Sunday Devotional: Three Persons in One God

Three Persons

Luke 1:35

And the angel answered and said unto her,
The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,
and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:
therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee
shall be called the Son of God.

Mark 1:9-11

It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee
and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open
and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens,
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Baptism of Jesus

Matthew 28:19

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

John 14:26

But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost,
whom the Father will send in my name,
he shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.

In One God

1 John 5:6-8

This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ;
not by water only, but by water and blood.
And it is the Spirit that beareth witness,
because the Spirit is truth.
For there are three that bear record in heaven,
the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

John 10:30

I and [my] Father are one.

Colossians 2:9

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

I will be with you always

About 25 yrs ago I tried to show a fervent twenty-something JW that the so-called ‘mystery’ of a triune God –which he denied was possible– was no real mystery when rightly understood.
I took his hand and gently flattened it out, palm upward, as follows: “Look, you know this is your hand, all one unit. Yet for your hand to work as it needs to do, you need an opposable thumb, an area called ‘palm’ and four separate but equal fingers. Without all three you can’t have a whole hand, OK?” I left him quietly to sort it all out….

Joseph, a good question to throw at JW’s is – “If only 144,000 are going to heaven, wouldn’t the 40 million + child sacrifices (abortion) qualify before anyone else?” They never know how to respond to that. Anything to shake them out of their brainwashing is hopeful.

Dr. Alvin Schmidt’s book, “The Great Divide…..” explores the vast differences between Islam and Christianity. The Nature of our Shepherd in caring for lost sheep STRONGLY contradicts the Mohammedan emphasis on the correct way to sacrifice an animal. Essentially Life vs Death.

Thank you Dr. Eowyn for this magnificent post substantiating the important Doctrine of the Holy Trinity with the Holy Scriptures. The Catholic Church taught this important Doctrine which united the early Christians. St. Ignatius of Antioch, early Church Father, Bishop and Martyr, professed this Doctrine with enthusiasm and great love as he was led to his martyrdom in the coliseum. To this day, the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity exists in defining the reality of Christianity, setting apart cults, et al. from calling themselves Christian, those belief systems that do not espouse the existence of the Holy Trinity..
