Why the U.S. must ban all subway trains

There is a horrible killer loose in America.
It’s huge in size and very very lethal.
It has killed again and again, across our fruited plains from sea to shining sea. And it will kill again, if we don’t stop it dead in its tracks.
As recounted by Helen Pow for the UK’s Daily Mail, Dec. 27, 2012, in New York this killer has already killed as many as THREE (gasp!) times in the recent past.
1. In January 1999, aspiring screenwriter Kendra Webdale was killed by an oncoming subway train after she was shoved off the platform onto the train tracks by a former mental patient.
After that, the state Legislature passed Kendra’s Law, which lets mental health authorities supervise patients who live outside institutions to make sure they are taking their medications and aren’t threats to safety.
Alas, Kendra’s Law did not stop the next brutal killing.
2. On December 3, 2012, while waiting in Times Square for a subway train, 58-year-old Ki-Suck Han (photo below) got into an argument with a homeless man, 30-year-old Naeem Davis. The two men had never met before.

Dead: Ki-Suck Han, pictured, was shoved in front of a train in Times Square

Davis shoved Han off the platform onto the train tracks. Instead of helping Han, a New York Post photographer who also was waiting for a train, took a photograph of Han on the tracks a split second before he was crushed to death by an arriving train.
Davis (photo below) has been charged with murder in Han’s death and is being held without bail. He has pleaded not guilty, claiming Han was the aggressor and had attacked him first.

Charged: Homeless man, 30-year-old Naeem Davis, pictured, was charged with murder after pushing a man under a train on December 3
  1. On December 27, 2012 at about 8 pm, a man was standing on the elevated platform of a 7 train in Queens when a woman, who witnesses said had been following him closely and muttering to herself, shoved the man onto the tracks.
The man was hit by the first car of an 11-car northbound train and got stuck under the wheels of the second car. Witnesses say the man hadn’t appeared to notice the woman, and that the woman waited until the last possible moment before pushing him in front of the approaching train.
It was unclear if the man and the woman knew each other or if anyone tried to help the man up before he was struck by the train. However, according to witnesses, there wouldn’t have been time.
A passenger in the train said he had felt the train going over “a bump.” Linda Santini-Tripodis, who was beneath the 40th Street station at the time, said, “I heard the train screech as it was stopping and then heard this loud scream. I’m never going to forget that scream for as long as I live.”
Crime scene: The man was struck by the train and killed at the 40th Street station near Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside, pictured

New York Police Department chief spokesman Paul Browne said the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had “terrible injuries that make providing a description difficult at this time.”
Officers are looking for the woman, who had fled the scene after the attack. Police viewed footage from a 24-hour surveillance camera outside a pizza restaurant, Oasis, located across from the station and were able to obtain clear images of the suspect, according to The New York Times. She is described as Hispanic, in her 20s, heavyset and about 5-foot-5, wearing a blue, white and gray ski jacket and Nike sneakers with gray on top and red on the bottom.
Frankly, I think the police are barking up the wrong tree.
Clearly, the real culprit is not the mental patient in the 1999 incident, or Naeem Davis in the Dec. 3, 2012 incident, or the Hispanic woman in the latest Dec. 27 incident.
Clearly, the real culprit is the evil New York SUBWAY TRAIN!!! (See photo below). For if it weren’t for the NY subway train, Kendra Webdale, Ki-Suck Han, and the yet-to-be-identified man would still be alive!!!!

Shocking: The man, who hasn't been identified, was standing on the elevated platform of a 7 train in Queens at about 8pm when he was shoved on the tracks

This is so obvious to anyone who thinks clearly and who really really cares about people and about the sacredness of LIFE. But would you believe that there actually are Americans who say they have a Constitutional right to ride subway trains? Would you believe that these Americans actually formed a National Subway Train Association (NSTA) to “protect” their “right” to ride trains? Would you believe the NSTA spouts ridiculous slogans like “Subway trains don’t kill. People kill” and “When subway trains are outlawed, only outlaws will ride subway trains”?
Ha! These people are just plain EVIL! Like CSI star Marg Helgenberger and U. of Rhode Island history professor Erik Loomis, I think these subway-train nuts should get a taste of what they inflict on the rest of us — Death!!!!!
In mere days, the 113th U.S. Congress will be convening in the hallowed halls of Capitol Hill.
We must demand that Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA), who’s ever vigilant in ensuring the safety of the American people, introduce a bill to ban all subway trains in the United States.

Senate bill to ban "assault weapons" incl. handguns

We knew it was coming.
Now, it’s here.
pro gun
When the 113th Congress convenes in a week on January 3, 2013, long-time gun control advocate Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-Ca) will introduce a bill, provisionally called the “2013 Feinstein Assault Weapons Legislation,” to restrict our Second Amendment right to bear arms.
At this point, we don’t have the bill’s number or a formal name. All we have is this summary of the proposed legislation from Feinstein’s website:
1. Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:

  • 120 specifically-named firearms
  • Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
  • Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
  1. Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
  • Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
  • Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
  • Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
  1. Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
  2. Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
  • Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
  • Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
  • Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
  1. Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
  • Background check of owner and any transferee;
  • Type and serial number of the firearm;
  • Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
  • Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
  • Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

A pdf of the bill summary is available here.
Gosh, do you think Diane Feinstein’s proposed ban will be applied to her armed guards? [Snark]

This is how Israel deals with school shootings

After the terrible shooting massacre of 20 little children, ages 6 to 7, and 6 adults nearly two weeks ago in Sandy Hook Elementary School, Newtown, Conn., there is the predictable cacophony of “Gun Control!” from the Left.
Even worse is the scapegoating of law-abiding gun owners who have committed no crime. The National Rifle Association (RFA) and its members are not just vilified, but death wishes were heaped on them by CSI star Marg Helgenberger and U. of Rhode Island history professor Erik Loomis. The irony of anti-gun advocates wishing death for others, all under the guise of caring about life, is lost on the ilk of Helgenberger and Loomis.
Joseph Farah of WND points out that Israel, a nation surrounded by madmen who seek to kill innocent Jewish children any way they can, has rarely seen the kinds of mayhem America witnessed in Newtown, Conn.

This is why.

Israel teacher_with_rifle

Israel protects its children with armed guards and armed teachers in its schools.
Writing in the Wall St. Journal, Massad Ayoob, director of the Lethal Force Institute in Concord, N.H., which trains police officers and military personnel in self-defense techniques, echoes Farah’s message:
In Israel armed teachers are common, and terrorist attacks at schools nonexistent. Indeed, it was only during a 1997 visit by Israeli schoolgirls to the ‘Island of Peace’ along the Jordanian border, in which the teachers had been asked to leave their weapons behind, that an Arab gunman took advantage of an easy opportunity to open fire, killing seven children and wounding another six.”
Ayoob proposes the Israeli model for U.S. schools, a stance supported by Texas governor Rick Perry. Ayoob writes:
“[In the United States] all adult employees of the school know how to operate fire extinguishers and supervise an orderly fire drill. A school nurse is generally on hand, but virtually all teachers and school administrators have learned basic first aid and CPR. It is but a small step from here to train school personnel in the use of firearms, and to arm at least some of them.
For the concept to work, armed teachers would have to be volunteers who pass strict psychological testing, and go through at least as much training in firearms and the judicious use of deadly force as current laws demand of armed security guards. The weapons would have to be discreetly concealed, and which personnel are armed should be revealed only on a need-to-know basis.”
Despite Obama’s decrying of gun violence, since he’s entered the White House, prosecutions for breaking gun laws have diminished sharply — a drop of 40% since the zenith reached under George W. Bush, which was 11,000.
As for the anti-gun ownership elites on the Left, their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Both Senators Diane Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) not only carry concealed weapons, they are also protected by armed police escorts. The obnoxious loudmouth “entertainer” Rosie O’Donnell, who once ran roughshod over conservative actor Tom Selleck because of his stance supporting the Second Amendment, has three armed bodyguards to protect her, her wife and her children. (For more, see “Second Amendment Hypocrites.”)
Michael Moore, who supports stricter gun-control laws, including a ban on automatic and semiautomatic weapons and magazine clips that hold more than seven rounds, is also a hypocrite. In one of his docufictions, “Bowling for Columbine,” Moore criticizes America’s “culture of fear” and its obsession with guns. But it turns out Moore has armed protection from a personal body guard. America found that out only when the body guard was arrested in January 2005 in New York’s JFK airport for carrying — you guessed it — a firearm that was unlicensed for New York.
Yup, like O’Donnell, Feinstein, and Schumer, Moore also is protected by armed guards. But they don’t want YOU, who don’t have the millions of bucks they have to hire armed guards, to own guns to protect yourself.
Then there’s anti-gun Obama and NBC’s David Gregory, who send their kids to the private, self-described “highly selective” Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, where annual tuition is around $35,000 (not including fees and textbooks) and where the children are protected by 11 armed guards, with a 12th on the way.
For the Left, their motto is ever “Do as I say, not as I do”.
By the way, Ayoob wrote his essay after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. If America had heeded his advice of arming school teachers, the Sandy Hook tragedy might have been averted.

Going After Our Guns

In the wake of the terrible massacre of 20 first-grade kiddies (and 6 adults) by an evil, likely-deranged lone gunman at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the usual gun-control hyenas are braying.
This time, however, they may succeed in their gun control agenda, at least in getting assault weapons banned.

The Usual Hyenas:

Don Lemon
CNN anchor Don Lemon (pic above) went on an anti-gun rant on Monday morning: “We need to get guns and bullets and automatic weapons off the streets. They should only be available to police officers and to hunt al-Qaeda and the Taliban and not hunt elementary school children.”
In a Twitter exchange on Saturday, MSNBC host Ed Schultz asked “Why should anyone own an assault rifle ?” and proposed a “confiscation of these types of weapons”. He also told one poster that “a Glock pistol qualifies as an assault weapon.”
On NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg renewed his perennial call for punitive federal gun control laws in the United States by lying that shooting deaths “only happen in America.” Not true. There have been shootings in other post-industrial societies, including Oslo, Norway; Winnendon, Germany; Kauhajoki, Finland; Beslan, Russia; Monash University, Australia; Dunblane, Scotland. (For those shootings, go here.)
Chicago mayor and former Obama White House chief-of-staff Rahm Emanuel is calling for a nation-wide ban on assault weapons. When he was Obama’s COS, Emanuel famously said that “No crisis should go to waste.”
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) has pledged to revive a law banning assault weapons at the opening of the next session of Congress in January.

Ominous Signs:

The powerful pro-2nd Amendment National Rifle Association (NRA) shut down their Facebook page and have not had any Twitter activity since the massacre on Friday morning. NRA officials have kept quiet. On Twitter, NRA president David Keene and NRA members have received death threats — calls for them to be shot. The irony of anti-gun people issuing death threats appears to be lost on everyone.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), who has been a strong supporter of 2nd Amendment rights with an A rating from the NRA — is signaling he’s changing his mind. On Monday outside the Virginia Capitol, Warner said: “I‘ve been a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. I’ve got an A rating from the NRA. But the status quo isn’t acceptable. I’ve got three daughters. They asked me on Friday evening, ‘Dad, what are you gonna do about this?’ There’s got to be a way to put reasonable restrictions, particularly as we look at assault weapons, as we look at these fast clips of ammunition.”

Obama’s Hypocrisy

Gun rights advocates believe Obama will now focus on making gun control a top issue; one said, “It’s in his DNA to push this issue. This would be his crowning achievement, if he can ban guns.”
What is noteworthy is that, despite Obama’s decrying of gun violence, since he has been president, prosecutions for breaking gun laws have diminished sharply — a drop of 40% since the zenith reached under George W. Bush, which was 11,000.

***

Meanwhile, the American people are responding with an upsurge of gun purchases, even more than the marked increases in gun buying since Obama first occupied the White House.
In Colorado, for example, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation received 4,154 requests for background checks from potential gun buyers on Saturday, the day after the Connecticut shooting. That was so many the CBI couldn’t process them all and the backlog grew to nearly 18 hours. Extra staff was brought in over the weekend and workers are still trying to clear the backlog.

Senate approves S.1867 bill that gives President power to detain U.S. citizens w/out trial

UPDATE:
Our concerns about Sec. 1031 are ignored. The reconcile conference committee has produced a final version of NDAA, which Obama says he will not veto. US citizens are NOT exempted from being arrested and detained without charge or trial. See my post of Dec. 14, 2011: “U.S. Citizens Still Subject to Detention w/out Trial in Final Version of Defense Bill.”
See also, “There Really Are FEMA Camps.”
+++
On Thursday, December 1, while we were busily tearing at each other about what the language of Sections 1031-1032 of Senate bill 1867 (National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012) means — whether or not the authority given by the bill to the President to have the military arrest and detain without charge or trial is over not just “terrorists,” but U.S. citizensthe Senate breezily passed the bill on a 93:7 roll call vote.
Amendments that sought to insert language into the bill, limiting the President’s carte blanche authority over U.S. citizens were rejected.
Here’s the partisan breakdown:

  • Of the 93 senators who voted “Aye,” 48 are Democrats, 44 are Republicans, 1 is Independent.
  • Of the 7 senators who voted “Nay,” 3 are Democrats, 3 are Republicans, 1 is Independent.

As you can see, the Senate’s passage of S. 1867 was a bipartisan undertaking. A record of each senator’s position was not kept. For the names of the senators who support vs. voted against the bill, click here.
Alas, the Library of Congress’ THOMAS website has only a summary, instead of the full text of the final version of the S. 1867 because “The text of this legislation is not yet available on GovTrack. It may not have been made available by the Government Printing Office yet.”
Before S. 1867 was passed, 381 amendments to the bill were proposed.
Of those, 3 were amendments proposed by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the substance of which is unknown because govtrack.us says “Amendment information not available.” But Oath Keepers and the John Birch Society say Paul’s amendment sought to delete Sec. 1031 from S. 1867. None of Paul’s proposed amendments was accepted.
An amendment (S.Amdt. 1107) “to revise the provisions relating to detainee matters” was proposed by Sen. Mark Udall [D-CO]. No text of Udall’s amendment is available. The amendment was rejected by the Senate 38Yea – 60Nay.

An amendment (S.Amdt. 1125) “to clarify the applicability of requirements for military custody with respect to detainees” was proposed by Sen. Diane Feinstein [D-CA]. The amendment was rejected by the Senate 45Y – 55N.

An amendment (S.Amdt. 1126) “to limit the authority of the Armed Forces to detain citizens of the United States under section 1031” was proposed by Sen. Diane Feinstein [D-CA]. No text for this amendment is available. The amendment was rejected by the Senate 45Y – 55N.

An amendment (S.Amdt. 1274) “to clarify the disposition under the law of war of persons detained by the Armed Forces of the United States pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force” was proposed by Sen. Jeff Sessions [R-AL]. No text of the amendment is available. The amendment was rejected by the Senate 41Y – 59N.

In the end, however, both Diane Feinstein and Mark Udall voted “yes” on S1867, while Sen. Rand Paul held firm and was one of seven senators who voted against the bill.
The House of Representatives’ version of S. 1867 is H.R. 1540. The House had passed HR 1540 on May 26, 2011, by a roll call vote, 322 – 96 (13 present/not voting).
Now that both houses of Congress have passed the bill, it will now proceed to a conference committee of senators and representatives to work out differences in the versions of the bill each chamber approved.
To read the critical Sections 1031-1033 of S. 1867, go here.
