Be careful what kind of equality you wish for proggies.

Via KTVA: Haines (Alaska) runner Nattaphon Wangyot qualified for the girls 1-2-3A 100-meter and 200-meter finals last Friday afternoon at the high school state track and field meet, but unlike her competitors, she was born with male anatomy.
Transgender equality has become a hot topic of discussion around the country, and Alaska is no exception. The Alaska Schools Activities Association recently implemented a policy to allow individual school districts to decide if a transgender athlete can compete in a sport as the gender they identify with.
“We didn’t want to necessarily create a situation where we were going to bring in a committee and those types of things just because it’s just not practical here,” said ASAA Executive Director Billy Strickland during Friday’s meet.
Wangyot, who declined to comment on this story, qualified for state by running the 100-meter race in 13.14 seconds at the Region V 1-2-3A meet in Juneau on May 21.
In all, 16 runners qualified for state. Saskia Harrison, a runner for Fairbanks’ Hutchison High School, just missed the cut with a time of 14.11 seconds, just behind fellow Hutchison runner Emma Daniels.
“‘I’m glad that this person is comfortable with who they are and they’re able to be happy in who they are, but I don’t think it’s competitively completely 100-percent fair,” Harrison told KTVA.
Alaska is not alone in dealing with transgender athletes. Thirty states have a policy in place that, to at least to some capacity, allows transgender athletes to compete as the gender they identify with.

I bring you good news of great joy!

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today … a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:10-12)

An Eskimo Hallelujah

This is a video from the small Yupiq Eskimo village of Quinhagak, Alaska. It is very creative and gives a very fine picture of  life in an Alaska Eskimo village. This was a school computer project intended for the other Yupiq villagers of 200. Much to the villagers’ shock, nearly 1..2 million people have already seen the video.

Hero rabbit saves owners from house fire

A pet rabbit is being credited for saving its owners from a house fire in south eastern Alaska.
It was early in the morning of September 13, 2011, around 4 a.m.
In Ketchikan, Alaska, a resident of 142 Austin Street was awakened by her pet rabbit scratching her chest.
Upon waking, the woman realized her house was on fire and was full of smoke. She roused her daughter, and the two fled the house.
The first call came in to 911 dispatchers at 4:09 a.m. and the caller reported “smoke and flames coming from the residence”.  Ketchikan Police officers arrived on scene and reported fire coming from the basement of the house and that all the occupants were outside and accounted for.
The first fire crews arrived at 4:13 a.m. and observed heavy smoke and flames from the basement. Attack lines were stretched to the home and the fire was brought under control quickly.
The basement of the home suffered moderate damage from smoke, heat, and water. There was light water damage to some areas of the main level and smoke damage throughout.
While there were no injuries to the mother or daughter, the rabbit was not so lucky. The animal succumbed to smoke inhalation and did not survive, the fire department said.

Lisa Murkowski…Is a Rhymes with Witch

POLITICO Breaking News
Alaska‘s Lisa Murkowski is the first Republican senator to come out against defunding Planned Parenthood. In an e-mail sent to a constituent on Friday and obtained by POLITICO, Murkowski writes, “I do believe that Planned Parenthood provides vital services to those in need and disagree with its funding cuts contained in [the House GOP budget bill].” On Wednesday, Murkowski wrote to the Senate Appropriations Committee urging that the panel protect funding for the group.

RINO Lisa Murkowski Wants Obama to Succeed

Joe Miller and the spoiler

The Senate election in Alaska is still undetermined because of the slow counting of thousands of write-in ballots, but it looks increasingly likely that spoiler Lisa Murkowski may win.
Murkowski had lost the GOP primary to TEA Party favorite Joe Miller. Addicted to power as a member of the bipartisan political ruling class (her father was Alaska’s former senator and governor), Murkowski stayed in the race for the Senate as a write-in candidate, determined to split Alaska’s conservative and independent votes.
In a sit-down interview with CBS’s Katie Couric — she who disdainly called Middle America the “unwashed” –Murkowski exposed her RINO nature for all to see.
She said the message she’s hearing “loud and clear” from Alaskans is COMPROMISE:

“I will tell you, I am not one of those who wants Obama to fail. If he does well, that means the country’s doing well. We don’t have time as a nation to spend all of what we do blocking. We have got to figure out how we get to a point where we can be sitting around the table and talking about these difficult problems and advancing some solutions.”

In other words, Murkowski wants Obama to succeed — in destroying America. Grrrr…. I will say no more before I get myself banned from my own blog, but here’s a hint:
