s up with the report from the New York Times about the containers of hurricane donations found rotting in a Puerto Rico parking lot?

From NY Post: Gov. Cuomo vowed Sunday to sue President Trump over the federal response to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico — accusing the president of violating the Constitution by abandoning residents of the American commonwealth.

Just days after vowing not to seek the White House in 2020, Cuomo repeatedly bashed Trump, portraying him as a racist bully during a speech at a predominantly Hispanic church in The Bronx.

Cuomo invoked both Trump’s proposed border wall with Mexico and his defense of white nationalists who staged a deadly rally last year in Charlottesville, Va. “Somebody has to stand up to this president. He is a bully,” Cuomo said.

“You know how they handle a bully in The Bronx? He puts a finger your chest, you put one right back.”

Cuomo also said Trump “never tried” to help Puerto Rican victims of last year’s Hurricane Maria, which struck the island on Sept. 20, saying, “They got a different level of care than Texas and Florida and other states.”

We’re going to hold ‘King’ Trump to the Constitution of the United States, and the Constitution said equal protection under the law. Puerto Rico did not receive equal protection under the law,” Cuomo said.

“We are going to sue President Trump. We are going to show this bully president that the law is the law.”

Cuomo, who got a standing ovation from the 300-plus congregants at the Heavenly Vision Christian Center, did not provide details of his planned legal action, or take questions afterward.

Trump last week lauded his administration’s handling of Hurricane Maria, a day after Gov. Ricardo “Ricky” Rossello Nevares raised the official storm-related death toll from 64 to 2,975.

“I think we did a fantastic job in Puerto Rico,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday. “We’re still helping Puerto Rico.”

Cuomo — currently seeking a third term in office — was joined at Sunday’s appearance by officials including New York Secretary of State Rosanna Rosado, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and US Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-Washington Heights).

During his only debate with Sept. 13 Democratic primary challenger and former “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon, Cuomo last week promised to serve a full four years in office if re-elected.

“The only caveat is if God strikes me dead,” he said Wednesday.
