Man who advocated for immigrants killed by illegal alien who was ordered to be deported 8 months ago

Sean Buchanan: Permanently separated from his family

If you’re wondering what type of immigrants he probably advocated for, keep in mind that legal immigrants don’t need an advocate.

From Daily Mail: A staunch supporter of the rights of immigrants – and a married father of five – was killed last week when an illegal immigrant from El Salvador facing deportation crashed into his motorcycle in Colorado.

Sean Buchanan, 45, was driving northbound on Highway 83 on August 2 when Colorado State Patrol say a southbound truck operated by Miguel Ramirez Valiente went off the side of the road, then over-corrected into the wrong lane and crashed into Buchanan’s bike, killing him.

Valiente, an undocumented immigrant who was slated for deportation eight months earlier, was charged with misdemeanor careless driving with a revoked license in the deadly accident.

In an ironic twist, Buchanan was known among friends a passionate advocate for all immigrants.

Officials do not suspect that drugs, alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the collision, reported The Colorado Springs Gazette.

Valiente has a criminal record in Colorado that includes a 2018 conviction for a DUI charge, which earned him a year’s probation and the revocation of his license, and a guilty plea to a charge of reckless endangerment in a child neglect case.

On August 1, less than 24 hours before the deadly crash that killed Buchanan, Valiente’s probation was extended because he had failed to complete his court-ordered treatment program and community service.

He made national headlines in January when he sought sanctuary at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in January to avoid deportation to El Salvador during the federal government shutdown. ‘I can’t be separated from them,’ he said at a press conference at the time, according to The Denver Channel. ‘I have always worked hard to support my family, and they depend on me.’

But according to a close acquaintance of Valiente’s speaking to The Denver Channel on condition of anonymity, the reality of his life was far from the public image he had sought to create. ‘This family deserves to know who they’re dealing with,’ she said. ‘He’s an alcoholic and an abuser.’

The woman argued that the fatal accident that took Buchanan’s life could have been prevented, especially given Valiente’s history of run-ins with the law.

‘My personal opinion is that we don’t do enough to stop this kind of thing because it could have been stopped,’ she said. ‘You’re here and you’re a hard worker and you’re not causing trouble and doing bad things, that’s fine, but he had already been in trouble, several times, and now we have a death because of it.’

Buchanan had just started a new job in communications. His wife of 16 years, Kathy Wierenga Buchanan, is the author of The Brio series of books for teenage girls, and a writer and director for Adventures in Odyssey, an Evangelical Christian radio show produced by the conservative organization Focus on the Family.

The Buchanans have five children: daughters Jasyln, 15, Maleah, 12 and Bella, 10, and two sons they adopted from Burundi, eight-year-old Michla and six-year-old Divin.

Washington State to release man early who committed horrific hate crime (after racking up 17 felonies)

Progressives claim to be proponents and champions of defending minorities against hate crimes. Yet when it comes to actually punishing those responsible for their acts, the justice systems in place tell a different story.

Back in March of this year, a white man beat an Indian-American man very badly while calling him “blackie.”

The victim, Sandeep Ray, was beaten by William Kraft, a man who had racked up 17 felonies in 13 years. KIRO 7 News had this story about Ray’s beating:

Kraft kicked Ray in the head as he laid on the ground. Then took off his shirt and used it to strangle Ray. Then while on all fours, he started choking Ray with his hands. A bystander finally stopped the attack.

Kraft’s mother and sister plead for leniency Friday. “He has had mental illness and he’s tried to self-medicate with drugs. And also the abuse was mentioned when he was younger,” said Lisa Kraft, his mom.

“This awful thing that William did is not a reflection of who my brother is,” said Catherine Kraft, his sister.

And Kraft apologized for his crimes. “I wake up every day and it just doesn’t seem real. So I’d like to very sincerely apologize to Mr. Ray,” he said.

The judge acknowledged it all — but also noted Kraft’s criminal history and the severity of this crime.

Charging documents said, “The defendant has a criminal history which includes two counts of Assault 2 in 2004, Assault 3 in 2015, Malicious Mischief 3 in 2014, Obstructing in 2014, DUI in 2011. He has eight warrants since 2004.”

“This is your second strike,” said Judge John McHale. “It was an act of terror. So I’m going to follow the state’s recommendation,” he said, sentencing him to nearly five years in prison.”

Turns out this “act of terror” wasn’t bad enough to warrant the perp a full jail sentence. According to MyNorthwest.com, the perp will walk free a year earlier than expected.

The perp had given Mr. Ray a concussion and was unable to return to work for a week. Mr. Ray “remained in such excruciating pain for weeks afterward that he even thought at times, “[Kraft] should have killed me that night, then it would be over for me.”

The Washington State Department of Corrections is releasing the perp Kraft early because of “good behavior.”

You can see video of the attack here.

There are several lessons here: 1) conceal carry, 2) don’t rely on police to protect/save you, and 3) don’t count on liberal prosecutors to seek appropriate charges/convictions.

And don’t elect liberals who claim to have “a national reputation as a leader in effective criminal justice reform.”

Also, don’t elect liberals who refuse to acknowledge/take any action on the large number of repeat offenders within their jurisdiction.

It’s good to have friends in high places: SF mayor asks Gov. Brown to release her brother from prison

Mayor London Breed: Seeking release of her brother for an unfair sentence.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

From SF Gate: San Francisco Mayor London Breed has asked Gov. Jerry Brown to release her brother from prison, where he has served nearly two decades of a 44-year sentence for a manslaughter conviction in the death of a San Francisco woman, according to the mayor’s office.

Breed’s brother, Napoleon Brown, now 46, pushed 25-year-old Lenties White from a getaway car on the Golden Gate Bridge after an armed robbery in June 2000. She was struck by an oncoming drunken driver and died.

Breed sent a letter to Gov. Brown on Oct. 23 asking him to “consider leniency” and commute her brother’s prison sentence. The letter appears to have been sent on personal stationery, but the heading and the body of the letter reference her position as the city’s mayor.

The mayor’s letter was sent with similar messages of support from other family members, including Napoleon Brown’s mother, sister and cousin, as part of his application to have his sentence commuted, according to documents reviewed by The Chronicle.

The mayor’s letter to the governor was first reported Tuesday night by NBC Bay Area.

Napoleon Brown has served less than half of his 44-year-sentence for White’s death and the robbery of a Johnny Rockets restaurant on Chestnut Street in San Francisco.

Breed’s status as mayor could raise questions about whether the letter constitutes an improper attempt to use her status to influence the governor’s decision.

“I am very sorry for all the people I hurt with my crimes 18 years ago,” Napoleon Brown wrote in his letter to the governor, in which he details his efforts toward self-improvement while in prison. Though he blames his “crimes and bad behaviors” on addiction, he wrote, “I still take full and complete responsibility for all my actions.” And he asks for the opportunity to re-establish a relationship with his children.

In her letter to the governor, Breed said that “Napoleon struggled early on with a sense of hopelessness. And like many others, he developed a bad drug problem at an early age. His drug addiction led to a young life of crime.”

Breed has often portrayed her impoverished upbringing in Western Addition public housing as an example of overcoming obstacles to succeed in life, especially in a city with stark income disparities. In that narrative, she has mentioned that her sister died of a drug overdose and her brother was in prison.

Breed, 44, is two years younger than her brother. Her letter to the governor apparently contains the most information she has made public about his situation.

“Although I don’t believe the 44-year sentence was fair, I make no excuses for him,” Breed wrote. “His decisions, his actions, led him to the place he finds himself now. Still, I ask that you consider mercy, and rehabilitation.”

Documents contained in her brother’s commutation application indicate that his attorneys expected to negotiate with San Francisco prosecutors for a 20-year sentence, but the district attorney’s office would only consider a “package deal,” with both Napoleon Brown and his co-defendant, Sala Thorn, pleading guilty. Thorn wanted a trial, according to Brown’s commutation application.

Before she died from blunt force trauma and blood loss at a hospital, White told officers that Napoleon Brown had pushed her out of the getaway car she was driving, according to court documents filed in 2014 related to the case.

“Prison is not the place for him to stay clean, for him to make meaningful amends for his crimes, for him to pursue restorative justice,” Breed wrote in her letter.

The governor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Court records filed in federal court detail the moments leading up to White’s death. On June 19, 2000, Brown and Thorn, then 24, walked into the Johnny Rockets restaurant between midnight and 12:30 a.m. while employees were preparing to leave for the night. The two forced workers to lie facedown on the floor and pocketed more than $7,000 from a safe.

Police Officer Gary Watts told investigators that he saw both men “walking briskly” toward him on Chestnut Street soon after the robbery. One of the men was carrying a red bank deposit bag, and the pair turned the corner and ran to a white Ford Escort with its taillights on, Watts said.

White was behind the wheel. The men piled into the car on the passenger side and the car drove off. Watts pursued the car after hearing a radio dispatch report that police were responding to a robbery at the restaurant. He asked the California Highway Patrol for assistance in stopping the vehicle, then sped ahead of the car and stopped at a parking lot near the bridge and waited for the Ford to pass him, according to the court documents.

After the Ford passed him and traveled onto the bridge, Watts followed closely behind but did not flash his patrol lights on the vehicle, he told investigators. Soon after driving onto the bridge, the Ford pulled into the buffer lane in the middle of the bridge, the driver’s-side door opened, and White was pushed to the roadway, court records show. She lay sobbing facedown in the roadway, Watts said.

Watts told investigators that when he got out of his patrol car, he saw a man exit the passenger’s side of the Ford and walk toward the driver’s side. Watts said he told the man to lie on the ground, but he ignored the order, got back in the car and drove off.

Watts said he also yelled at White to get up, but she remained in the roadway and was struck by a Dodge Stratus. Its driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter.

Before dying, White managed to identify Napoleon Brown as the man who pushed her from the car, calling him by his nickname of “S.B.,” and told police where he lived, police said.

Illegal alien injures two teenage girls in hit & run – had previous DUI arrests in the US

lara-lozano-illegal
From KETV (Omaha, NE): An undocumented immigrant illegal alien is behind bars Thursday night after Omaha police said he fled the scene of a hit-and-run crash on Feb. 4.
Investigators said 31-year-old Alejandro D Lara-Lozano was arrested Monday at a home in Omaha. They believe he was planning to head to Mexico.
Madison Reed, 16, and a friend were driving near Oak View Mall when the crash happened. OPD said Lara-Lozano slammed into her car head on and ran away. “I was just horrified, you know, at the condition of my granddaughter’s car … how they survived this accident I’ll never know,” said Joan Reed, Madison Reed’s grandmother.
KETV spoke with Joan Reed over the phone Thursday. She talked about the emotions she felt the day of the crash, learning the driver of the truck took off. “Very angry,” Reed said. “Thinking to myself, how can you just get out of your vehicle and then look at these girls, seeing the extent of the damage?”
According to court documents, a Facebook message from Lara-Lozano’s wife helped police identify him as the driver. The documents say she reached out to Joan Reed, telling her Lara-Lozano was driving that night and hiding in Illinois.
According to police documents, Lara-Lozano is an illegal immigrant. Joan Reed said she recently learned this news. “To us, it makes no difference who he is or where he’s from, whether he’s here legally or illegally,” Reed said. “That’s just not something that makes a difference to us at this point.”
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine is aware of the case, with Lara-Lozano in court Wednesday. He’s now potentially awaiting deportation. “At this time, we made sure we connected with immigration and they have a hold on him for that purpose,” Kleine said Thursday.
As for Madison Reed, she is recovering from a shattered heel and fractured vertebra. A junior at Marion, she’ll now have to put her dancing on hold.  “She’s having some emotional struggles,” Joan Reed said. “She’s got some anger, she’s got some sadness, she’s just trying to kind of come to grips with all of it.”
The passenger in Madi’s car is also a junior at Marion. She’s since been released from the hospital. Lara-Lozano’s bond was set at $3 million. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10.
According to KMTV, the illegal alien had 3 previous DUI arrests in Illinois and Iowa.

What a life of alcoholism did to David Cassidy

UPDATE (Nov. 22, 2017):

David Cassidy died yesterday, November 21, 2017, at the age of 67, from organ failure. It was announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with dementia. (Source)
Below is the post that I wrote nearly four years ago, in January 2014, which has been revisited by readers because of Cassidy’s declining health and death.
I hope this post may convince alcoholics to get help and so avoid the sad and wretched end that befell Cassidy. May he rest in peace.

Remember David Cassidy who played Keith Partridge in the 1970s TV series The Partridge Family?
Born on April 12, 1950, Cassidy was blessed with boyish good looks. Although he was 20 years old when The Partridge Family began, he convincingly played a teenager on the show.
Here he is in 1978, still boyish looking at age 28:

Below is David Cassidy’s mugshot, age 60, after he was arrested for DUI in Florida in Nov. 2010:

Less than 3 years later, this is what Cassidy looked like, age 63, when he was arrested again for DUI in upstate New York in Aug. 2013:

5 months later on Jan. 10, 2014, Cassidy was once again arrested for DUI in California — his third DUI.
This is what alcohol has done to David Cassidy (see before and after below). While age leaves its mark on all of us, the before and after pics seem to be of two entirely different men.

UPDATE (Jan. 15):

In an exclusive interview with the National Enquirer, David Cassidy’s stepdad Marty Ingels, who is married to Cassidy’s stepmom Shirley Jones, said David “got off easy the last time around. On the second DUI, he got some fancy lawyer and it was reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. This third DUI, believe it or not, actually changes the status of that second one. It brings it back up to a felony. So now he’s in real hot water! A lot of the family is praying that David goes to jail because they believe it’s the only way he can save his life. I think they feel David is too far down the road to addiction and alcoholism for rehab alone to help him anymore. Jail would be a godsend. David needs at least 120 days behind bars.”
Marty says Shirley, who helped raise David after marrying his father, Jack Cassidy, in 1956, is not surprised by her stepson’s struggles with the bottle. She had lived through this kind of alcoholic behavior with Jack Cassidy, who died on Dec. 12, 1976, after passing out and dropping a lit cigarette in his Los Angeles apartment. His body was burned beyond recognition.

See pro-Obama actress' face morph

Lindsay Lohan was a child actress and, at one time, one of Hollywood’s brightest rising stars.
This creepy photo-morph video shows the changes in her face over the years, from a cute freckle-faced girl to a collagen-lipped bleached blonde looking far older than her 25 years. A sober testimony to the effects of drugs (3 rehabs), alcohol (two DUIs), cigarettes, and promiscuity.
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_0Mi5Q-ExZ8]
A big supporter of Barack Obama in 2008, Lohan bashed Sarah Palin on her blog of September 14, 2008:

“I really cannot bite my tongue anymore when it comes to Sarah Palin….

Is it a sin to be gay? …Or to have sex before marriage? Or even to have a child out of wedlock?

I find it quite interesting that a woman who now is running to be second in command of the United States, only 4 years ago had aspirations to be a television anchor. Which is probably all she is qualified to be….

Is our country so divided that the Republicans best hope is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe?”

Lohan offered to stump for Obama in 2008, but was turned down. A top source on the Obama team told the Chicago Sun-Times, Lohan ”is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us.”
Ouch.

LAPD Gives Illegal Alien Drunk Drivers a Free Pass

According to Kelleigh, my good friend and source of juicy tips, this article was featured in a story National Review sometime in April, 2011.  I just did a search on Google News and found a recent ABC news story that elaborates on the issue.
“At a Senate Public Safety Committee meeting Tuesday, Ellen Rosenberg of Westlake Village held a picture of her son, Drew, who was killed by an unlicensed driver last year. She was there to urge a vote against a bill that would stop law enforcement from impounding the cars of unlicensed drivers, mostly illegal immigrants, at DUI checkpoints.

Police would still be able to impound the cars of drunk drivers and vehicles suspected of being involved in a crime.

“How could I not be furious at the double-speak I’m hearing here? We’re going to say you’re above the law because you can’t get a license?” said Roseberg.

State Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles) says cities throughout California have been abusing DUI checkpoints, using them to impound the cars unlicensed drivers to collect hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in impound fees to fill up local coffers.

…. The bill passed and now heads to the Appropriations Committee next. A 2000 study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that when compared to licensed drivers, unlicensed drivers were nearly five times more likely to be involved in fatal crashes.
