These people just won’t quit: Petition demands Trader Joe’s change its ‘racist’ food packaging

Someone started a petition on Change.org to demand that Trader Joe’s remove racist branding and packaging from its stores. Apparently the brand packaging belies “a narrative of exoticism” and “exoticizes other cultures — it presents ‘Joe’ as the default ‘normal.”

From the petition:

The grocery chain labels some of its ethnic foods with modifications of “Joe” that belies a narrative of exoticism that perpetuates harmful stereotypes. For example, “Trader Ming’s” is used to brand the chain’s Chinese food, “Arabian Joe” brands Middle Eastern foods, “Trader José” brands Mexican foods, “Trader Giotto’s” is for Italian food, and “Trader Joe San” brands their Japanese cuisine. Furthermore, the Trader Joe’s company takes pride in the fact that the founder, Joe Coulombe, took inspiration in building the Trader Joe’s brand from a racist book and a controversial theme park attraction, both of which have received criticism for romanticizing Western Imperialism and fetishizing non-Western peoples.

We learn directly from the Trader Joe’s website that the first Trader Joe’s store: “had a nautical theme and it was run by people who were described as “traders on the high seas.” At the time, Joe had been reading a book called “White Shadows in the South Seas,” and he’d been to the Disneyland Jungle Trip ride, and it all just…coalesced. To this day, Trader Joe’s Crew Members consider themselves “traders on the culinary seas” and are known for their bright, tropical-patterned shirts…

I’m sure EVERYONE who walks into Trader Joe’s is really, really upset about the history of this brand.

Read the whole petition here.

And the company is complying because Cancel Culture is a very real thing:

While this approach to product naming may have been rooted in a lighthearted attempt at inclusiveness, we recognize that it may now have the opposite effect— one that is contrary to the welcoming, rewarding customer experience we strive to create every day,” said Kenya Friend-Daniel, national director of public relations for Trader Joe’s. “With this in mind, we made the decision several years ago to use only the Trader Joe’s name on our products moving forward. Since then, we have been in the process of updating older labels and replacing any variations with the name Trader Joe’s, and we will continue do so until we complete this important work.”

HBO cancels Gone With the Wind actress Hattie McDaniel

HBO Max has removed Gone With The Wind after the woke progressives cried raaaaaaaaaaacist.

In a statement, the AT&T-owned WarnerMedia, which owns HBO Max, called “Gone With the Wind” “a product of its time” that depicts racial prejudices.

“These racist depictions were wrong then and are wrong today, and we felt that to keep this title up without an explanation and a denouncement of those depictions would be irresponsible,” said an HBO Max spokesman in a statement.

Apparently some head honcho can proclaim that his feeeeeeeeeeelings are the Golden Rule for what is irresponsible.

“A product of its time” could also be called HISTORY.

You know what else is a part of HISTORY? Hattie McDaniel. From Wikipedia:

“Hattie McDaniel (June 10, 1893 – October 26, 1952) was an American actress, singer-songwriter, and comedian. She is best known for her role as “Mammy” in Gone with the Wind (1939), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first African American to win an Oscar.

In addition to acting in many films, McDaniel recorded 16 blues sides between 1926–1929 (10 were issued), was a radio performer and television star; she was the first black woman to sing on radio in the United States.”

From Hattie’s acceptance speech:

I sincerely hope I shall always be a credit to my race and to the motion picture industry. My heart is too full to tell you just how I feel. And may I say thank you, and God Bless You.”

Many of us will not let Hattie’s wish be denied. Last night, Gone With the Wind shot to number one on Amazon and sold out.

I for one will not cancel this “product of its time” nor Hattie McDaniel. Yes, we were one of the many folk who helped GWTW to sell out. Can’t wait to watch it again!

Inciting rage: Professor tweets police gun range target without knowing background of threat/no threat training

With the incredibly easy access to research/verify information via your fingertips, you’d think one would be inclined to research facts before over-reacting to things.

Alas, that is not the case with most liberals.

An associate professor of legal studies saw a target on display at a police supply section of a Kentucky gun store and was immediately outraged.

Here’s the target:

Without bothering to Google “law enforcement target training,” “target training for police” or anything similar to that, the associate professor tweeted the picture. Liberal outrage was immediate.

After Dana Loesch (former representative for the NRA) got involved, the professor did realize he over-reacted. He apologized for not fully understanding the intent of this law enforcement training mechanism.

Jared Ogden (former Navy SEAL), the owner and creator of the “controversial” range targets, went on Dana’s radio show to discuss the Twitter outrage mob and dangers of sharing misinformation in today’s tech world.

From the video description:

“Dana talks with Owner and creator of ‘Controversial’ range targets: Jared Ogden. Triumph-Systems.com is where you can check out their products/targets. One training silouhette shows a person holding an iPhone, the other side, a person holding a gun – the idea is to train well enough with those pivotal targets as to NOT SHOOT THE person holding the iPhone, but somehow media’s lack of journalism standards had them running with the story that these targets were made, so people with iPhones could be shot at more effectively – amazing the level of fake news these days.”

This is RICH: Libtard Sarah Silverman says the world needs more empathy

Amazing how having your show cancelled helps get you suddenly full of empathy.

On October 11 Silverman retweeted this tweet (by Rob Delaney) about President Trump: “rot in hell nazi c*nt.”

Yeah, Silverman’s a changed womyn for sure…

From Hollywood Reporter: Sarah Silverman is probably thinking about what this headline says.

At the New Yorker Festival on Saturday night, the comedian spoke with New Yorker staff writer Andrew Marantz about the dangers of clickbait culture and how headlines don’t always accurately reflect the nuance of the discussion.

“People are terrified, and to be honest, so am I right now,” Silverman said about speaking honestly, noting that she’s inadvertently hurt people in the past through her comments being digested into short soundbites.

That didn’t stop her from speaking honestly about the importance of change and empathy in the current social and political climate. Marantz opened the conversation by asking Silverman about her journey as a performer and the change in her comedy. While she started out performing an ignorant and arrogant character version of herself in her first special Jesus Is Magic, she’s since “had an identity crisis” as a comedian.

“Comedy dies in the second guessing of your audience,” Silverman said about her early trials to figure out how to perform what people wanted to see. “You have to be willing to bomb and start over. It’s easy to bomb when nobody knows who you are.”

Silverman and Marantz also spoke about her show I Love You, America, in which Silverman met with people who held different beliefs from her own and tried to have an open discussion. She explained that many an individual’s hatred stems initially from a desire to be a part of something with other people.

“It’s not about hate, but it’s about they found a community where they belong,” Silverman said of white supremacists. “Nobody has changed by being shamed or being judged.”

She also spoke about people like Christian Picciolini, who founded Free Radicals Project to prevent extremist movements after his own time in a white supremacist network, and Megan Phelps-Roper, the granddaughter of the Westboro Baptist Church founder who discovered a new path for herself through discussions with people on social media.

“People go towards love. This is what humans do,” the comedian said. “I’m a hypocrite in a thousand ways, but people are changed.”

Silverman went on to speak about her own change, as she hesitantly mentioned her decision to apologize for a segment on The Sarah Silverman Program when her character performed blackface as part of an episode about racism. Silverman said she harbored shame for many years and wanted to apologize for her “complicity in a liberal bubble racism.”

The comedian also discussed the dangers of cancel culture and internet shaming. “Can we hope for people to change? Can we be open to being changed?” Silverman asked.

“Cancel culture is a weird black and white thing that I think should take into account the nuance of things and the people’s intentions and their room for growth and if they have changed or if they have not — there’s a big difference,” she said.
