Sunday Devotional: My ways are not your ways

Isaiah 55:6-9

Seek the LORD while he may be found,
call him while he is near.
Let the scoundrel forsake his way,
and the wicked his thoughts;
let him turn to the LORD for mercy;
to our God, who is generous in forgiving.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD.
As high as the heavens are above the earth,
so high are my ways above your ways
and my thoughts above your thoughts.

That is why while we may pray for our wishes, in the final analysis, we must remember that it is God’s will that must be done because we simply don’t know everything, nor do we know the grand scheme of things, nor what really is good for us.

But to pray that God’s will be done, now and always, requires humility and the abnegation or surrender of our own will — to God’s.

And that is difficult for us narcissistic and willful humans.

The key is love.

If we indeed love God with our whole heart, our whole soul, our whole mind, and with all our strength, we then truly can say: “Thy will be done.”

May the peace and love of Jesus Christ our Lord be with you,

This is an excellent spiritual thought for these troubled times. For me the most important thing is that “I do not have all the information that The Lord has” so it is rather difficult to understand and judge fairly what is going on. Just trust in The Lord and all will be well.

‘If we indeed love God with our whole heart, our whole soul, our whole mind, and with all our strength, we then truly can say: “Thy will be done.”’

This is because we then truly understand that God Himself loves us the same way, and that His Will for us will have the best, overall outcome in the end, even when His Will is contrary to what we are asking. God bless!
