Road to Obesity – Schoolhouse to Jailhouse

Despite the endless food stamp/EBT propaganda and PSAs starring Michelle Obama moaning about parents getting involved in good food choices, many American children receive their first two meals of the day at school, ending the day with a fast food/takeout  meal for dinner.
The website Fitflex.com discussing a recent study published “Physiology and Behavior” notes, ” What we eat influences how we act and feel. Besides supplying the vital energy and nutrients essential to life, food helps to regulate behavior by the way it affects certain chemicals active in the nervous system. These behaviors range from mental alertness to pain perception….
…. those consuming a high-carb diet showed increased insulin levels. Insulin is known to induce drowsiness, explaining why you may feel sleepy after a meal containing a high sugar content.

Every school district in the country has federally-subsidized free and reduced price food programs. The guidelines take from the Seattle School District website, children living in multi-generational households grossing over $5,000 a month qualify.
The menus are carefully planned to meet government-approved nutritional targets with carbs and diabetes in mind. This chart looks woefully short on protein and heavy on starchy carbs; but, it meets the government target.

My tax return was returned

Yesterday, I got a surprise in my mailbox.
I had been good this year and filed my taxes on time. But the IRS sent my Tax Return back!!
On the form listing all the reasons for tax returns to be returned, the IRS had checked off the box for “dependents”.
But on my tax return, I had dutifully followed the instruction to “List All Dependents”:

  • 12 million illegal immigrants
  • 3 million crack heads
  • 2 million people in over 243 prisons
  •  535 fools in the U.S. House and Senate
  • and one illegal Kenyan immigrant at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

But the IRS apparently finds my response inadequate. So I sent it back with a question:
“Did I forget someone?”
H/t our beloved Lady Wendy.

The Fall of America – in 12 striking graphs

A picture is worth a thousand words.
A few days ago, Jeff Gundlach gave a big presentation titled “Getting There,” to a group of investors at the New York Yacht Club.
Using a series of graphs, Gundlach showed how America got into the state in which we find ourselves. Here are some of the most evocative slides:

The Camel's Nose Is In Michigan's Tent

Michigan is the 8th largest state in the USA. Arabic is not among the state’s 10 largest reported ancestries of German (22.9%), Irish (12%), English (10.6%), Polish (9.1%), French/French Canadian (7%), Dutch (5.2%), Italian (4.9%), American (4.8%),
Scottish (2.5%), or Swedish (1.7%).
Out of Michigan’s total population of nearly 10 million (9,883, 640), only about 300,000 people (3.03%) are Arabic, who trace their descent from the Middle East.
The city of Dearborn (Michigan’s 8th largest city), however, has a sizeable Arab community. 33.4% of Dearborn’s total population of 97,775 in 2000 were Arabic, comprised of Assyrian/Chaldean/Syriac and Lebanese who had immigrated into Dearborn for jobs in the auto industry in the 1920s, along with more recent Yemenis and Iraqis.
Dearborn is the same city where in 2010, four Christians were arrested at the Arab-American Festival for distributing copies of the Gospel of John. The missionaries were peaceful, not violating any law, and were acting fully within our Constitution rights as U.S. citizens. Despite that, within a matter of three minutes, eight Dearborn police officers descended with lightning speed to surround and arrest the evangelists.
Thankfully, the Thomas More Law Center came to the defense of the Christians. On May 26, 2011, the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the city and police of Dearborn had violated the evangelists’ First Amendment right to freedom of speech.
But that court ruling hasn’t stopped Creeping Sharia — the increasing incursion of Islam — into America, and into Michigan in particular.
To begin with, despite the fact that America is up to our national eyeballs in debt, the federal government has been “resettling” tens of thousands of mainly Muslim refugees, many from Africa’s Somalia, into the United States in the past few years. That federal policy places great strains on local and state governments because it is they who bear the costs when those refugees are “resettled” in their communities. Obama exacerbates the problem with his plan to let in some 80,000 mainly Muslim refugees in fiscal year 2011. (Read more about this here.)
Now an e-mail forwarded to the Fellowship by our Anon alerts us to the following:

Muslim men are allowed to have as many as 4 wives. Many Muslims have immigrated into the U.S. with their multiple wives. But the U.S. does not allow multi marriages, so the man lists one wife as his, and signs the other wives as his “extended family” on welfare and other free government programs!

In Michigan when you call the Public Assistance office you are told to Press 1 for English. Press 2 for Spanish, or Press 3 for Arabic! Every time you add a new language to an American program it requires an additional number of persons fluent in that language to process those persons who refuse to learn English in order to live here at an additional cost to the taxpayer. Why are we even allowing persons to immigrate here who cannot provide for themselves, and putting them in our welfare system?

This seems to have happened clandestinely, for, as far as I know, no public announcement, or opportunity to vote on this was offered to the American people.

I followed up on that e-mail and checked it out of myself. You can as well:

Muslims at best comprise only 3.03% of Michigan’s population, but the state government is bending over backward to provide special Arabic-language publications to make it easier for them to assess welfare benefits. All at the taxpayer’s expense.
America. What a great stupid country!

Update (Feb. 9, 2016):

Snopes says it’s immigrant men can’t just claim extended family members as their dependents for welfare:

In order to receive these forms of assistance in Michigan, all residents (Muslim or not) must meet basic eligibility requirements, among which are that they are must be either U.S. citizens or have “acceptable alien status.” As a representative of the Michigan Department of Human Services told us, although immigrants may bring and/or sponsor relatives (e.g., spouses, children, parents, siblings) for permanent residency or citizenship in the U.S., they cannot claim multiple wives as relatives for that purpose because U.S. law does not recognize plural marriages.
Nothing codified in the law says that “Muslim men are allowed to have as many as 4 wives” and sign them all up “for welfare and other free government programs.” Although a Muslim man (or any other man) might live in a polygamous relationship after taking up residency in Michigan, he may only legally claim one wife as his own — he cannot simply list additional (not legally recognized) wives as members of an “extended household” and claim public assistance benefits for them on that basis. Those other “wives” would have to qualify for immigration/residency status (if they were immigrants to the U.S.) and apply for public assistance benefits on their own (as single mothers or heads of households), independent of their status as “unofficial” wives or household members of someone already residing in Michigan.

If I Were In Charge of Welfare

On November 18, 2010, the Waco Tribune-Herald (WTH) published a letter to the editor by Alfred W. Evans of Gatesville. Since its publication, the letter has gone viral.
But blogs that republished Mr. Evans’ letter do not give the URL or a link. To ensure the letter’s authenticity, I went searching on the newspaper’s website. I can confirm that the letter is authentic. See this search page, showing “Put me in charge of welfare” as among the letters to the editor on November 18, 2010. See also this search page, showing guest columnist David Price snarkily rebutting Evans’ letter. (To assess the letter on WTH’s website, you must be a paid subscriber or, minimally, pay $1.99 for a one-day pass.)

Waco Tribune-Herald, Nov. 18, 2010
Put me in charge

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”
Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND while you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
Alfred W. Evans

Michelle’s Africa Boondoggle Costs Taxpayers $800,000

Michelle, mom, & daughters on safari in South Africa's Madikwe Game Reserve

Boondoggle – n.: An unnecessary or wasteful project or activity.

America is broke. 1 of every 4 homes are underwater; 1 of every 8 Americans are on food stamps; unemployment is stuck at an official 9.1%; and our national debt is approaching $14.5 trillion. (For more on America’s indebtedness, see Tony Whitcomb’s blog here.)

But Michelle Obama thinks it’s just dandy to go on an African boondoggle that costs American taxpayers an estimated $800,000. And what was the purpose of the trip? — to promote “youth leadership, education, health and wellness” in southern Africa, according to the White House.

The UK’s Daily Mail reports, June 28, 2011, that according to Whitehousedossier.com, Michelle’s trip to South Africa and Botswana last week could cost as much as $800,000 to taxpayers — those 53% of Americans suckers who still pay income tax.

This is how the $800,000 break down:

  • Michelle’s jet plane, Air Force 2, costs in the region of $12,723 per hour. When the distance travelled and flight speed of the plane are put together, the cost of Air Force 2 for the whole trip could work out to be a cool $430,000.
  • A military cargo plane usually goes with the First Lady on foreign trips in order to bring along cars and other large items. The DOD charges other federal agencies $12,723 per hour for the use of a C-32 plane, the same model as the one Michelle was ferried about on during her trip. That could easily add on another $200,000 to the cost.
  • Add to the above the cost of local transportation; Secret Service protection; food for Michelle, her mother, her two daughters and two of their cousins, and staff members; and the cost of pre-trip preparations.

As Michelle Marie Antoinette would say: “Let them eat cake!”

Michelle's $1,000 Totebag

Are the Obamas tone-deaf or do they just not care?
At a time when:

Michelle Antoinette was spotted last Monday, March 7, 2011, coming out a huge gas-guzzling carbon-spewing SUV carrying this $1,000 totebag:

The teal-colored bag is by designer Reed Krakoff who has stores in only the swankiest locales in the U.S. and across world, such as 831 Madison Avenue in New York.
Michelle’s bag is the RK Ribbon Large Tote, Style #15813:

  • Hand-burnished leather
  • Black nickel hardware
  • Inside front split pocket and back zip pocket
  • Twill fabric lined
  • Height: 12″; Width: 16″; Depth: 6.5″

You too can get one at Krakoff’s website for $990, plus shipping. Sadly, the teal color is all sold out, but if you hurry, you can still get it in sepia or smoke!
Let them eat cake!

Amerika's Dependent Class of Midnight Shoppers

For once, I find myself lost for words.
This is happening in America: People so dependent on food stamps and other welfare monies, who live from handout to mouth, that they do their grocery shopping at the stroke of midnight when those government-issued electronic checks are paid into their accounts.

Midnight shopper Pia James, 55, lives on disability.

Midnight grocery runs capture economic desperation

By ANNE D’INNOCENZIO and DENA POTTER, Associated Press Oct 6, 2010

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Once a month, just after midnight, the beeping checkout scanners at a Walmart just off Interstate 95 come alive in a chorus of financial desperation. Here and at grocery stores across the country, the chimes come just after food stamps and other monthly government benefits drop into the accounts of shoppers who have been rationing things like milk, ground beef and toilet paper and can finally stock up again.
Shoppers mill around the store after 11 p.m., killing time until their accounts are replenished. When midnight strikes, they rush for the checkout counter.
“The kids are sleeping, so we go do what we’ve gotta do. Money is tight,” Martin Young said as he and his wife pushed two carts piled high with ground beef, toilet paper and other items. The couple said they need food-stamp benefits, which are electronically deposited onto debit cards, because his job as a restaurant server doesn’t quite cover expenses for their five children. “We try to get here between 10:30 and 11 because we know we’ve got a lot of stuff to get. That way by 12 o’clock we’re at the line cashing out and done,” he said.

Another midnight shopper

More than a year after the technical end of the Great Recession, millions of Americans still have a hard time stretching their dollars until the first of the month, or even the next payday.
One in seven Americans lives in poverty, and more than 41 million are on food stamps, a record. Last year the figure was about 35 million.
As a result, there are more scenes like the one last week at a 24-hour Kroger in Cincinnati. As the final hours of September ticked down, about five dozen cars were in the parking lot. It’s much slower on normal weeknights.
