Suburban Moms During the Coronavirus Outbreak

This would be funny if it wasn’t so true…

I’ve been seeing lots of tweets about people publicly shaming others for “not following the rules” as they determine one should be doing during this pandemic.

My small town – which basically has been shut down since March 17 – is going into “Shelter in Place” mode tomorrow at noon while simultaneously opening up more businesses they deem “essential.”

They are also ordering a curfew from 10:00 pm until 5:00 am. From their directive: “Citizens out during this time for work will be required to carry and provide, if necessary, a letter documenting the essential service they provide on the official letterhead of their organization. (Letters should include: The employer on official letterhead or with official logo if applicable, the name of the employee who is deemed an essential worker, the time of day or night in which the worker is expected to travel for job duties, the type of essential service the employee provides, contact information for employer/company to verify given information, a signature from a superior. Employees with badges for given essential jobs, still need letters.)”

We have 565 positive cases of the Wuhan virus in Oklahoma. Our total population is 3.5 million.

One of the reasons the city mayor implemented “Shelter in Place” and a curfew? “The number of complaints and concerns received this weekend concerning crowding at certain locations.”

Trust me: I saw comments on the city’s Facebook page about people complaining about kids not “social distancing” at the hoops and front yards. How do you know if the kids that aren’t social distancing don’t all live in one house together?

How did we get here? I give you the following funny…

Suicides outpacing Wuhan virus deaths in Knox County, Tennessee

This will come as no surprise, except maybe to the bureaucrats and “experts.”

Shutting down one’s livelihood and the economic machine that drives EVERYTHING for EVERYONE has consequences. A severe economic depression is about to hit this country due to governments shutting everything down to try and “save” all of us.

The reality of a “shelter in place” has already started in Tennessee. 10News reports the following: “Knox Co. seeing an increase in suspected suicides during coronavirus pandemic.”

The byline: “Mayor Glenn Jacobs said he was shocked and it made him wonder if they were handling this the right way.”

Some details from the article:

Knox County is seeing a disturbing trend in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Mayor Glenn Jacobs said on Friday that the Regional Forensic Center examined nine suspected suicide cases – eight of which are from within Knox County – in the past 48 hours alone.

That’s 10 percent of the total number of suicides from all of last year, when there were 199 confirmed or suspected suicides from across the region and 83 in Knox County.

“That number is completely shocking and makes me wonder if what we are doing now is really the best approach,” Mayor Jacobs said. “We have to determine how we can respond to COVID-19 in a way that keeps our economy intact, keeps people employed and empowers them with a feeling of hope and optimism – not desperation and despair.”

The director of the Knox County Health Department was visually emotional at the daily press conference Friday as she spoke about these sobering numbers.

“Now, more than ever, we need to be kinder and gentler with ourselves and with each other,” Dr. Martha Buchanan said. “If you are struggling, I encourage you to reach out. Reach out to your pastor, a friend, call the hotlines.”

She said she knows the decisions Knox County leaders have made to stop the spread of the coronavirus are hard, and the people who have made the decisions are struggling with that. But she emphasized these are the decisions that will keep people safe and stop the spread of coronavirus.

I’m no economic genius, unlike Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, yet anyone with a functioning brain could have told you that shutting down our economic machine would and WILL have a major impact on the health of millions of Americans.

Yet we are to assume that this shutdown, according to the bureaucrats, will “keep people safe.”

“Safe” while unemployed, broke and unable to pay your mortgage/rent and bills or feed your family is not a way to go through life.

I leave you with the words from this tweet I read:

Everyone making decisions about every American’s earning power, job and business has a fat, full-time, guaranteed, salaried paycheck and they’ll get paid no matter what. They are CLUELESS about the consequences of a shut-down for average Americans. Worse, they don’t give a damn.”

Agenda 21: Presentation for Local Officials

Short and sweet, this should be seen by everyone in local government.  When you get their reaction you can vote accordingly.  A guy running for my local City Council actually puts out campaign literature saying he’s on The Visioning Committee!   I’m sure he has no idea how many votes that cost him.  He lost. LOL!  ~LTG
