How Washington, DC lives high on the hog

. . . while our (official) national debt is now $17 TRILLION — which is over 106% of America’s GDP — and each taxpayer’s share of that debt is more than $148,000.

corrupt politician

Just the other day Nancy Pelosi insisted that there were “no more cuts to make” to the federal budget.

Filthy rotten liar!

Here are  ways the politicos in Congress, the White House, and the federal government bureaucracy are living like fatted pigs, at the expense of long-suffering taxpayers.

1. In one recent year, taxpayers spent more than $1.4 billion on the Obamas.  Meanwhile, British taxpayers only spent about $58 million dollars on the entire royal family. Just one trip that the Obamas took — to Africa — cost U.S. taxpayers about $100 million.

2. The POS has only have one dog named “Bo”, but the White House “dog handler” reportedly makes $102,000 per year and sometimes he is even flown to where the POS and FLPOS are vacationing so that he can take care of Bo.

3. There is always at least one projectionist at the White House 24 hours a day just in case someone wants to watch a movie.  Apparently turning on a DVD player is too much to ask.

4. During 2012, the salaries of Obama’s three climate change advisers combined came to a grand total of more than $370,000. Overall, 139 different White House staffers made at least $100,000 during 2012, 20 of whom made the maximum of $172,200.

5. Taxpayers also shell out beaucoup bucks for the VPOS. When Joe Biden and his staff took a recent trip to London, the hotel bill cost U.S. taxpayers $459,388.65. The VPOS stopped over in Paris, where the hotel bill for just one night was $585,000.50. When VPOS visited Moscow for two days in 2011, the total hotel bill came to $665,445.

6. Taxpayers spend an annual average of $4,005,900 per person on the “personal” and “office” expenses of U.S. senators. Those expenses include:

  • Hair care: the Senate Hair Care Services cost taxpayers about $5.25 million over 15 years, including more than $40,000 for each of 6 barbers ($80,000 for the head barber) last fiscal year.
  • Shoe shine: The shoeshine attendant at the U.S. Senate was paid more than $40,000 last year.

7. Congressional pensions: Once they leave Washington, former members of Congress continue to collect huge checks for the rest of their lives:

  • In 2011, 280 former lawmakers who averaged around 20 years of service and retired under a former government pension system received average annual pensions of $70,620, according to a Congressional Research Service report. Another 215 retirees (elected in 1984 or later with an average of 15 years of service) received average annual checks of roughly $40,000 a year.
  • Some former lawmakers are collecting federal pensions for life worth at least $100,000 annually. They include Newt Gingrich, Bob Dole, Trent Lott, Dick Gephardt and Dick Cheney.
  • Speaker of the House John Boehner will bring home a yearly pension of close to $85,000 if he left Congress when his current term ends in 2014.

Note that Congress is full of millionaires:

8. Taxpayers also spend approximately $3.6 million a year to support the lavish lifestyles of former presidents Jimmy Carter, George Bush the elder, Bill Clinton, and George Bush the younger, who are all multimillionaires.

9. Nearly 500,000 federal employees make at least $100,000 a year. During one recent year, the average federal employee in the Washington D.C. area received total compensation worth more than $126,000. During one recent year, compensation for federal employees came to a grand total of approximately $447 billion. 77,000 federal workers make more than the governors of their own states do.

10. Lastly, but not the least, the denizens of both Congress and the White House exempt themselves from Obamacare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama's Dog and Lover Fly In Own Jet

The Obama reelection campaign won’t debate substance because of his sorry record for the past 3+ years as POTUS, so the campaign has gone to the dogs, literally.
On Tuesday, Obama’s chief campaign strategist and senior advisor David Axelrod tweeted a picture of his boss and his dog, Bo, in a presidential limo, with this message:

“How loving owners transport their dog.”

The message was an obvious jab at Romney, whose wife Ann had told a family anecdote about how the Romneys took a roadtrip to Canada in the 1980s with their dog Seamus in a kennel strapped to the roof of the car.
Conservative bloggers and talk-show hosts have fought back, noting that Obama wrote in one of his autobiographies that, as a child in Indonesia, he had eaten dog meat. But the real story, forgotten by conservatives, is this:

In July 2010, when the Obamas flew to Maine for a vacation, Bo the dog was flown in a separate plane, thereby wasting thousands of taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars.

Below is a post I wrote on this at the time, on July 18, 2010, as a reminder of the real scandalous dog story in this election year.

Bo, the most pampered dog in U.S. history — at taxpayers’ expense

As Rome burned, Emperor Nero played the fiddle.
As of 4:43 am, west coast time, Sunday, July 18, 2010, the U.S. national debt was $13,204,759,696,170 and increasing by the second. Debt per citizen was $42,628 and increasing by the second. Debt per taxpayer was $119,360 and increasing by the second.
But Obama and family flew to Bar Harbor, Maine, for their THIRD vacation since the BP Deepwater Horizon oil well exploded on April 20.
Arriving at the airport before the Obamas were first dog Bo and Obama’s “special assistant/personal aidegay lover, the aptly named Reggie Love in their own small jet plane.
This is how Wikipedia describes Love: “As Obama’s aide, he has to anticipate any and all of Obama’s needs.”
Yes, we can! — and we’re footing the bill! That is, the 60% of Americans who actually pay federal income taxes.

Reggie and Barry

Reporting from scenic Bar Harbor, Maine, reporter Rebekah Metzler of the Morning Sentinet writes on July 17, 2010:

Earlier Friday, the Obamas were greeted by Gov. John Baldacci and U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, D-2nd District, when they arrived in Trenton about 12:25 p.m.
The president was the first to walk onto the tarmac, dressed casually in a pale blue Oxford shirt and khakis. A few minutes later, the first lady, dressed in black capris, a tank-top and sandals, walked onto the runway. Shortly afterward, Malia and Sasha joined their parents.
Baldacci and his wife, Karen, presented the family with gift bags full of Maine-made goodies, including baskets made by the Passamaquoddy Tribe, popcorn from Little Lad’s Bakery in East Corinth, iconic L.L. Bean bags, University of Maine ice hockey hats, and an assortment of other Maine foods and books. Karen Baldacci said the bags for Malia and Sasha contained one loon toy and one chickadee toy that sound their natural calls.

Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog given as a present by the late U.S. Sen Ted Kennedy, D-Mass.; and the president’s personal aide Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci. “We’re ready. We’re going to do it all,” Love said with a big smile.
Air traffic at the small Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport in Trenton was shut down for the presidential arrival. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter patrolled the air in anticipation of the first family’s touchdown, and a pair of local fire and rescue trucks stood ready on an otherwise empty tarmac at the private air hangar.
The Obamas then traveled onto Mount Desert Island in a motorcade of at least 16 vehicles. It was led by two Maine State Police cruisers and included five black Chevrolet Suburbans.

Even Obama's Dog is Unpopular

USNews’ Washington Whispers had a poll on “who do you think is the most famous recent presidential pet?”
The result:

Clinton’s cat, Socks, beats Obama’s dog, Bo, paws down.

Bo

Here are the numbers:

  • Socks, the Clinton cat 34%
  • Bo, the Obama dog 28%
  • Millie, George H.W. Bush’s dog 17%
  • Lucky, the Reagan dog 8%

Meanwhile, Washington Whispers reports that donations to the Demonrats’ MoveOn.org have plummeted, prompting its executive director Justin Ruben to send a desperate E-mail plea to supporters:
“Hi — I wanted to make sure you saw this email in the midst of holiday craziness. We could really use your help!”
