After Philadelphia Police shootout, demorats call for more gun control. How about stricter penalties for prohibited possessors and better enforcement?

Facts are a stubborn thing for progressives. Always have been, always will be.

Demorats starting demanding more gun control after the shootout with Philadelphia Police on Wednesday. In some cases, demorats even called for more gun control while the situation was unfolding.

Demorat presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Beto O’Rourke and Amy Klobuchar took to Twitter to express their outrage pander to voters:

Kamala Harris: “We can’t sit around waiting for others to take action on gun violence. Doing nothing is not an option.”

Pancho Beto: “Thinking of Philadelphia, and everyone impacted by this gun violence epidemic we need to end.”

Amy Klobuchar: “Another tragic shooting. This time in Philadelphia. We have to end this scourge of gun violence.”

Philadelphia shooter & prohibited possessor/ABC 7 News photo

Turns out the shooter was a violent, drug-dealing convicted felon, meaning he wasn’t legally allowed to possess firearms. But he’s a criminal, so did you really expect him to follow the law?

According to NBC Philadelphia, the 36-year-old shooter has a lengthy criminal record that included firearms charges. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said that “he never should have been on the streets.”

And therein lies the problem with demanding more gun control laws while not adequately punishing prohibited possessors.

A report published by the US Sentencing Commission on June 27, 2019 entitled, “Recidivism Among Federal Firearms Offenders” shows that the problem lies in the criminal justice system and progressives’ demand for “criminal justice reform.”

Key findings from their report:

The 3,446 firearms offenders analyzed in this report represent 13.8 percent of the 25,000 offenders in this study who were released in calendar year 2005.

Firearms offenders recidivated at a higher rate than non-firearms offenders. Over two-thirds (68.1%) of firearms offenders were rearrested for a new crime during the eight-year follow-up period compared to less than half of non-firearms offenders (46.3%).

Firearms offenders recidivated more quickly than non-firearms offenders. Of the firearms offenders who recidivated, the median time from release to the first recidivism event was 17 months. Comparatively, the median time from release to the first recidivism event for non-firearms offenders was 22 months.

A greater percentage of firearms offenders were rearrested for serious crimes than non-firearms offenders.

Firearms offenders recidivated at a higher rate than non-firearms offenders in every age group at the time of release from custody.

Read the whole report here.

Maybe, just maybe, we could take a look at punishing firearm offenders more severely.

Also, could we enforce the current gun laws? See the following examples:

“145,000 people in NC whose criminal records should have kept them from buying a gun weren’t even added to the background check database till Dec 2018. And there’s no way to know how many of them bought guns.”

“Out of 112,000 fraudulent 4473s only 12 were prosecuted in 2017.”

“Gun laws that cost millions had little effect because they weren’t enforced

I know these facts will mean absolutely nothing to demorats. Gun grabbers prefer to operate with their emotions.

Pure propaganda: Elderly couple found dead from murder-suicide after they couldn’t afford wife’s healthcare

First of all, I thought Obamacare was suppose to fix our “broken health care system?”

Even if this man couldn’t afford to pay for his medical expenses, there are PLENTY of low- and no-cost taxpayer- and privately-provided agencies that provide free healthcare services in Whatcom County. See here, here, here and here.

But that little bit of information doesn’t make for a sensational headline…especially when guns are involved.

From Yahoo: A man in Washington state has killed both himself and his wife after raising fears about struggling to pay medical expenses for her ongoing health conditions.

The couple were identified by the Whatcom County Medical Examiner as Brian S Jones, 77, and Patricia Whitney-Jones, 76.

Mr. Jones, who lived near the city of Ferndale, called emergency services on Wednesday morning and said he was going to shoot himself, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

He said he had prepared a note for the sheriff which contained information and instructions. In spite of the operator’s efforts to keep him on the line, Mr. Jones is then said to have told the operator, “we will be in the front bedroom”, before disconnecting the call.

Police arrived around 15 minutes later and set up a perimeter around the house and attempted to intervene for about an hour with a crisis negotiator and loud hailer.

But it was too late, as officials then used a robot-mounted camera to look inside the home and found the bodies of the married couple.

Authorities said they believe Mr. Jones shot his wife and then himself. They were found lying together.
A statement from Whatcom Sheriff Bill Elfo said state officials are investigating the incident which is deemed to be a murder-suicide.

According to the sheriff, Mr. Jones told the operator: “I am going to shoot myself”.

Several notes were left in the home “citing severe ongoing medical problems with the wife and expressing concerns that the couple did not have sufficient resources to pay for medical care”, according to the sheriff’s statement.

“It is very tragic that one of our senior citizens would find himself in such desperate circumstances where he felt murder and suicide were the only option. Help is always available with a call to 911,” Mr. Elfo said in the post.

Numerous firearms were seized and two dogs found in the house were taken to an animal shelter.

Sherrie Schulteis, a neighbour of the couple, said she often spoke to Mr. Jones and watched out for each other’s homes but was totally unaware about the extent to which he was struggling mentally and financially.

“[Mr Jones and I] were always waving and talking about our yards or our flowers,” she told The Lynden Tribune. “It’s a little tiny community where we all know each other, but we don’t really know each other.”

Media whipping up fear for 2020 elections: “Frightened by shootings, appalled at Trump, Americans are voting to leave – with their feet”

I wonder how many of these frightened Americans are just showing up at a country’s border and expecting to obtain illegal entry? Oh wait, they are applying for Visas. Guess only other countries are expected to determine who has the right to enter their country…

From Yahoo: Eleanor Pelta has secured Polish passports for herself and her two sons. Stephanie Schwab is planning an escape route via Spain. Elie Jacobs has begun to keep enough cash on hand to buy last-minute plane tickets to Israel for his family. Alex and Aussa Lorens are applying for work visas in Australia, while Josh Lewin is aiming for New Zealand.

And Kami Lewis Levin already has her bags packed and tickets purchased. She leaves next week, with her husband, three children and a dog, for a new home in Costa Rica.

Americans are not flocking to the exits, but some of them are thinking about it, and some are talking about it, and at least a few are acting on the idea. Google searches for terms like “how to move out of America” spiked this past weekend to levels not seen since November 2016, right after the presidential election, and last seen a decade ago during the Great Recession. And in dozens of interviews after the massacres in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, people who were born here spoke of their crystallizing desire to leave.

These are not recent immigrants who feel threatened by nationalist rhetoric coming from the White House and Congress, but for the most part middle-class or relatively affluent Americans disheartened by the turn in American politics since the 2016 election. And it is not necessarily Canada — the default destination for agitated Americans over the decades — where they are threatening to move, because work visa qualifications there are tight. Instead, they are casting a larger net across the globe.

“The text-message threads and FB message threads have surged with questions about how and when to leave,” said Jacobs, a 41-year-old public affairs consultant who lives in New Jersey with his wife and toddler, and who began looking to Israel as an “escape hatch” as soon as Donald Trump was elected, but whose stockpiling of cash took on new urgency this week.

For many, the exploration of the departure gates is a direct response to the current president of the United States and his party. Before 2016, Coloradans Alex and Aussa Lorens were saving up to buy a house; after that they turned their attention to qualifying for a 190 Skilled Nominated visa for Australia, which requires proving English proficiency, a skills assessment and an “expression of intent” letter to those Australian states that are specifically looking for workers in Alex’s industry, which is hospitality.

Among what the couple sees as the many attractions of Australian society — including universal health care and affordable private insurance, mandated parental leave, four weeks of vacation for all workers and strong limits on guns the Lorenses are drawn by the political culture, which, Aussa says, “protects them from a Trump-like outcome.”

“They do not have a major political party that is at all equivalent to our far-right Republicans,” she says. “Their conservative party is more like the moderate Democrats. They don’t argue about whether health care is a basic human right or whether climate change is real. They banned guns after a mass shooting.

For others, the motivation is what they describe as an increasing level of daily fear.

“The way things are going, it’s to where you can’t even take your family out in public because it’s just a matter of time,” says Josh Lewin, 34, a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., who lives there now with his wife and four sons ages 4 to 14 and works selling commercial security systems. “I need to do something to protect the family and not have to worry about this day in and day out.”

“First it was a shooting once a year, then once every six months, then once a month, and now it’s every day,” he says. “We don’t even bat an eye as a country now. I would like to move somewhere where that isn’t true and my kids don’t have to be afraid.”

He is surprised to feel as he does, both because he knows that statistically the dangers to any one individual or family are quite small, and because he has never been one for strong political opinions, and lives among relatives and friends who are Trump supporters. In fact, he emphasizes, “I’m not trying to choose sides. I am the type to sit back and support whoever is piloting the ship because you want to support your president and not see him fail.”

He has kept his feelings to himself, he says, particularly at work, where other men wear handguns strapped to their ankles at the office and, according to his wife, “joke about mass shootings being a force of natural selection.”

The Lewins have rejected Australia because “they have huge spiders there,” Josh says, and he is about as scared of spiders as he is of mass shootings. He has set New Zealand as his goal, intrigued years ago by the popularity of the extreme sport of “drift triking” — riding nonmotorized Big Wheels-like contraptions down huge hills. (New Zealand does have spiders, but venomous species capable of harming humans are extremely rare.) More recently he has been attracted by the fact that “after one mass shooting there they took steps to make it not so easy for people to get ahold of weapons of war.”

And then, “after the shootings this weekend, I went from a 3 on the scale of how likely I was to actually move to a 6.”

Those who say they are serious about leaving are quick to add that they recognize the privilege that allows them to consider such a move at all.

“I am acutely aware of how not everyone can do this,” says 40-year-old Janelle Hanchett, a writer, who sold everything she owned in Northern California in July and moved with her husband, Charles MacDonald, a union ironworker, and their four school-age children to the Netherlands. “We are not rich, we have crippling student loans, but we had equity in a house and the means to pick up and leave.”

Tired of what Hanchett describes as “the specter of this rising authoritarian regime, and of feeling unsafe all the time,” they applied for a “freelance visa” that the government of the Netherlands created to thank America for liberation during World War II, and that allows Americans to live and work as freelancers. (If they become employed by a Dutch company full time, their status switches to a sponsored visa.)

“It feels saner, more humane,” she says of her new home in the city of Haarlem, the capital of the province of North Holland. “The people seem happier. And there aren’t guns.

Under the program, they are entitled to all the country’s benefits, including universal health care, a payment from the government of about 250 euros per child per quarter, and admission to a “Newcomer” school that costs 3 euros per month and helps children learn Dutch and transition to their new country. When they learned about the school, Hanchett says, “we started to cry from happiness.” The principal told them, “Americans always react this way.”

The left’s narrative vs. facts about gun control laws and mass shootings

While the left scream about “gun control,” “assault weapons ban,” “ban high-capacity magazines” and “red flag laws” in an attempt to end gun violence, their “truth” about gun control laws and mass shooting doesn’t align with the facts.

Libtards’ narrative: To scare people into believing we need gun control now, the Washington Post published the following list of the names of mass shooting victims:

The total number of victims on the list is 1,196 during the past 54 years. That averages out to 22 victims per year.

The fact: Statistically, one’s chance of ending up a victim of mass shooting is much lower than getting in a car accident. The numbers are also much, much lower than the total number of babies killed by abortions or opioid deaths.

Libtards’ narrative: Yesterday, Shannon Watts (Bloomberg’s gun control parrot) tweeted the following about how Colorado prevented another mass shooting with their background check law:

“A Boulder white supremacist was stopped from buying a gun because a background check determined he was a prohibited purchaser. After Columbine, Colorado began requiring background checks at gun shows. In 2013, it required them on online gun sales, too.”

The fact: The man attempted to buy from a FFL. All sales by licensed dealers in all states require background checks. Colorado’s universal background check law had no bearing on this case. Read about Colorado’s background check laws – and their minimal impact here.

Libtards’ narrative: #GunControlNow! It’s for the children! #GunControlNow! Enough is enough! #GunControlNow! Ban weapons of war! #GunControlNow!

Fact: You can never make enough laws to guarantee good behavior from people who are willing to break the law. See the following:

2 Dead, at Least 41 Wounded in Weekend Shootings Across Chicago (Final weekend numbers: 4 killed, 43 shot in Chiraq)
This is Chiraq: 8 killed, 40 wounded during another weekend of violence
This is Chiraq: 43 shot (2 killed) during weekend violence
This is Chiraq: 45 shot – 4 fatally – during weekend violence
After most deadly weekend of violence this year, Chiraq still racking up the shootings
Gun control, Chiraq style: 44 shot – 8 fatally – since Friday night

If the gun control laws on record already worked, then why do the left need to produce false/misleading narratives? We all know the answer to that:

Fauxcahontas proposes more taxes on guns and ammo

Because raising taxes always solves big problems…

From Yahoo: Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) wants to sharply increase taxes on guns and ammunition as part of a comprehensive new plan to reduce gun deaths in the United States by 80%.

Warren, who is set to appear along with most of the other 20-plus Democratic presidential candidates at a gun control forum in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, is also proposing universal background checks (like they already don’t exist?), federal gun licensing, a one-week waiting period on all gun purchases to limit impulsive violence, a ban on assault weapons and a newly empowered Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, among a host of other suggestions.

“Faced with a complex and entrenched public health crisis, made worse by the ongoing inability of a corrupt government (isn’t she part of that corruption?) to do anything about it, it’s easy to despair,” Warren wrote in a Medium post. “But we are not incapable of solving big problems. We’ve done it before.” (How’d that work out with Obamacare?)

Warren is unveiling her plan a week after deadly massacres in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, the latest in a years-long run of mass shootings that have transformed the politics of gun control, making it a key issue for Democratic primary voters and a key issue for the party in many general elections.

Warren chose the 80% mark for gun violence death reductions in order to echo the 80% reduction in driving deaths since 1965, when Congress decided the number of people dying in automobile accidents was unacceptable.

>“We’ll start by implementing solutions that we believe will work,” she wrote. “We’ll continue by constantly revisiting and updating those solutions based on new public health research. And we’ll make structural changes to end the ability of corrupt extremists to block our government from defending the lives of our people.”

Warren is not the first candidate to release a plan to combat gun violence, and much of the field ― including former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) ― supports universal background checks and bans on high-capacity ammunition magazines. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) similarly pushed for federal gun licenses, and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) has promised to use a wide array of executive actions to stem gun violence even if Congress doesn’t act.

Two things set Warren’s plan apart: the taxes and her emphasis on eliminating the influence of the National Rifle Association.

For a century, the federal government has imposed an excise tax on manufacturers and importers of guns and ammunition. Handguns are taxed at 10%, while all other guns and ammunition are taxed at 11%. Warren would raise the tax on guns to 30% and the tax on ammunition to 50%.

Warren’s plan to combat the influential but weakened NRA, which has essentially united the Republican Party against gun control and stonewalled Democratic movement on the issue for decades, includes a promise to appoint an attorney general who will investigate the NRA’s use of “loopholes … to divert member dues into lavish payments for its board members and senior leadership.”

Her plan also emphasizes the need for structural reforms, including ending the 60-vote requirement to end a filibuster in the Senate, in order to pass comprehensive gun violence legislation.

“Enough is enough,” Warren writes. “Lasting gun reform requires the elimination of the filibuster.”

This is Chiraq: 8 killed, 40 wounded during another weekend of violence

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

As usual, the good Chiraq mayor is silent about her city’s gang and gun violence. She’s too busy being mad at President Trump for speaking the truth about Baltimore.

From MyFoxChicago: At least 48 people were shot — eight fatally — in incidents of gun violence within city limits over the weekend.

Shootings escalated as the weekend went on: Nine people were wounded Friday after 5 p.m., 15 were shot Saturday and Sunday saw 24 people shot.

On Sunday, 3-year-old boy died from what Chicago police said may be an accidental gunshot wound in South Deering.

Family members told police they were in the another room in the 9600 block of South Escanaba when they heard a gunshot at about 4:15 p.m., CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. They rushed to see what happened and found the boy with the gun. He suffered a gunshot wound to the face, police said.

Family members took the boy to Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Guglielmi said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office hasn’t provided details about his death.

The Department of Children and Family Services has been called in to assist police investigations, Guglielmi said.

Last weekend, shootings left three dead and 40 others wounded.

This is Chiraq: 43 shot (2 killed) during weekend violence

Chiraq Mayor Lori Lightfoot

Guess the thugs missed the “crime cancellation” notice.

From MyFoxChicago: At least 43 people were wounded — two of them fatally — in gun violence incidents within city limits over the weekend.

The weekend’s latest fatal shooting happened Friday in Englewood on the South Side. About 11:51 p.m., Reginald Watkins, 23, was was sitting in a vehicle in the 6200 block of South Laflin Street, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He got into an argument with a group of people across the street and gunfire rang out.

Watkins was hit in the chest and ran to the corner of 62nd and Laflin where he collapsed, authorities said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he later died.

Earlier, another man was fatally wounded in a drive-by a few miles south in Fernwood. He was in a vehicle about 7:20 p.m. in the 200 block of West 105th Place when a silver-colored vehicle drove past and someone inside opened fire, police said. The man, 21, was hit multiple times on his body, police said. He took himself to Roseland Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In non-fatal gun violence, seven people were hurt in a shootout Saturday near Fullerton beach in Lincoln Park on the North Side.

About 3:20 a.m., a group of people walking towards the lakefront in the first block of West Fullerton Parkway got into an argument with a group that was leaving, police said.

People from both groups pulled out guns and opened fire after the argument escalated, police said.
Three women — 28, 27 and 24 years old — were taken to local hospitals with gunshot wounds to the leg, arm and shoulder, respectively, police said. Two men, 28 and 25, were both shot in the leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Those five people were in good condition, police said.

At least 31 others were hurt in gun violence incidents from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday across Chicago. Last weekend, shootings left nine people dead and 32 others wounded.

Baltimore deputy police commissioner robbed at gun point

Deputy Police Commissioner Daniel Murphy

I wondered why a member of the police department wouldn’t be carrying while out and about in Baltimore. My question was answered when I saw his picture.

From Baltimore Sun: One of Baltimore’s newest deputy police commissioners and his wife were robbed at gunpoint Friday night near Patterson Park, police said.

Deputy Commissioner Daniel Murphy and his wife were approached around 9 p.m. by four men in a large white SUV at the 2200 block of East Pratt Street, police said in a statement. Two approximately 18-year-old men got out of the SUV and approached the couple. The men announced it was a robbery, showed a gun and fled with a wallet, a purse, some cash and multiple cell phones, the press release said.

No one was injured.

Commissioner Michael Harrison, and the two men worked together in the New Orleans police department. In New Orleans, Murphy was the deputy superintendent of compliance for its consent decree, and was tapped by Harrison to oversee the Baltimore Police Department’s compliance with its own, similar federal consent decree.

In an April interview with the Sun, Murphy talked about the similarities between the two cities, and the challenges.

“I think the challenges are very similar” in Baltimore and New Orleans, Murphy said. “Obviously, every community, every police department is unique, but the success we had in New Orleans is directly transferable to here and we will modify it as necessary.”

Shocker, not: Washington state gun laws didn’t prevent ICE detention center Antifa goon from illegally obtaining firearm

Antifa terrorist Van Spronsen taken out by law enforcement

The man who was shot to death outside of the Tacoma immigration detention center was a self-described Antifa anarchist identified as William Van Spronsen (69 years old). He showed up at the facility armed with a rifle and was throwing “incendiary devices.”

Police shot him dead.

According to journalist Andy Ngo, who himself was attacked by Antifa goons in Portland, Tacoma police say the dead man aimed his rifle at officers & refused to drop the gun. He was shot & killed by them. The rifle was recovered at the scene & appears to have malfunctioned during his attack.

Now the News Tribune reports that this dead Antifa anarchist should never have been in possession of a gun. From their report:

“His now ex-wife wrote in a petition seeking a protection orders in January that Van Spronsen talked of dying at the hands of police or of an intentional heroin overdose and that he took their school-age son to what she called militia meetings.

“He would also talk about dying for a cause and anarchist actions,” she wrote, among other concerns. “This was near the end of our marriage. I found it very scary and upsetting because I believed he would do it, even if it hurt someone and even if he died as a result.”

The protection order that followed in February made it illegal for him to have firearms.
