Reverse discrimination: NC university inflates grades of black students

Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) is a historically black university of 117 acres in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. Ranked #27 by U.S. News & World Report in the Top Public Comprehensive Baccalaureate Colleges of the South category for 9 years (2001–2009), WSSU offers baccalaureate and graduate programs to a diverse student population of more than 6,400.

In an exclusive for Campus Reform, Oliver Darcy reports that according to three former WSSU faculty members, the university’s administrators routinely increase the final grades of its black students in order to raise WSSU’s standing. The three are former Director of Academic Technology Shira Hedgepeth and two former professors who spoke to Campus Reform on the condition of anonymity because they fear speaking out may jeopardize their retirement.

Hedgepeth told Campus Reform on June 6, “Some students had their final grades changed based on their race. That was a common complaint of many of the faculty that I worked with. None of the Caucasian or non-African American students… none of their grades were changed. The way the grades fell out, there was no other reason for changing.”

Documents provided to Campus Reform by one of the former faculty members appear to validate these claims, but Campus Reform has chosen not to publish the records due to concerns that doing so may violate the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act by revealing the names and grades of students.

According to Hedgepeth, and the two anonymous former professors, instructors would submit final grades to the school only to have them later revised upwards by administrators as a way to “take care of their African American students.” “There is no other motivation,” said Hedgepeth. “If you work on that campus you know it. Everything that was done was to make sure we service the African American students.”

WSSU’s spokesman, Aaron Singleton, however, told Campus Reform that the university had received no complaints: “I checked throughout our administration and the university has not heard of any of those allegations. No one has filed any complaints at the university.”

One of the anonymous former professors insists that several faculty members have filed numerous complaints which were ignored: “I have reported everything. I doubt anything was done.”

Hedgepeth said, “I have tried reaching out to our accrediting body but they would not take complaints such as these. We have done everything we can to get somebody to start looking.”

Another former professor said the practice is ongoing, “Oh yes, definitely. Oh yes, it is still going on.”

The two professors wished to remain anonymous due to fears the school would retaliate against them. One of them said, “All the faculty, white and black are very fearful to speak. The department is run by fear and through retaliation. If you speak out you will be retaliated against.”

Hedgepeth was terminated by WSSU in 2011. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has since ruled she was a victim of racial discrimination when she was terminated. She now has two pending lawsuits filed against the school.

PC madness: City of Phoenix recruits lifeguards who can't swim

drowning in debt

Pope Benedict 16th called it the Dictatorship of Relativism. He wrote:
In his futuristic novel Brave New World, the British author Aldous Huxley had predicted in 1932 that falsification would be the decisive element of modernity. In a false reality with its false truth – or the absence of truth altogether – nothing, in the final analysis, is important any more. There is no truth, there is no standpoint. Today, in fact, truth is regarded as far too subjective a concept for us to find therein a universally valid standard. The distinction between genuine and fake seems to have been abolished. Everything is to some extent negotiable.
A sub-division of that dictatorship is the Tyranny of Diversity.
Judicial Watch reports April 3, 2013, that “In a staggering case of affirmative action gone wild,” the city government of Phoenix, capitol of Arizona and America’s 6th largest city, is recruiting minorities to be lifeguards at public pools even if they’re not good swimmers. It’s all in the name of diversity.
On its official website. the city proudly declares that “diversity” is among Phoenix’s “vision and values”:

We Value and Respect Diversity
Understanding diversity helps us to work together and serve our community. Diversity is more than gender and race; it encompasses our uniqueness and individuality. By embracing our differences, we find many paths to success. We put this belief into action to provide effective services to our diverse community.

Evidently officials are willing to compromise those “effective services” at 29 public swimming pools spread throughout the city. To diversify the lifeguard force, Phoenix will spend thousands of dollars to recruit minorities even if they’re not strong swimmers, according to an official quoted in a news report. Blacks, Latinos and Asians who may not necessarily qualify can still get hired, says the city official who adds that “we will work with you in your swimming abilities.”
Kelly Martinez, a Phoenix official, explains that the pools are largely used by Latino and African-American kids, but most of the lifeguards are white and this creates a huge problem. “The kids in the pool are all either Hispanic or black or whatever, and every lifeguard is white and we don’t like that. The kids don’t relate; there’s language issues.”
To help diversify its lifeguard ranks, the city raised about $15,000 over the past two years in scholarships to offset the cost of lifeguard-certification courses. Recruits who pass a swim test at the end can apply to be city lifeguards.
One of the recruits is high school junior Jesus Jimenez. He didn’t grow up going to pools with his family but likes the idea of lifeguarding. If he is selected to be a lifeguard, other pool staff will work with him on his swimming skills all summer.
Judicial Watch points out Phoenix’s recruitment of minority lifeguards is part of a national trend to boost the minority workforce at whatever cost. Under Obama we have seen a lot of this at the federal level through a variety of specially-designed government programs that give ethnic minorities special treatment at all federal agencies as well as medical and agricultural fields, among others.
Earlier this year the administration made history by hiring the government’s first “Chief Officer for Scientific Workforce Diversity” to mastermind a multi-million-dollar effort that boosts the number of minorities in biomedical research and slashes discrimination in the federal grant process. The effort was initially launched last year after a government-sanctioned study uncovered a “disturbing and disheartening” lack of racial diversity in the field.
Before that the administration created a new office to help build a “diverse and inclusive workforce” at all federal agencies and Obama appointed a “Diversity Czar” at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to help advance the goal of greater inclusion and diversity in government programs. Who could forget the race and gender employment quotas required at private financial institutions under Obama’s financial reform measure (known as the Dodd-Frank bill) to overhaul Wall Street? It’s all in the name of diversity.
And of course, it’s the taxpayer who gets screwed because we are paying for all these “diversity” programs.

$385K to study length of duck penis

America’s national debt is fast approaching $17 TRILLION.
In the name of trimming the budget (not the debt!), the military must endure cutbacks, including the suspension of tuition assistance programs for servicemembers (while illegal immigrants get free tuition). Meanwhile, the feral [sic] government makes no effort to eliminate wasteful spending, such as:

Add a $395k study to look at “plasticity in duck penis length” to the above list.

Ruddy DuckThis perky-looking Ruddy Duck is among the species of ducks whose penis length is being measured in the $385k Yale U. study on duck genitalia.

Eric Scheiner reports for CNSNews, March 19, 2013, that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $384,949 grant to Yale University for a study on “Sexual Conflict, Social Behavior and the Evolution of Waterfowl Genitalia”, according to the recovery.gov website.

The grant description says “The project examines how reproductive morphology covaries with season, age, and social environment in a diverse sample of duck species that differ in ecology, territoriality and breeding system.”
Translated into plain English, what the research aims to do is to “study” how the penises (“reproductive morphology”) of ducks change in size (“covaries”) according to the time of the year (“season”), the age of the duck, and the “social environment” (whatever that means).
The grant was made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus package.
The project has been receiving money from the NSF since 2009 and is slated for funding through July of this year.
Many duck penises are cork-screw shaped and some scientists believe this is because of a form of evolution known as “sexual conflict”.
According to the “Awards Summary” about this very important research project: “Preliminary results of the project, suggest that male competition plays an important role in the evolution of waterfowl reproductive morphology, that male reproductive morphology is plastic depending on age.”
Translated into plain English, what this means is that after three years of study (the project’s funding began in 2009), the Yale scientists discovered that the length and size of duck penises change with age.
No kidding?
Without a budget of $384,949, I could have told you that!
NSF spokeswoman Deborah Wing told CNSNews.com the updated title of the study is “Sexual Conflict, Social Behavior and Evolution.” Wing says, “The study met the criteria of the NSF panel of scientific peers as part of the grant approval process. The NSF strives to be good stewards of taxpayers dollars. Basic research often is combined with other research efforts and turns into bigger things. Government funded grants for research have assisted in creating the barcode and Google.”
The NSF grant abstract boasts that “Broader impacts of the research will be international, national, local, and personal.” Among those having a personal experience with the study are young minorities: “The project will incorporate high school students from under-represented minorities through the Yale University EVOLUTIONISTS program.”
Ahhh, so that’s why the project costs $385k. It’s another friggin’ “affirmative action” program scam!
Richard Prum

Richard Prum

CNSNews says their e-mail and phone attempts to contact the study’s Principal Research Investigator, Richard Prum, a professor at Yale University, “were unreturned”. That means Prum got the email and phone calls but chose not to respond.

The first of Breitbart's Obama college tapes

Before his sudden death on March 1, Andrew Breitbart was doing the job that the media failed to do in 2008 — investigating Obama.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington last month, Breitbart said he had obtained videos of Obama from his college days, which will reveal Barry during a time when he was meeting a “bunch of silver ponytails” — referring to Weather Underground terror group members Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. It was in the couple’s Chicago home that Obama’s political career reportedly was launched, and his ties to the two run deep. There’s been a solid argument made that Ayers ghost-wrote Obama’s highly acclaimed memoir, “Dreams from My Father.”
Breitbart vowed: “I’ve got videos – this election we’re going to vet him – from his college days to show you why … racial division and class warfare are central to what hope and change was sold in 2008.”
Breitbart.com will be releasing one of Obama’s college videos — the one at Harvard Law School — this evening on Sean Hannity’s TV show.
Earlier today, however, video researcher Andrew Kaczynski released an edited version of the video. Joel Pollak issued this announcement on Breitbart.com, March 7, 2012, that Kaczynski’s video was “licensed from a Boston television station” and has been selectively edited–either by the Boston television station or by Buzzfeed itself.
The video shows a young, already arrogant Barack Obama leading a protest at Harvard Law School on behalf of Prof. Derrick Bell, whom Breitbart.com calls “a radical academic tied to Jeremiah Wright” and about whom Breitbart.com “will be releasing significant information in the coming hours.”
This is what Wikipedia says about Derrick Bell [edited]:

Derrick Albert Bell, Jr. (November 6, 1930 – October 5, 2011)was the first tenured African-American professor of Law at Harvard University, and largely credited as the originator of Critical Race Theory.

Bell received an A.B. from Duquesne University in 1952 and an LL.B. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1957. After graduation, Bell took a position with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Justice Department, followed by a stint as an assistant counsel for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, crafting legal strategies at the forefront of the battle to undo racist laws and segregation in schools.

In 1969, with the help of protests from black Harvard Law School students for a minority faculty member, Bell was hired to teach there. At Harvard, Bell established a new course in civil rights law, published a celebrated case book, Race, Racism and American Law, and produced a steady stream of law review articles.

In 1986, Bell staged a five-day sit-in in his office to protest the school’s failure to grant tenure to two legal scholars on staff, both of whom adhered to a movement in legal philosophy that claims legal institutions play a role in the maintenance of the ruling class’ position. The administration, not giving an inch, claimed substandard scholarship and teaching on the part of the professors as the reason for the denial of tenure, but Bell called it an unambiguous attack on ideology. Bell’s sit-in galvanized student support but sharply divided the faculty.

Bell reentered the debate over hiring practices at Harvard in 1990, when he vowed to take an unpaid leave of absence until the school appointed a female of color to its tenured faculty. Students held vigils and protests in solidarity with Bell with the support of some faculty. One of these students was U.S. president Barack Obama, who led a protest at Harvard Law School on behalf of Bell. Critics, including some faculty members, called Bell’s methods counterproductive, and Harvard administration officials insisted they had already made enormous advances in hiring.

To some observers, Bell’s lament about Harvard amounted to a call for the school to lower its academic qualifications in the quest to mold a diversified faculty on the campus.

Bell is arguably the most influential source of thought critical of traditional civil rights discourse.

In the 2008 presidential campaign, the media trumpeted Barack Obama as a “post-racial” president-to-be who will heal America’s racial wounds and division. This video from his Harvard Law School days shows that, far from being “post-racial,” Obama actually had cut his teeth on precisely  racialist political activism.

Update (March 9, 2012):

For a better description of Derrick Bell’s beliefs, see my post “Obama praised a rabid black racist.” Bell was nothing less than a virulent racist who wanted a race war.
